Baughman - Mrs. Harry C. Baughman who was Miss Georgia Barnes Wray, of this place died at her home near Hustonville at 11:30 last night of a complication of troubles. Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 tomorrow, Saturday afternoon, by Rev. G. W. Mills. Interment in Buffalo cemetery about 4. A more extended notice of this excellent woman will appear next issue.

Baughman: Death is always sad, but especially is it so when it comes to a young wife and mother who had so much to live for as did Mrs. Harry C. Baughman, whose soul took flight to the mansions above at 11:30 Thursday night, a mention of which appeared in our last issue. The illness of the splendid woman begun some three weeks ago and little did those who are now crushed by her death think it would prove fatal, but death loves a shining mark and He needed her in His Heavenly Home and called her hence. Conscious up to almost the very last, Mrs. Baughman made a noble fight against the grim reaper, frequently saying: " I must not die and leave my husband and children." How thoughtful, even in the very face of death, was this devoted wife and tender mother! May the rich reward she now receives assuage the grief of those who so reluctantly gave her up. Mrs. Baughman, who was Miss Georgia Barnes Wray, was born April 28, 1872 and is survived by a husband and two little ones, Earl and James, aged five and two, respectively. Her mother, Mrs. Mary Wray, is also left to mourn the loss of a loving, dutiful daughter, while the sisters and brother, who share deeply in the loss are, Mrs. I. M Bruce, Miss Nettie Wray and Mr. Homer C. Wray. When only 14 Mrs. Baughman united with the Presbyterian church and had since been an active member.
Funeral services were held at her late home near Hustonville by Rev G. W. Mills Saturday afternoon, after which the remains were brought here and laid away in Buffalo Cemetery. Several of her favorite songs were beautifully and feelingly sung by Mesdames J. G. Carpenter and A. G. Huffman and Rev. Gilbert Glass and Mr. W. H. Wearen, (as printed) Rev. Glass offered an appropriate prayer and then the snow white casket, which held all that was mortal of the Godly young woman, was hidden from view forever. An immense crowd attended the funeral services and flowers in profusion showed to some extent how she was loved and esteemed. May He who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb make provision for the motherless little boy and comfort the husband, mother, sisters and brother in their dark hour of sorrow.

in death by a daughter, Sherry Gwen Brock, a sister, Sudie Proffit, 5 brothers,

step-sisters, Opal Osbourne, Zella Underwood and Thelma Johns.

will be Wednesday from 5-9 pm at Spurlin Funeral Home, Services will be 11 am
Thursday at the Funeral Home with Audie Dale Brock and Troy Benge officiating.
Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Randal Ray Brown, 64, of Burnside, passed away Monday, February 14th, 2011 at
his residence. He was the husband of Jerriene Kay (Holman) Brown whom he married
on September 22, 2000. Ray was born in Lincoln County on October 5, 1946. He was
the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Viola Mae (Watson) Brown. He served as a
sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and worked as an Oil Well Serviceman for the
Halliburton Company in Houston, Texas. Ray was a member of the The Chapel
Christian church.
Survivors
Include: Wife, Jerriene "Jerri" Kay Brown of Burnside, KY, Sons;
Randall Scott Brown of Somerset, KY, Gary Dean (Tanya) Brown, of Science Hill,

Robert Walker “Sparky” Brown, 73, son of the late Leonard Ross and Mamie Brown, died Sunday.
He was a Navy veteran and retired from the state highway department.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Jean Brown of Stanford; two daughters, Barbara Lee (Donald) Faulkner of Harrisburg, Pa., and Angie (Walter) Smith of Danville; two sons, Keith Jerome (Donna) Brown of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Robin Lewis (Sue) Brown of Stanford; and five grandchildren.
Services will be noon Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church, Stanford.

Son of John Andrew and Catherine Buchanan, was born February 2, 1922 at Crab Orchard, KY and died June 27, 1998 at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, MO at the age of 76 years, four months and 25 days. Mr. Buchanan received his education in the schools of Crab Orchard, KY and continued his education in the military.
On August 2, 1944 he was married at Hopkinsville, KY to Faye Day. Mr. Buchanan served with the U.S. Army for twenty-four years beginning with World War II. After his retirement, he worked for the military at Fort Knox, KY, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 23 of West Plains. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and country music.
Survivors
include his wife, Faye Buchanan of West Plains; one daughter, Carol Keaton and
husband, Virgil, West Plains; one son, John Paul Buchanan, Jr. and wife,
Sherrill, West Plains; four grandchildren, Rebecca Brown and husband, Terry, and
their children, Savannah, Dakota, Ian and Eric; one brother, Billy Buchanan,
Columbia, SC; one sister, Ella Mae Siler, Stanford, KY; one brother-in-law,
Clifford Day, Sr., Brandsville; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Dixon and husband,
Paul, West Plains; and Ruby Jewell and husband, Ted, Thayer; and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four
sisters. Funeral services were July 1, 1998 in the Rose Chapel of the Robertson-Drago
Funeral Home of West Plains, MO. Interment was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery under
the direction of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Judge W. R. Carson, known by almost every man, woman and child in this county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. Porter Stagg, in Fayette Co., Wednesday evening at 7:30, aged 78. The judge had been a resident of Stanford for many years until he removed to Fayette a year ago. He was in feeble health when he left and many of his friends predicted that they would not see him alive again. He became stronger after a short sojourn with his daughter, however, and until the illness that caused his death came, he suffered very little.
Judge Carson was magistrate and police judge for 38 years, both of which offices he filled with credit. For years he did saddler and harness business here and was reasonably successful in it. He was an unusually well posted man on current events and a great reader.
He loved Stanford and in his palmier days he did much for its advancement. A Trustee of Stanford Female College, her worked hard for its furtherance.
Judge Carson married Miss Permelia Dodd, who preceded him to the grave 23 years. He is survived by five children, Mesdames A. A. Warren of Middlesboro, J. E. Portman of this place, S. P Stagg, of Fayette, Mr. James T. Carson, of Louisville, and Charles C. Carson of Liberty, and in their loss of a kind and indulgent father they have much sympathy. The remains were brought here last night and at 10:30 this morning they will be interred in
Buffalo Cemetery. Rev. P. J. Ross will pray and make a few remarks at the grave.

Born Feb. 12, 1967, in Lancaster, he was the son of Riley Rae Caudill and Judy
Gay Bowen Caudill of Stanford. He was a former employee of Bausch and Lomb in
Sarasota, Fla., and of Katie Kids Silk Screening. He was a member of Versailles
Baptist Church.
Other survivors Include a brother, Riley Rae II of Stanford; a sister, Stefanie
Testa of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Don Testa; and a
sister-in-law, Michelle Monet of Stanford.

CRAB ORCHARD — Georgia Ellen Newcomb Coffey, 80, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville, Ky. She was the wife of Walter Coffey, whom she married in June 1966.
Born Feb. 9, 1931, in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Stella Mae Spivey Newcomb. She was a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Palm Beach Clothing Co. and Stearns & Foster in Ohio.
Survivors Include her husband, Walter Coffey of Crab Orchard; a daughter, Jenny (Lonnie) Brumett of Brodhead; grandchildren, Chris (Sondra) Brumett and Mark Brumett; five brothers, Roy E. (Amy) Newcomb of Moreland, Ky., Bobby Newcomb of New Palestine, Ind., Benny (Diane) Newcomb and Donnie Newcomb, both of Indianapolis, Ind., and Ronny (Margie) Newcomb of Stanford, Ky.; five sisters, Dorothy Williams of Hamilton, Ohio, Lois C. Coomer, 74, widow of Creston Coomer, died Feb. 24, 2011, at Ephraim McDowell
Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 14, 1936, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late
Theodore and Corine Watts Wilson. She worked in the food service department at
Centre College for 27 years and was a member of First Church of God, where she
was a greeter, worked in the nursery and was a member of the Homebuilders Sunday
School Class.
Survivors include a son, David (Lynn) Coomer of Lincoln County; a daughter,
Connie (Larry) Southerland of Danville, Ky.; two brothers, Glenn (Vivian) Wilson
of Danville and Jerry (Bobbie) Wilson of Berea, Ky.; two sisters, Wanda (Bud)
Trayner and Linda (Gary) Byrd, both of Lincoln County; four grandchildren, Jamie
Lee (Adam) Bradshaw, Kristie Leanne (Randy) Boyd, Christian Elijah Coomer
and Zach Coomer; and four great-grandchildren, Creston Oakes, Landon James
Oakes, Kae-Lynn Bradshaw and Riley Bradshaw.
She was
predeceased by a brother, Woody Wilson, and a sister, Brenda Wilson.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Church of God with the Rev.

CRAB ORCHARD — Russell Lee Doughty, 71, of Hamersville, Ohio, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Brown County General Hospital in Georgetown, Ohio.
He was retired from the United States Air Force after serving 25 years, and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church and currently was the Commander of the Carey Bavis American Legion Post No. 180 in Georgetown, Ohio.
Born Feb. 6, 1939, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Charles and Dora Muncie Doughty. He also was preceded in death by a brother, John Doughty.
Mr. Doughty is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carolyn Vaughn Doughty, whom he married Aug. 17, 1990; six children, Doug (Alice) Doughty of Williamsburg, Michael (Debbie) Doughty and Charles Doughty, both of Cincinnati, Amy Jordan of Mount Carmel, Ohio, Christina (Mike) Carey of Georgetown, Ohio, and Michael (Laura) Mendenhall of Columbus, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Gordon Kelley (Rita) Doughty of Trenton, Ohio; and two sisters, Treva Brickey of Lancaster, and Connie (Rodney) Sims of Crab Orchard.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ohio. Officiating minister will be Bro. Dan Gutenson, pastor of Watts Chapel Baptist Church in Crab Orchard.
Interment will be in the Pisgah Ridge Cemetery near Ripley, Ohio, with veteran services by the U.S. Air Force honor guard and the Carey Bavis American Legion Post No. 180.

Dunn, 76, of Waynesburg, Ky., passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 at
Ephraim-McDowell Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Frankfort, Ky. on Nov. 4, 1934, son of the late William Clinton
and Cora C. Harden Dunn. He was a mechanic.
He is survived by one son, Doug Dunn of Somerset; one daughter, Pam Moore of
Waynesburg; two brothers, Bennie Dunn of Georgetown, Ky. and Harold Dunn of
Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Joyce Switzer of Georgetown, Ky. and Janie Atchison
of Paris, Ky.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Partin Dunn; his parents; and
two sisters, Barbara Dunn and Ethel Dunn.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Morris &

CRAB ORCHARD — Viola Mae (Baker) Dyehouse, 79, of Crab Orchard, passed away on Friday, March 11, at her home. She was the widow of Elwood Dyehouse, who preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1996.
Viola was born in Broughtontown on July 19, 1931, to the late Oscar Fay Baker and Grace Maude Harness Baker. She was a member of Crab Orchard Christian Church.
She was the former co-owner and operator of Dyehouse Grocery and was the former owner and operator of Dyehouse Farm Supply in Crab Orchard.
Survivors Include six children, Judy Hammons of Stanford, Rhonda (Marvin) Marshbanks of Stanford, Yvonne Montgomery (John McGurk) of Lexington, Kenneth (Kathy) Dyehouse of Brodhead, Michael (Sharon) Dyehouse of Crab Orchard and Lisa Snee of Louisville. PM, Monday, November 15, 2010 at her residence.
She was born in Crab Orchard, KY on January 15, 1932 to George & Grace
(Bruner) Neal. On May 10, 1948 she married Harvey E. Carmichael and he preceded
her in death. She then married William S. Ehringer in 1964 and he passed away in
1975.
She was a member of the Midway Apostolic Church at Medora Junction. Her love for
family and friends was wonderful. She loved working in her flowers and canning.
She also loved working puzzles and coloring.
Survivors include:
3 sons: Harvey E. Carmichael, John R. Carmichael and William (Connie) Carmichael
2 daughters: Mary (Ray) Dyas and Alberta Horton
3 sisters: Maxine (Al) Bequeret, Judy (Roger) Wineinger and Marilyn Neal

FAINE, Alma Florence age 73, of Hamilton, passed away at her residence surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 6, 2010. She was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, on September 25, 1936, the daughter of the late Vernon and Gertrude (nee Barnett) Adams. On February 20, 1965, in Nebraska, Indiana, Alma married her husband of 41 years, John A. Faine, and he preceded her in death on August 19, 2006. She retired from the JC Penney Company in 1996 with 15 years of service. She also was employed for 20 years with Lebanon Raceway.
Alma is survived by her six
children Cheri Foxx of Hamilton, Jackie (Ron) Taubert of Dayton, Christopher
(Kathy) Faine of Seven Mile, John A. (Renee) Faine Jr. of Trenton, Patrick
(Jennifer) Faine of Seven Mile and Adam (Jackie) Faine of Las Vegas; 15

Isaac, Alecia, Ceirra, AJ, Laiken, Lindsay and Olivia; 12 great-grandchildren

MORELAND — Gladys May Followell, 76, of Franklin, Ind., died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011.
Born March 4, 1934, in McKinney, she was the daughter of the late James and Susie Naylor Crutcher. She worked at Willard Hotel in Franklin.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie Followell Jr.; three sons, Billy (Dinke) Mills of Danville, Dale Mills of Williamsburg and Jimmy (Pam) Mills of Goose Creek, S.C.; a sister, Revinna Henrey of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Marvin Crutcher of Franklin, Ind.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin, James and Boyd Crutcher.

Gerald Lee French, age 76, of Wyandotte, MI., died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Rivergate Nursing Home, Riverview, MI. Born August 5, 1934 in Lincoln County, to William Estel & Eva M. (nee James) French.
A Vietnam veteran, he entered the U. S. Air Force in 1955 and was honorably discharged in February 1967.
Survivors include his son Mr. Ronald French, a daughter, Mrs. Cindy Mullins, two brothers; Donald French and James T. French, three sisters; Mrs. Janice Walker, Mrs. Carole DiSanto and Ms. Gail French, two Aunts; Mrs. Violet James and Mrs. Doris Hart, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents and three sisters; Mrs. A. Juanita Bennett, Mrs. A. Bernice Good and Janet D. French, one infant brother; Ralph C. French. Eugene E. Goode Jr., 78, of Berea, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011, in his
residence.
He was a Stanford, Ky., native, born April 1, 1932, son of the late Eugene
Goode, Sr., and the late Mary Bernice Brown Goode Cooper, retired painting
contractor, member of Union City Christian Church, and had been a resident
of Berea the past several years.
Survivors include: his loving wife, Beulah Curry Goode; three children, William
Eugene Goode, Eddie (Patricia) Goode and Mary Lou (Jerry) Smith; four siblings,
Eugenia Young, Margaret Lunsford, Sue (Edward) Osborne and Billy (Cathy) Goode;
four grandchildren, Becca Goode, Emily Goode, Walker Goode and Olivia Goode.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: two brothers, Bowen
Goode and Joe Goode.

Saturday, September 5, 1998, in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville. Mrs.
Harris, a resident of Assumption, was 79 years old on May 10. She was born in
Waynesburg, Ky., a daughter of Baxter Monroe and Myrtle Britton Simpson. She
married Lloyd H. Harris in 1935, in Ottenheim, Ky. He died in 1980.
Surviving
are four other daughters, Eva Martin and Rosetta Cochran, both of Stanford, Ky.,
Sally Pankey of Danville, Ky., Julie Lowis of Palmer; six sons, John, Eddie and

SOMERSET — Bennie Lee Hensley Jr., 68, of Somerset, departed this life on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Born Nov. 28, 1942, in Stanford, Ky., he was a son of Nancy Hoskins Hensley McAninch and the late Bennie Lee Hensley Sr.
He was a United States Navy veteran, former owner of Driftwood Electrical and a member of Rush Branch Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, tournament fishing, bowling, playing pool and restoring old cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his family — children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Hall Hensley, whom he married on Feb. 18, 1988, in Somerset; his mother, Nancy (Carnell) McAninch of the Poplarville community; a son, Bennie Lee Hensley III of Somerset; three daughters, Veronica Crall-Martin (Tom) of Danville, Ky., Benita Hensley Lanham of Danville, and Stacy Jones (Jeremy Emerson) of Science Hill, Ky.; grandchildren, Haylee, Destinee, Trae, Benny IV, Daniel, Grace, Shelby, Chase, Peyton and Brooklyn; a brother, George Hensley (Sandy) of Burgin, Ky.; a sister, Alice Clark (Phil) of Danville; four stepsisters; a very special niece, Jennifer Owens (Verlan) of Somerset; and a close friend, Lige Stearns of Poplarville.
Along with his father, Bennie Lee Hensley Sr., he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Wayne Hensley, Phil Hensley and Mark Hensley; and a sister, Sue Hensley.

Mamie Louise Schneider-Hinman, 98, of Astoria, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at Clatsop Care Center in Astoria.
She was born July 24, 1912, in Stanford, Ky., to Emmett C. and Rebecca A. (Hiatt) Traylor.
In 1934, she graduated from Eastern Oregon College of Education. She attended the University of Oregon Medical School for nursing training.
In August 1935, she married Christian B. Schneider on Fern Hill Farm in Forest Grove. He preceded her in death in 1981. In 1985, she married Dr. Bud Hinman. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Hinman moved to the local area 48 years ago from Forest Grove, and lived in Astoria and Seaside. She worked as a secretary. In 1977, she retired from Tongue Point Job Corps. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Astoria and Daughters of the Nile in Ukiah, Calif.
Family members said that in her early years she enjoyed bridge, cooking, mending and painting. She also enjoyed clipping quotes from magazines and newspapers and watching CNN and golf on TV. She was a very strong-willed person who got things done, and was always interested in everything her family was doing.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca A. and Robert Blunck of Astoria; two grandchildren, Russell Blunck and his wife, Maddie, and Rhondel Cross; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove. Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.

HOCKER - Mr. Joseph F. Hocker, a mention of whose death appeared in our Tuesday's paper, was 58 years old and he left a widow, who was Miss Mary E. Riley, and six children, viz: Mesdames W. O. Speed, of this place, D. S. McKinney of Lafollette, Tenn., and W. G. Blankenship, of Burgin, and Messrs. Clarence Hocker, of St. Louis, James C. Hocker of Livingston, and Richard Hocker, of Pittsburg. Mr. Hocker's home was at Pittsburg, and he came to the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. O. Speed, eight weeks ago for medical treatment, but a kidney trouble had gotten in its work and constant medical attention and careful nursing were of no avail and the end came peacefully at 1:30 Tuesday morning, surrounded by as devoted a wife and children as ever lived. Rev.
P. J. Ross preached a splendid funeral sermon at Mr. Speed's Wednesday morning after which the remains were gently laid to rest in Buffalo Cemetery. Mr. Hocker was a druggist at McKinney for 15 years and moved from that place to Junction City, where he was agent for an express company for a long time. He was a member of the Methodist church and an exceedingly kind-hearted, clever man. His popularity was shown by the large number of friends who came from a distance to pay their last respects to him. Much sympathy is felt for the widow and children in their irreparable loss.

Oradelle Jackson, 95, of Richmond; went to be with the Lord September 23, 2010, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born August 21, 1915 in Lincoln County, Kentucky to Jasper and Mary Jane Smith Sanders and lived in Richmond most of her life.
Oradelle retired as a nursing assistant at the Richmond State Hospital, and she was a member of the Living Faith Church of God. She dearly loved her family and church.
Survivors include two sons Bill Jackson and Wayne (Linda) Jackson of Richmond, two daughters Jane (Jess) Baker of Phoenix, Arizona and Joan (Keith) Cole-Gray of Mesa, Arizona, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard, who died September 3, 1980, sons Gerald “Butch” Jackson and Carl Jackson, granddaughter Mashawn Jackson, grandson Steven Harrison, great grandsons Joey Brinker and Jesse Williams, sisters Edna Plummer and Francis Ashcraft and one brother William Sanders.

MORELAND — Lester E. Maddox, 79, of
Carpenter’s Creek, Parksville, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011.
Born March 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Sam and Ora Southerland Maddox.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela Singleton Maddox. He was a farmer,
and from 1960 to 1966, owned and operated Maddox grocery. He was a U.S. Army
sergeant and a tank operator during the Korean War. He was a charter member of
Forkland Community Center and of Butchertown Community Center, and had been
treasurer of National Farmer’s Organization. He attended Pleasant Run Baptist
and Butchertown Baptist Church.
Lester enjoyed fishing, hunting, rook, checkers and spending time at the creek
side. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and was so proud of
his grandchildren.
Survivors include his three sons, Dewayne
(Nancy) Maddox of Harrodsburg, Maurice (Ravonne) Maddox of Mitchellsburg and
Troy (Rita) Maddox of Stanford; two sisters, Pearl Davis and Violet Minton;
seven grandchildren, Nick, Levi, Chrissy, Adam and Samantha Maddox and John
Thomas and Corey Edwards; and four great-grandchildren, Reagan, Havannah, Sadie
and Savannah.

age 89, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010, at her
residence.
Born April 29, 1921, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, she was the
daughter of the late James G. and Ira Lee Skidmore Foley.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years,
Walter E. Mitchell, on November 1, 1998; one grandson, Michael Stidam; and a
sister, Ruth Barber.
Survivors include a son, Walter E. Mitchell, Jr. and wife
Francine of Maineville, Ohio; four daughters, Ruth Richardson and Regina Hornsby
of Wellington, Kentucky; Susan Daniel and husband William of Georgetown,
Kentucky; Carolyn Stidam of Morehead, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; seven great
grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a special friend and
caregiver, Janice Vanhook.
Florence was a member of the Elliottville Baptist Church. She
was active in several organizations including Mt. Sterling Rebekah Lodge #82 of
Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and had served as Past President of the Rebekah
Assembly; Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant Branch of Independent Order of
Odd Fellows; and the Rowan County Homemakers. She was an avid collector of dolls
and was a member of the Cave Run Doll Club for many years.
Florence was a graduate of the Winchester Beauty College and
owned and operated a beauty shop in Clearfield, Kentucky, for several years.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, December
21, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor
Willie Sturgill officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

is the widow of Paul E. Moore. She was a seamstress for local sewing factories
and enjoyed quilting, but will be remembered as a caretaker in her nursing home
in Stanford. She is a member of the Waynesburg Pentecostal Church.

Vaught Moore. He was a farmer and a member of Hustonville First Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Helen Geneva Releford Moore;

WAYNESBURG — Dallas “Peanut” Patterson, 85, of Pond Ridge, Lincoln County, passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 10, 2011, at his home.
Born on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1925, in Casey County to Walter and Nancy Carman Patterson, Peanut was a member of Pond Baptist Church and had 30 years of perfect attendance in Sunday School. He was a member of Farm Bureau and the VFW. Peanut served his country in the Army during World War II. He was an employee of Farmers No. 1 Tobacco Warehouse in Danville for 17 years, a Lincoln County school bus driver for 26 years and a life-long farmer who loved the land.
Peanut leaves behind his wife, Fama Adams Patterson, whom he wed on Dec. 11, 1948; son, Lynville “Bub” (Janet) Patterson of Pond Ridge; daughters, Linda (Danny) Roberts of Nicholasville, Lana (Joe) Hixson of Pond Ridge, Gail Hamilton of Pond Ridge; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.
Peanut was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Delbert, Oran, Cleo, Theodore and Ethridge Patterson.
An Appreciation of Life service will be 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Pond Baptist Church with Bros. Chester Cornett and Ronnie Haste officiating. Burial will follow in Pond Cemetery with military honors by Caswell Saufley American Legion Post No.18.

Dr. E.C. Peck, 94, of Monroe – Mount Pleasant Retirement
Village, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010. He was born on May 4, 1916 in
Stanford, Kentucky.
Dr. Peck was a graduate of Middletown High School in the class of 1934. He
received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University
in 1945. He practiced veterinary medicine in Middletown and Madison Township for
35 years. He was an Honor Roll member and a life member of the American
Veterinary Medical Association. He belonged to the Alpha Phi fraternity and was
an honorary member of the Phi Zeta fraternity. He also belonged to the O.S.U.
Veterinary Alumni Society. For many years Dr. Peck served as a member and
president of the Madison School District Board of Education. He was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church of Middletown for 60 years.
Dr. Peck was admired for his many talents. He was known for his many carvings of
animals and walking canes. He loved growing beautiful flowers.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ida Mae; daughter-in-law, Carol Peck;
son-in-law, Phil (Yvonne) Brewer; grandchildren, Angela (Kevin) Fanning,
Kimberli (David) Steele, Michelle (Jason) Crosley and Stephen (Flavia) Brewer;
five great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Jo Brewer; son, John D. Peck; and
brothers, Clyde, Curtis, Robert & Leslie Peck

Gary Porter, 53, of Danville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Saturday, July 20, 1957, in Fayette County, he was a son of John Porter and the late Virginia Dryer Porter. Gary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville. He was an avid knife collector and a huge University of Kentucky sports fan.
Survivors include his father, John Porter of Liberty; son, Joshua Tincher of Bardstown; daughter, Natasha Tincher of Powell County; brother, Jim Porter of Danville; and four grandchildren, Jathan, Tyous, Braxton and Shatera Tincher.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Dr. Tim Mathis and Bro. Everett Priddy officiating. Burial will follow in Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Joan Belcher Puckett, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Thursday, March 18, 1999 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus at the age of 92. She was born in Lincoln County, KY, June 2, 1906, daughter of David and Sarah (Gross) Belcher, and lived in Middletown for most of her life. She was employed by Armco as a laboratory analyst for many years. Following her husband's death, she lived in Columbus, and most recently in Friendship Village, in Dublin. She took great pride in her gardening, cooking, and sewing, only a few of her wonderful talents. Her many gifts and loving ways will be dearly missed by her daughters, Helen Puckett Kaurich, and her husband, Frank, of Columbus, and Marjorie Puckett Jaffee, of Boca Raton, Fla.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Douglas Richards, and his wife, Leigh, of Clinton, N.J., Deb Tongren, and her husband, Rob, of Columbus, David Kaurich, and his wife, Mary, of Muskegon, Mich., Charles Jaffee, of Portland, Ore., Joan Jaffee Miller, and her husband, Will, of Seattle, Wash., Tracy Kaurich Columbo, and her husband, Frank, of Wooster, and Thomas Kaurich, of London, England; and great-grandchildren, A.J. and Amy Richards, Jennifer, Peter, and Andrew Tongren, Katherine and Elizabeth Miller, and Alison Columbo. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and loving husband, George William Puckett.

Carroll Romayne Purdom, 79 of Gravel Switch died Tues. Feb. 1, 2011. He was born April 2, 1931 in Casey County where he farmed and resided until death. Carroll graduated from Forkland High School in 1948. He was an active member of the Gravel Switch United Methodist Church and a 50 year Mason of Lodge 87, in Lebanon, KY. He was a retired volunteer fireman with the Boyle Forkland Fire Dept. of 25 years. He was a retired EMT of the Boyle County Forkland Rescue Squad, an active member of the Forkland Community Center and a US Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his father, Oatley Bruce Purdom; mother, Mattie Vinson Johnson Purdom and sister, Lois Christine Purdom.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Lane Purdom; daughter, Dianna M. Purdom Barker; and son-in-law, Larry G. Barker, JR, all of Gravel Switch; granddaughter, Jamie M. 90, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away Tuesday, March 15, at his home.
Born Oct. 28, 1920, in Perry County, Ky., he was the son of the late Caddy and
Elizabeth Lewis Shepherd. He was the husband of Alma Carol Collins Shepherd,
whom he married Jan. 7, 2008. He was a former coal miner, having worked for the
Peabody Co. He was a member of United Mine Workers Union and the Pentecostal
Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Carol Collins Shepherd of Crab Orchard; four
daughters, Christine (Ed) Baker of Mount Vernon; Louise Merritt of Crab Orchard,
Penny (Eddie) Scott of Beaver Dam and Peggy (Dexter) Arthur of Orlando, Fla.; a
son, Lawrence (Janie) Shepherd of London; 10 grandchildren; 10

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught adult Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union.
Besides her husband of 68 years, she is survived by daughters, Robin Claire (Charles) Ison, Harrodsburg and Beverly Jo (Charles) Langford, Lake Charles, LA; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a nephew and several nieces.

MORELAND — A. Virginia Maddox Smith, 88, of Moreland, died Monday, March 7, 2011.
Born Dec. 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson and Elizabeth Katherine Mitchell Maddox. She was a faithful member of Maxey Valley Church of God and a previous employee of Cowden’s Manufacturing until an accident left her paralyzed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Barker Smith; daughter, Doris Cobb; son, David Smith; grandson, Gregory Koller; sister, Jeanette Southerland and brother, Edward Maddox.

Flois Vinson Smith, 82, wife of Scott Smith, died March 10, 2011.
Born in Cerulean, she was the daughter of the late Herbel and Bertha M. Blalock Vinson. Her family moved locally in 1930.
The three most important people in her life were her husband, Scott Smith; her son, Winfield Scott Smith; and her grandson, Jared Scott Smith.
Married in 1947, her survivors include her husband, Scott; her son, Winfield Scott Smith, and his wife, Ellen Smith; a grandson, Jared Scott Smith; and a step-grandson, Aaron Brown. Other survivors include her brother Auta L. (LaVerne) Vinson of Danville. She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. She attended Tolliver (Maple Avenue) Elementary School, Danville High School and Lexington Community College. During her high school years she worked for Newberry and Woolworth stores on Danville's Main Street, and was a clerk at the Danville Tax Office after graduation and marriage.
Mrs. Smith was classified and circulation manager for the family-owned newspaper, The Marshal Courier in Benton, located in western Kentucky, from 1962 to 1970, and later a partner and circulation manager of their family-owned stock car racing newspaper, The Kentucky Racing News, with her husband Scott and son Win. It published for 22 years.
She was a knowledgeable book-reader with mystery and western interests, along with world interests. She worked at the Boyle County library for several years.
As an avid amateur golfer she won many awards as a member of the Benton Country Club and the Bright Leaf Golf Club in Harrodsburg.
She took her son, Win, to his first auto race as a toddler, when the track was located on Airport Road in Junction City, and was actively involved in his racing career that included dirt tracks, ARCA, USAC Silver Crown and SCCA. She encouraged him as an educator in the Danville School District where he is presently the Danville High School principal. She equally supported her grandson, Jared, in his Go Kart racing and his racing ambitions in Formula First Open Wheel Road Racing and Stock Car racing, including his education at the University of Kentucky.
A first recipient of open heart replacement of a prosthetic mitral valve, she expresses her thanks to Dr. M. Cary Blaydes, Lexington Clinic, for his excellent knowledge and care that provided for more than 35 years to enjoy her family. Mrs. Smith often mentioned her medical friends, Peggy Skaggs, Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, and Mary McGee, Lexington Clinic.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Services will be private and burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Lincoln County. Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Medical Center in Lexington.
Born Nov. 29, 1957, in Stanford, he was a son of Sandra Dyehouse Smith of
Stanford and the late Douglas Smith. Mike was retired from the Allen Co. where
he was a blacktop analyst. He enjoyed golfing and was a child of God who enjoyed
being outdoors, primarily hunting and fishing.
Survivors, other than his mother, Sandra, include his dear wife, Vickie Lear
Smith; two daughters, Cristen Smith of Mount Vernon and Mehgan (Chris) Cross of
Louisville; two brothers, Doug D. (Dixie) Smith and Eddie (Ruth) Smith, both of

Jasper Tackette, 86, of Stanford died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1924 in Pulaski County.
He was the son of the late B.F. and Laura Tyler Tackette. He was a proud veteran
of the U.S. Armed Forces serving with honor during WWII. He was a farmer for
several years and retired in 1984 from Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He is
preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Deltie Bastin Tackette, a daughter
Shelia Dain Tackette and a son Shannon Dale Tackette.
He
is survived by two daughters, Karen Tackette Phillippe (Michael) and Veronica
Lynn Tackette, one brother J.M. Tackette of Pulaski County and several nieces
and nephews.

On Sunday, April 2nd, in the calm of a beautiful Spring afternoon, the spirit of Mrs. Susan Vance Warren was summoned back to her Creator. Seized with a severe cold about 10 days previously, from the beginning her symptoms were alarming and her family and friends were fearful that, enfeebled by years, she could not throw off the attack. On Sunday morning she fell into a gentle sleep, and so noiselessly did the call from the Great Beyond come, that ever those who watched by her bed scarcely knew when her soul took flight.
Mrs. Warren was born Jan. 22, 1820 in Stanford, and within a stone's throw of the house in which she died. Her ancestors were Virginians, her grandfather having moved to this State from Loudon County, Va, at the close of the 18th century. They were men of prominence and influence in the community. Her uncle, Michael Davidson, being a captain of a company of volunteers in the war of 1812, and another uncle, James Davidson, was a colonel of the volunteer regiment in the same war.
In 1837 she was united in marriage with Hamilton Jenkins, of this county, who died in 1839. Several years later she married Granville Purdom. To them were born four children, Thomas, George, Robert and Bettie, the first two dying in early manhood. Mr. Purdom having died in 1852, his widow married Wm. Warren, who proceeded her to the grave some 30 years.
Her only daughter, Bettie, who married I. M. Bruce, of this place, died in 1891. On her was centered all the wealth of a mother's affection, and the shadow of this loss never lifted from off her heart. Mrs. Bruce left one child, Mary, who was a comfort of Mrs. Warren's old age, and upon whom she lavished the measureless love of both mother and grandmother. In her declining years, Mrs. Warren lived with her son-in-law, Mr. Bruce, and he and his wife were unfailing in kind and thoughtful attention.
With the exception of a short period spent in Springfield, Ky., Mrs. Warren lived in Stanford her whole life, and her knowledge of its early history was unequalled by anyone. Possessed of a splendid memory and endowed with clear expression in speech, it was indeed a treat to sit in her presence and listen to her relate incidents of Stanford's early days, and describe citizens the prominent in the community.
For many years she kept hotel here and the "Warren House" and its proprietress are still affectionately remembered by those who enjoy the privilege of boarding there. In fact, it is a strong tribute to Mrs. Warren's character that those who lived in the same house with her 40 years ago were among her staunchest friends in the closing years of her life.

CRAB ORCHARD — Grace H. Wilson, of Crab Orchard, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Telford Terrace Nursing Home in Richmond.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1923, to the late Dr. John (Mildred Marshall) Harmon. She was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church where she served as the organist for more than 50 years. She was a Kentucky Colonel and member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern Star, Lincoln County Library Board, Lincoln County Homemakers and Crab Orchard Planning and Zoning. She retired as superintendent for the William Whitley House State Shrine. Grace traveled the world abroad and loved the outdoors.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wilson.
She is survived by two children, Marsha Wilson of St. Louis and John Wilson and his wife, Rebecca, of Richmond; two grandchildren, Alicia (Mike) Whitaker and John M. Wilson; and one great-grandson, Trevor S. Gumm.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard with private burial in Lancaster Cemetery. Funeral Services will be private.

CRAB ORCHARD — Lillian V. Stevenson Dunn-Young, 74, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.
Born May 17, 1936, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Jordan and Fannie Snodgrass Stevenson. She retired from the Lincoln County School System, having worked at the Stanford high and elementary schools, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Perryville.
To cherish her memories, Lillian leaves her children, Beverly (Ed) Sleet, Stephen (Tammy) Dunn, Kittie Thomas and Mack (Kim) Dunn; one stepdaughter, Katina Young; two brothers, Jordan (Bertie) Stevenson and Ernest (Lovia) Stevenson; three sisters-in-law, Addie J. Logan, Josephine Dunn-Green and Mary Young Frye; the joys of her life, seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two special great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ottenheim; three nephews, Billy (Mary) Zwahlen of Richmond, Ky., James (Beverly)
Zwahlen of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Jerry (Suzanne) Zwahlen of Ottenheim;
and a cousin, Margaret Striepe of Louisville, Ky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by three brothers, Alfred, Walker and Frank Zwahlen.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church
at Ottenheim, officiated by the Rev. David Witten. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Visitation will be noon-1 p.m. Monday at the church
