This week we will continue with the children and grandchildren of Captain Reuben Patrick and his wife Amanda Burns Hager. Last week’s column contained info on their first six children (1) Solena Cannoy, (2) Susan Hurt, (3) Franklin M. Patrick, (4) Ann Walter, (5) Mattie Arnett and (6) Dennis Burns Patrick.

The 7th child of Reuben Patrick was Robert Anderson "Bob" Patrick b. 1861 and died of a fractured skull from a fall on concrete in 1937. He and his wife Colista Alice Stafford are buried in the Mayo Cemetery in Johnson Co. KY. Colista was born in 1862 and died in 1943, a dau of Francis Marion Stafford and Marietta Hager Lavender. Their two children were Gertrude Patrick, did not marry, and Bertha Patrick married Harry C. Howes.

Katherine "Kate" Patrick was the 8th child of Reuben Patrick. She was born in 1864 and died in 1885. She was married in 1880 Montgomery Co. KY to Morgan Mason "M. M." Salyer b. 1842, son of John Salyer and Polly Watkins. Morgan M. was first married to Elizabeth Salyer in 1860 and m. 3rd to Sarah Patrick in 1885.

Morgan M. and Kate were the parents of John Morgan "Fiddlin’ John" Salyer who married Minnie Gullett. Fiddlin’ John was born in 1882 and died in 1952. He and Minnie were the parents of Delma, Grover, Katherine, Glen, Olga, Mary, Ethel, Madeline and Janette Salyer.

Grant Patrick, a twin, born 1866 and died in 1888 was the 9th child of Reuben Patrick.

The 10th child of Reuben was Grant’s twin sister, Maudella Patrick b. 25 Jul 1866 and died 28 Oct 1937 in Bath Co. KY. She married in Magoffin County in 1890 to Daniel Boone "D. B." Salyer. D. B. was born in 1869 and died in 1947, a son of Nelson B. Salyer and Elizabeth "Betty" Howard.

They are listed in the 1900 and 1910 Magoffin census. By 1920 Daniel Boone at age 71 and a widower, lived in Bath Co. KY with an unmarried daughter Myrtle age 30 still at home. Their other children were Glenn Salyer b. 1891, Lillie Salyer m. a Hoover, Betty Salyer b. 1894, Amanda Salyer, Leona Salyer b. 1898, Gale Salyer b. 1901, Gorman Salyer b. 1903 and Garnett Salyer b. 1905.

Maudella and D. B. Salyer are buried in the Bethel Cemetery, Owingsville, KY.

The 11th child of Reuben was Jacob T. Patrick b. 1868 and died in 1910. He is enumerated in the home of his parents from 1870 through 1900. His occupation was listed as "storekeeper and guager in US Service".

Reuben’s 12th child Junietta "June" Patrick was born in 1870 and married in 1897 to Richard Menifee "R. M." Millard. Richard M. was born in 1867 WV, a son of Joseph and Mary Millard. Richard M. was a teacher in Wilmore, KY. June died in 1960 and Richard M. died in 1937 at Wilmore in Jessamine Co. KY. The 1920 Jessamine Co. census shows them with a daughter Gladys Millard b. 1900 in Magoffin County.

Henry Wilson Patrick was born in 1872 and was the 13th child of Reuben Patrick. He and his wife Jessie Elizabeth Arnett were married in 1900 in Magoffin County. Jessie was born in 1882, a daughter of Proctor Arnett and Paulina Prater. They lived in various places during their marriage; in Chelan, WA in 1910, in Montgomery Co. KY in 1920, in Bridge, WA in 1930, in South Ridge, WA in 1940. Henry W. died in 1956 Los Angeles, CA; his wife Jessie E. had died in 1950 Wenatchee, WA. Their known children were (1) Anna Patrick b. 1903, (2) Harry Patrick b. 1905 and (3) Robert Patrick b. 1907.

The 14th and last child of Reuben Patrick was Benjamin B. Patrick. He was born in 1876 and married in 1898 to Florence Talent. She was born in 1882, a dau of Archibald Talent and Elizabeth Fraley. Benjamin and Florence lived at Ivyton, KY in 1910 and are listed with these children: (1) Chelsey Patrick b. 1899, (2) William McKennie "Willie" Patrick b. 1901, (3) Bruner (sometimes listed as Baumgarner) Patrick b. 1904, (4) Robert Patrick b. 1907 and (5) Archie Patrick b. 1909.

The 1920 Scioto Co. OH census lists Benjamin as a widower at age 43. Children Chelsea, Archie, Elsie and Lizzie are in the household. In 1930 Benjamin was listed in the Barkley, IN home of daughter Chelsey and her husband Grover McClurg. The 1940 Elk Creek, Magoffin census shows him in the home of son Willie Patrick and his wife Sarah Caldwell. Willie and Sarah had a son Benjamin F. Patrick who served in World War II (buried in Earl May Cemetery). The 1940 census shows his grandfather Benjamin B. Patrick as a veteran of the Spanish American War and World War One.

The patriarch of this family, Reuben Patrick, died 14 October 1902; his wife Amanda lived another 12 years before she passed on 14 Apr 1914. They, along with several family members, are buried in the Captain Reuben Patrick Cemetery on Rt. 114, Bradley, KY near the old Reuben Patrick homeplace and the Bradley Freewill Baptist Church.
