Raymond Douglas Anderson, 82,
of Texarkana, Texas, died Thursday, May 13 at his home.
Born Nov. 3, 1927, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Thomas
and Caroline Anderson. Anderson was a veteran of World War II and the Korean
War, an attorney, charter member of the Evening Kiwanis Club and a former member
of Fairview Baptist Church in Stanford.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Powell Anderson; a son, Dr. Douglas
(Ann) Anderson; daughters, Barbara Lewis and Linda (Mitch) Gray; sister, Ruth
Lyons; and uncle, Richard Otto of Stanford.
A memorial service was held May 17 in Texarkana, Texas.

Annie Hawley Brent, 94,
of Miller Street, Stanford, died Tuesday, May 4 at Golden Living Center.
Born Wednesday, May 26, 1915, in Crab Orchard, she was a daughter of the
late Walter and Margaret Shaw Hawley. She was a homemaker, farmer, quilter,
member of Stanford Church of God and the widow of Ben Brent.
Survivors include a special niece-in-law, Faye Hatfield; a special
great-niece, Debbie Hatfield; nephews, Bill, Hawley and Danny Hawley; and
several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were May 7 at Fox Funeral Home. Burial was in Buffalo
Springs Cemetery.

Born Dec. 10, 1973, he was the son of Lewis and Nancy Carey Brown.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Kristi Stinnett
Brown; two step-sons, Christopher and Zachary Stratton; a step-daughter, Whitney
Smith; and a brother, Douglas Lewis Brown. He was preceded in death by a sister,
Karen Brown.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home with burial
in Maxey Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Monday.
Pallbearers are Johnny, Eddie and Gene Crowe, Adam Brown, Billy Chesteen,
and Junior Webb.

CRAB ORCHARD — Viola Mae Brown, 85, of Cincinnati, formerly of Crab
Orchard, died Friday at Venetian Gardens Nursing Home in Loveland, Ohio.
She was the widow of Woodrow Wilson Brown who preceded her in death on
Nov. 12, 1997. Mae was born in Lincoln County on Sept. 19, 1924. She was the
daughter of the late Russell and Qwentella Smith Watson. Mae was a member of the
Blue Ash Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Conchita Fay (Melvin) Lamb of
Fayetteville, Ohio; a son, Ray (Jerriene) Brown of Burnside; a brother, Leslie
Watson of Crab Orchard; seven grandchildren, Lisa, David, Renee, Randy,
Jennifer, Gary and Jason; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mae was preceded in death by a
son, Lee Brown; and a brother, Orbin Watson.
Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Bro.
Russell Dunaway officiating. Burial is in Mount Zion Church of Christ
Cemetery.

Alma Lee Cress, 76,
of Waynesburg, died Saturday, May 1 at her home.
Born Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1933, in Eubank, she was a daughter of the
late Willis Green and Flossie Irene Austin May.
Alma was an employee of the old Cress General Store, a merchant at
Cowden's MFG, retired from the Waynesburg Area Fire and Rescue Squad after 21
years and served as the fire department secretary, an EMT and dispatcher. She
was a member of Parlor Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed playing the guitar and
singing, cooking for her family, gardening and working with her flowers, playing
cards and making blankets and quilts.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Olen Cress; a son, Ronald
Lee Williams; brothers, Gene and Dale May; and a sister, Charlene Mullins.
Survivors include her children, Richard Lynn (Kim) Williams of McCreary
County, Everett Ray (Nannette) Williams of Waynesburg, Charlotte (Mark) Salyers
of Eubank, Gail (Brent) Ford of Whitley City and Cindy Murphy of Eubank;
brothers, Henry May of Louisville, Gerald (Pearl) May and Jimmy (Marcy) May both
of Waynesburg; sisters, Nevada (Jimmy) Sanders and Betty Jo (Murrell) Martin
both of Eubank and Laverne Barron and Carolyn (Bob) Cress both of Waynesburg; 19
grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were May 4 at Barnett-Demrow Funeral Home with Bro.
Mike Mullins officiating. Burial was in Cress Cemetery.

Charles Ray Davis, 75, of Middletown, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in
Fairfield Township, Ohio. He was born in Crab Orchard, Ky., on Feb. 26, 1924,
and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was an Army veteran of World War
II. Mr. Davis worked at Armco/AK Steel Co. at Open Hearth number 17 and at the
Basic Oxygen Furnace for a total of 37 years. He retired in 1990. He was a
member of University Baptist Church and also belonged to American Legion Post
218. He was the world's greatest dad! He leaves his wife of 21 years, Wilma J.
Davis; three sons, Charles Randall Davis, and his wife, Kenna Lynn, Eric Jason
Hunt and Danny Lee Hunt, and wife, Peggy; five daughters, Rita Kay Turvey, Nancy
Jean Caudill, and husband, Harold Edwin, Robyn Lynn Cole, Jennifer Sue Humphries
and Missy McCall; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Davis.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joseph
Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with Pastor C. Nolan Phillips officiating. Interment
will be at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at
the funeral home.

Born May 23, 1922, in Crab Orchard, Ky., she was the daughter of the
late Wallace and Frances “Jace” Fish Delaney. She was a member of Crab
Orchard Second Christian Church and formerly had attended Crab Orchard First
Baptist Church.
Survivors Include her first cousin, Sam Delaney of Lexington, Ky.;
second cousins, Poitier Delaney, Victor Delaney, Gloria Conner, Janis Fox, Keith
Delaney, Art Delaney, Ann Huffman and Virginia Hewan.
Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at McKnight Funeral
Home Chapel by the Revs. Robert Gates, Oliver Miller and Chuck Vernon. Burial
will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

MORELAND — Barbara Ann Godbey Fair, 60, of Hustonville died Tuesday,
May 25.
Born Oct. 26, 1949, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Virgil
“Doc” Godbey of Casey County and the late Elsie Means Wooten. She worked at
the service desk and money center at Wal~Mart for 19 years. She was a member of
Green River Pentecostal Church.
Other survivors include her husband of 42 years, James Fair Sr. of
Hustonville; a son, James (Amy) Fair of Hustonville; two daughters, Teresa
(Garnett) Owens of McKinney and Misty Brock of Hustonville; seven grandchildren,
Robyn Brock, Lathan Fair, Ann Marie Warner, Gracie Fair and Alexis, Ethan and
Hayley Jones.

Born Monday, Aug. 25, 1930, in Danville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Cora Lee Doan Rambo. She was a homemaker and a member of Stanford Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Adrian W. Gooch.
Survivors include her children, Adrian W. Gooch Jr. and his wife, Marie of Eynon, Pa., Steven W. Gooch and his wife, Liz of Somerset, and Linda S. Fritsch and her husband, Scott of Russellville; and eight grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Faye Belcher
Howell; three brothers, Carlis, Junior and Lee Howell; and one sister, Betty
Fritts.
Survivors include his wife, Ora Popplewell Howell of Russell Springs;

LANCASTER — James H. Morford, 81, of Danville Street died Monday at
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 4, 1928, he was a son of the late James H. and Maude Davis
Morford. He was a former co-owner of Stanford Wood Products and taught school in
one room schools in Lincoln and Bullet counties. James also was an avid Boy
Scout leader for many years. He was a member of Turnersville Christian Church.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Morford (Carol) of Nicholasville; a
sister, Mary Alice Leach (Preston) of Moreland; a sister-in-law, Clara Morford
Perry; and a special friend, Calvin Nevius.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Morford; a sister, Nell Beck;
and special friend, Charlene Ray.

MORELAND — William Dudley “Bud” Pruitt, 81 of Largo, Fla., died
May 09, 2010.
Born Sept. 29, 1928, in West Point, Miss., he was the son of the late
Willie Lee and Velma Vaughan Pruitt. Before leaving Kentucky, he, along with his
father and brother, owned and operated the W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. He was a
member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Largo where he and his wife were
ordained Stephen Ministers. He was a Naval Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Emogene Burge Pruitt; three
sons, Dudley (Denise) Pruitt of Coweta, Okla., Butch (Kathy) Pruitt of Tulsa,
Okla., and Raymond Dirck (Peggy) Pruitt of Clearwater, Fla.; eight
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a
brother, Vaughan Dirck Pruitt.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Westside Community UMC by the Revs.
Donald Scilley and Ken Hughes, with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

STANFORD — William “Paul” Reed, 63, of Science Hill, formerly of
Stanford, died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville
Born March 18, 1947, in Stanford, he was the son of the late William
Daley and Virginia Marie Butt Reed. He graduated from Stanford High School in
1965. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1965 to 1968, including one tour
in Vietnam. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal,
Vietnam Service Medal and was a disabled American veteran. He was employed at
Texas Eastern Transmissions for 18 years and was the owner of Reed’s
Excavating Inc. for 19 years. He was a member of the Lincoln Lodge No. 60,
Scottish Rite 32nd degree, Oleika Shrine and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 269.
He also was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.
Survivors include Jennifer Brenda Reed of Stanford; a sister, Joann
Davis (Raymond) of Waynesburg; a brother, Shelby Reed (Pat) of Stanford; nieces
and nephews, Dennis Davis, Kim May, Jimmy Cox, Duane Cox, Shelby Newland Reed
and Emily Hoover; a special great-niece, Jaiden Hoover; and several great- and
great-great-nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Violet James. He was preceded in
death by a sister, Genevieve Reed.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at Spurlin Funeral

She was born April 6, 1930 in South Fork to the late Pascal and Mary Pulliam. She was the widow of Coakley Murphy, Jr. and Jack Saunders. She was a member of South Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Jackie Murphy (Debbie) of Houston, TX, Jerry Murphy (Linda) of Dayton, OH and Jody Murphy of Jamestown, OH. Jody was her caregiver.; a sister Margaret Dolores Carrier (Edd) of Stanford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, neices and nephews.

STANFORD — Peggy Jo Severance, 72, of Stanford passed away Friday, May
7, 2010, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.
Born on Friday, July 30, 1937, in the Crab Orchard area of Lincoln
County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth Shaw Price. Peggy
worked in retail at Heck’s and then retired from Walmart after 16 years of
service. Peggy attended Beech Grove Baptist Church, and had a love for animals,
Christmastime and children. Peggy Jo wed Bill Severance on Jan. 4, 1958.
Peggy leaves behind her husband, Billy Ray Severance of Stanford; a son,
Billy Ray Severance Jr. and his wife Jane of Lexington; a daughter, Debby Jo
Carter of Harrodsburg; and three grandchildren, Logan Price and Morgan and
Allison Severance.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 11,
2010, at Fox Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Baker officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo
Springs Cemetery.

Kenneth Ray Shelton, 67,
of Crawford Lane, Stanford, died Monday, May 3 at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Monday, March 15, 1943, in Crab Orchard, he was a son of the late
Edward Wayne and Edith Singleton Shelton. Kenneth was a welder, worked at
Cherokee Sales in Stanford, for the Road Department and as a security guard for
Wal-Mart and Fort Logan Hospital. He was a member of Stanford Church of the
Nazarene and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War with the rank of sergeant.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jimbo, Chester and Paul
Shelton; and two sisters, Bernice Hester and Edna Compton.
Survivors include his wife Patsy Hensley Shelton; a son, Kenneth Edward

Kattie Sims, 80, of Nashville, Ind., formerly of Kings Mountain, died
Monday, May 3, at her residence.
Born Saturday, Sept. 28, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and
Lilly Wilson Patterson. Kattie was a dietitian, member of Locust Grove Baptist
Church and the widow of Lilburn Leach Sims.
Survivors include a son, Phillip J. (Judy) Sims; daughters, Brenda K.
(Ron) Nicholson, Charlotte Renee (Keith) Burchfield, Merlin F. (Tom) Shine and
Carolyn K. (Jim) Sears; three brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services were May 7 at Locust Grove Baptist Church. Burial was
in K.P. Hall Cemetery.
Fox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Francis Smith, 72, of Lexington, formerly of Waynesburg, died Saturday, May 15 at St.
Joseph East.
Born Sunday, Feb. 27, 1938, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the
late Sherman and Mary Napier Combs. She was a homemaker, former employee for
Reynold Uniform, loved playing cards and enjoyed the company of her doggie ìTipî.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Keith Smith; brothers,
Clayton and Carlos Combs; and a sister, Leesa Combs.
Survivors include her husband, M.T. Smith of Lexington; sons, Wayne
(companion, Crystal Roberts) Smith of Versailles and Darrell (Shawn) Smith of
Lexington; daughters, Sue (Phil) OíBerry of Folkston, Ga., Kathy (Marion)
Bailey of Lexington and Michelle (Jon) Estes of Lake Helen, Fla.; brothers, Dean
(Johnnie) Combs, Ray Combs and Gene (Linda) Combs all of Lexington, Gary
(Vickie) Combs of Harrodsburg and Doug (Jean) Combs of Waynesburg; sisters, Faye

Jessica Renee Estes and Erica Rose Estes; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were May 18 at Barnett-Demrow Funeral Home in
Waynesburg with Bro. Vola Brown officiating. Burial was in Double Springs
Cemetery.

MORELAND — Mary Katherine Wheeler Springer, 88 of Florida died Feb. 1,
2010.
Born in Hustonville, she was the daughter of the late William and Ethel
Tapscott.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil M. Wheeler, and
her second husband, Raymond Springer.
Survivors include by her daughter, Cecillia K. Wheeler, and son-in-law,
Dennis J. Buckley; a sister, Nell (Frank) Smith; and a brother, John W. (Pat)
Tapscott.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Hustonville
Cemetery by the Rev. Skip Alexander.

JUNCTION CITY — Lina Thomas Steinberger, 92, of Parksville died
Tuesday, May 25, 2010.
Born Oct. 27, 1917, in Moreland, Ky., she was the daughter of E.L. and
Myrtle Hughes Thomas. Lina was the widow of William F. Steinberger Jr. She
retired after 25 years from Palm Beach Co. and was a member of the Amalgamated
Clothing Workers Union of America. She loved to garden and can, and attended
Pleasant Run Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Glen D. (Sally Frances) Steinberger of
Parksville; and a brother, E.L. (Irma) Thomas of Gulfport, Miss. She was
predeceased by two sisters, Katherine Thomas Sheene and Margaret Thomas
O’Brian.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home,
Junction City, officiated by the Rev. Ernest Fields Jr. and Bro. Bobby Abbott.
Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Junction
City.

CRAB ORCHARD — John Will “J.W.” Stevens, 74, of Crab Orchard
passed away Monday, May 24, 2010, at Fort Logan Hospital.
J.W. was the husband of the late Elsie Saylor Stevens who preceded him
in death on Sept. 3, 2008.
Born Jan. 28, 1936, he was the son of the late John Hardy and Sarah Bell
Thomas Stevens. He was a member of Crab Orchard Church of Christ.
Survivors include a sister, Delsie (Shirle) Brown of Crab Orchard; a
special niece, Betty Denney of Crab Orchard; special nephew, Tommy W. Saylor;
and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, J.W. was preceded in death by
brothers, Delbert, Bobby and Jimmy Stevens, and a sister, Irene Powell
Pallbearers include Damon Denney, Anthony Cahill, Tyler Davis, Lester
Hopkins, Randall Brown and Artie Farris Jr. Honorary pallbearer is Shannon
Stevens.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at McKnight
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. J.M. “Mark” Raulerson officiating. Burial will
be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Story,
of Lenoir City, Tenn., died Saturday, May 15.
She was the widow of Willard Story.
Mary was the sister-in-law of Wilma Story Gooch of Stanford, and Darrel,
Glen, and Randall Story all of Waynesburg, and Phyllis Story McMichael of
Louisville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services were May 19 at Eubank Cemetery with Bro. Shelby
Reynolds officiating.
Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home in Waynesburg was in charge of
arrangements.
