Amy Hedges (regular mail
address 12808 F. M. 901, Sadler, TX 76264, email address ([email protected]),
was here in Magoffin County recently researching family history. She
visited Amos Perkins, an old coon-hunting buddy of mine. Amos sent her
over to our research library.
Amy is particularly interested
in finding information about George Washington Perkins, Alamander Perkins
and Lola Cole. Her pedigree chart reads like this: Arthur Perkins was
born in 1906 at Logville, KY and died 1988 in Durant, OK. He was the son of
Alamander Perkins and Lola Cole of Ivyton, KY. Lola was the daughter of
James Cole and Arminta Hampton.
Alamander Perkins was a son of
George Washington Perkins and Lydia Watkins. G. W. Perkins’ mother was
Mary Elizabeth Perkins. It is said he was raised in the household of John
Simpkins. Irene Farmer of Lafayette, IN gives his name as
Elliott Simpkins so he may have had a double name.
If anyone can help Amy with
more information or can give pictures of the gravesites of any of her
ancestors she would be very grateful.
Another visitor was Sue Rudd
Tingley and her family. She is from Michigan and was researching the
Trusty line. Sue is the daughter of James Earl Rudd and Goldie Trusty.
James Earl Rudd was a son of Noah Rudd and Julia Coffey. Noah Rudd was a
son of James Harvey Rudd and Louellen Wilson. Noah’s wife Julia was a
daughter of James Daniel Coffey and Rosa Belle Reed.
Goldie Trusty Rudd was a
daughter of Charlie Trusty and Minnie Poe. Charlie Trusty was a son of
Jeff Trusty and Gilly Ann Wages. Charlie’s wife Minnie was a daughter of
William Poe and Aggie Jordan.
Can anyone supply more info on
Jeff and Gilly Ann (Wages) Trusty? Please share with us at Box 222, Salyersville, KY
41465 (email:
[email protected]).
Magoffin County Founders Days
2012 is shaping up nicely. We urge everyone who would like to do so to
get involved and help with this family-oriented happening in our county.
This year the emphasis is on the MARSHALL family and we are getting some
great material. This is another way you can help also. If you have a
Marshall ancestor anywhere in your family line then you are invited to
share your genealogy and pictures with us. We also ask that you write
about your ancestors and tell your memories of them so that we have more
than just names and dates.
At our last meeting we were
able to show off the Marshall family tee-shirt. It is a beautiful red
shirt with athletic gold imprint along with touches of white and black.
We think you will like it. The shirt design and colors were chosen by
Marshall descendants at two
earlier meetings we had here at the historical society.
Signing at this regular
meeting of the historical society on June 17th which also
happened to be Father’s Day were Connie A. Wireman, Jim Joseph, Dale
Salyer, Dallas Bentley, Kay Bentley, Todd Preston, Randall Risner, Brenda
Kay Howard, Dorothy S. Wireman, Charles Marshall and Melinda Poe.
We got some good input into
the genealogy of the Marshall family as well as ideas to implement into
our Founders Day plans. Remember that the 34th annual Magoffin
County Founders Day will begin on Tuesday, August 28th and
events go through Monday, September 3rd of this year 2012.
Labor Day may seem like a long time off but will be here before you know
it so come on in and be a part of the festivities.
We are getting some response
from people who live out of state and who are planning to be here.
Remember that this is a Magoffin County Homecoming event and all are
welcome.
We have been working to get
another Journal in the mail and out to our members and I hear that another
issue is already in the works. Finishing work is also being done on the
last volume of our Veteran’s series so I am really looking forward to
that. We would never have imagined that the veteran’s series would run
into the thousands of pages and take six volumes of at least 400 pages
each to contain the information we received. This was a project to
commemorate those who served our country from World War One up to the
present. Even with the voluminous amount of material that we have we
still realize there are some of our military men and women who did not get
their information into these printed volumes. We have started a last
volume and have already put many pages into it so this is an on-going
project for us.
