90 years ago.  Garland James died at his home of pneumonia at age 77. For 16 days he hovered between life and death. On last Thursday morning the spirit took its flight to the God who gave it. He was a devout member of the church and had professed religion early in life. No man ever walked the path of life any more circumspectly than he and was loved and admired by all and had a host of friends both rich and poor. He was known all over this section as “ Uncle Garl”.

He left an aged wife and four children. Elder J.G. Livingston, he being the deceased’s favorite preacher, conducted the funeral service. At the close of the service there was scarcely a dry eye in the room. The remains were laid to rest in the Abraham (Abrahms) burial ground.  (He died in 1905 and was the son of Thomas James & Elizabeth “Betsy” Kelly James)
