STANFORD -- Billie L. Padgett, 67, of Waynesburg died Tuesday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born May 30, 1934, in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Virgil and Edith Jacobs Padgett. 
Survivors include his wife, Alma Faye Cook Padgett; five sons, Johnny, Freddie, Wayne and James Padgett, 
all of Waynesburg, and Sherrill Padgett of Nancy; four daughters, Annette Albright, Tammy Sears and Fonda DuPray, 
all of Stanford, and Kim Yocum of Waynesburg; three brothers, Hershell and Glen Padgett, both of Waynesburg, 
and Clayton Padgett of Stanford; a sister, Corine Thompson of Waynesburg; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Family Worship Center in Waynesburg. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary DuPray, Todd Seats, Johnny Yocum, Joseph Albright, Brantley Pennington, Kirk and Dallas 
Sheffield, and Tate Wesley.Honorary pallbearers are Clarence Swift, Murrell Denny, 
Joseph Moore, Jim Padgett, Paul Fox, Dr. Rod Bates and Billy Joe Ernst.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. 
Friday until time of service.

Wednesday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Nov. 12, 1912, in Williamsburg, he was a son of the late William 
C. and Anna Robert Patrick. He was the widow of Helen Stump Patrick.
Survivors include a son, William C. "Bill" Patrick Jr. of Stanford; a 
brother, Lloyd Patrick.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home. 
Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Oran Patterson

STANFORD -- Oran Patterson, 79, of Maywood Road died 
Saturday 5/27/2000 at his home.
Born Sept. 17, 1920, in Casey County, he was a son of the 
late Walter and Nancy Carman Patterson. He was a member 
of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. 
Survivors include his wife, Emma Greer Patterson; five 
sons, Billy Patterson and David Patterson, both of Stanford, 
and Ronald Patterson of Broughtontown, W.C. Patterson of 
Waynesburg and Donald Patterson of Hustonville; four daughters, 
Joyce Bryan and Nancy Wrenn, both of Danville, and Juanita 
Padgett and Patricia Merrell, both of Stanford; three brothers, 
Cleo Patterson and Dallas Patterson, both of Waynesburg, and 
Etheridge Patterson of Georgia; 32 grandchildren; 41 
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Patterson. 
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home by 
Johnny Adamson. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. 
Pallbearers will be Jamie, Steve, Donnie, David and Roger 
Patterson and Joe League. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy 
Bailey and Christopher and Warren Patterson. Visitation

He died Sunday at his home.
Born April 3, 1941, in Casey County, he was the son of the late 
Cash and Tula Rowan Patterson. He was an assembler for Jackson 
Chair Co. for 36 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Paulette Gilpin of Eubank; a son, 
Michael P. Patterson of McKinney; a companion, Beulah Naylor of 
Stanford; a brother, Johnny Patterson of Kings Mountain; two sisters, 
Hazel Johnson of Russell Springs and Ellen Brown of Geneva; two 
grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today.

Floyd Payne

CRAB ORCHARD -- Floyd Payne, 71, of Elm Street died Tuesday at Ephraim 
McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born April 5, 1931 in Brodhead, he was the son of the late Charlie and 
Monte Weaver Payne. He was a retired welder and a former employee of 
Cherokee Trailer Sales in Stanford. He also was a Navy veteran and 
member of Hickory Grove Pentecostal Church in Brodhead.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Burton Payne; three daughters, 
Deborah Adams and Kathy Ramey, both of Crab Orchard, and Connie Denny 
of Brodhead; a son, Ricky Payne of Crab Orchard; a brother, Phillip 
Payne of Brodhead; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He 
was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya M. Payne.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at McKnight Funeral Home by Randall 
Adams. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery with military rites by 
Caswell Saufley American Legion Post 18 of Stanford.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday.

Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. 
Born Aug. 7, 1923, in Lincoln County, he was the son of 
the late Adam and Mayme Owsley Perry. 
Survivors include his wife, Grace Bunch Perry; three daughters, 
Mayme Barron of Mount Vernon, Sharlon Jean Denny of Brodhead 
and Wanda Mullins of Waynesburg; three sons, Delbert and 
Freddie Perry, both of Crab Orchard and Michael Perry of 
Hustonville; two sisters, Marie Bunch of Mount Vernon and 
Ruby Epperson of Brodhead; a brother, Arthur Perry of Crab 
Orchard; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death 
by a son, Jerry Perry; and a daughter, Frances Perry. 
Services will be noon Tuesday at Friendship Baptist Church 
with Darrell Gentry and Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in 
Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be after

Monroe Perry, born in Lincoln County May 15, 1918, died in Cincinnati, OH on May 16, 1957 in a 
car accident. He was the son of Willie (Cress) Perry and Annie Wheeler Perry. He was the 
husband of Dorothy Doss Lowe Perry and the biological father of Robert Wayne Perry/Myers.

He had two siblings, Milford T. (Mary Kidd) Perry and Vestel Perry Oaks (Mrs. Charles T. Oaks).

He had seven step children: Anna Jane, Billy Ray, Betty Jean, Norma Ruth, Mary Sue, Katie Lou 
and Lytha Mae Lowe.

She died Wednesday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born July 16, 1945, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late

Greetings Co. and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas "Pete" Peyton; a son Vince D. 
Peyton of Danville; a daughter, Kay Peyton of Danville; two brothers, 
Paul N. and James E. Lynn, both of Danville; three sisters, Dorothy 
Wilcher of Salvisa, and Patty Kimberling and Betty Baugh, both of

Edd Phillips, 93, of Rt. 3, Stanford, (Neals Creek Community) died Sunday, May 
8 at the Friendship House in Danville, Ky.

A native of Boyle County, he was born October 6, 1896. He was a retired state 
highway employee and the widower of Lula Mae Phillips. A son, William S. Gilpin 
preceded in him death also.

Survivors include a son, Walker Earl Rowe, Jr., Stanford; three daughters, 
Nyoka Naylor, Lexington, Lula Ferguson, Middletown, Ohio and Amanda Lewis of London, 
Ky.; a sister, Katie Hazlett of Stanford; and serveral grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10 at the Fox Funeral Home with Rev. 
Elmor Ray officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Elzie Phillips Succumbs Thursday After Long Illness

Mr. Elzie Phillips, 80 of Route 1, Waynesburg died Thursday morning at the 
Friendship House, Danville, after a long illness.

He was a native of Boyle County but had lived in Lincoln County for the last 53 
years. He was a retired plumber, a member of the Fairview Baptist Church, veteran of 
World War I, member of DAV and the Waynesburg Basonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Phillips, Route 1, Waynesburg; three 
daughters, Mrs. John Whitaker, Elwood, Ind.; Mrs. Lloyd Thompson, Mores Hill, Ind.; 
Mrs. Robert Ward, Canton, Ohio; two sons, Richard Phillips and Elzie Phillips Jr., both 
of Elwood, Ind.; three sister, Mrs. Katie Hazlett, Mrs. Georgia Hazlett and Mrs. Ellen 
Hale, all of Stanford; two brothers, Ed and John Phillips, both of Stanford; 26 
grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Fairview Baptist church at 2:30 p.m. 
Saturday by the Rev. Elmore Ray.

Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gilbert Sebastian, Lloyd McGuffey, Charles Reed, Bill Yentsch, 
Roy McGuffey and Chester Reed.

Honorary bearers were Roy Willoughby, Leroy Tillet, John Zwahlen, Charles

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Mack Edward Phillips, 78, of San Antonio died March 31.
Born Jan. 11, 1924, in Stanford, he was the son of the late Mack and Bessie Green 
Phillips. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was 
a Kentucky Colonel and a Mason.
Survivors include four sisters, Lillian Jessee of Amelia, Va., Janie Morgan of 
Louisville, Bessie Ellis of Harrodsburg and Juanita Noland of Crab Orchard; five 
brothers, Wheeler, Albert and Phillip Phillips, all of Stanford, Robert Phillips of 
Harrodsburg and Allen Phillips of Lancaster.
Services were held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
Colonial Chapel Hill Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mr. Mack Phillips, age 64, of Route 3, Stanford, died unexpectedly of a heart 
attack at his home Tuesday.

Mr. Phillips, a native of Lincoln County, was a retired farmer and a member of 
the Fairview Baptist Church.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Janie Owen and Mrs. Lillie Coomes, both 
of Louisville; Mrs. Bessie Murphy, Harrodsburg; Mrs. Juanita Noland, Stanford; eight 
sons, Wheeler, Dellie, Alberta, Allen, Phillip Wayne and Odell Phillips, all of 
Stanford; PFC Elzie Roberts Phillips, U.S. Army, Saigon, South Viet Nam; Mack Edward 
Phillips, San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Elzia, John and Ed Phillips, all of 
Stanford; three sisters, Mrs. Kate and Georgia Hazlett, Mrs. Dellie Hale, all of 
Stanford, and 19 grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Paul Lawson at the 
Fairview Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will remain at the Beazley and Raney funeral Home, where arrangements 
are being handled, until time for the funeral.

Ella Hale, Mrs. Katie Hazlett and Mrs. Georgie Hazlett, all of Stanford rural route; a 
sister, Mrs. Newt Hallard, Fayette County, Ky.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Neals Creek Methodist 
Church with the Reverend Garrett officiating.

Interment was at the Fairview Cemetery.

Grandsons of Mrs. Phillips served as pallbearers.

Jerry Beck. Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery in Broughtontown.
Born Nov 28, 1902 in Ash County, NC, she was the daughter of the late 
J.W. and Sarah Johnson Cornett. She was a homemaker and belonged to 
the Mount Olive Church. She was the widow of Charlie Plummer and was 
preceeded in death by two sons, Charles and Raymond Plummer.
Survivors include three sons, Phillip Plummer of Brandon, Fl; Donald 
Plummer of Goshen, Oh; and Kenneth Plummer of Hamilton, Oh; one 
daughter, Helen Thompson of Louisville; one half brother, Bobby Cornett 
of Batesville, In; one half-sister, Gladys Cornett of Batesville, In; 
15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and one great-great 
grandchild.

STANFORD -- Services for Jack D. Portwood, 64, of High Ridge 
Road, will be 11 a.m. Monday August 6, 2001. 
Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
He died Friday August 3, 2001 at the University of Kentucky Chandler 
Medical Center, Lexington.
Born March 9, 1937, in Blackey, he was the son of the 
late Elmer D. and Mae Trammell Portwood. 
He served as the first principal of Lincoln County High 
School from 1974-89 and afterward became assistant 
superintendent of the Lincoln County school system until 
he retired in 1994. 
Survivors include his wife, Donna Reynolds Portwood; a 
daughter, Ramona Newman of Richmond; a special niece, 
Portia Reichenbach of Stanford; two brothers, Charles 
Doug Portwood of Red Fox and Ray Portwood of Lexington; 
three sisters, Betty Blair of Blackey, Nell Frazier of 
Live Oak, Fla., and Doris Hagan of Lebanon; and two 
granddaughters.
Pallbearers will be Stuart Underwood, Marvin Marshbanks,

fire chief for 22 years before retiring in 1981 from the city of 
Danville.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Hammonds Preston; a daughter, Carol 
Ann Preston of Danville; a brother, Hillard Preston of Danville; and 
two sisters, Lucille Manning of Danville and Edith Evermon of San 
Antonio, Texas.

and Dovie Wilson Price. He was a retired mechanic and truck driver 
having worked for Ford Tractor Sales and John Deere Co. He was a member 
of Beech Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ferrell Price; four sons, Larry 
Price of Leesburg, Fla., Mark Price of Crab Orchard, Greg Price of 
Webster, Fla., and Steven Price of Stanford; four daughters, Linda

1985 at the Fort Logan Hospital.
A native of Lincoln County she was born February 9, 1905. She was a member of 
the Church of God.
Survivors include four sons, Ernest, John, Lewis and Tommy Wallin, all of 
Crab Orchard; three daughters, Sally Burke, Crab Orchard, Evelyn Robinson, 
Middletown, Ohio; and Ella Mae Graham, Stanford; one stepdaughter, Rhoda Pruitt,

Mary Francis Crane Rector. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran .He was a 
member and deacon of Mount Hebron Baptist Church. He was the widower of Grace 
Parker Rector and Lela Francis Rector. He was preceded in death by a son, 
Thomas Rector.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Elizabeth Davis and Mary Ruth 
Chieffalo, both of LaCruis, New Mexico; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren;

of Sumter, S.C.; a daughter, Deborah S. Shillinger of Silverton, Ohio; a sister, Sherry Stoeke of Taylor Mill; two brothers, 
Lee and Lonnie Maggard, both of Stanford; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brian and Chad Phelps, Brandon and Justin Reynolds, Kenneth Maggard and Ronny Jones.

CRAB ORCHARD -- Tommy Wayne Reynolds Sr., 45, of Pine Grove Road died 
Wednesday at his home.
Born May 20, 1956, in Stanford, he was the son of Eva Denny Reynolds 
Jennings of Crab Orchard and Thomas Reynolds of Somerset. He was owner 
and operator of Reynolds and Son Construction. He was the husband of 
Carlene Denson Reynolds, and was a member of Union Chapel Holiness 
Church.
Survivors also include one son, Tommy Wayne Reynolds Jr. of Crab 
Orchard; one daughter, Dana Reynolds of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Tina 
Stickler of Waynesburg and Jackie Stringer of Greenbrier, Tenn.; two 
brothers, Billy Joe Reynolds of Crab Orchard and Allen Larue Reynolds 
of Somerset; stepfather, Emby Jennings of Crab Orchard; and stepmother, 
Shirley Reynolds of Somerset.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Chapel Holiness Church, Hwy. 
1505, Brodhead, by Ralph Reynolds. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist 
Church Cemetery.

Jewell Edna McCowan Rothwell Rice, 92, of the Moreland 
area died Monday at her home. Born Nov. 2, 1908, in High 
Bridge, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Geneva Horton 
McCowan. She was a member of Harris Creek Baptist Church 
and the widow of Charles T. Rothwell and Jack Rice. 
Survivors include two daughters, E. Eloise Singleton of 
Danville and Helen M. Simpson of Stanford; 
two sons, Kenneth E. and Eddie S. Rothwell, both of Stanford; a 
sister, Lillian Irene Tusan of Azusa, Calif.; a half brother, 
Eddie McCowan of Middleburg; 18 grandchildren; several great- 
and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 
a son, Charles T. Rothwell Jr.; and a daughter, Jewell Maxine 
Alsman; and three grandchildren. 
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral 
Home by Kenneth Smith and Gary Story. Burial will be in 
Bellevue Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Memorials 
may go to Heritage Hospice or Harris Creek Baptist Church.

L Adele Rice, 83, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001 in the University
of Kentucky Medical Center. She retired after forty years as a
school teacher at Lincoln and Russell Elementary Schools and 
she had worked for the Dept of Human Resources. She was born
in Paris, Ky, daughter of the late Lawrence H and Christine Asher
Rice. She is survived by a close and dear friend, Earl Jones,
Lexington. Funeral services 1:30 p.m. today at W R Milward 
Mortuary-Southland conducted by Rev Michael Wilson. Burial
in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford, Ky. Friends may call today

Norma J. Rice, 61, of Stanford House, died Friday 4/12/2002 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born March 10, 1941, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the 
late Fred and Essie F. Thomas Rice. She was a member of Parksville Knob 
Independent Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Lillian Allender of Hustonville and 
Nancy Reynolds of Parksville; seven brothers, Freddie Rice of Fulton, 
Ind., Howard Rice of Mitchellsburg, David Rice and Joseph Rice, both of

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Horn Roberts; two

Baptist Church and a former nursing assistant, having worked for 
Autumnfield Nursing Home in Danville and Fort Logan Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis Robertson; a son, Kenneth 
Frederick of Junction City; two stepsons, David and Charles Robertson, 
both of Rushville, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Angie Mason of Georgetown; two 
brothers, Lowell Wall of Kings Mountain and Raymond Wall of Stanford; 
two sisters, Gay Manuel and Kay Brummett, both of Crab Orchard; three 
grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by a son, Norman L. "Buster" Frederick.

today at her home.

Department Store, formerly in Stanford, and was a charter member of the 
Stanford First Church of God. She was a member of the Lincoln County 
Senior Citizens group.
Survivors include a daughter, Nellie Rogers of Lexington; two sons, 
Bill Rogers of Stanford and Wayne Rogers of Wilmore; eight 
grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was the widow of 
James Rogers.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Stanford First Church of God by Paul 
Bastin. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Lewis Rogers of Stanford; and five sisters, Daisy Emerson and Nannie E.

died Friday at Suburban Hospital, Louisville.
Born May 28, 1923, in Pulaski County, he was a son of the late Acton 
and Emma Estella Wall Routin. He was a retired detective with the 
Louisville Police Department, an Army and Air Force veteran of World 
War II and a member of Progress Masonic Lodge No. 932, Daylight Chapter 
No. 214, Order of the Eastern Star, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 
6, Louisville, and Cedar Creek Baptist Church. 
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Begley Coulter Routin; two 
daughters, Sandra Robbins of Louisville and Mary Hagan of Jacksonville, 
Fla.; three brothers, Cleo Routin of Somerset and James Routin and 
Stanley Routin, both of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Joyce Carter of 
Somerset; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was 
preceded in death by a son, Joey Routin.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home by 
Greg Lucas. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.
