STANFORD - Services for Josephine E. Barlow, 82, of Danville, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Lester. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Born May 21, 1924, in the Turnersville community in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Leah Wilcher Estes. She retired from Palm Beach Co. and was a member of First Baptist Church on Broadway in Danville.

Survivors include three sons, Conway Barlow of Sellersburg, Ind., Tom Barlow of Harrodsburg and Mike Barlow of Danville; a sister, Ruth Long of Stanford; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Toban and Ernie Barlow, Craig Padgett, and Todd, Daniel and Justin Barlow.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may go to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 317 W. Broadway, Danville.

Born Jan. 4, 1942, in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late John and Ida Tillett Martin. She was retired from the medical records department at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and a member of Sloans Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Carl C. Cassidy; a son, Rex Cassidy of Burnside; two brothers, Ernest Martin of Danville and Donald Martin of Hustonville; four sisters, Sylvia Linville of Somerset, Helen Parras of Scarsdale, N.Y., Louise Atwood of Hustonville and Alice Young of Lexington; and her caregiver, Norma J. Thurman.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pulaski Funeral Home by the Revs. Ernest Martin and Daniel Smith. Burial will be in Sloans Valley Cemetery.

Carrie Carrier, 81, of the Highland Community in Lincoln County, formerly of Harrodsburg, died March 31, 2002 at her residence.

Born October 23, 1920 in Letcher County, she was the daughter of the late Willard Calvin Baker and Julie Sergent Baker. She was the widow of Elmer Carrier.

Survivors include: a nephew, Henry Baker, GA; four sisters-in-law, Dessie (Eugene) Carrier, Waynesburg, Peggie Ann (Etherage) Carrier, Danville, and Evelyn (Ed) Kreiture, Dayton, OH, and Edith Young of Stanford. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Ronald Lee and Michael Gordon Carrier; one son, David Lynn Carrier; one sister, Dottie Baker; and one brother, Luther Baker.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 3, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford with Rev. John Lowery and Rev. Robert Cox officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barry Carrier, Eugene Carrier, Etherage Carrier, Jerry Carrier, Vic Young, Robert Wayne Young, Lanny Hubbard and Ricky Wesley.

CAUDILL, Ralph K. (Kenton) SUPREME SACRIFICE PAID BY CAUDILL BOY; ARMY SAYS “PRESUMABLY DEAD” Missing since November 27, 1950, Sgt. Ralph K. Caudill, son of Mr. And Mrs. James E. Caudill Route 1, Waynesburg, has been classed “presumably dead” in a letter from the Army Adjutant General. “Full consideration has been given to all information bearing on the absence, including all records, reports and circumstances of your son”, the letter said. Sgt. Caudill was reported seriously wounded in January of 1951 and reported missing in March of 1951. No word has been received by his parents since then. He attended Highland High and went into the army when 17 years old. His basic training was taken at Camp Breckenridge and was a Sergeant in the Infantry when reported missing. He attended Fairview Baptist Church at Hall’s Gap and was a popular boy in the high school he attended. He was born in 1931. Other children and relatives of the bereaved parents are three brothers, Watson Caudill, Dayton; Jim Caudill, Waynesburg and Charlie Caudill, Cincinnati; three sisters, Mrs. Ray Jenkins, Waynesburg; Mrs. Lonzo McGuffey, Dayton and Miss Dixie Caudill at home and grandparents, Mrs. Leona Truller, Isom, KY and J. D. Hale, Red Fox, KY. The Army said in the letter that he was presumed dead as of December 31, 1953. Mr. And Mrs. Caudill have given the supreme sacrifice as well as their son for this country. Elizabeth Chambers, 83, of Hughley Lane, died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center.

Born March 21, 1918 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Burton Bryant. She was the widow of Irvine Chambers.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include: three daughters, Lue Anna McKenney and Mary Frances Gross, both of Harrodsburg, and Thelma Hall of Lexington; two sons, W.C. Chambers of Greenwood, IN, and David Lee Chambers of Parksville; a brother, Marshall Bryant of Danville; four sisters, Roberta Jackson of Danville, Geneva Brickey of Lancaster, Alma Robinson and Josephine Hurt of Junction City; seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home. The Rev. Byron Jessup and the Rev. Tim McKenzie officiated and burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Teddy McKenney Jr., Tommy Chambers, David Murphy, David Allen Chambers, Jeff King and Rick Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers were Cindy Nevius, Dana Murphy and Janice Dearing.

CRAB ORCHARD - Donald Lewis Crank, 73, of Crab Orchard, died Saturday at Thompson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Born Feb. 1, 1933, in Brodhead, he was the son of the late Edd and Bertha Vaughn Crank. He was an employee of General Electric, an Air Force veteran and a member of New Hope First Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Steenbergen Crank; two sons, Donald L. Crank of Louisville and Scott Crank of Mount Washington; a daughter, Donna J. Scott of Lancaster; a brother, Carl Crank of Stanford; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at New Hope First Church of God by Gary Griffith and Harold Harness. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donald Cable, Travis Watson, Ray and David Denny, Everett Adams, Bill Shelton, Connel Anderson and George Burdine. Honorary pallbearer is Donald Lear.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. Sunday at McKnight Funeral Home and after 1 p.m. Monday at New Hope First Church of God.

STANFORD - Services for Joe B. Davidson, 84, of Stanford, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Max Hester. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion.

Born June 11, 1922, in London, he was a son of the late G.E. and Maggie Gilbert Davidson. He was retired from the Air Force after 30 years, having served during World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars. He worked for the Civil Service for eight years at Fort Campbell and was a member of Turnersville Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Lee Smith Davidson; a daughter, Vicky L. Davidson of Atlanta; a brother, Raleigh L. Davidson of Yearington, Nev.; and a sister, Martha Davidson Irvine of Stanford. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joe Ann Davidson.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Burton, Gary Burton, Jimmy Godbey, David Irvine, Ronald McWhorter, Harold Kelley, Donnie Cain and Kent Ellis. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Cain, T.D. Irvine, Ronnie Graves, Bennie Smith and Cecil Allen. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday. Memorials may go to American Cancer Society.

Born July 4, 1919, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Betty Young. She was a former employee of Cowden Manufacturing Co., a babysitter, a homemaker and a founding member of Mid-County Rescue Squad and Stanford Emergency Medical Service. She was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church and the widow of the late J.C. Dawson.

Survivors include a son, Matthew Brent of Stanford; two daughters, Betty Farris of Stanford and Carolyn Halcomb of Brodhead; two sisters, Bea Poynter and Edna Bastin, both of Stanford; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home by Johnny Adamson. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy, Bobby and Danny Halcomb, Larry Young, Mark Denham, Calvin Denham, Billy Miracle and Marion Bastin. Honorary pallbearers are members of Stanford EMS and members of the staff of Lifeline Home Health Care.

LANCASTER - Willie Day, 104, of Hamilton Valley Road died Friday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1892, in Leslie County, he was the son of the late Henry and Matilda Lewis Day. He was the widower of Martha Wells Day. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, George Day of Crab Orchard and Chester Day of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two daughters, Rose Sparks and Mollie Helton, both of Garrard County; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 45 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ramsey Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Day family cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.

MIDDLEBURG - Services for Clayton Durham, 62, of Red Bud Road, Waynesburg, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Olive Christian Church by the Rev. Greg
Powell. Burial with military rites by the County Funeral Squad will be in Salyers Cemetery.
He died Thursday at his home.
Born Aug. 27, 1935, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Roscoe and Ruth Ramey Durham. He was a former employee of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.
and an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy McClure Durham; three brothers, Chester Durham of Somerset, John E. Durham of Yosemite and Richard Durham of Louisville;
three sisters, Jeanette Thompson of Danville and Mary Lou Lyons and Brenda Galloway, both of Harrodsburg.

MORELAND - Lillie Powers Ellis, 82, of Hustonville, died Friday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Born July 23, 1916, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Sherman and Ida Coffman Powers. She was a retired employee of the Palm Beach Plant in Danville and a member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church, Casey County.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Ellis; and one son, John Ellis of Hustonville.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don Dotson, Joe Dotson, Glen Johnson, Jody Clements, Kenny Melear and Gerald Rousey.

James Marion Estridge, age 51, died suddenly Sept 19 at his home. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer, both in the state of Kentucky and North Carolins, having graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1941. He was a member of Lincoln Lodge No. 60, F & A. M and a member of V.F.W. Post 7101 Stanford and quarter master and service officer and was a member of Stanford Chapter D. A. V.

He was very active in the American Red Cross of Lincoln County having served as campaign chairman for ten years.

He was a veteran of World War II with the following medals; Good Conduct Medal, Phillipine Liberation Riccon, with one bronze star; World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with tow bronze service stars and American Theater Ribbon. He assisted all vererans regardless of race or wealth in securing benefits due them from military service and assisted any one who asked him regarding welfare, food stamps or other pensions. He was associated with the Beazley, Raney and Speaks Funeral Home as funeral director and embalmer for 30 years.

He was interested in every worthy cause and had a kind word for everybody. He will be greatly missed by all who had the priviledge of knowing him. It can truthfully said that he numbered his friends by his acquaintances. His personality was outstanding and he was generous to a fault.

His life touched many lives and all were benefited for having known him. We will Cherish his memory and profit by his example of kindness and unselfishness to all.

Mrs. Laura W. Estridge, age 84, of Stanford, Route 1, died Saturday Sept. 2 at the Fort Logan Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Estridge, a native of Laurel County was a member of the Crab Orchard Christian Church. The widow of J. M. Estridge who died April 1932. She had lived there for the past 50 years.??

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Ernest Estridge of Harrodsburg and Mr. James M. Estridge of Stanford; two daughters, Mrs. J. C. “Nannie” White of Stanford, Route 1 and Mrs Lloyd “Loraine” Fowler of West Lafayette, Ohio, eight grandchildren and a great grand child.

Services were conducted at the Beazley Raney and Speaks Funeral Home, Monday Sept. 4 at 12 p.m. by Dr. J. M. Kelley of Harrodsburg. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

MORELAND - Services for Donald Lee "Duck" Evans, 55, of Danville, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Born Oct. 6, 1950, he was the son of the late Donald L. Evans and Elizabeth Childers Brock Baxter. He owned and operated Don's Custom Upholstery for 17 years. He was a former two-time state commander of the Sons of AmVets in Kentucky and second vice-commander of Sons of AmVets Post 123, Danville.

Survivors include his sister, Linda Brock of Lexington, N.C.; two half sisters, Darlene Easton of Bloomington, Ind., and Debbie Witt of Gold Hill, Ore.; two half brothers, Cleo G. Brock Jr. of Rockingham, N.C., and Robert Brock of Danville; a stepsister, Pam Echeveria of Ohio; and four stepbrothers, Randy, Dewey, Bobby and Terry Baxter, all of Danville.

Gladys Gooch, 85, Lowery Road, Somerset, Kentucky passed away Monday, June 12^th, 2006 at Britthaven of Somerset, Somerset, Kentucky,

She was born September 10^th, 1920 in Lincoln County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Tillden Gooch and Annie Gooch Sims. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by one son; Dennis (and Kathy) Gooch, Poplarville, Community: six grandchildren; Denise Gooch, Candy (and Jason) Sears, Karen Gooch, Patrick Gooch, Arnold Gooch and Melissa Gooch: 3 great grandchildren; Chelsie Sears, Jasmine Sears and Katelyn Gooch: previous daughter-in-law; Linda (and James) Gibson of Somerset, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents: three brothers; Russell, Sam and Gene Gooch.

STANFORD - Bowen Gover Good, 85, of Marietta, Ga., died Tuesday at Haven Hospice House in Marietta. Born Nov. 22, 1918, in Stanford, he was the son of the late Bowen Gover Good Sr. and Pearl Norine Raines Good. He was a regional manager for Life of Virginia Insurance Co. and a Navy veteran. He was the widower of Betty Woodward Good.

Survivors include a niece, Jane B. Renner of Louisville; a great-nephew; and a great-niece. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Fox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GOODIN, James L.
James Logan Goodin, was stillborn Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was a son of James B. and Lanice Johnson Goodin of Stanford.
Other survivors include a sister, Brittany M. Goodin; grandparents, Penny and Mike Johnson of Hustonville, and Linda and James Goodin of Stanford; great-grandparents, Bernice Johnson of Danville, Betty and Roy Wafford of Palm Coast, Fla., Ed and Vina Martin of Stanford, and William and Virginia Goodin of Stanford.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Born May 12, 1917, in Mount Vernon, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lila French Carpenter. She was a member of the Church of God. She was the widow of James H. Green.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Allen of Lexington, Ronnie Kidd of Preachersville, Charles Kidd of Danville and Darrell Kidd of Mount Vernon; four daughters, Bernice Lee of Wilmore, Mary Haas of Cincinnati, Evelyn Smith of Lexington and Edna House of Crab Orchard; 32 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lydia Lee.

Services will be noon Tuesday at McKnight Funeral Home by Robert Allen and Noah Hendrickson. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

MORELAND - Donald R. Grubbs, 59, of Indianapolis, died Monday in Indiana. Born July 6, 1945, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Raymond and Addie Mullins Grubbs. He was a painting contractor. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Grubbs; three stepsons, Eddie, Johnny and Donnie Greggs; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday.

MORELAND - Evelyn McElfresh Hanson, of Moreland, died Thursday at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lillian Driesler McElfresh. She was a homemaker and a member of Moreland Christian Church. She was the widow of James Lee Hanson.

Survivors include three daughters, Connie Copings of Paintsville, Jane Frazier of Louisville and Wanda Rankin of Moreland; a brother, Lee Roy McElfresh of Moreland; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Moreland Christian Church by the Rev. David Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Services for Patricia and Carl J. Hart, of Eubank, were held today at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill by David Fralix. Burial was in Eubank Cemetery. They were in an auto accident Sunday in Waynesburg. They are survived by three sons, Carl M. Hart and James Al. Hart, both of Eubank, and Anthony W. Hart of Somerset; and a daughter, Sharon M. Fletcher of Franklin, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Born May 9, 1939, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Jim B. and Martha A. Vaught Moore. She was retired from BPI Co. in Stanford and a member of Eubank Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Carl Marion & (Lesha) Hart of Eubank, James Allen & (Nancy) Hart of Eubank and Anthony Wayne & (Kathy) Hart of Somerset, a daughter, Sharon Marie & (Jon) Fletcher of Franklin, Tennessee, a brother, Remis Moore of Houstonville, Kentucky, a sister, Betty Lou Hargis of Eubank, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was followed in death by her husband, Carl Jarvis Hart, whom she married on March 23, 1959, preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, John Henry Moore, William Moore and Earl Moore and four sisters, Mary Terry, Thelma Correll, Alma Anderson and Grace Vanhook.

Other survivors include a brother, Remis Moore of Hustonville; and a sister, Betty Lou Hargis of Eubank.

Carl Jarvis Hart, 69, of Eubank, died Sunday at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born March 20, 1937, in Pulaski County, he was a son of the late Nealie and Lena O'neal Hart. He was retired from Bastin's Sawmill and a member of Woodstock Baptist Church, Somerset.

Timothy Luke Hawkins Jr, age 14, resident of Cleveland and formerly of Stanford, Kentucky, died Monday morning, April 3, 2006, as a result of a drowning accident. He was a student at Ocoee Middle School in the 8th Grade. He was a member of the Moreland First Baptist Church in Hustonville, KY. He was preceded in death by his sister, Tristian Danielle Hawkins.

WAYNESBURG - Fred Hays, 70, of Hwy. 328 West, Eubank, died Thursday at a residence in South Fork community.
Born Dec. 12, 1926, in Knott County, he was a son of the late Franklin Pierce Hays and Martha Sawyers Hays. He was stepson of the late Joe Sparkman. He was a retired sawmill worker and the widower of Evelene Louise Williams Hays. He was a member of Pilot Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Dallas Hays of Bronston; three stepsons, Gary and Doug Baugh and Kevin Stephens, all of Eubank; two stepdaughters, Janet Dye of Nancy and Denise Miracle of Stanford; two brothers, Tom ``Sparkie'' Sparkman of Hopkinsville and Jocephus Sparkman of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Elizabeth Sparkman Scott and Melvina Sparkman, both of Madison, Ind., and Lucy Sparkman Beasley of Newton, Ala.; three grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

STANFORD - Emma Frances Shaw James, 86, of Columbus, Ohio, died Wednesday at Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center. Born May 24, 1918, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary Wyler Shaw. She was a retired sales clerk and the widow of Robert James.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy James Weaver of Columbus; two sisters, Ann Calloway of Crab Orchard and Rose James of Stanford; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. STANFORD - Buford Jenkins, 74, of Stanford, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born May 16, 1932, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Charles P. and Dovie Hardin Jenkins. He was a farmer and worked at University of Kentucky in construction. He was a member of Shakertown Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Brafford Jenkins; two stepsons, Joseph Minton of LaFayette, Ind., and Barry Minton of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Kim Baugh of Harrodsburg; a brother, Earl Jenkins of Versailles; two sisters, Margaret Lester and Edith Nowlin, both of Harrodsburg; and five stepgrandchildren.

Born Nov. 10, 1910, in Leslie County, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Martha Kilburn Day. She was a homemaker and a member of Dix River Church of Christ. She was the widow of Mitchell Joseph Sr. and was preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn Baker and Martha Boggs.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhoda Hacker and Ruth Warmouth, both of Lancaster; four sons, Willie, John H. and Mitchell Joseph Jr., all of Lancaster, Harold Joseph of Louisville; two brothers, Henry Day of London, and Raleigh Day of Smilax, Ky.; three sisters, Mary Fields and Oni Day, both of Smilax, and Ada Caudill of Central City; 37 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Willie Day. Burial will be in Dix River Cemetery.

Chester G. Kidd, 53, of Rt. 3, Stanford, died at Fort Logan Hospital after an extended illness, on Friday, January 28, 1977.

A native of Lincoln County and a retired mechanic. Mr. Kidd was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the First Church of God, Stanford. He was the son of the late Ollie J. and Martha Lynch Kidd.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise (Deathridge) Kidd, Rt. 3, Stanford: 3 daughters, Mrs Pam Lair, ………… The rest of the obituary is missing.

CRAB ORCHARD - Faith Ann Lawless, 6 weeks of age, of Crab Orchard died Friday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, Lexington.
Born Jan. 23, 1999, in Danville, she was the daughter of Tony and Sue Ann Crowe Lawless of Crab Orchard.
Additional survivors include a maternal grandfather, John Thomas Crowe of Stanford; a maternal grandmother, Mary Jane Pike of Waynesburg; a maternal great-grandfather, Charlie Crowe of Hustonville; and a paternal grandmother, Helen Lawless of Crab Orchard.
A graveside service will be held at 12:45 p.m. today at Double Springs Cemetery, Waynesburg, by Brad King.

Howard Lear, 61, of 136 Lakeview Point, Burgin, died Wednesday, September 3, 1998 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born May 17, 1937 in Lincoln County, he was the son of Mrs. Snobie Hopkins of Crab Orchard and the late Tom Lear.

He was a retired mechanic at Matsushita in Danville, an avid trap shooter, fisherman, a former drag racer, and was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Mayme McCormick Lear, one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa L. and her husband Howard Waggener, II of Burgin; two brothers, Albert and Billy Harmon Lear of Crab Orchard; one sister, Dorothy Vaughn Mullins of Richmond, two grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, at the Burgin Baptist church with Bro. Joseph Vest officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Wayne Hopkins, Lester Dean Hopkins, Andy Lear, Sammy Vaughn, Russell Lear, Shelby Roy Hopkins and David Hopkins.

Mrs. Martha Newland Martin, age 87, of Stanford Route 4, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, 12 Nov 1958 at her home near Turnersville, following an illness of three days.
She was the last surviving member of her family of 11.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Her husband, Mr. G R Martin preceded her in death in 1948.
Mrs. Martin is survived by four sons, Woodson T and Frank Martin both at home; James and John Martin both of Stanford Route 4: a daughter, Mrs. Mose (Ida Mae) Martin, Stanford Route 4; 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning by the Rev Ernest Martin of Lexington at the Beazley and Raney Funeral Home.

Velma Kathleen Giles Moore, 62, of 6805 Ky. 39 South, Crab Orchard, died Tuesday at her home. Born Jan. 14, 1934, in Fonde in Bell County, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Columbus and Agnes Alberta Sweet Giles. She was an operator for AT&T and a member of Northside Baptist Church in Winchester and the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a husband, Jesse K. Moore; two sons, Jesse Moore Jr. of Lexington and Franky Moore of Crab Orchard; a daughter, Tonya Greene of Mount Sterling; a sister, Delores Evans of Sharps Chapel, Tenn.; and two grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Cecil Roundtree. He died Saturday. Born July 11, 1947, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Homer and Ruby Inez Durham Mullins.

Survivors include his wife, Nilleta Oaks Mullins; one son, Justin Mullins of Eubank; one daughter, Jennifer Mullins of Eubank; one brother, Shirrell Mullins of Waynesburg; four sisters, Carol Dean Dick of Science Hill, Kathleen Floyd of Bethelridge, and Janet Taylor and Faustine Wilson, both of Cincinnati. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

STANFORD - Grace M. Peck, 76, of Hustonville, died Monday in Stanford at the home of her daughter of complications associated with bone cancer.
Born Oct. 22, 1920, in Ross County, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Edward O. and Anna Belle Detty Burt. She was a former owner of Pecks Cleaners and Laundry for 18 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dayton, Ohio, and the widow of Andy C. Peck.
Survivors include a son, Mark Peck of Hustonville; a daughter, Cindy Peck of Stanford; a brother, Vernon Burt of Trenton, Ohio, and a sister, Charity Horsely of Chillicothe, Ohio.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home by the Revs. Gary Story and Michael Weglicki. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

STANFORD - Sadie Grubbs Sears, 87, of McKinney, died Thursday at Stanford Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Nov. 21, 1918, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Lucian and Lillie Edwards Grubbs. She was a former Palm Beach Co. employee, a homemaker, a member of McKinney Christian Church and the widow of Robert L. Sears.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeanetta Kersey and Judith Lester, both of McKinney, and Janet Long of Stanford; two brothers, Paul Grubbs of Lexington and Melvin Grubbs of Indianapolis; a sister, Lucille Sims of Danville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sonny and Jason Lester, Tony Kersey, Bobby Payton, Harold Robinson and Harold Martin.

Born Jan. 12, 1937, he was the son of the late James H. and Lizzie Jeter Smiley. He was a member of Brush Creek Christian Church and Rocky Ford Masonic Lodge No. 763.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jim Smiley of Danville and Mrs. Joe Smiley of Lexington; and a nephew, David Smiley of Lexington.

STANFORD - Freda Jane Rice Stevens, 63, of Stanford, died Tuesday at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born Oct. 9, 1942, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas H. and Allie Hester Rice. She was a former employee of American Greetings Co. and Lee's Famous Recipe in Stanford. She attended Watts Chapel Baptist Church and was the widow of Ernest D. Stevens.

Survivors include a son, Kevin Stevens of Nicholasville; three daughters, Rhonda Lane, Debbie Wooldridge and Sherry Rose, all of Stanford; two brothers, Jack Rice of Crab Orchard and Roger Rice of Stanford; six sisters, Christine Henderson, Lucille Sudduth, Louise Spears, Annette Stickler and Linda Denham, all of Stanford, and Laverne Law of Louisville; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and seven stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Fox Funeral Home by Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Edith Kay Sutton, 87 of Oak Ridge, Tennessee died on March 12, 2006 at NHC Health Care of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Miss Sutton graduated from Berea College in 1940 and then pursued a successful career in public service. She taught school
at Broughtontown for a short time. Then she worked for several years in the US public Health Service. In the early 1950s she
accepted a job with the Social Security Administartion where she held positions of increasing responsibility in various offices in
North Carolina and Virginia. At the time of her retirement in 1986 she was Assistant Manager of the Social Security Office in Danville,
Virginia. In retirement she enjoyed travel, gardening and visits with her nieces and nephews. She attended the First Presbyterian
Church of Danville, Virginia until moving to Oak Ridge in 2003 to be near her sister Thelma Carlsmith.

Miss Sutton is survived by two brothers; Guyles Sutton and wife Margie of Frankfort, KY, and Gervis Sutton of Crab Orchard,
KY; a sister, Thelma Carlsmith and husband Roger of Oak Ridge, TN; and seven nieces and nephews. Another brother, Lewis
Sutton and another sister, Ruth Hild, died earlier. Her special friends were Pat and Ted Argyrakis of Danville, Virginia.

In accordance with her wishes, Miss Sutton will be cremated and buried in the family burial plot in Brodhead, KY. A memorial

STANFORD - Services for Vernon Clyde Tinsley, 76, of McKinney, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim Norman. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Born Feb. 15, 1930, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Rosetta Yocum Tinsley. He was a welder at Seller Engineering and a member of McKinney Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Scott Tinsley of West Liberty; four daughters, Susan Coffey and Lucy Belcher, both of Cincinnati, Clydeen Holmes of Florida, and Tara Salaheldin of Lexington; and three sisters, Helen Rowland and Myrtle Austin, both of Mount Salem, and Elsie Rogers of McKinney.

Born Dec. 10, 1956, in Harlan County, she was a daughter of Clentie and Hazel Collins Saylor of Crab Orchard. She was a homemaker and a member of Harmons Lick Free Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Ward of Lancaster, and a son, Clentie Lee Wilson of Lancaster.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Harmons Lick Free Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs: Farmer Saylor and Jimmy Durham. Burial will be in Saylor Cemetery.
