Elizabeth Sharlene Case Bradley, 72 of Moreland passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013. Born October 20, 1940 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Pina Maddox Case.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harley Lenton Bradley, who she married August 28, 1955. Sharlene was a homemaker and a devoted wife and mother. She was always willing to help someone in need with a smile on her face.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane Downey and husband, Danny, of Moreland; two grandchildren, Chris Downey and wife, Leslie of Liberty and Renee Lanigan and husband, Ryan of Moreland; and four great grandchildren: Sierra, William Thomas, Aiden and Asher.

Services will be at 1 pm, Wednesday, July 3rd at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home with burial in Hustonville Cemetery by Bro. Eric Douglas. Pallbearers are Chris Downey, Ryan Lanigan, Randy Southerland, Jeff Walls, Mike Walls and Larry Wheeler. Visitation is 5:30-8:00 pm, Tuesday.

Christine Caudill Brown, 87, of Finneytown, Ohio, passed away on Friday February 8, 2013.

She was born on May 10, 1925 Letcher Co. KY, daughter of the late Boney and Betty Pratt Caudill. She was a retired CNA.

She is survived by two daughters, Malinda Pennington, and Janice Carter; a loving daughter-in-law, Laura Brown, eleven grandchildren,
twenty great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Brown; one son, Steve Brown; and a son-in-law, Glenn Carter, three brothers; and three sisters.

A graveside service will be held 2:30 PM on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg with Bro. Wayne Stevens officiating.

Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Ernest H. Brown, 76, of Waynesburg, Ky, died July 1, at Fort Logan Hospital. He was born May 12, 1927 in Geneva, Ky. to the late Steve Willis and Dora Elizabeth (Naylor) Brown.

Brown was employed as a dockworker for 33 years at Commercial Motor Freight Company in Indianapolis until his retirement.

He was a former Member of the Glorious Church of God in Greenwood and current member of the Geneva Community Church. Brown loved working with horses.

Besides his parents, Brown was proceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Lee Brown, a son, Erniie Wayne Brown, two brothers, Toddy and Alfred K. Brown and a sister Mayme Privett.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Louise (Naylor) Brown, who he married March 25, 1948: two sons, Jimmie Ray Brown of Indeanapolis and Jeffrey Willis Brown, Sr. of Mooresville: five daughters, Mary Kathryne Smith and Debra Sue Addair, both of Indianapolis, MarilynRose Fry of Kings Mt., KyLouvetta Faye Warner of Hustonville, Ky and Paula Denise Pemberton of Stanford, Ky; brothers, Albert Vernon Brown of Hustonville and John Thomas (Tobe) Brown of Waynesburg; sisters, Emma King and Katherine Owen, both of Hustonville; 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held last Thursday (July, 03) at Fox Funeral Home, with brothers; Ed Carman, Lindsey Youcum and Billy Brown officiating.

Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Teresa Ann VonLinger Brown, 46, of McKinney died Monday at her home. Born June 19, 1964 in Lincoln County to Gene and Carolyn Yocum VonLinger. She was a past 2nd floor receptionist at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and a member of Green River Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years Lonnie Brown; a son Lonnie "Punkin" Brown (Vanessa) of Stanford, a daughter Barbara Moore (Donathan) of McKinney; her parents Gene and Carolyn VonLinger of Stanford; two brothers Lindsey Yocum (Donna) of McKinney and Albert Gene VonLinger, Jr. of Arizona; a sister Gina Leach (Barry) of Waynesburg; 3 sisters-in-law Patty Carrier, Pam Carrier and Lois Ann Wilcher; six granchildren Gunner, Faith, Zack and Kyla Moore and Keegan and Tatum Brown; 10 neices and nephews and 7 great neices and nephews; She was preceded in death by her grandparents Edith and Albert VonLinger and her mother-in-law Stella E. Brown.

Visitation will be Wednesday beginning at 6 pm at Green River Pentecostal Church, Funeral service will be Thursday at 2 pm at the Church with Brothers Rick Naylor and Mike Dixon officiating.


Casketbearers will be Shane Yocum, James and Michael Carrier, Tucker Leach, Russell, Steve and Bobby Brown and Marlan Tillett; honarary bearers will be Honey Brown, her pet, Karen Hawkins, Rose Stevens, Trina Davis, Jennie Mudd and Rita Baker.

Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford, KY.

Mrs. Maxine Butt, 78, of the Bee Lick Community of Rockcastle County, passed away Thursday, June 6, at the Golden Living Center in Stanford.

Born Jan. 29, 1935, in Little Rock, Ark., Maxine was a daughter of the late  Cranston and Ida Poindexter Sandusky.  She was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church, enjoyed the University of Kentucky Wildcats, crafts, reading, puzzle books, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a bookkeeper, a retired security officer at Rupp Arena in Lexington and the widow of William O’Bannon Butt.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers,  Thomas  and Sam Sandusky; and a grandson, Timothy Allen Taylor.

Survivors include a son, Keith Michael (Dorothy) Butt of Crab Orchard; a daughter:  Carole Ann (James) Taylor of Crab Orchard; two brothers, Ted (Bernice) Sandusky of Michigan and David Sandusky of Minnesota;  a sister,  Joyce (Jack) Griswold of Land Lake, Fla.;  four grandchildren,  Arlena M. (Jeremy) McFarland, Nicholas Wayne Butt, Breanna Lynn (Jordan) Burton, DeShonna Faye (David) Wright; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were June 10 at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating.  Burial was in the Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Robert Filmore Campbell, 79, of Casey Creek, died on November 24, at the Lebanon Hospital where he had been for three weeks. He was born in Boyle County on May 27, 1893, the son of Andrew and Sarah Harper Campbell
He was the father of Mrs. Ruby Douglas and Edgar Campbell, Liberty, Melvin Campbell, Lebanon; Delmer Campbell, Ohio; and Mrs. Edith Cones, Dayton, Ohio.
He was a brother of Henry and Finley Campbell, Liberty; Logan Campbell, Somerset; and Eliza Lanham, Cincinnati.
Services were held at the McKinney-Burton Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Lee Herron officiating on Sunday afternoon. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, in Stanford.

Delores Jean Carmack, age 54, of Eastwood Drive in Stanford, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.  Born Monday, September 22, 1958 in Madison County, she was the daughter of Charles & Millie Hicks Todd of Hagerstown, Indiana.  Her loving husband is Sherwin Carmack of Stanford, whom she married November 1983.  She was a homemaker.

In addition to her husband and parents, Delores leaves behind one son, Clayton Carmack of Stanford; one daughter, Allison King (Kyle) of Hagerstown, Indiana; one brother, Charles Todd, Jr. (Sandy) of Hagerstown, Indiana; and two grandchildren.

Honoring Delores’ wishes, Cremation Rites have been honored.  A Memorial Service will be held 7:00PM Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Fox Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Carmack officiating the service.

Visitation will be 5-7PM Wednesday at the funeral home.  Fox Funeral Home, Stanford, is entrusted with Delores’ arrangements.

Donna Gail Cummins, 49, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at University of Kentucky Medical Center.

She was born in Broughtontown, Kentucky on February 2, 1964, daughter of the late Tom Kidd Jr. and Wanda G. Hodge Caldwell.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Henry Cummins, one son, Justin Michael Blake Cummins, one daughter, Valerie Nicole Cummins, all of Waynesburg, five brothers, Danny Kidd of Indiana, Richard Caudill, Jeremy Caldwell, Gary Caldwell and Karl Caldwell, all of Mt. Vernon, KY, two sisters, Vicki & (Dalmas) Doan and Angela Gentry, both of Mt. Vernon, KY, twenty one nieces and nephews and twenty seven great nieces and great nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her father, Tom Kidd Jr., mother, Wanda G. Hodge Caldwell, step father, Jerry Caldwell, one brother, Michael Caudill and three sisters, Connie Kidd, Patricia Blevins and Michelle Bowman.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery, Broughtontown, KY.

Visitation will be after 10 AM Saturday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Robert Gene “Bobby” Cutter, Jr., 23, of Waynesburg passed away Sunday June 2. He was born Dec. 24, 1989 in Danville and was the son of Patricia (Steve) Hines of Waynesburg and the late Robert Gene Cutter, Sr. He worked as a mechanic.

He is survived by his fiancée, Amanda Roberts; 3 daughters, Rilee Grace Combs, Bella Gene Cutter and Jaylee “Jaylee Bug” Joseph; 3 sisters: Kimberly Cutter, Shawna Hines and Nikki Denney, all of Waynesburg and several nieces and nephews.

 

Services will be at 1 pm, Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Rev. Patrick Prather with burial in Highland Methodist Church Cemetery.

William Earl Denham, 73 of Stanford passed away Friday, June 7, 2013. Born July 15, 1939, he was the son of Angie Belle Cottrell Denham of Danville and the late Walter William Denham. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judie Marie Miracle Denham.

He had worked for Hester Motor Company and Lincoln Lumber, both of Stanford, Porcelain Metals of Louisville and was retired from Ford Motor Company (K.T.P.) in Louisville. Willie graduated from McKinney High School in 1958, was a member of U.A. W. Local 862 (Union of Auto workers), and was a retired member and captain of McKinney Area Rescue Squad. He served on the Blue Grass Community Action Board and Lincoln County 911 Board, was a member of the Cedar Creek Sportsman Club and a member of the Stanford Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Rice Denham; 2 sons: Curtis (Frankie) Denham and Doug (Nancy) Denham, both of Stanford; 3 daughters: Debbie (Vince) Staton of Casey County, Donna (Billy) Leek of Kings Mountain and Jennifer (Ricky) Gibson of Glasgow; 3 brothers: Vernon (Violet) Denham of Bullitt County, Leslie (Rosalyn) Denham of Waynesburg and Harold (Gayle) Denham of Lincoln County; 2 sisters: Joyce (James Earl) Davis of Danville and Angela Denham (and son, Will), of Danville; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 pm, Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Louie Hammons and Bro. Virgil Horseman with burial at Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers are Matt Staton, Kory Ratliff, Jacob Gibson, Zachary Gibson, Ron Rogers and Wayne Hacker. Doris Jane (Bailey) Denney, 80, of  Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

She was the wife of the late Othmer D. Denney, who preceded her in death on January 23, 1996.

Born Sept. 28, 1932, in Brodhead, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Delver and Mary (Brock) Bailey. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

Survivors include a son, Donald R., and his wife Doris Denney, of Newport, N.C.; a daughter, Jean, and her husband, Chris Jaege,r of Grafton, Ohio; her sisters, Faye Weigan and Sue Wilson, both of Amhurst, Ohio; three grandchildren, Audrey and Christopher Denney, and Amanda West; and four great-grandchildren, Whitley and Wesley Key, Nealie West and Porter Rhoden.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by her sisters, Myrtle Petrey, Betty Johnson, Edna Plummer and Irene Bailey; and her brothers, Donald and Bill Bailey

The funeral services will be noon Thursday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Church of Christ Cemetery.

James Hobert Denny, 81, husband of Juanita Reynolds Denny, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.

Born March 16, 1932, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late James Peyton Denny and Liza Mullins Denny. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He retired in 1994 from Southern States with more than 30 years of service.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife of 58 Years, Juanita Reynolds Denny; a daughter, Peggy Jean Denny of Stanford, Ky.; a son, Clayton Dean (Connie) Denny of Danville, Ky.; two grandchildren, Chad (Rachel) Denny and Chris (Brittany) Denny, both of Lexington; three brothers, Leroy (Ila) Denny of West Chester, Ohio, Arthur Denny of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Elbert Ray (Brenda) of Crab Orchard; and two sisters, Lucille (Winfred) Muse of Lancaster and Rosetta Braley of Brodhead.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Denny; and two brothers, James Peyton Denny Jr. and Ronnie Wallace Denny.

The funeral will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Kyle Page. Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Chad and Chris Denny, John Zinner, Jack Caldwell, Braxton Gaither and Willie Petrey.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel.

Janet Ann Bono Dory, 80, of Crab Orchard, died May 11, peacefully, at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born March 3, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Janet was a daughter of the late Mary  Francis (Roma) and John Robert Bono. She was a retired certified nursing assistant. She was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include four children, Thomas F. (Venus) Roeller, Debbie (Jackie) Long, Ronald G. (Lisa) Roeller and Duane (Suzanne) Roeller; 10 grandchildren; an aunt,  Peggy Riley; a sister-in-law,  Anna Mae Bono; cousins, Charlie (Rosemarie) Randolph, Tony (Amy) Bono and Beverly (Richard) Shaffer. She was preceded in death by a son,  John Robert Roeller; husbands, Robert Roeller and Robert Dory; and four brothers, John, Donald, Alfred and Joseph Bono.

Private family memorial services will be held.

Betty Wilson Bray Dunn of Goshen Road, Stanford, KY died May 11, 2003 at Fort Logan Hospital. Born in

Pulaski County on Jan. 25, 1922, she is the daughter of John Lee Bray and Lina Alexander Bray.

Betty was a homemaker and former employee of the Palm Beach Co. and member of the Methodist church.

Married on August 3, 1957 to the late Charles Willard Dunn.

Survivors include one son, Charles William Dunn of Stanford, one daughter, Sylvia Dunn of Alexandra, VA.
Other survivors are one brother, Alfred Junior Bray of Daly City, CA., one sister Wilma Opal Bray Phelps of
Somerset, Ky., one granddaughter; Kathleen Bariola
She is preceded in death by a sister, Golda Helen Bray Taylor, and a brother, Ollie James Bray.

Eleanora and Ray were most recently of Ohio. Ray, husband of Eleanora, was born in Moreland. He was the son of the late Ray and Olga Mae Nicholson Durham. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
Ray is survived by three brothers, Sam and Russell (Betty), both of Moreland, and Horace "Rat" (Linda) of Butchertown; and two sisters, June (Buddie) Southerland of Butchertown and Dale Berns of Wake Forest, N.C. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John (Jaunita) and Nickie; and three sisters: Helen, ("Funny" Aaron) Mills, Betty Jane Maxey and Belle (Orris John of Louisville, survives) Disney.

Ruby Lee Bolin Ellis, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013.
Born on July 5, 1924 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Nannie Jones Bolin.
Mrs. Ellis was a teacher, retired from the Casey County school system and also taught in the Danville school system. She was a proof reader and secretary to several local businesses as well as having worked for Gibson Greeting and American Greeting Card Co.
She enjoyed making quilts as well as knitting and many other crafts. She was a member of the Junction City United Methodist Church where she was a secretary of her Sunday school class and the church pianist for several years.
Survivors include several nephews, Mitch (Lavina) Ellis of Danville, Don (Donna) Turpin of New Albany and Rex (Susan) Turpin of Wisconsin; a great-nephew, Tommy (Linda) Mills; and a sister-in-law, Joan Ellis. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Ellis, and one sister, Lillie Mae Bolin King.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hustonville Cemetery.

Irene Godbey Eoff, 100, formerly of Eubank, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Kindred Nursing & Rehailitation in Danville.

Born Sunday, Jan. 12, 1913, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob C. and Artie Durham Godbey. She was the widow of the late Chester Eoff, who preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1988.

Irene was a member of Eubank Church of Christ and attended Danville Church of Christ on Lexington Avenue for the past seven years. She was a homemaker and worked for five years as a teacher’s aide at Eubank Elementary. Irene was a member of Eubank Homemakers for more than 20 years and loved to quilt and sew in her spare time.

Irene leaves behind three daughters, Vonda Metcalf (George David) of Lexington, Artie Ann Jolly of Atlanta, Ga., and Linda Sue Dykes (Billy Banks) of Harrodsburg; a brother, Thomas L. Godbey of Mount Olive; four granddaughters, Pamela Metcalf Nolan (Chuck) of Florence, Susan Jolly (Benka Thimaiah) of Atlanta, Ga., Sheila Mullen (Robert) of Huntsville, Ala., and Sherri Lentz (Jeff) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William Warner, John T., and Jefferson Godbey; and a sister, Anna Sims.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Scott Vifquain and Dale Robins officiating the service. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Edith H. Griffin, age 68, of Huron Township, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Henry Ford Hospital in Wyandotte, Michigan.

Friends may visit in the Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, Flat Rock Chapel on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Rev. James Williams of the Church of God, Flat Rock will officiate the service. Cremation is to follow.

Born on November 27, 1944 in Trenton, Michigan, she was the daughter of Walter and Edith (Knaf) Nielsen. On August 24, 1961 she married Arthur Ray Griffin in Flat Rock, MI. They celebrated their 51st anniversary this year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Vicki Lynn Griffin and brother, Bernard Nielsen.

Edith is survived by her husband, Arthur Ray Griffin Sr. of Huron Township; 5 children, Tina Marie (Ted) Hall of Betsy Layne, KY, Arthur (Sherri) Griffin Jr. of Crab Orchard, KY, Kerri Ann (Mark) Jobson of Fenton, Amie Jo (Bryan Blake) Griffin of Sunbury, PA, Jo Lynn Ann Marie (Tonya Barber) Griffin of Monroe; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, David Nielsen of AL, Don Nielsen of New Boston and Ernie Nielsen of Romulus, sister, Judy Noland of Monroe.

Madge Barnett Bailey Harlow, 85 of Danville went home to be with the Lord on June 14, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born August 5, 1927 in Logan, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Mary Copher Barnett and Lester Campbell. She was the widow of Earl Bailey and Allen Harlow. She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Bailey and three stepsons: Bobby, Jimmy and Johnny Harlow.

Survivors include one son, Ferrell (Jeanie) Bailey of Danville; two grandchildren: Charles (Amy) Bailey of Bowling Green and Angela (Ken) Kik of Danville; one step-grandchild, Lori (Chris ) Hughes of Stanford; two great grandsons: Christopher and Cameron Davis; one great granddaughter, Kayla Renner; seven step great grandchildren: Zachary Franklin, Angel (Greg) Miller, Jaqualyn and Chestan Baker, Aaron and Matthew Kik and Aly Hughes; one step great-great granddaughter, Tori Miller.

Madge was a former employee at ABC Grill, Certified Brake, and until May of 2012, at the Boyle County Detention Center. She loved Gospel and Bluegrass Music, cooking, yard sales and embroidery. She attended Hope In Jesus Tabernacle in Hustonville.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 18 at 7 pm at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland, with Rev. Jeanie Bailey and Rev. Anna Byrd officiating. Visitation after 5pm, Tues.

Honorary pallbearers are Officers: Bobby Joe Potts, Danny Sallee, Brad Baker, Todd Adams, Sandy Wells, Sandy Stephens, Melissa Jones, Carol Caldwell and all remaining officers at the Boyle County Detention Center.

Anna A. Heineken, 96, Valley Falls, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at a nursing home in Nortonville.

She was born Aug. 31, 1902, in Crab Orchard, Ky., to Charles and Anna Turnbull Brown. She moved to Atchison County in 1910 and graduated from District No. 42 grade school.

She was a member of the Baptist Church in Valley Falls where she had been president of the Women's Missionary Society and a Sunday school teacher. After the church closed, she became a member of the United Methodist Church in Valley Falls and the Esther Circle at the church. She was a charter member of the Sunflower Home Demonstration Unit, a member of the Nicholonian Club and a former member of the U&I Club.

She married Ernest C. Heineken on Feb. 15, 1922, in Atchison. They lived on a farm northeast of Valley Falls many years until 1978 when they moved into Valley Falls. He died March 2, 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Koons, Valley Falls; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a great-great- granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Valley Falls.

Burial will be in Nortonville Cemetery.

Relatives and friends will meet after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, 410 Frazier, Valley Falls, 66088. Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Hensley Sr., 65 years of age, of Somerset, Kentucky departed this life on Thursday, January 27th, 2011 at his residence.

He was born on February 24th, 1945 in Stanford, Kentucky to Nancy Hoskins McAninch and the late Benny Hensley. He served in the United States Navy, was a musician, and of the Baptist faith.

Wayne was survived by his mother and stepfather Nancy (and Carnell) McAninch of Somerset, Kentucky; one son, Wayne (and wife, Beth Ann) Hensley of London, Kentucky; one daughter, Misty Craft of London, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Ciarra Hensley, Kayne Hensley, Jacklyne Craft, and Blake Craft; two brothers, Ben (and wife, Francis) Hensley of Somerset, Kentucky and George (and wife, Shelia) Hensley of Burgin, Kentucky; one sister, Alice (and husband, Phil) Clark of Danville, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Kay Hensley of Stanford, Kentucky and Linda Hensley of Somerset, Kentucky; and friend and caregiver, Lige Stearns of Somerset, Kentucky.

Along with his father, Benny Hensley, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Phil Hensley and Mark Hensley.

Visitations were held on Sunday, January 30th, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 30th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Sutton officiating.

Burial followed in the Peck Cemetery in Lincoln County, Kentucky.

Billie Joe Howell, 79, of Stanford, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born Jan. 17, 1934, in Pocahontas, Tenn., he was a son of the late William and Jessie Matlock Howell.

He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War, a past member of Union 181 of Lexington, Ky., a member of American Legion Post 18, was the former owner and operator of H&G Backhoe Service, and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brenda Tillett Howell; four sons, Bobby J. Howell of St. Amant, La., Larry D. Howell (Joyce) of Gonzales, La., Billy J. Howell Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Wayne Greer (Penny) of Stanford; four daughters; Janie Ebeling (Johnny) of Killian, La., Sue Pendarvis of Lake Martin, La., Jackie Leto (Mark) of Gonzales, La., and Tammy Lane (Mitch) of Stanford; two brothers, John D. Howell (Carolyn) and Junior Howell (Linda) both of Selmer, Tenn.; three sisters, Juanita Quartors (Virgil) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Doris Mullens (Joe Billy) and Wanda Smith (David) both of Selmer, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Peggy and Charlotte Howell, both of Selmer, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert and Willard Howell.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary King and Jeremy Pope officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jessie Pauline N. Leece, 90 of Piqua, died on Monday, August 11, 2003 at 9:50 am in Heartland of Piqua Nursing Home. She was born in Stanford, Kentucky on March 5, 1913 to the late A. V. and Ann Parks Noland. She married Alfred G. Leece on September 28, 1940 in Kentucky; he preceded her in death on September 20, 1973.

Survivors include a son Larry P. Leece of Piqua, two grandchildren Brian Leece and Jill Schneider, and three great grandchildren Olivia Leece, Luke Schneider, and Jacob Schneider. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Leece graduated from high school and attended a business college in Kentucky. She retired in 1985 from the former Allen-A Company of Piqua. She was a member of Greene Street United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 10:00 am in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. James R. Christy officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Effie Lissal, 81, of Crab Orchard KY, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. She was born to the late George ,and Lora Smith Morgan. Effie worked on the farm most of her life, and was a Home Health Caretaker for many years. She was a member of Greater life Church in Harrodsburg KY.

Also surviving a son Anthony Michael Lissal of Ohio, three daughters Wanda Campbell of Crab Orchard, Marilynn Lewis of Waynesburg, Sandra Meade(Jack) of Crab Orchard; four brothers Calvin Morgan (Pauline), Paul Morgan(Jean), Dallas Morgan, all of Crab Orchard, and Jerry Morgan(Angel) of Lancaster. Four Sisters Juanita Adams of Lancaster, Ann Tuggle(Gilbert) of Lancaster, Barbara Stinnett of Harrodsburg, and Helen Tuggle (Robbie) of Lancaster.

Also surviving thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Along with her parents Effie is preceded in death by three sons, Alonzo Saylor, Barry Saylor, and Andrew Steven Lissal. Two daughters Sharlene Powell, Doris Callahan, and two brothers Michael Wayne Morgan, and Junior Morgan.

Barbara Sue Saylor Lunsford, 75, of Crab Orchard, passed away Friday, May 31, at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. She was the wife of Melvin Lunsford.

Born Sept. 13, 1937, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Reed and Gertrude "Gert" Hopkins Saylor. Barbara Sue had worked for many years as a caregiver and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church.

 

Survivors Include her husband of more than 50 years, Melvin Lunsford; two sons, Eddie Lunsford and  Jason (Lanetta) Lunsford; two daughters, Tracy Rice and Robin (Billy )Napier; 13 grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Brown, Missy (Chris) Cope, Casey Crommer, Chad Bennett, Keaton Lunsford, Louis Rice, Nikki Lunsford, Amber Napier, Will Napier, Jessica Lunsford, Courtney Parker, Harley Jones and Jayden Lunsford; and five great-grandchildren, Dalton Brown, Austin Cope, Drake Cope, Haven Lunsford and Graven Northern.

Barbara Sue was preceded in death by a son, Sandy Lunsford, and a brother, Earl “Sleepy” Saylor.

Adam Keith Maddox, 26, of Stanford, Ky., passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in Danville, Ky.

Born Feb. 7, 1987, in Danville, he was a son of Adam Troy and Rita Brown Maddox. He graduated from Lincoln County High School in 2005, attended Eastern Kentucky University and received his certification as a massage therapist from Lexington Healing Arts Academy.

He enjoyed softball and basketball, was a pitcher for the Hitmen Softball Team of the Danville Industrial League, was an avid UK basketball and Michigan football fan, and was a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Adam Troy and Rita Brown Maddox of Stanford; a sister, Samantha Zinkievich (Joshua) of Omaha, Neb.; several aunts and uncles; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles Leon and Bessie Shelton Brown, and his paternal grandparents, Lester and Lela Singleton Maddox.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at Stanford Baptist Church with the Rev. Max Hester, Greg Hancock and Andrew McGinnis officiating. Burial will be at Danville Memorial Gardens. Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford, is in charge of arrangements.

Somerset — Nancy Hensley McAninch, 85, of the Poplarville community of Pulaski County, departed this life on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at her residence.

She was born on January 30, 1926 in Bell County, Ky., to the late Crit and Emma Peck Hoskins.  Mrs. McAninch was a member of Green River Pentecostal Church of God. She was a homemaker. Mrs. McAninch was well-known for her hand sewn quilts. She enjoyed many other crafts, including bead works.  

She is survived by her husband, Carnell McAninch, whom she married on November 1, 1971 in Harrodsburg, Ky.; a son, George (and Sheila) Hensley of Burgin, Ky.; a daughter, Alice (and Phil) Clark of Danville, Ky.; three step-daughters; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Miller of Augusta, Ga. and Roberta Patterson of Highland, Mich.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, Bennie, Wayne, Phil and Mark Hensley, and a daughter, Nancy Sue Hensley.

Visitation for Mrs. McAninch will be held on today after 12 noon at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Ky. 80, Somerset, with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m.

Brother Steve Sutton will officiate.

Burial will be in the Double Springs Cemetery in Waynesburg, Ky.

Randy McGirr, 45 of Waynesburg lost his courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Born July 14, 1967, he was the son of Johnny McGirr of Holy Cross and Vivian Coffman McGirr of Moreland.

Randy was a member of the Bluegrass Horse Pulling Association and member of the New York State Horse Pulling Association and a thoroughbred race horse trainer. The horses were not only his job, but pure enjoyment in life for him. He competed in draft horse pulls, loved to ride horses with his family and coached girl’s basketball.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Stacey Dodge-McGirr; three daughters whom he loved dearly: Kyla, Kelsey and Kasey McGirr; one sister, Regina (Jerry) Naylor of Waynesburg; and mother and father-in-law, Buck and Betty Lou Dodge.

Services will be at 11 am, Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Rev. Rob Kernodle, Bro. Bobby Abbott and Bro. David Fralix.

Burial will be in Sandidge-McGirr Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Purvis, Shawn McCormick, Dean Heckathorn, Phillip Coffman, A.J. Simpson and Dave Estep. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Harp, Ricky King, Wayne Dodge, Daryl Russell, Keith Ledford, Odell Coley, Todd Kane and Steve Brenneman.

WAYNESBURG — James E. “Ed” Meade, 81, of Choctaw Trail in Stanford, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.

Born Sunday, March 27, 1932, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late John Henry and Ruth Calhoun Meade. His loving wife is Emma Wells Meade of Stanford, whom he married June 9, 1956.

Ed retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad and was a farmer. He was a member of Parlor Grove Baptist Church, a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran, a member of Waynesburg 328 F&AM, and a member of Oleika Shrine Temple. Ed loved U.K. Basketball and his K-9 companion, Abby.

In addition to his wife, Ed leaves behind two sons, Donald R. Meade (Gina) of Moreland and Ronald L. Meade of Somerset; two daughters, Sharon S. Meade McWhorter (Kim) of Hustonville and Debora A. Meade Lasure (Jeff) of Stanford; a brother, Charles Meade (Jo) of Washington state; three sisters, Wilma Politz of Mason, Ohio, Alma Bruner of Waynesburg and Yvonne Pruitt (Scotty) of Columbus, Ind.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a grandchild due in July 2013.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Meade; a sister, Linda Meade; and a granddaughter, Haley Michelle Lasure.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Mullins officiating the service. Burial will follow in Parlor Grove Cemetery, with full military rites performed by Caswell-Saufley Post No. 18 of the American Legion.

CRAB ORCHARD — Faith Tonia Means, 37, of Stanford, passed away Monday, June 24, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 10, 1975, in Garrard County, Ky., she was the loving daughter of Donald and Patsy Ann Lamb Means of Stanford. She was a member of Danville Church of God.

Other survivors include a brother, Donald V. Means; a special niece, Andrea Grace Means; a special nephew, Donald V. “D.J.” Means Jr.; a special aunt, Helen Saylor; and several other special aunts and uncles. She leaves behind her loyal dog, Ginger Bell.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Danville Church of God officiated by Bro. Bryan Montgomery. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Cody DeWane Mesaris, 16, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012.

He was born in Fayette County, Kentucky on November 15, 1996, son of Shelia McAninch Mesaris and the late Timothy Robert Mesaris. He was a sophomore at Lincoln County High School and worked for McAninch Dairy. He was a member of FFA and Eubank Church of Christ. Cody was an honor roll student, loved hunting, fishing, four wheeling, all sports and being outdoors.

 

He is survived by his mother, Shelia Mesaris of Waynesburg, sister, Rachel & (Chris) Pivonka of Nicholasville, KY, maternal grandparents, Janis and Gertrude McAninch of Waynesburg, paternal grandmother, June Mesaris of Princeton, KY, aunts and uncles, Janice and Larry McAninch, Tony Mesaris and Todd Mesaris.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy Robert Mesaris and paternal grandfather, Joseph Mesaris.

Visitation will be after 11 AM Monday, December 24, 2012 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Elva R. Meyers, 89, of Connersville, died Saturday morning, March 12, 2011, at Indiana University Health, Indianapolis.
Elva was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, February 10, 1922, to Christopher Columbus and Anna Saylor Hensley and moved to Connersville as a child with her family. On February 25, 1940, she was married in New Salem, Rush County, to Robert F. Meyers who died April 6, 1999. They resided in Glenwood for 22 years before moving to Connersville.

Elva was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. During the war, she was employed at REX Manufacturing and later worked for several years at Ford. Elva enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening and fishing.
Elva is survived by her son: Robert C. Meyers of Tamarac, Florida and his fiancé, Nancy Shoul and her daughter, Molly; a granddaughter: Rachel Meyers of Coral Springs, Florida; one great-granddaughter: Jordon Ashley Patton; three siblings: Rev. Kenneth Hensley of Mabank, Texas, Malissia Thomson of Washington state; Uyvonna Hayes and her husband, Amos of Bloomington; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Elva was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; an infant daughter: Maureen D. Meyers; four sisters: Myrtle Cheatham, Minnie O. White, Vivian Opal, Virginia Hubbell; three brothers: Ulysses, Quenton and Kermit Hensley.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, with Pastor John Reynolds of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. She was a former nurse for Charleston Healthcare in Danville, KY and was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years; William "Junebug" Moore of Stanford, KY, two sons; Timothy Marlow (Teresa) of Dalton, GA, and Lincoln Marlow of McKinney, KY, two daughters; Regina Moore (Billy Joe), and Teresa Bell both of McKinney, KY, six grandchildren; Logan Marlow, Jessica Stanley, Machala Bell, J.W. Viola Mae Brock Noakes, 92, of Crab Orchard, passed away Thursday, June 6, at her home. She was the widow of Richard Pruitt Noakes.

Born July 23, 1920, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Carl and Julie Anderson Brock. She was a member of Union Chapel Holiness Church.

Survivors include three sons, Jesse and John Noakes, both of Crab Orchard, and Jim Noakes of Eubank; a sister, Pearl Crank, of Harrison, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; several 
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Viola was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Noakes; a daughter, Shirley Simpson; her brothers, Ernest and C.W. Brock; and her sisters, Eula Todd and Nancy Crank.

Rocky Lee Phillips, 55, of Double-O-Lane in Stanford, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at his residence.

Born Friday, Aug. 16, 1957, in Stanford, he was a son of Roberta Lane Phillips of Stanford and the late Wheeler “OO” Phillips. His loving wife of 29 years is Paula Todd Phillips of Stanford.

Rocky was a general laborer and a collector of many things.

In addition to his wife and mother, Rocky leaves behind a daughter, Tabitha Nicole Phillips (Scott Elliott) of Stanford; two brothers, Jayme Phillips (Crystal) and Rodman Phillips, both of Stanford; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Fox Funeral Home with Jayme Phillips and Bro. Kerry Jones officiating the service. Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Born Nov. 18, 1915, in Richardson, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Dora and Mary McCurry Blanton. She was the widow of Raymond Putteet, a retired librarian and a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Putteet Williams (Ronald) of Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter-in-law, Mary Jean Putteet of Carrollton, Tex.; two sisters, Pauline Hacker of Fairfield, Ohio, and Betty Jacobs (Eullas) of Russell Springs; two grandchildren, Ronnie Ray Williams (Susan) of Tucson, Ariz., and Randall Williams (Diane) of Ocean Springs, Miss.; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Williams, Kandyce Williams and Sienna Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, R.B. Putteet; three brothers, Edward, John, and Charles Blanton; and two sisters, Myrtle Sanders and Linda Pearlman.

Lucille Roberts, 88 years of Hillsboro, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Heartland of Hillsboro.

She was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky on April 18, 1924, the daughter of the late Everett G. and Locie (Brown) Scott. Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Oris Roberts on February 19, 1996; one son, Jerry Wayne Roberts; one granddaughter, Missy Adkins; two brothers, Amos Scott and Kenneth Scott.

Lucille was a member at Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church, worked at Burger Chef in Evandale for several years and retired from Standard Textile.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathy (Rick) White of Sardinia, one sister, Sally R. Wilson of Fairfield, four grandchildren, Jeff (Kim) Roberts, Steve (Karly) White, Karrie (Joe) Hames, Jerry "JT" Roberts and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M on Thursday March 14, 2013 at the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Lamb officiating. Graveside service will be held 2:30 P.M. Thursday at Rest Haven Memorial Park, 10209 Plainfield Road, Cincinnati, OH.

Born April 13, 1936, in Humphrey, she was a daughter of Delta Elliott Wall of Waynesburg and the late Cyrus Wall. She was the widow of James Salyers.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kathy Weddle; three sons, Anthony Salyers, James Salyers and Eric Salyers; a son-in-law, Herb Todd; eight grandchildren; five great- and two step-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Sherril, Glenn, Lee and J. C. Wall; and sisters, Nora Wall and Janet Foley.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Todd.

James Louis Simpson, Sr., 72, of Pittsboro, NC passed away at The Laurels, Saturday, August 25th, 2012. He was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, on November 12, 1939, to the late Jesse James Simpson and Dorothy Tapscott. A U.S. Marine through and through, Mr. Simpson honorably served his country in Korea and was with the 1st Marine Corps Strike in Vietnam.

After the war, he attended Berkley and became a Master Mechanic & Welder. He is survived by his sons, James L. Simpson, Jr., of Jacksonville, FL., Johnny L. Simpson, Sr., of Gonzales, LA, & Jeffrey L. Simpson, also of Jacksonville, FL; his daughters, Joanna S. Guido, of Pittsboro, NC, Judith S. Carter, of Virginia Beach, VA, & Jacqueline S. Erbach, of Manhattan, KS; his grandchildren, James L. Simpson, III, David A. King, Amanda J. Simpson, Johnny L Simpson, Jr., Jennifer K. Erbach, Brittany S. Erbach, Sadie L. Simpson, Matthew P. Carter, James W. Erbach, & Hannah M. Simpson; and two great-grandchildren.

LINCOLN COUNTY - Judy C. Smith, age 51, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was born June 8, 1961 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky to the late Carroll and Pauline Jones Clements and was the wife of Brent C. Smith. Mrs. Smith was a member of Bagdad Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed cats, playing cards, listening to music, and riding motorcycles.

 She was a wonderful cook, a great friend, and met her husband, Brent, at a softball game when they were very young. They both continued to enjoy playing softball for many years. Judy and Brent were married for over 31 years and she is also survived by two sons, Phillip R. Smith of Louisville and Eric R. Smith of Lincoln County, a grandson Braylin C. Pennington, brothers, Gary Clements (Kathy) of Louisville, Dean Clements (Tammy) of Shelby County, a sister P.J. Whiddon (Mike) of Shelby County, and many nieces and nephews.

 In accordance with Judy's wishes, the family has chosen cremation with a Celebration of Life Service at 5PM Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Preston Pruitt Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11AM until the service time Saturday at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Norma Owens Stidham; a son, Clayton (Lynn Cox) Stidham of Hustonville; a daughter, Charlotte (Clifford) Miller of Wolfe County; a sister, Nora Couch; and a grandson, Brian Scott Miller.

Frankie Lee Thompson, 68, of Moreland, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013.  

Born May 2, 1945, he was a son of the late Lester Thompson and Marjorie E. Dalton Jenkins. He was a retired truck driver, and owner and manager of Thompson Service Centers. He was of the Baptist faith.

Frankie loved his children and grandchildren; his family was his life. He enjoyed dirt track racing and working at the garage. His favorite saying was “That’s how I roll!”

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Thompson, and a son, Billy King.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thompson; a daughter, Dana (Phillip) Simpson of Moreland; three sons, Gregory L. (Jessica) Thompson of Lincoln County, Larry (Claressa)
