The Montgomery Cabin was
obtained from Samantha Bays of the Far Middle Fork near the mouth of
Paddle Branch and had been the home of Burg Montgomery. There is
speculation as to who built this cabin and when. One source believes Silas
Montgomery and his wife, Aggie Sizemore, built it. Another source claims
it was the Stephens cabin.
The chimney on this
reconstructed log cabin originally was attached to the Henry Cabin.
We have furnished this cabin
with the former Gunlock, Ky and Foraker, Ky post office cages. The Gunlock
post office was procured and donated by Janice Shepherd Cooley. The
Foraker Post Office material was donated by Bob and Thelma (Patton)
Salyer.
This room also has the glass
display case that came from the Grace Howard Store here in Salyersville.
The cabin has been decorated in an attempt to capture the old time General
Store / Post Office atmosphere with shelves filled with jars and canned
goods of yesteryear.
