The Arnett home was
built by Kelsey N. Fletcher on the river road, a couple of miles upstream
from Lakeville in Magoffin County. This majestic old home and farm
was swapped early on to Will Press Arnett, who lived here his lifetime.
Then, it was given to us by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Creed (Louise)
Arnett. The two-pen, two story house was graced with two chimneys on both
ends, made of handmade brick, made on the site. When the brick was taken
down, it was discovered that no mortar was used to build the chimneys. It
was a miraculous feat that these chimneys were still standing tall and
straight after all these years. We intend to put one of these chimneys
back up so as to preserve and portray this method of building chimneys.
One of the original chimneys from the Henry cabin has been rebuilt on the
end of this cabin. This building was rebuilt as nearly original as
possible. The rafters made of small chestnut trees and fastened by wooden
pegs were reused. The second story breezeway has extra logs to enclose
this old house.
