Do You Know Us? |
The following
photos are tin types I found
in my
grandmother's things (Mildred E.
Salyer
Goodsell, b.1905, Oney, OK). I believe
they are either
Marshall,
Salyer
or Whitaker
family members. The photos are tintypes so
they were taken
before 1880. I
think from my
grandmother's side of the family. I am
hoping someone from
the Magoffin area
may help me identify them.
When they were in Kansas they
lived in a frontier community so I believe the pictures were taken before
they left Magoffin.

Tidbits: Fielding
N Salyer was the son of
William J (Butler) Salyer and Luanna Salyer.
They migrated to Texas from Magoffin. He died
in Blaine Co, Oklahoma on 3/26/1902 and she
died in Mitchell Co., Texas 5/23/1910.
Their
daughter, Mildred Evelyn Salyer
Goodsell was born in Oney, Oklahoma on
4/28/1905, she lived most of her life in
Bakersfield, California; she died October 7,
1985 in San Diego California. |
Tidbits:
Mildred Salyer's
brother Clyde was
born on 9/16/1886 in Sun City, Barber Co.,
Kansas. (This is where the Whitaker family
settled after living in Magoffin Co.). He died
in San Luis Obispo, California 12/29/1941.
Mildred's
mother Kate was the daughter of
Thomas P Whitaker and Eveline Marshall
Whitaker. Thomas died on June 17, 1893 in
Kingfisher Co., Oklahoma and Eveline died
3/3/1899 in Custer Co, Oklahoma. |
Tidbits:
Mildred's
father Fielding N Salyer was
the son of William J (Butler) Salyer and Luanna
Salyer. They migrated to Texas from Magoffin.
He died in Blaine Co, Oklahoma on 3/26/1902
and she died in Mitchell Co., Texas 5/23/1910.
Fielding's
parents were first cousins and
Fielding's illegitimate aunt (if that's what its
called) married Thomas Whitaker's brother
Robert. So she was Kate's aunt and Fielding's
aunt too. When Johnson Adams left Magoffin
the Whitakers and some of the Marshall
families went with them to Sun City,
Barber Co. Kansas. |
