A visitor with many local family ties, Lakota Arnett spent some time with us recently researching her ancestors. We believe we have found some information so that she can continue her research. Her paternal grandparents were Clayton Arnett and Vickie Arnett.

Clayton Arnett was a son of Lester Arnett and Mary Francis Craft. Lester was a son of Linville Arnett (1879-1978) and Josie B. Moore (1882-1970). In 1910 Magoffin census, Linville and Josie had an 84 year-old widow Betsy Crace in their home, listed as "grandmother".

Linville was a son of Hiram B. Arnett (son of Hiram Arnett and Serena Arnett) and Rhoda Arnett (dau of William Arnett and Jemima Ray). William and Jemima are listed in the 1900 Johnson Fork of Magoffin County census with William at age 90. He died on 20th September of that year. Jemima (1825-1907) was a dau of War of 1812 veteran Jesse Ray and wife Sarah Owens.

Mary Francis was a dau of Bernie Craft (1880-1962) and Parrott Carpenter (1875-1956). Bernie was a son of John Craft and Mary Patrick. Parrot was a dau of Stephen "Black Steve" Carpenter and Amanda Conley. Amanda’s parents Elijah Conley and Nancy Joseph are buried on the Carpenter Hill Cemetery at Swampton, KY.

Clayton’s wife Vickie Arnett was a dau of Freeman Arnett and Merlie Bailey. Freeman was a son of Russell Arnett and Laura Noe. Russell was a son of Wiley "Ole Wile" Arnett and Elizabeth "Betsy" Sizemore.

Merlie was a sister to Earl Bailey, a long-time member and good friend of all of us here at the Magoffin County Historical Society. Their parents were Noah Bailey and Lona Arnett. Noah was a son of James Bailey (1821-1892) and Mary A. Harper (1835-1900). James was a son of Lemuel Bailey and Annie Dykes. Annie was a dau of James and Preshi Dykes.

Noah Bailey’s wife Lona was a dau of Samuel H. Arnett and Susan McCarty who were married in 1878 Magoffin. Samuel was a son of Reuben Arnett and Emily Patrick. Susan was a dau of Charles and Hannah McCarty.

Visitor Lakota Arnett’s maternal grandparents were Kenneth Salyer and Emma Faye Burke.

Howard was a brother to South Salyer, a well-known Magoffin County musician whom we could always depend on for help with Magoffin County Founders Days. He also contributed genealogy info for our family books.

Walter Salyer was a son of Wiley Salyer (1834-1915) and Betty Ann Hensley (1866-1928). Wiley Salyer was a son of John Salyer and Polly Watkins. Betty Ann was born in Breathitt Co. KY to John Hensley and his wife Polly Stamper.
