Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born May 21, 1942, in Crab Orchard, Ky., she was the daughter of Irene
(Saylor) Belcher and the late Joe B. Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Mantia of Carlisle, Ohio;
a son, Dennis Harold Smith of Danville, Ky.; two sisters,
Bobbie Pittenger of Danville and Yvonne Thacker of Franklin, Ohio; a brother,
James Danny Smith of Stanford, Ky.; and a
granddaughter, Alexandria Gibson of Englewood, Ky.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Buffalo
Springs Cemetery with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating

Shafter and Stella Flannery Sizemore.

STANFORD —Cassie Marie Barnett, 23, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010,
in Los Angeles, Calif.
Born Wednesday, June 3, 1987, in Fayette County, she was a daughter of
Daniel Lee and Jane Noe Barnett.
Cassie was a 2005 graduate of Lincoln County High School, a member of Phi Beta
Phi Sorority, an honor student at the Fashion Institute of
Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, a member of American Society of
Interior Designers Student Chapter, an Intern at
Barclay Butera Interiors in Los Angeles and a member of Stanford Presbyterian
Church.
Cassie is survived by her parents, Daniel and Jane N. Barnett of
Stanford; her sister, Gentry Barnett of Lexington; her maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Noe of Stanford; and her paternal
step-grandmother, Selma Conatser Barnett of Waynesburg.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, the late C.R.
and Virginia Barnett.
Friends and family may gather for a Celebration of Life Service for
Cassie at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
The Rev. Jim Erwin will officiate the service.
Robert Conatser, Russell Downey, Josh Hughes, Gatlin Greer, Phil
Collins, Sean Lair, Jesse Hatter and Zach Kittinger have been asked
to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Adele Baugh, 60, formerly of Stanford, died Tuesday, July 20, at Fountain Circle Nursing
Home in Winchester.
Born Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1949, in Illinois, she was a daughter of the
late Lonnie and Opal Baugh. Adele was a nurse at Garrard
County Hospital and Fort Logan Hospital for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening,
crocheting and swimming in her younger years.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Lenny and Danny Baugh; a
daughter Christine Padgett; and grandson, Matthew Shackelford.
Survivors include, sons, David (Deanna) Turner and John Turner (fiancé'
Chardee) both of Lancaster, Ralph Padgett (fiancé Shannon) of South
Carolina and Matthew Kangas of Stanford; daughters, Sherri Turner (Steve) Noland

Eugene "Gene" Bell, 87, of Moreland, died
Wednesday, July, 22.
Born
Feb. 2, 1923, he was a son of the late Jesse Elmer and Winnie Smith Bell. Gene
was a World War II Army veteran. He attended
Hustonville Baptist Church and was a charter member of Moreland Baptist Church,
where he was a Sunday school teacher and deacon for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Campbell Bell; daughters, Linda
(Donnie) Pruitt Warner and Brenda (Allen) Goggin;
six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, July 30 at Hustonville Baptist
Church. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD — Ethel Jean Benge, 75, of Georgetown, formerly of Crab
Orchard, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Signature Healthcare Center in
Georgetown.
Born Sept. 18, 1934, in Broughtontown, Ky., he was the daughter of the
late Robert and Grace Burdine Reynolds. She was a retired employee of Gulf
States Paper in Nicholasville.
Survivors include five daughters, Tami Jo (Richard) Whalen of Dayton,
Ohio, Toni (Mickey) Humphrey of Nicholasville, Ky., Ramona
Brock and Jamie (Bruce) Ross Jr., both of Georgetown, Ky., and Melanie Warren of
Cynthiana, Ky.; a sister, Patsy (Jimmy) Wells of Waynesburg, Ky.;
a brother, Gerald (Charlotte) Todd of Crab Orchard, Ky.; six grandchildren,
Nicholas Rouse, Nichole Rogers, Alyxx Warren, Mickey Thomas Humphrey, Devan
Warren and Samuel Humphrey; and three great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Emily and
Bentley.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, at McKnight Funeral
Home Chapel officiated by Pastor Sam Glenn. Burial will be in Mount Zion
Church of Christ Cemetery.

of Waynesburg, died Thursday, June 17.
Born Jan. 5, 1947, in Somerset, he was a son of the late Joe and Vada
Purcell Black. Roy was an employee for Nicholasville Hospital Supplies and of
the Pentecostal faith.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Joe Lawrence and Robert
Black.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Padgett Black of Dry Ridge; one
sister, Ruth Cash; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were June 22 at Calvary Tabernacle Church with Bro. Joe
Barrett officiating. Burial was in Olive Cemetery.

WAYNESBURG — Ray Bolden, 47, of Hustonville, passed away on Friday,
June 18, 2010, at his residence.
He was born in Pikeville on April 12, 1963, to the late Elige Bolden Jr.
and Clara Ellen Goble Bolden. Ray was an equipment
operator and construction worker. He will be remembered for his love of
basketball and football and as a Steelers fan.
Ray leaves behind his wife, Lisa Kidd Bolden; two sons, Stevie and
Joshua Bolden, both of Hustonville; two brothers, David (Rita) Bolden of
Prestonsburg and Oliver (June) Bolden of Dandridge, Tenn.; and two sisters, June
(Gene) Bertrand of Pikeville and Debbie (Ricky) Birchfield of Cynthiana.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dimple Thacker
and Teresa Bolden.
Services for Ray will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2010, at Little
Pilgrim’s Rock Old Fashion Regular Baptist Church with Bro. Johnny Baker
officiating.
Graveside services will follow at Double Springs Cemetery. Visitation
will be today until the time of service on Monday at the church.

on Sunday, July 15, 1934, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Lenard and
Mary Oaks Dowell. Vernice was the widow of Clarence,
she was a homemaker, a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church and attended Olive
Baptist Church.
Vernice
leaves behind her sons, Homer Lee Britton and his wife Brenda of Waynesburg and
William Clarence Britton and his wife Diana of Louisville; a daughter,
Mary Oaks and her husband David of Waynesburg; a sister, Elsie Moore of
Waynesburg; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Vernice
was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Edward Faulkner; brothers,
Henry, Jimmy, William, Homer, Ted, Lenard Junior,

HARRODSBURG — George Weber Buchanan, 73, husband of Sue Isham
Buchanan, died Sunday.
Born Jan. 9, 1937, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late George
Walker and Louella Mae Trisler Buchanan. He was a retired farmer and a member of
Mount Pleasant Church, where he served as deacon. He also served on the
Selective Service Board and Mercer County Farm Bureau Board,
and was a square-dancer with the Constitution Squares club.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sherry Sue (Steve) Horn of
Harrodsburg; two sons, George Perry (Rebecca) Buchanan and Cecil Edward
Buchanan, both of
Harrodsburg; three sisters, Margaret (McKinley Jr.) Anness and Janet (Jerry)
Thacker, both of Harrodsburg, Nancy (Harvey) Baker of Lawrenceburg; a brother,
William Irvin Buchanan of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren; six great
grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Wanda (Wallace) Lester and Anita Ransdell; a
brother-in-law,

was a graduate of University of Louisville, a retired music teacher,
lifetime member of Stanford Presbyterian Church, past choir director, church
pianist, and children's music director.

daughter-in-law Rose Lynn Campbell of Batesville,

14, 2010, at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, Ky.
Born Jan. 16, 1950, in Stanford, he was a son of Dorothy Carrier Walters
of Stanford and the late James Craig Carrier. He was a barber with Jim Garner's
Hair Styling in Danville, a former owner/operator of Industrial Park
Distributors in Danville, an original band member of ACME Dynamite
Company and attended Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Scott Carrier (Gretchen) of Stanford; a
daughter, Misti Carrier Davis (John) of Lancaster; his mother, Dorothy Carrier
Walters of Stanford; a sister

WAYNESBURG — Ray Combs, 70, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at
Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington.
Ray spent his last days in Lexington with his brother Dean, to whom he
was very close as they both were in Vietnam together.
Ray was born on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1940, in Lincoln County to the late
Sherman and Mary Napier Combs. Ray proudly served his county in the
Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Three O/S Bars, Expert (M-14)
Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation
Medal, Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Medal
with five Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device.
He was a member of Lexington Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 68, American Legion
Post No. 345 in Stanford, and Disabled American Veterans. He returned to
Lexington to work for Southern Ice Co. and then as a glazier for Happy the Glass
Man and Onan Glass Co. Ray will also be remembered for his love for the Kentucky
Wildcats.
Ray leaves behind his daughters, Sheila Lilly and her husband Terry of
Loves Park, Ill., and Deanna Combs of Kentucky; brothers, Dean Combs and his
wife,
Johnny of Lexington, Gary Combs and his wife, Vickie of Harrodsburg, Doug Combs
and his wife Jean of Waynesburg, and Gene Combs and his wife, Linda of
Lexington; sisters, Faye McConnell of Delaware, Ohio, Linda McKinney and her
husband, Donald of Danville, Sharon Singleton and Audrey Combs, both of
Stanford,
Freda Trent and her husband, Walter of Lancaster and Carolyn Petrey and her
husband Jerry of Crab Orchard; three grandchildren, Julie Singh, Julian King and
Amy Flaningam; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carlos and Clayton
Combs, and sisters, Francis Smith and Lessa Combs.
Services for Ray will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Barnett
& Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. Stan Vickers officiating. Burial will be
in Double Springs Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post
No. 18.

CRAB ORCHARD — Mrs. Glenda Faye Wall Cook, 52, of Stanford passed away
on Saturday, July 17, at her home. She
was the wife of Danny Lee Cook, whom she married on July 4, 2001.
Glenda was born Aug. 23, 1957, in Stanford, Ky. She was the daughter of
Myrtle Snow Rexroat and the late Lawrence Wall. Glenda was a former
nurse's aide having worked at the Golden Living Center in Stanford.
Survivors Include her husband, Danny Cook of Stanford; her mother,
Myrtle Rexroat of Russell Springs; a son, Chris (Crystal) Jacobs of Russell
Springs; a daughter,
Jessica Siler of Waynesburg; stepdaughter, Amy Cook of Indiana; stepson, Shane
Cook of Stanford; grandson, Leland Jacobs of Russell Springs; six sisters,

MORELAND — Herbert James Downs, 88, of Junction City died Wednesday,
June 23, 2010.
Born Jan. 16, 1922, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Turner
and Lena Hall Downs. He proudly served his country during World War II
in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of three Bronze Service Stars, a Purple
Heart and a W.W.II Victory Medal.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Dora “Bonnie” Hughes Downs, who he was
married to for 55 wonderful years. They share nine children together,
Opal (Edgar) Ray, Connie Moore, Joann Allen, Donnie (Judy) Downs, Herbert James
Jr. (Sadie) Downs, Linda (Clay) Anderson, Wayne (Martha) Downs,
Ronnie (Patricia) Hughes and Wayne (Mary) Pahl; 23 grandchildren; 39
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

STANFORD — Herman Otto Ensslin, 73, of Ottenheim died Wednesday.
Born on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1936, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the
late Henry and Martha Hildebrandt Ensslin. He was a farmer and a member of
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ottenheim.
Herman was preceded in death by a sister, Frieda Raines. He leaves
behind several cousins.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Old Reformed Cemetery
in Ottenheim, with Bro. Dennis Spangler officiating.

Lannis L.D. "Doug" Eubank, 74, of Spring City, Tenn., formerly of Eubank, died Sunday,
July 18, at Mercy West Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn., after a short illness with
lung cancer.
Born Oct. 9, 1935, in Waynesburg, he was a son of the late Sherod and
Pauline Saylor Eubank. Doug served four years in the National Guard and
Army, retired from Procter & Gamble after 32 years in Cincinnati, Ohio,
moved to Spring City, Tenn., where he enjoyed fishing and was a member of the
Church of Christ.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly McKeehan;
granddaughter, Katie McKeehan; six brothers, Chester, Forest, Lonnie, Sherod
Jr., John and Casper; and three sisters, Nell, Opal and Midge.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Littrell Eubank; a son, Tim (Teri)
Eubank of Spring City, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Bobby McKeehan of Corbin,
Travis
Eubank, stationed in Iraq and Trista Eubank of Spring City, Tenn.; a brother,
James (Brenda) Eubank of Richmond; a sister, Jan (John) Farley of Science Hill;
and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

of Kings Mountain, died Monday, July 26 in Stanford.
Born Saturday, March 27, 1926, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of
the late French and Mary C. Robirds Roberston. Hazel was a
homemaker, the widow of Paul Fight and enjoyed camping.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Fight.
Survivors include a son, Larry G. Fight of Kings Mountain; daughter,
Carolyn Smith of Highland; brother, Hubert Roberston of Waynesburg; sister,
Velma Phillippe of
Stanford; five grandchildren, Paul E. Fight, Dana M. Fight, Eric H. Fight, Dedra
Wills and Lee Smith; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., today (July 29) at Barnett &
Demrow Funeral Home in Waynesburg with Rev. Josh Vanhook officiating. Burial

Health & Rehab in Louisville.
Born Friday, Sept. 28, 1917, in Stanford, Isabell was a daughter of the
late Thomas Hale and Liza Belle Hazlett. She was the widow of Ivan Lee Foley.
Survivors include two sons, Jessie Lee and Billy Joe Foley of Danville;
a daughter, Ruby (John) Morrison of Sellersburg, Ind.; two daughters-in-law,
Linda and Brenda Foley;
11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.

Billy H. Fox, 87, of Stanford, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010 at
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. He was born in Stanford on
Friday,
March 2, 1923 to the late Newell and Alva Holtzclaw Fox. Bill was a funeral
director & embalmer since 1949 and was the former owner of Fox Funeral Home.
He was an Army
Veteran of WW II in which he was a recipient of four Bronze stars, Silver Star
and Purple Heart during his campaign in the South Pacific during the battle for
Bougainville in the Solomon
Islands and in Manila, where he was one of 10 who helped liberate 1200 inmates
from Bilibid Prison.
He was active in many civic organizations, including Stanford Lions Club as Past
President , eyeglass chairman and recipient of Melvin Jones Award, one of the
founders of Lincoln County
Little League program, former director of the Lincoln County Federal Savings
& Loan, past member of the Lincoln County Industrial Board, past Director of
the Salvation Army, a 32nd
degree Mason, being active with Oleika Shrine, Scottish Rite and the Wilderness
Shrine Club. He was a former President of Buffalo Springs Cemetery Board, a
recipient of the Lincoln County
Chamber Outstanding Citizen Award and an Elder and Deacon with Stanford
Presbyterian Church. Bill Fox was a true gentleman who gave to his country and
to his community, giving his
time to many organizations and community events, too numerous to mention.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jesse Fox and a sister, Nancy
Lynn Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lorene Helm Fox of Stanford; a
daughter, Kitty Craycraft and her husband, Bill of Lexington; a son, Happy Fox
and his wife, Gay of
Fletcher, NC; a sister, Rebecca Carter of Stanford; and four grandchildren, Will
Craycraft, Megan Craycraft, Jess Fox and John Fox.
An Appreciation of Life Service for Bill will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 2nd at
Fox Funeral Home by Rev. Jim Erwin with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Visitation for the
public will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the
family asks that memorials be made to Ministerial Association Food Bank, 302

CRAB ORCHARD — June Hoskins Genton, 87, of Crab Orchard died Saturday
at Golden Living Center in Stanford.
Born Sept. 8, 1922, in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the
late Matthew and Verinda Shelton Hoskins. She was a member of Crab Orchard
Baptist Church and the
widow of Mike Genton, who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1978.
Survivors include four children, Bill (Kathy) Genton of Fort Myers,
Fla., Larry (Libby) Genton of Orlando, Fla., Sharon (Curtis) Simpson and Jerry
(Rita) Genton, both of Waynesburg;
two stepsons, Morris Genton of Madisonville and Arthur (Gertrude) Genton of
Florida; seven grandchildren, Teresa, Wayne, Michael, Andy, David, Diana and
Dustin; three
step grandchildren, Jerry, Melissa and Arthur Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren; and
three great-great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

She was born
Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1943, in Evanston, Wyo., to the late Wilford and Donna Ewer.
Ellen was a person who loved her family and friends and was
known for her family traditions. She will be remembered for her love of growing
things and the outdoors, especially flowers. Ellen was a member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints. She was a member of Stanford EMS and worked as a dispatcher until
she became an LPN at Fort Logan Hospital.
Ellen leaves behind
her two sons, Greg Miracle and his wife Chyrl of Tennessee and Dustin Miracle
and his wife Kandi of Stanford; three daughters, Kristi Miracle and Margie
Roark,
both of Stanford, and Rexene Miracle of Tennessee; two brothers, Richard Miller

She was a student at Lincoln County High School, a member of Fairview Baptist
Church where she was active in the youth group and a cashier at Durham's
Grocery. Leonora was a cheerleader at Stanford Elementary, Lincoln Middle
School, Garrard County High School and Lincoln County High School; a girl scout
from Daisy until Cadet,
active in the 4-H Club and a model for Images Modeling Agency. She was also
involved with gymnastics at KC's Gymnastics and Damons CTA.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Norman Parker.
Other survivors include her mother's fiancé, Rick Watson; a brother,
David Tyler Withers of Stanford; her boyfriend, Stevie Bolden of Hustonville;

Joseph and Mary Jane Blanton Spears. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Ottenheim and the widow of Herman Alfred Schlappi.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Luther, Jerry, George and
Henry Spears; and sisters, Dorothy Ledford, Gladys Hensley, Pearl Spears and
Ella Mae Hines.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil Schlappi of Lindenhurst, Ill., and
Charles Andrew Schlappi of Ottenheim; three daughters, Pauline Bradshaw, Carolyn

STANFORD — Katha Rena Sims Schnitzler, 94, of Stanford passed away
early Thursday morning, June 3, 2010, after a long stay at Charleston Health
Care Center.
Born Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1916, in Pulaski County, she was a daughter of
the late Willie and Effie Caldwell. She was a homemaker and the widow of William
Schnitzler.
Katha leaves behind her sons, Roger Schnitzler and his wife Fay of
Stanford and Bill Schnitzler and his wife Rebekah of Stanford; a brother,
Clarence Sims of
Waynesburg; three grandchildren, Justin and Harland Feldman, and Tonya Coleman;
and two great-great-grandchildren, Morgan and Kadyn Feldman.
Katha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter,
Phyllis Feldman; brothers, Roy, Walter and Lawrence Sims; and sisters, May
Barnes and Dolly Eastman.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Fox Funeral Home,

Kentucky Hospital.
Born Jan. 29, 1972, in Danville, she was the daughter of Brenda Carrier

employed at American Greetings for 15 years.
Other survivors include her husband, Scott Coffman of Hustonville; a
son, Gavin Scott Coffman of Hustonville; three brothers Edward and Vincent Sears
both of McKinney and Shane Coleman of Highland.
Funeral services were July 2 at Green River Pentecostal Church with Revs
Rick Naylor and Curtis Brock officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs
Cemetery.

widow of Richard Sims and had a great love for her cats.

Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospice Center in
Indianapolis, IN, losing her battle to cancer after fighting it for two years.
She
was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky on January 9, 1941, daughter of the late
J.C. and Marie Phelps. She retired from Crawford Industries in May 2008,
where she was employed for 34 years. She was a member of Parkersburg Christian
Church. Edith graduated from Roachdale High School in 1959.
She
was formerly married to Lloyd Tribble, he still survives. Other survivors
include daughters, Kathy & (Mark) Acree of Columbus, OH, Kelly & (Scott)
Bryant of
St. Mary's, GA and Julie Tribble of Crawfordsville, IN, one son, John Tribble of
Crawfordsville, IN, eight grandchildren that she thoroughly enjoyed, two

the late Joe Marion Wilson and Alma Wesley Wilson. He worked in the produce
department at Stanford Wal-Mart and will be remembered for his love for Dale
Earnhardt and the No. 3.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe, and a brother, David
Wilson.
He is survived by his mother, Alma “Cricket” Wilson of Waynesburg;
two brothers, Louie and his wife, Sharon, and Lonnie and his wife, Joan, all of
Waynesburg;
a half brother, Jody Wilson and his wife, Patty, of Cincinnati; four sisters,
Barbara Byrd and her husband, Steve, and Linda Griffin and her husband, Junior,

Regional Hospital in Danville.
She was the wife of the late Gerald F. Wooden. Carolyn was born in
Lancaster, Kentucky on October 4, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Martin
and Mary Caroline
(Morhinners) Esaman. She was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church. Carolyn
was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie (Bud) Schuler of Waynesburg and
Linda (Jon) Emerton of Cincinnati; a son, Jody J. Wooden of San Diego, Calif., a
brother, Martin F.
Esaman of Milwaukee, Wis.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by
a sister, Leona Eble.
Pallbearers were Bud Schuler, Jon Emerton, Joe and James Schuler, and
Mitch and Samuel Emerton.
