This article, written by Todd Preston, President of the Magoffin County Historical Society, was taken from the
October 28, 2010 issue of THE SALYERSVILLE INDEPENDENT newspaper.

“Now hear this!  Now hear this!” was an announcement frequently heard from all over the service camps in yesteryear’s World War 2 so DAV Chapter 15 releases this message.

The date of November 11th or Veteran’s Day 2010 will honor all living World War 2 veterans and we need help in identifying all those veterans.  A good many of them now reside out of county or state and we solicit your help in getting this message to them.

The schools of our county have planned programs during Veterans Day week and the DAV will be visiting the local schools with the Magoffin County High School meeting to be at 11 a.m. on Veteran’s Day.

I will identify those veterans of World War 2 that we now have on file and ask that if you, our readers, know of any other living veterans of WWII to contact Randall Hardin or us here at the historical society (email: [email protected], telephone 606-349-1607) or write to us at Box 222, Salyersville, KY 41465.
