Cecil Earl "Red" Allen, 79, of Camby, IN, died on November 6, 2011. Cecil was born to Charles Allen & Christine (Wilcher) Wheat on February 15, 1932 in Hustonville, KY. 
Cecil was a Korean Army Veteran. Cecil married Peggy (Laswell) Allen on March 31, 1956.

He lived in Indianapolis, IN most of his life and 17 years in his birthplace of Hustonville, KY. He retired from General Motors Truck & Bus Plant in 1988 after 31 years. 
He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church in Waynesburg, KY and former deacon at Gasburg Baptist Church. Cecil was Past Master of Monrovia 
Masonic Lodge #654. He enjoyed woodworking and also was a Civil War Enthusiast and avid baseball fan.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Peggy (Laswell) Allen of Camby, IN; 5 children, Gregory Allen of Indianapolis, IN, Jeffrey (Sue) Allen of Avon, IN, Michael (Sandy) 
Allen of Plainfield, IN, Lisa (Eric) Main of GA & David (Jackie) Allen of Noblesville, IN; 21 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, B.C. (Louvenia) 
Allen, Johnny (Paulette) Allen & Gary (Ann) Allen; 1 sister, Betty Tipton.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Allen & Christine (Wilcher) Wheat and 2 brothers, Kenneth & Harold Allen.

Calling will be from 4-8pm, Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Jones Family Mortuary and 4-8pm, Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Spurlin Funeral Home in 
Stanford, KY. There will be an 11am funeral service at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY on Friday, November 11, 2011. Cecil will be laid to rest in 
Highland Methodist Cemetery in Waynesburg, KY.

BALLARD, Roxie L. Johnson

Roxie Lee Ballard, 92 years young of Crab Orchard, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord " Our Savior" on Friday October 21, 2011. Roxie's family was by her side at the time.

Roxie was born to Capt. James Ralph Johnson and wife Adrus Brock on March 28,1919 in Lancaster, Kentucky. Capt. Johnson served many years in the armed forces and fought in the 
Civil War. In October 1925 Roxie lost her father at age 86 and her mother near death with typhoid fever. Capt. Johnson had prepared his children, Roxie the youngest at age 6, her brother 
Bumette and sister Zora to be raised in the Odd Fellows home in Lexington, Ky. Roxie's other sister, Cora Holmes was married at the time of her father's death. It was a wonderful place, 
Roxie says, to be raised without parents during the depression. At the young age of 16 Roxie left a note in the pocket of her apron saying, by the time this note is found she 
would be married to Coy B. Ballard.

Roxie and Coy went to the small farm of 145 acres that Coy owned and there they would raise their 9 children. Their oldest son, Wayland Ballard resides in Crab Orchard, Ky., 2nd child, 
Arla Jean Roberts (Earl) lives in Kansas City, Ks., 3rd son, Donald Ballard (Carol) lives in Jacksonville, Fla., 4th child, Kathleen Thorson (Tom) lives in Casper, 5th and 6th , a set of twins, 
Fay Losee ( Jack) lives in Jacksonville, Fla., Kay Ballard lives in Mesa, Az., Roxie's 7th and 8th children, a second set of twins, Gary Ballard (Linda) lives on the family farm in Crab Orchard, 
Ky. Larry Ballard died two days after birth. Ralph Ballard, the 9th and last child being a very special one who has Down's Syndrome and cannot talk, lives in Casper, WY in wonderful 
group home and has since 2007.

Roxie's husband. Coy, passed away in 1981. Roxie and Ralph remained on the farm with son Gary and wife Linda. Roxie cared for Ralph over 50 years and was such a loving and 
caring mother to him. In 1995 Kathleen wanted her mom to be close and moved her and Ralph to Casper.

Roxie will be missed by her 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Roxie always felt she had a very rewarding, healthy, and rewarding life even though her work was always piled high. 
She was raising her 8 children, an acre of garden, canning all the food, washing the clothes, and milking 30 cows twice a day. She loved her cows and named each one of them.

A special gathering with Roxie's family will take place Wed. Oct. 26, 2011 at Bustard's funeral home to honor and celebrate Roxie's life and her special being in their lives.

BLACKABY, William "Bill" 82, of Centerville, OH passed away unexpectedly Tuesday September 27, 2011. Bill was born in Lincoln County, KY of parents, 
Silas and Mary Blackaby and was the tenth of fifteen children.

He worked for many years in the area as a master carpenter. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanette; daughters, Shirley (Jim) Pugh of Beavercreek, OH and 
Pamela Blackaby of Riverside, OH; granddaughters, Anita Brown and Stacey (Ben) Hastings; six great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Kelsey, Willow, Rosemary, Naomi, and Theo; three sisters and one brother.

Visitation is Saturday October 1, 2011 from 10am to 11am with funeral service starting at 11am at the Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel), Kettering, OH. Burial is in Bellbrook Cemetery.

C.W. Brock, 81 husband of Gladys Lancaster Wren Brock, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital. He was born July 7, 1930 in 
Lincoln County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Carl Waggoner Brock, Sr. and Julia Ann Anderson Brock. He was a retired farmer. He truly loved and cared for his entire family.

Survivors include; his wife  Gladys Brock, four children; Charlotte (Ernie) Bowling, Gary Joe (Regina) Wren, Velma (David) Shelton, and Melissa Charlene Brock. 
Two sisters survive; Viola Noakes & Pearl Crank, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren & 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; his son, Charles Wayne Wren, two brothers, Raymond C. & Ernest Brock, two sisters, Eula Todd & Nancy Crank.

Services at 1PM, Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Crab Orchard Pentecostal Church. Officiating services are Ministers; Bro. Walter Bowling & Bro. Donald King.

Pallbearers include; James, Terry & Mason Bowling, Shane & Gary Wren & Billy McMahan.

TECUMSEH, Mich. — Rozella B. Carney, age 88, of Tecumseh passed away Sept. 28, 2011.

She was born Nov. 6, 1922, in Lincoln County, Ky., the daughter of Alva and Florence (Wall) Morgan. Rozella was the last survivor of eight children. On Jan. 4, 1946, 
she married Arthur Carney, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1990.

Rozella is survived by a daughter, Valerie (William) Bartenslager of Britton, MI; son, Lindsey (Jennifer) Carney of Tecumseh; five grandchildren, Robb Bartenslager, Angi Ross, 
Amber Bowser, Ashley Carney, and Tom Carney; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Rich Burstall officiating. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home.

Mrs. J. S. Carpenter

A gentle loving spirit left its frail body when that of Mrs. Mattie Carpenter took its Flight to the house of many mansions. We who have known and 
loved her and have see her in all the different phases of life, sorrowfully realize our loss, but mingled with this feeling is one of joy for that she has gained.

As a girl her lovely character drew around her a host of friends and there are many who will never forget the happy hours spent in her father's hospitable home at "Peyton's Well."

Her married life was quiet and retiring and it was in her home that the fine qualities of mind and heart were developed.

One beautiful characteristic of her life was her steadfast and devoted friendship - how loyal she was to those whom she loved and how freely she gave them her heart's purest affection.

Husband and children mourn the loss of a faithful wife and tender mother and very precious will be her memory to the relatives and friends who loved her so well.

Jesse C. Carter, 55, of Stanford Rt. 4, died September 19, 1975 at Fort Logan Hospital here after illness of 10 months.

The Casey County native was a farmer, member of Hustonville Christian Church veteran of World War II. He was the husband of Mrs. Rose Carter of Stanford Rt. 4, and 
was a son of the late Marshall and Leal Wade Carter.

Beside his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Estes of Lexington and Mrs. Nona S. Dawson of Louisville; two sisters, Mrs. August Felstritzer of Danville 
and Mrs. Herman Alman of Charlotte, Va.; a brother, Cleo Carter of Danville, and a grandson.

Rites will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Morgan and Fox Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Livesay with burial in Hustonville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Dr. Bradford Curry, 92, of Stanford died Friday, November 25, 2011 at the University of KY Medical Center in Lexington, KY. He was born January 6, 1919 in Uptonville, 
TN to the late Dr. John Milton and Mary Pentecost Curry. He was the widower of Catherine Rigsby Curry to whom he married June 22, 1944. He was a Southern Baptist Minister. 
Dr. Curry received his bachelor's degree from the Unicom University in Jackson, TN and received his Master of Theology/Doctor of Philosophy from the Southern Baptist Theological 
Seminary in Louisville, KY. He has pastored churches in Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas and Florida, during his pastoral career. He was a member of the Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include two Nephews, John B. Hester of Hustonville and Charles Lewis Hester of ??? A great-Niece, a great-nephew, a great-great niece and a great-great nephew. He was 
preceded in death by three brothers.

Funeral service will be at Stanford Baptist Church. Dr, Greg Earwood will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Stuart Underwood, Otis Cave, Odel Kirkpatrick, Jay Burton, Paul Long and Joe Hafley; Honorary bearers will be the Stanford Baptist Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

Mr. James Lee DeBord, age 95, of Bonifay, passed away October 30, 2011 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City.

He was born June 29, 1916 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, to the late Charles DeBord and Forna Brumitt DeBord.

He is preceded in death by his wives, Elva L. DeBord Seals, Jewel DeBord and Betty Brown DeBord; two daughters, Sandra Lee Feix and Irene Lynn DeBord; two grandson; five brothers, 
Henry C. DeBord, Clarence DeBord, Ottis DeBord, Ethraim DeBord, Edward DeBord.

Mr. DeBord is survived by three daughters, Bonnie L. Taulbee and husband Robert of West Alexandria, OH, JoAnn Foxworth and husband Harvey of Bonifay, Martha Frances Simpson of 
Stanford, KY; two sons, Charles E. DeBord and wife Lucy of Charlotte, NC, Donald DeBord of Greenville, SC; one step-son, Garland Brown and wife Nelda of Scottsboro, AL; one sister, 
Christine Brown of Mt. Sterling, KY; 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

LOUISVILLE — Mae Nacibel Durham Disney, 71, of Louisville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at Kindred Hospital.

Born in Moreland, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Olga Mae Durham. She was a retired title clerk for Bob Hook Chevrolet.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.

Left behind to cherish her memories are her husband of 53 years, Orris Disney; her son, Orris (Tracy) Disney II; her daughter, Carolyn (Steve) Cowling; two sisters, Dale 
Burns and June (Buddy) Southerland; and three brothers, Horace (Linda) Durham, Sam Durham and “Wimp” (Betty Jane) Durham.

The family has chosen to honor Mae’s wish for cremation with a private memorial service to follow at a later date.

CRAB ORCHARD — Linda Saylor Dowell, 63, widow of Gary Dowell, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at home.

Linda was born Dec. 1, 1947, in Lincoln County. She was the daughter of the late Jackson and Blanche Hopkins Saylor. She was a homemaker and a member of 
Oak Grove Church of Christ.

Survivors Include four children, Darrell Dowell, Dale and his wife Leslie Dowell, Letha and her husband Charles Isaacs, and Tammy Dowell; six grandchildren; 
and a brother, Ralph Truman Saylor.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Stevens and Lillie Parker, and six brothers, Fred, Jackie, Walter, J.D., Ted and Tommy Saylor.

CRAB ORCHARD — Ella Mae Baker Edwards, 95, of Crab Orchard, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at her home. She was the widow of Jim Edwards, 
who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1999.

Born Nov. 24, 1915, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Josie (Wilson) and James Baker. She was a retired cook, having the joy of serving many school 
children at both Lincoln County High School and Crab Orchard Elementary School. She was a member of Turkeytown Baptist Church until it burned and then became a member of 
Watts Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for several years. She was a member of Crab Orchard Red Hat Society.

Survivors Include a daughter, Brenda and her husband Dick LaFevers; two granddaughters, Lisa Cooper and Debbie Reich; four great-grandchildren, Deedee, Geoffrey, 
Abby and Nelson Jr.; three great-great-grandchildren, Zachary, Samantha and Tucker; and a very special senior companion, Linda Bryant.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by twin sons, Danny Dale and Jimmy Lee Edwards; three sisters, Rose Evelyn Holman, Buelah Bee Ball and Sue 
Beth Gourley; five brothers, Harold, Richard, Frank, Clayton and Ishmael Baker.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at Watts Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Gutenson and Bro. Ralph Baker. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at McKnight Funeral Home and after 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at Watts Chapel Baptist Church.

She was an active member for over 50 years at Fellowship Baptist Church, serving as an usher and choir member.

Mae is survived by her loving family: husband ,Claud "Jack" Gant; daughters, Robin (Larry) Blythe of Jacksonville, FL and Cathy Dunning and Tana Gant, both of Medina; 
her sisters, Christine (George) Reid of Stanford, KY and Anne Sleet of Perryville, KY; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mae was preceded in death by her son, Robert Dunning, Jr.; daughter Jackie R. Dunning; parents; and her brothers John and Morris Ross, Jr.

STANFORD — Connie Davis Hale, 51, of Stanford, died Tuesday.

Born Aug. 3, 1960, in Danville, she was the daughter of Lincoln Davis of Stanford and the late Doris Land Davis. She was a former employee of Wal~Mart of Danville and 
attended Calvary Hill Baptist Church. She was known for being an avid genealogist.

Other survivors include her sisters, Barbara Terry of Stanford and Shanna Peck of Danville; and nieces and nephews.

Connie was preceded in death by two infants, Tristen Davis and Jillian Starr.

Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Fox Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LONGVIEW – Wallace Harris, 86, of Longview died at 12 p.m. Friday (Oct. 14, 2011) at his home in Longview.

A private funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Joines Funeral Home, Illinois Route 130 South, Villa Grove. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct.17, 
at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sidney.

Mr. Harris was born April 10, 1925, in Stanford, Ky., a son of Melvin and Katie (Lynch) Harris. He married Emma Spears. She died Feb. 17, 2003.

Surviving are two sons, Clarence Harris of Champaign and Bob Harris of Jacksonville, Fla., three daughters, Barb Winchester of St. Joseph, Lisa Redden of St. Joseph and 
Julitta Allen of Longview; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Pauline Fossitt of Independence, Ky., Anna Cooper of Independence, Ky., 
and Alice Bonti of Danville, Ky. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Joyce Spurlock; one granddaughter; four brothers; and four sisters.

Mr. Harris worked for several farmers in the area. He worked for Roger Todd Plumbing in Sidell. He loved to go fishing and he loved to teach his grandchildren to 
whittle. Memorials can be made to an organization of the donor's choice.

Alma Bradley Henderson, 94, of Stanford died Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Stanford. She was born February 28, 1917 in Pulaski County to the late 
General Burton and Dora Hubble Burton. She was the widow of Roy Henderson. Alma had worked in the meat department of the Stanford IGA store, had been a waitress in the hotel in 
Stanford and had been a babysitter for several years. She was a member of the Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include three children, Helen Hafner (Ted) of Maumee, OH, John R. Bradley, Jr. of Duluth, MN and Ronald H. Bradley of Mt. Sterling, KY; seven step children, William Roy 
Henderson, Jr. (Hilda) of Vell, FL, Sandra H. Cope of Springfield, TN, Porter Henderson (Mary) of Cedar Hill, TN, Jimmy Henderson (Than) of Del Valle, TX, Joyce H. Smith of 
Lewisburg, TN, David Henderson of Atlanta, GA and Michael Henderson of LaVergne, TN; a brother, Albert Burton of Walnut Grove, KY and a sister, Cellia Mize Barnd of 
Greenwood, IN; four grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; 40 Step Grandchildren, 85 Step Great-Grandchildren, 39 Step Great-Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Great Grandchildren; 
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four Step children, Harold and Kenneth Henderson, Molly Jo Vance and Irma Jean Henderson.

Dr. Josiah Hoskins, died peacefully at home in Crab Orchard, Kentucky at the age of 87. He was born June 18, 1924 in Loyall, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Josiah 
and Verda Howard Hoskins. He was a man of strong Christian faith who often quoted Proverbs Ch. 9 Vs. 10. Dr. Hoskins was the husband of Netha Collier Hoskins whom 
he married August, 6, 1949 and enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. Dr. Hoskins was a 1940 graduate of Crab Orchard High School where he was recognized as a 
Distinguished Alumnus on June 14, 2003. Dr. Hoskins received his B.S., M.S. and Ph. D from the University of Kentucky. He was employed by the U.K. College of 
Agriculture for 10 years and the University of Georgia for 28 years. He had a love affair with the farmers in the state of Kentucky and Georgia. As he traveled all over the states, 
his many honors included extension awards from the University Alumni Association, Alpha Zeta Outstanding Extension Award, Honorary 4 H Club Member. Many 4 H students 
would seek  his guidance even after retirement. Dr. Hoskins left a legacy of service innovation and dedication to the agricultural community of Georgia and Kentucky. He served as a Elder 
of both the Crab Orchard Christian Church and Athens Friendship Christian Church in Athens, Georgia.

Survivors include; his beloved wife of 62 years, Netha Collier Hoskins, son, Josiah Collier Hoskins and wife Kimberly of Austin, Texas,  a daughter, Patience Hoskins of Lexington, KY, 
one grandchild, sister, Geraldine & husband Bill Ed Leedy of Stanford and a host of nieces, nephews & cousins survive.

Preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Day.

He was a native of Lincoln County, Ky., son of the late William Henry and Jerusha Jane Noe, Hubbard husband of the late Zola Anderson Hubbard, retired Baptist minister, pastored 
churches in Kentucky and Tennessee, member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, Men's Adult 3 Sunday School class.

James Madison Hurt, Sr., 87 of Junction City died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011. Born Jan. 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Charlie Dennis and Emily Grace Smith Hurt.

He was a World War II, US Army veteran. He worked for Corning Glass and Phillips Lighting from 1952-1988. He loved his church and church family at Junction City United 
Methodist. He loved to travel and camped until his health failed. He enjoyed making wood crafts.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Dale Turpin. To this marriage was born James M. (Gail) Hurt, Jr. of Junction City; Mark A. (Lecia) Hurt of Danville; and Evelyn Faith (Mark) 
Grigsby of Stanford. He is also survived by 2 children, Joyce (Ben) Vest of Danville and Glen (Pat) Hurt of Edmonton; 2 brothers: Ivan Hurt of Lexington and Elbert (Betty) Hurt of Tucson, 
Arizona; 9 grandchildren: Jordan (Jessica), Adam and Alex Grigsby, Elizabeth Keeley, Holly Hurt, Joseph Hurt, Jason Hurt, Scott Vest and Dawn Semones; and 7 great grandchildren.

 He is also survived by brother and sisters-in-laws: Bobby G. Turpin of Crab Orchard, A. David Turpin of Martinsville, IN, Margie Lawson of Cincinnati, OH, Elsie Hair of Junction

Born Sept.15, 1954, in Auburn, Ky., he was a son of Edna Zachary Lake of Crab Orchard and the late Scott Lake. He was a former employee of Short Cut Wood 
Products and attended the Ark of Mercy Church of God in Winchester.

Lucille F. Leigh, 91, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away at Coshocton Co. Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 13, 2011. She was born in McKinney, Kentucky, on September 4, 1920, 
the daughter of the late Dewey and Olga (Tipton) Timberlake.

Lucille graduated from Moreland High School in Moreland, Kentucky in 1938, and married Herbert Leigh that same year, on April 29, 1938. He was the love of her life, and preceded 
her in death in 1966. She was first employed at Kresge’s Department Store in Akron, Ohio, they moved to Coshocton, Ohio, where she worked at Miller’s Drug Store, and then was 
employed for over 25 years at Davis Cleaners in Coshocton as a counter clerk, retiring in 1985. Following retirement, she liked to travel many places, including Hawaii, and four trips to 
Europe. In her spare time, Lucille enjoyed embroidery work and was an avid quilt maker. She hand-made 75 heirloom quilts and other needle work items for family and friends.

 Lucille was a member of the Chestnut Street Church of Christ in Coshocton, Ohio, for over 49 years, a member of the Pink Ladies Aux. of the Coshocton Co. Memorial Hospital, the 
VFW 2040 Aux., Women of the Moose Aux 357, and Am. Vets 36 Aux.

Lucille is survived by her children, James (Hannelore) Leigh of Germany, Patricia (Jerry) Maddox of Florida, Gene (Alletta) Leigh of Coshocton, Ohio, and Ruth (David) Bush of Coshocton, 
Ohio, six grandchildren: Scott, Shelley, Todd, Teres, Zach, and Heather, five step grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. Lucille is also survived by her sister, 
Christine Ellis of Moreland, Kentucky, and brother, Virgil (Mary) Timberlake of Kentucky. A visitation is going to be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, from 6 to 8pm at Given-Dawson

MORELAND — Ramona Rhoberta Coffman Mullins, of Danville, entered into eternal life on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011.

Ramona was born on Friday, Nov. 13, 1931, in Casey County. She was the beloved daughter of the late Lewis and Bertie Mae Ellis Coffman and beloved granddaughter 
of the late Hardin and Elizabeth Brown Ellis and Sam and Tommie Watson Coffman.

Ramona was a devoted mother to her daughter, Ellis, and son, Gerald Clelland “Buddy,” both of whom survive. She also is survived by an aunt, Maxine Coffman Riley of 
Louisville, and many Coffman and Ellis first cousins. She also is survived by her poodles, Pierre and Midnight.

Ramona became a Christian at the age of 9 years and joined The Rocky Ford Baptist Church in Casey County, where she taught Sunday school for many years prior to 
moving to Danville in 1976. She was a member of Calvary Baptist in Danville.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Ernest L. Martin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland, with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Born to the late Coleman and Emily Lacy Elliott in Owingsville, Ky., she was the widow of the Rev. A.R. Robertson II.

Cogie retired from Lincoln County National Bank and was a member and deacon emeritus at Stanford Christian Church.

She leaves behind her daughters, Emily Madigan of Jacksonville, Fla., and Martha Francis of Stanford; five grandchildren, Ellen Gibson, Lt. Col. Golda Eldridge Jr., Elizabeth Bartlett, 
Deborah Bird and Maj. David Francis; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Cogie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, John Haden Elliott.

Services will be noon Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Stanford Christian Church with the Rev. James C. Baughman and the Rev. Gregory Russell officiating. Burial will be in 
Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at Stanford Christian Church.

Pallbearers will be Golda Eldridge Jr., David Horseman Jr., Kelly Horseman, Alfred Pence Jr., W. Henry Baughman Jr., H.R. Saufley III, and David Bird.

STANFORD — John W. Sallee III, 48, of Stanford, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011.

Born Feb. 7, 1963, in Danville, Ky., he was the son of Jo Belle and John W. Sallee Jr. He was a registered nurse at the Veterans Hospital in Lexington, Ky., for the past six years and 
MRSA control coordinator for the hospital. John was a disabled veteran having served for six years in the Army, 82nd Airborne Division and was deployed to Honduras during 
his active duty. He was a member of the New Beginnings United Methodist Church. John was very active in his children's lives, coaching soccer, baseball and basketball for the 
Lincoln County Recreation League. He loved his family dearly.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Terri D. Sallee of Stanford; his children, Emily Grace Sallee and John W. Sallee IV; his parents, Jo Belle and John W. Sallee Jr. 
of Stanford; a sister, Pamela R. Sallee of Stanford; and a nephew, James Jackson of Athens, Ga.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. today, Nov. 15, 2011, at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Beck officiating. Caswell Saufley Post No. 18 and the Army 
Honor Guard from Fort Knox will provide military rites.

CRAB ORCHARD - Virginia Lester Shaw, 95, went to her eternal home in heaven on Nov. 3, 2011.

She was born to the late E.C. and Emily Lester on Oct. 22, 1916. After her mother's passing at an early age, she was raised by her father and step-mother, Mary Ellen Vaught Lester. 
She was married to the late Harold Shaw in 1946 and they lived in Crab Orchard, Ky. She relocated to her daughter's home in Odenville, Ala. in 2007.

She is survived by daughter Ellen (Don) Olvey of Odenville, Ala; granddaughters Emily (Jim) Cazola and Katie (Carey) Tuck; great-grandchildren Caleb, Dawson and Eli Cazola, 
and Shaw and Abbey Grace Tuck, all of Mount Olive, Ala; sister-in-law Louise (Thomas) Coulter of Nashville, Tenn. and several beloved nieces and nephews. Special thanks to 
her precious caregivers, Peggy Yocum, Glenda Whitcomb and Mary Mabry.

 Virginia Shaw was a lifetime educator in Lincoln and Boyle counties. Having taught at Junction City, Stanford High School and Lincoln County High School, she was an outstanding 
and well-respected leader both in the classroom and throughout the state of Kentucky. As a teacher her expertise was in Latin and English. At Stanford High School, she was Senior 
Class Sponsor and while teaching at Lincoln High School she served as chairperson of the Language Arts Department and Senior Sponsor. She was always passionate about making 
a difference in the lives of her students.

Her leadership abilities were recognized as she served in many educational organizations, such as president of Lincoln County Teachers Association, president of KEA, and Delta Kappa 
Gamma. Following her retirement she remained active in education. She was a diligent worker, always striving to improve educational opportunities for students. She served on the 
Lincoln County School Board, and served as president of Lincoln Co. Retired Teachers Assoc., and Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. She traveled throughout the state of 
Kentucky stressing the need for education and emphasizing the importance of life-long learning. She also remained active in numerous civic organizations in Lincoln County.

Virginia was an active member of Christian Church in Crab Orchard, Ky. She enjoyed serving her lord and her church by being pianist and organist, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer.

Virginia Shaw influenced many lives, not only as a classroom teacher, but as a teacher of strong Christian faith. She was her students’ mentor and confidant. To those who were 
fortunate to know Virginia Shaw, she was a wonderful friend who will always be loved and deeply missed.

Visitation will be held at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard, Ky. on Friday, November 11, 2011, from 4-8 p.m.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Crab Orchard Christian Church on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Calvin Mitchell Short, 84 of Hustonville, died Monday, November 28, 2011. Born August 28, 1927 on Carpenter’s Creek in Casey County, he was the husband of Patricia Vincent 
Short and the son of the late Jeff and Lillie Short. He attended the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.  

He served in the U.S. Army and was a lifelong farmer and member of the Hustonville Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and finding Indian rocks and old marbles in the fields. 
Calvin was the youngest of three children, preceded in death by his sister, Lyda S. Seay and his brother, James Hampton Short.  

 Survivors include a daughter, Deborah (Jack) Bosley of Danville, and two sons, Jefferson M. Short and Frederick V. (Brenda Gail) Short, both of Hustonville. He had 
three grandchildren, Nicole LeFevers, Patricia (Justin) Jarnagin and Lucas E. Short, and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Charlie Jarnagin.  

 Visitation is 10:00-11:30 am, Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home with service following at 11:30 am by Rev. Don Burton. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

SLONE, Lydia "Pearl" age 76, was granted her angel wings on June 27, 2011. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. 

She was born on May 20, 1935 in Hustonville, KY, to the late Thomas & Sarah Barlow. She was the youngest of 10 children, attended the Eastside Freewill Baptist Church for many years. 

Lydia truly loved the Lord. In spite of her health issues she volunteered two days a week at Elderly United. She was a very caring person and loved by many. Lydia is survived by 
her husband of 26 years Bob Slone, 5 children Larry Lawhorn, Bobby Joe Lawhorn, Alisa Bradshaw, Rhonda Grim and husband Glen, Dallas Wayne Gilley, 12 grandchildren, 
6 great grandchildren, a special step-daughter Joyce Nokes and husband Russell, 5 step-grandchildren, and a special nephew Johnny Wayne Barlow. 

Preceded in death by her 9 siblings, and a granddaughter Adina Raines. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Springfield Enterprise 
Baptist Church, 3501 South Urbana-Lisbon Rd., South Charleston. Rev. John Long officiating.

Entombment Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church. A special thank you to all the Hospice

Opal Brown Smiley, 78, of Lexington, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011.

Born Feb. 28, 1933, near Hustonville (Kidd’s Store), she was the daughter of the late Luther and Maggie Vaught Brown. She attended Hustonville High School where she 
graduated as salutatorian at age 16. Growing up, she worked with her father running Kidd’s Store, a general mercantile and post office. She attended Campbellsville College and 
Eastern. She worked as a secretary for state government and later for the federal government at the U.S. Army Depot. She lived in Madison, Wis., while her husband, Dr. Joe Smiley 
worked on his Ph.D. in Lexington. She served as president of the PTA at James Lane Allen Elementary. Opal was a member of Gardenside Christian Church.

She was a devoted wife who enjoyed traveling with her husband on his many tobacco-related trips, including a trip to Europe and South American. She was preceded in death by 
her husband of 50 years, Dr. Joe Smiley, and by a brother, David Brown.

Survivors include her son, David Jones Smiley of Lexington; five brothers, Elwood (Dixie) Brown of Moreland, Charles Brown, Ervin (Minnie) Brown and Hershel 
(Pat) Brown, all of Hustonville, and Michael (Lola) Brown of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Geneva Jeffries of Hustonville, Ruby (Tony) Sewell of Nicholasville and 
Brenda (J.W.) Pemberton of Danville.

SOMERSET — Margaret Faye Smith, 70, of Somerset departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Waynesburg to the late Johnnie and Mildred Hasty Falconberry. Ms. Smith was a homemaker, wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed 
cooking, visiting and spending time with family, working in her yard, and doing word search puzzles. She loved to help people in need. Ms. Smith was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Ms. Smith is survived by her son, Michael Smith of Somerset; a daughter, Sheila (and Morris) Washburn of Somerset; her grandchildren, Jeramie Wayne Baker of Somerset, 
Brandi Caudill Fitzgerald (and Chris) of Burnside, Brittany Lee Caudill of Lancaster, Austin Paul Smith of Somerset, and Lily Hope Price of Somerset; a great-grandchild, Camden Lee

HUSTONVILLE — Elzie Jenkins Stephenson, 89, of Hustonville, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011.

Born Feb. 14, 1922, in Kiln, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Josephine Jenkins. After completing high school, Elzie worked at a local jewelry store until she 
decided to serve her country by joining the Women’s Army Corp where she met her future husband, the late Max C. Stephenson.

After serving their tour of duty, Elzie and Max were married in November 1945. She was a member of Hustonville Christian Church and a retired postmistress in Hustonville.

Survivors include two brothers, Edward and Cleatus Jenkins, both of Louisiana.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Bob Shaw. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 18.

STANFORD — Ronald C. “Judge” Terry, 74, of Kings Mountain, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born on Tuesday, June 8, 1937, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Charles Cecil and Sabra Yocum Terry. He was married to Evelyn Jenkins Terry of Kings Mountain.

Ron served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1962.

He formerly was chief deputy for Lincoln County Jail for 11 years, a guard for Northpoint, a security guard for Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for 10 years, an employee 
of RC Cola for 12 years and worked at General Electric for 10 years.

He is known for being a collector of knives and an avid General Store listener. He was known as “Judge” to all his CB radio friends and loved computers.

Genealogy was his hobby. He was past master (1984) of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge No. 328 and a member of Pleasant Point Baptist Church. Ron spent his childhood and 
went to school in the Jumbo-McKinney area.

Ron leaves behind his wife, Evelyn Terry of Kings Mountain; daughters, Tina Marie Adams of Stanford and Brenda Terry of Lexington; a stepson, Kenneth Correll of Kings 
Mountain; a stepdaughter, Connie Waldroup of Stanford; brothers, Carlie Terry of Indianapolis, Kenneth Terry of Shelbyville and Larry Terry of Hustonville; 
14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Terry; a brother, Ray Terry; and a sister, Ruby Carpenter.

He was the husband of the late Jewell L. (Brown) Watson, who preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 2004.

Born June 4, 1918, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late William Russell and Quintella Smith Watson. He was a retired employee of the Bluegrass Army Depot and was a veteran of 
the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. Leslie was a member of Mount Zion Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Gene (Carolyn) Monel, Hershel Watson of Crab Orchard, and Daryl (Helen) Watson of Nicholasville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 
great-great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Larry Watson; three sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Mary Gentry and Mae Brown; and his brother, Samuel Orbin Watson.

Born Aug. 14, 1961, he was the son of the late Lewis Earl Whitis and Rozella Carrier Hafley. He was a bricklayer.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Whitis; two sons, Brian and Shelby Jordan of Gravel Switch; a daughter, Melody (Travis) Allen of Lebanon; a brother, Barry Whitis of Gravel Switch; two 
sisters, Patty Hafley and Kim Mills; and a granddaughter, Jada Allen.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Douglas; and brother, Bobby Whitis.

The service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home.

Brian Earl Wilson, 52 of Stanford died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011. Born May 30, 1959, he was the son of the late Earl Wilson and Gloria Franks Biggerstaff. He was a 
member of Fairview Baptist Church.

He is survived by his 2 sisters, Pamela J. Davidson of Whitley City and Julia Stringer of Burnside; 2 nieces; 2 nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A private

WRIGHT, Velma J. Moore

Velma Jean (Moore) Wright, 73, of Fort Wayne, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011. Born May 19, 1938, at the family farm in Lincoln County, Ky., she 
was the daughter of the late Herbert Elwood and Lucy Bell (Campbell) Moore. She graduated from McKinney High School and moved to Cincinnati Ohio to work as a long distance 
operator in 1956; where she met her future husband, Jackie D. Wright of New Castle, Ind.

They were married on March 22, 1957 in Cincinnati. Velma currently resided in Fort Wayne. She is survived by five siblings, Elizabeth Joann (Jerry Smith) of Hustonville, Ky., 
Lowell Thomas (Betty) and Harlow Wayne, both of McKinney, Ky., and Harold Dean (Thelma) of Stanford, Ky.; children, Jackie Lynn (Layne Christlieb) and Leslie Karen 
(Richard Miller); grandchildren, Samantha Nicole (Carl Doerfler) of Chicago, Ill., Nickolas D. (Tiffany) Sharin of Fort Wayne, Amanda Jean (Shawn Baney), Corporal Luke G.
  (Latrisha) Sharin U.S.M.C. of North Carolina, Joseph D. (Lindsay) Miller of Cygnet, Ohio, and Jacob T. (Whitney) Sharin of Fort Wayne; step-grandchildren, Shawn (Emily) 
Sharin of Fort Wayne, Shane Christlieb and Alyssa Christlieb, both of Churubusco. She was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren; 
13 nephews; and seven nieces.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Alonzo; sister-in-law, Jane Sears Moore; and great-grandchild, Henry Doerfler. "Velma enjoyed being surrounded by her family. 
She was known as 'Granny', 'Big Gran', and 'GG' to all her grandchildren and most of their friends. She possessed a loving heart and kind soul to all she met. She was a strong 
woman who suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis for over 45 years. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at Waynedale Baptist Church, 633 Lower Huntington Road, 
with viewing one hour prior. Calling also from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Ave. Burial at Prairie 
Grove Cemetery on Old Trail Road.

CRAB ORCHARD — John William “Bill” Zwahlen, 87, of Ottenheim died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Bill was the husband of Edith Harris Zwahlen, whom he married on March 5, 1953.

Born Aug. 12, 1924, in the Halls Gap Community of Waynesburg, he was a son of the late Samuel Zwahlen Jr. and Margaret Schlappi Zwahlen. Bill worked as a dairy farmer and was a 
veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Stanford..

Survivors Include his wife of 58 years, Edith Zwahlen of Ottenheim; two sons, William “Billy Ray” (Mary) of Richmond and Jerry Wayne (Susanne) of Ottenheim; a sister, Marie Stevens 
of Lancaster; a grandson, Joey (Liz) of Lexington; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Zwahlen (David) of Richmond; and great-grandson, Zachary Logan Allen Zwahlen.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Margaret Zwahlen, and three brothers, Frank, Alfred and Walter Zwahlen.

Pallbearers will include Joey Zwahlen, David Harris, Timothy and Matthew Sneed, Jim May and Dale Osterman.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at McKnight Funeral Home

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dan Gutenson and Bro. Gary King officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens 
with military rites by the Caswell Saufley American Legion Post 18 of Stanford.
