Ralph W. Barrett, 79, of Stanford died
Wednesday, March 24th at his home. He was born August 30, 1930 in Hawkins
County, TN to the late Richard Clarence and Mary Alice Jones Barrett. He was a
farmer and a former truck driver for Allen Company. He was an Army veteran, a
member of John Logan Post # 345 American Legion and Blue Lick Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years
Flora VonLinger Barrett of Stanford; two daughters Joan Cornelius and Vicky King
(Steve) both of Stanford; one brother Clarence Barrett (Faye) of Danville; 5
sisters Imogene Dawson and Ann Sears (Don) both of Stanford, Burnadine Chadwick
(Gerald) of Georgia, Wanda Tebo of Florida and Theo Davidson of Tennessee; 4
grandchildren Stacy Godby, Jamie Cornelius, Kacy Mullins Smith and Anthony
Cornelius; 2 step grandsons Jason and Daniel King; 5 great-grandchildren; He was
preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-9,
Funeral Service will be 2 P.M. Friday at Spurlin Funeral Home with Reverend
Wayne Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

— Alma Jean Doss Beatty, 57, of Waynesburg died Saturday.

Oct. 14, 1952, in Stanford, she was a daughter of Lena Virginia Doss of
Waynesburg and the late Matthew E. Doss. She was a former employee of Kroger and
a crossing guard in Jefferson County. She was a member of Fairview Baptist
Church.
Other
survivors include a daughter, Stacy M. May (Christopher) of Waynesburg; a
sister, Marsha Alford of Stanford; two brothers, James Doss of Waynesburg and
Larry “Pup” Doss of Stanford; and a grandson, Sebastian May.
Funeral
service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Spurlin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairview
Cemetery.

Lillie F. Beeson, 76, Crawfordsville,
died 11:55 p.m. Thursday at St. Clare Medical Center.Mrs. Beeson was a
housewife. Her memberships included Garfield Apostolic Christian Church and
formerly attended Freedom Baptist Church.
She was born April 7, 1930, at
Waynesburg, Ky., to Elijah and Myrtle Dowell Gadberry. She attended Lincoln
County Kentucky Schools. She married Henry Ray Addams July 21, 1951. he died
Sept. 19, 1991. She married Richard Beeson Aug. 14, 1995. He survives. Also
surviving are daughters Brenda Clayton (Jerry Rayburn), Garland, Texas, and
Peggy (Daniel) Smith, Crawfordsville; step-daughter Terri (Jr.) Wilson,
Crawfordsville; step-son Timothy Beeson, Crawfordsville; eight grandchildren;
and seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband,
one brother and two sisters. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at
Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Road, Waynetown, with the Rev. Vernon Dowell
officiating. Burial will be at Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lena Blanton, 79, Crawfordsville, died Saturday
morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
Mrs. Blanton was a homemaker for many years and worked for Sommer Metal craft
for more than 20 years.
Her memberships included Friendship Baptist Church.
She was born July 16, 1928, in Lincoln, Ky., to Jim and Bertie Dowell Oaks. She
attended school in Lincoln County. She married Charles W. Blanton Jan. 3, 1946,
in Crab Orchard, Ky. He died Sept. 13, 1987.
Survivors include son Leroy (Rita) Blanton, Waveland; daughters Brenda M.
(Robert) Edwards, Crawfordsville, Judy (Jerry) Stringfield, Crawfordsville, Rosy
(Gary) Hart, Crawfordsville, and Gayle (Randy) Adams, Galveston; son Charles (Devone)
Blanton Jr., New Ross; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She
is preceded in death by her husband; two daughters; one son; two sisters; and
her parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday in Burkhart Funeral Home,
Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Vernon Dowell officiating. Burial will follow at
Oak Hill Cemetery North. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home.

— Lavenia Brewer, 87, of Stanford, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born
Sunday, March 26, 1922, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Mason
and Lula “Kate” Hawley Ballard. She was a seamstress with Goodall/Palm Beach
in Danville for 36 years and a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. Lavenia
loved reading her Bible, sewing and quilting, and she enjoyed her family
gatherings.
She
is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Raymond Brewer.
Survivors
include her son, Kenneth Brewer of Stanford and his wife Sue; her daughters,
Sonja Hasty of McKinney and her husband John, and Delores French of Tucson,
Ariz., and her husband Ralph; seven grandchildren, Mickale Sowers, Michelle
Hefner, Chris French, Ralph French Jr., Rodney Brewer, Gwen Underwood and Bobby
Hasty; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
An
Appreciation of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, at Fox Funeral
Home by Bro. Wayne Stephens, with burial to follow in Buffalo Springs
Cemetery.

501, and the Red Hat Society of Waynesburg.
Survivors include one son, Steve A. Leach and his wife Nancy of Kissimmee,

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Virginia and Verna Bunch;

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Hubert Dowell, 74, of Crawfordsville, Ind., died Sunday at St. Clare Medical Center.
Mr. Dowell enjoyed fishing, working with his hands and building things, including the kitchen cabinets in his own home. He worked for Crawfordsville Casket Co., Sommer Metalcraft, Impex and metal forming in Russellville. He was a member of the New Ross Country Club and attended Friendship Baptist Church.
Born May 23, 1935 in Crab Orchard, Ky., he was the son of Virgil and Ira Padgett Dowell. He attended Chestnut Ridge School in Crab Orchard. He married Rosalie Blanton Dowell on Jan. 16, 1965, in his brother’s home in Crawfordsville. She survives.
Additional survivors include four daughters, Ronda Blanton of Louisville, Ky., Vonda (Brian) Shively, Angie (Brian) Watkins and Susan (David) Chambers, all of Crawfordsville; a brother Robert (Shirley) Dowell of LaPorte, Ind.; grandsons, Carl Woodrum, Tory and Brennan Shively, Dustin Hubert and Brian Watkins; granddaughters, Stephanie (Kyle) VanCleave, Megan and Danielle Chambers; a great-granddaughter, Amy Nicole VanCleave; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and lots of friends. He also has two half-sisters, Debbie (Gary) Symonds and Kathy (Palmer) Rogers, and one half-brother, Mike Dowell, all of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Melissa Oaks and Bertha Smith; and four brothers, Craig, John, Dock and Dan Dowell.

"Ted" Dowell, 73, Darlington, died Friday in his residence. Mr. Dowell
owned Polar Ice Co., Crawfordsville, and retired from Commercial Fitters,
Lebanon. He was affiliated with Garfield Apostolic Church and attended Kentucky
schools.
He
served in the Army during the Korean War. He was born Jan. 27, 1928, at Crab
Orchard, Ky., to Leonard and Mary Oaks Dowell. He married Norma Hutchens on May
31, 1958, at Darlington. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Terri
Sloan, Lebanon, and Tammy Goldsby, Hazel Dowell and Viola Long, all of
Crawfordsville; two brothers, Homer, Crawfordsville, and William, Waynesburg,
Ky.; three sisters, Lucy Denson, Stanford, Ky., and Elsie Moore and Bernice
Britton, both of Waynesburg; and 10 grandchildren. Two daughters and three
brothers are deceased. Funeral services are scheduled 2 p.m. Monday in Burkhart
Funeral Home, 300 S. Grant Ave., Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Jeffery Long

Vernon Eugene Dowell, 66, Crawfordsville, died
approximately 2 p.m. Friday in his residence. Mr. Dowell was a truck driver. He
served in the Marine Corp. and was a 1953 Crawfordsville High School graduate.
He was born Oct. 17, 1937, at Waynesburg, Ky., to Craig and Sarah Bernard
Dowell.
Survivors include a brother, Melvin, Morristown,
Ind.; two sisters, Minnie Watt, Crawfordsville, and Lou Emberton, Rockville; and
a daughter, Laura, Indianapolis. The body was cremated. No services are planned.

for the Lincoln County Senior Citizens. He was a good friend to many and a good
father to his children.

Trimble Gooch. Gooch was a former employee of National Casket Company in
Lancaster.
He
was also preceded in death by brothers, his twin, Ray Gooch and James and Bobby
Gooch; and a sister, Helen Monahan.

Nettie Jones McCormack. She retired as a cafeteria cook from the Danville school
system and also worked in the Danville County Club kitchen. Sarah was a member
of Church of God of America where she was a former choir member.

include her husband, James P. Hamilton Jr. of Danville, whom she wed Oct. 5,
1959; a son, James L. (Terry) Hamilton Sr. of Midway; a daughter, Melanie Lynn
Hamilton of Danville; sisters, Ann (Robert) Gooch of Junction City and Arnice
(Ernest) Gooch of Danville; grandchildren, James L. Hamilton Jr., Thomasina R.

University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was born Tuesday, March 23, 1937
in East Chicago, IN. to the late Edward & Ann Resare Hansen. Bob was a
retired steel worker for LTV Steel, a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, a
former associate with Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home, a Past Master and duel
member of Waynesburg Lodge #328 and Griffith Masonic Lodge F&AM, Scottish
Rite, a lifetime member of DAV, a Kentucky Colonel and an official greeter and
member of Oak Grove #2 Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his love
for children, toys and telling stories.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Linda Rockwell Hansen;
and a sister, Ann Evion.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Slone Hansen of Eubank; a
step-daughter, Donna Kuroski and her husband, Jack of Dallas, NC; two
grandchildren, Rebecca & Michael Harvey; five nieces and many friends.
An Appreciation of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 2nd at Oak Grove
#2 Baptist Church by Bro. Bill Meece. Burial will follow in Double

Hershel
E. Harris, 75, of the Ottenheim Community, passed away on Wednesday, March 10th,
2010 at his home. Born to Melvin Carl & Katie Mae Harris on Tuesday,
November 13th, 1934 in Ottenheim. He married Pansy King on February 21st, 1961.
Hershel was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, raised tobacco, peppers and
canned pickles. He was also a farmer helping farmers all over the Ottenheim
area. He worked at National Casket Factory in Lancaster as Union Steward and
also at Caldwell Stone’s rock quarry in Danville.

Dave “Bill” Hoseclaw, 73, of Kings Mountain, passed away Wednesday, October
7, 2009 at his home. He was a native of Waynesburg, born Sunday, November
10, 1935 to the late Dewey & Edith Petry Hoseclaw. He was a
self-employed truck driver and during his retirement years, loved cutting &
selling wood. Bill will always be remembered for his love of country music
and fishing, especially for bluegill.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hilbert & Brent
Hoseclaw; and two sisters, Norma Freely & Nancy McCracken.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bertha Samel Hoseclaw of Kings

Milton Powell, 88 years, of Fort Myers, FL died on January 27, 2010 at Hope
Hospice, Cape Coral, FL.
He
was born on October 8, 1921 in Stanford, KY a child of Milton and Ila (Newland)
Powell. William lived in Fort Myers since 1995 and previously lived in Dayton,
OH for 50 years. He served in the US Army during WWII and spent 35 years as an
airplane mechanic at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn.
He
was the husband of the late Ruth (Williamson) Powell. He is survived by his
children, Scott M. (Beth) Powell of Vernon, CT, K. Spencer (Jeannie) Brown of
Cincinnati, OH, Judith E. Russell of Clarksville, OH, Nancy I. (Charles) Sanders
of Conover, OH and R. Ellen Johns of Englewood, OH; grandchildren, great

McDowell Regional Medical Center.

A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church.

Simmie
W. Turner, 90, Crawfordsville, died 9:55 p.m. Saturday in Ben Hur Nursing Home.
Mr. Turner had worked in the cut room in Dept. C-A at R.R. Donnelley & Sons
Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1974. He was a civilian cook for the Army during
World War II. He was a member of One Way Pentecostal Apostolic Church, where he
was an elder, and attended Mount Zion schools.
He
was born Aug. 27, 1912, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, to Jim and Madie Dowell
Turner. He married Helen Kirk in 1937 at Indianapolis. She died in 1983. He
married Dama Jo Haltom on Oct. 9, 1983, at Crawfordsville. She survives. Also
surviving are three sons, Wayne, Crawfordsville, James, Atlanta, Ga., and
William, Moscow, Russia; a daughter, Virginia Rommel, Las Vegas, Nev.; three
stepsons, Tom Haltom, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Tim and Dick Haltom, both of
Crawfordsville; two stepdaughters, Kathy Haltom, Crawfordsville, and Vicki
Nichols, Ladoga; 13 grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren. A son, Gene; a brother,
Charles; three sisters, Haley Delk, Rissie Keller and Leona Wilson; and two step
grandchildren are deceased. Funeral services are scheduled 1:30 p.m. Wednesday
in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, with the
Rev. Clarence Lee officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill North Cemetery.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Ryllie "Z'Anne" Vonlinger, 5, of Stanford, died
Wednesday March 10 in Hustonville.
Born
Aug. 15, 2004, in Danville, she was the daughter of Wayne and Amy Downey
Vonlinger of Stanford. She was in the Hustonville Elementary kindergarten class
and attended New Salem Baptist Church.
Other
survivors include a sister, Megan Vonlinger of Junction City; paternal
grandparents, Rollie and Donna McWhorter Vonlinger of Moreland; maternal
grandparents, Rick and Ann Divine Downey of Perryville; maternal great
grandparents, Patsy Downey, Jean Divine and Teddy Divine; uncles, Dwight (Myria)
Vonlinger and Eric (Kim) Downey; aunts, Vivian Eades and Lisa (Parrish) Denny;
cousins, Madeline Vonlinger, Abby and Jared Downey, Morgan Eades and Olivia,
Ellery and Mac Denny.
Visitation

William Watson, 88, of Hustonville, died
Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born
Saturday, April 30, 1921, in Lincoln County, he was a security guard for Packard
in Detroit, Mich., and attended Harmony Baptist Church in Owen County.
Survivors
include his wife, Mary Frances Watson of Hustonville; a step-son, Robert Louis
(Brenda) Riddle of Coeburn, Va.; three grandchildren, Darlene Gill, Tara R.
Brown and Tanna Riddle; six great grandchildren, Bianca, Andrew, Isaiah, Josiah
and Tamil Brown and Taylor N. Nevis; and several cousins.
Funeral
services were Feb. 13, at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford. Burial was in Lancaster
Cemetery.

– Larry Joe Wheeler, age 34, of Hustonville died Tuesday February 9th 2010 in
Lincoln County. Born on Friday, January 23rd, 1976, in Danville, he was the son
of Gerald “Red Dog” Wheeler of New Salem and Tina Rhea of Junction City.
He
worked in the Shipping and Receiving Department at American Greetings where he
was a member of the Safety and Continuous Improvement Teams. He was a 1994
Graduate of Lincoln County High School, served his country in the United States
Air Force and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was also an avid UK
fan, hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents he is survived by two
daughters: Cheyenne and Rayna Wheeler both of Stanford and one sister, Sarah
Benedict of Junction City. Services will be at 1 PM, Friday, February 12th, 2010
at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home, Moreland with Bros. Kerry Jones and Kyle Young
officiating.
Burial
will be in Hustonville Cemetery. Ed Walls, Ronnie Maples, Henry Ewing,
Sherman Owens, James Walker and Mike Goode will serve as pallbearers.

Mae Thompson Wilder, 96 of Stanford, passed away on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
in Danville. Born to the late William Matt & Rhinda Robbins Thompson on
Thursday, January 1st, 1914 in Bell County. Anna was a homemaker and wife.
Anna’s family includes her daughter Evelyn Wilder of Brodhead, KY; a brother
Richard Thompson of Pineville, KY; sisters Leda Orr of Dayton, Ohio, Elsie
Gibbons of Pineville, KY; two grandchildren Hank Wilder and his wife Christena
of Troy, Ohio and Carolyn Wagner and her husband Leo of Beaver Creek, Ohio; Four
Great-Grandchildren and Seven Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Anna was preceded in death her parents, a son William Wilder, a daughter Lorene
Wilder, and three sisters Nellie Thompson, Martha Wesley & Ethel Thompson.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, March 6th, 2010 at
Fox Funeral Home, Stanford with Bro. Steve James officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo
Springs Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 PM until time of service on
