The complete trial and military account of the hanging of Pvt. John Jackson Nickell, C.S.A. of Morgan County and Rowan County, KY., for "violations of Law and War" during the Civil War. The trial took place in 1864 before a Union Military Court. The book contains compiled Civil War records from various sources pertaining to Morgan County and Eastern Kentucky. Included is a History of the Orphan Brigade, 5th Kentucky Infantry, C.S.A. (1915 Adjutant Report); Roll of Morgan County C.S.A. and U.S.A.; Roll of 45th Regular Kentucky Infantry U.S.A.; and Roll of Kentucky 5th Regular Infantry C.S.A.; and Military Regulations to conduct a hanging.
