LIBERTY — Ora Alcorn, 97, of Hustonville, died Tuesday.

Born July 19, 1912, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late George and Vivian Carman Sims.

Survivors include four daughters, Josephine Delk of Hustonville, Pauline Smith of McKinney, Wanda Toliver of Columbus, Ohio, and Christine Wallace of Cincinnati; six grandchildren;
eight great- and 10 great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Manford Sims, Lloyd Sims, Earl Sims and Leamon Sims; and a sister, Essie Wilson.

She was preceded in death by a son, George.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bartle Funeral Home.

CRAB ORCHARD — Debora Lynn Anderson, 43, of Stanford, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.

Born on Feb. 24, 1966, she was the daughter of James Dwight and the late Janet Linda Norwalk.

Survivors include three sons, Samuel, Daniel and Shaun Anderson; a daughter, Krystal McClure; a brother, Arlis Brown; three sisters, Jamie Eldridge, Barbara Hopkins and Linda Douglas; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by the Bro. Dan Gutenson.

MORELAND — John Clinton Anderson, 69, of Danville died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.

Born Jan. 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Virgil Anderson and Dorothy Black Foster.

Survivors include a nephew, Billy (Laura) Myers; a niece, Stephanie Myers; and three great nieces and nephews, Landon, Makenna and Joseph. He was preceded in death by two sisters,
Ida Mae Anderson and Sue Myers; and a brother, Virgil Gayle Anderson.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. David Smith. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

LIBERTY — Robert Owen Austin, 66, of Kings Mountain, died Thursday at his residence.

Born April 6, 1943, in Greenwood, Ind., he was the son of the late Elmer and Naomi Napier Austin, and the husband of Shirley Randolph Austin.

Additional survivors include two sons, Michael Wayne Austin and Dustin David Austin; three daughters, Robin Renae Meeks, Rebecca Ann Carrier and Melissa Kaye Shoemaker; eight
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Arnold Austin; and a sister, Renita Gail Roach.

Services are 2 p.m. today at the Corinth First Church of God, with burial in K.P. Hall Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday.

CRAB ORCHARD — Beulah B. Baker Ball, 85, of Crab Orchard, died Friday. She was the daughter of the late James and Josie Wilson Baker.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Ball; her daughter, Linda (Colson) Wilson; two grandchildren, Genia (Mike) Hardwick and Scott (Angel) Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Wade, Erin and
Aidan; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Ella Mae Edwards; and her half-brother, Ernie Baker.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Ball, five brothers and two sisters.

Services are 4 p.m. today at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard, with visitation before the service. Interment: Wilson Cemetery

Albert Bastin, 86, of Stanford, died Sunday, Nov. 15.

A native of Lincoln County, he was born July 18, 1923, to the late Earl Dollie Frances Sloan Bastin. Bastin was a 1942 graduate of Highland High School and a 1952 graduate of
Carson Newman College in Tennessee. He taught in Tennessee and Jefferson, Pulaski and Lincoln County and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a World War II Army veteran decorated with the
America Theater Campaign Medal, Eamet Campaign Medal, two Bronze Service Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Purple Heart and the Victory Medal.

Bastin was also preceded in death by a son, Frank; two brothers, Jim and Vern Bastin; and a sister, Johnetta Bastin.

Survivors include a brother Earl Dean Bastin (Bert) of Burnside; three sisters, Louise Miracle, Peggy Jo (Jim) Board both of Stanford and Tootsie (Paul) Roberts of Windsor; and
several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Nov. 18 at Mt. Moriah Christian Church with Rev. Rob Cox and Jamie Board officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Military honors were given by American
Legion Caswell Saufley Post #18.

Active pallbearers were Bill and Greg Miracle, Eddie Bastin, Jamie and Jeff Board, Rob and Marc Muse, Scott Carpenter, Danny Dale Smith and Gary Bastin.

CRAB ORCHARD — Edward Owen “O.B.” Blevins, 58, of Crab Orchard passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

He was the husband of Gloria Lynn Cummins Blevins, whom he married on Dec. 29, 2001.

Edward was born in Lincoln County on Aug. 30, 1951, to Edward Jackson Blevins and the late Edith Christine Kidd Blevins. He worked as a mechanical contractor for Bob Foster Heating
& Air for 29 years. Edward enjoyed fishing and mechanic work. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Lynn Cummins Blevins; father, Edward Jackson Blevins of Crab Orchard; four daughters, Susan McFerson of Crab Orchard, Melissa and husband Brian Sweet of
Kings Mountain, Candice and husband Timothy Stephens of Liberty, and Christine and husband Ronald Allen of Liberty; three sons, Thomas and wife Melissa Blevins of Waynesburg, Billy Hodge of
McKinney and Russell Hodge of Crab Orchard; four brothers, Randall and wife Carla Blevins of Dodd City, Texas, Arlis Blevins of Brodhead, Jackie Lee and wife Shannon Blevins of Flint, Texas,
and Nathan Lynn Blevins of Waynesburg; a half brother, Robert Wayne Blevins of Louisville; six sisters, Joann and husband Dennis Dillingham, Darlene and husband Benny Brock of Hustonville,
Vera and husband Mike Elam of Crab Orchard, Kay and husband Danny Cole of Hallsville, Texas, Nila and husband Leslie Tucker of Russell Springs, and Glenna and husband
Craig Baugh of Lancaster; and 29 grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, Edward was preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan and Ira Earl Blevins; and two grandchildren, Alexis Grace and Timothy Wayne Stephens Jr.

Pallbearers include Billy and Russell Hodge, Lee, Arlis and Randall Blevins, and Danny Cummins. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Foster Sr., Paul Herald, Mike Elam, Bob Foster Jr.,
Ronnie Kidd, John Moore and Gary Wigt.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ron Meece officiating. Burial is in Poplar Grove Cemetery.

Rovena Johnson Brummett, 77, of Crab Orchard, died Saturday, Dec. 12, at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.

A native of Crab Orchard, she was born April 14, 1932, to the late William Patrick Hensley and Clara Ann Johnson Hensley. She was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church, co-owner of
Brummettís Apple House and enjoyed crocheting and painting.

She was also preceded in death by three small children, Sue, Ginger and Pansy; three grandchildren; and two brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Francis Brummett of Crab Orchard; eight children, Danny (Kay) Brummett, Ricky Lane (Judy) Brummett, Timothy Clay (Judy) Brummett and Gary Gordon (Lori)
Brummett all of Crab Orchard, Francis Wayne Brummett (fiancée, Mary Thorpe) of Addsyton, Ohio, Kathy Widmeyer (fiancé, Jimmy Emerson) of Kings Mountain, Jennifer (Bill) Lewis of Somerset and
Karen (Garry) Wheeldon of Bowling Green; 30 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; one brother, James (Carroll) Hensley of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; and many nieces,

STANFORD — Robert Charles Bryan, 87, of Lexington died Saturday, Nov. 28 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born March 28, 1922, in Vernon, N.Y., he was a son of the late William B. and Ruth Lyon Bryan. He was a member of Crestwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.)

He graduated from Stanford High School in 1940. In 1943, he entered World War II in the Army Air Corps, became a pilot and served in the European Theater, Market Gardens
Campaign, flying C-47 aircraft. He obtained his commercial pilot license and was discharged in December 1945. He completed a B.S. degree in agriculture at University of Kentucky in
1948. From 1952-55, he served in the U.S. Air Force as pilot and operations officer at Stewart Air Force base in New York, and later as B-26 pilot in Korea.

He was employed by USDA Soil Conservation Service as soil scientist, agricultural economist and various management positions.

He was chief of the procurement management branch of the Soil Conservation Service in Washington, D.C., where he retired in 1977.

He was employed by Kentucky Land Improvement Contractors of America as executive secretary of the Kentucky chapter from 1977-1982. He also owned a dairy farm in Lincoln
County from 1951-60, was president and major stockholder of family-owned businesses in Lexington, Ky., and Greenville, Miss., from 1961-88. He was the founder of the Lincoln
County Educational Fund. During the life of the fund, 75 students have received awards. 26 have graduated and 20 are attending college. He was a member of Caswell Saufley Post 18, American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betsy Pettus Bradshaw Bryan of Lexington; three daughters, Rebecca Bryan Crunk of Fairfax, Va., Margaret Bryan Champion (Paul) of Greencastle,
 Ind., and Marie Bryan Weaver (Kenny) of Elizabethtown, Ky.; a sister, Bettie Marie Pence of Stanford; five grandchildren, Georgia Carol Holko, James Robert Champion, Elizabeth Michelle
Boucher, John Christopher Weaver and Andrea Elizabeth Weaver; and a great-grandson, Charles Michael Boucher. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Bell Bryan Jr.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Crestwood Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) ministers will officiate. Military rites will be presented by Caswell Saufley Post 18, American Legion.

Oritha Beatrice Bunch, 90, of Waynesburg died Wednesday at her home. She was born July 4, 1919 in Lincoln County to the late Louis and Celia Routen Mason. She was a homemaker
and a member of Mt. Moriah Christian Church. Oritha loved her flowers, gardening, yard sales, making quilts; she always had a Christmas gift for everyone; she never forgot a birthday and honored them
with cards; she was a wonderful Christian lady who was loved dearly by all; she hosted annual Christmas Eve gatherings and any other special family events.

Survivors include 4 sons Carl Bunch, Jr. (Shirley), Bill Bunch (Jean), James Bunch (Harlene) and Joe Bunch; a daughter Violet Gourley (Harold) all of Waynesburg; a brother Millard Mason of Waynesburg
and a sister Elsie Terry of Stanford; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; she was preceded in death by her husband Carl Bunch, a daughter Rosetta Holtzclaw and a
great granddaughter Heather Holtzclaw.

Visitation will be Sunday 5-8 at Mt. Moriah Christian Church, Funeral Service will be 1 PM Monday at the Church. Reverend Rob Cox and Bill Gooch will be officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Born May 2, 1919, in Waynesburg, he was a son of the late Ward and Sarah Smith Bunch. He was a retired electrician. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his sister, Christine Bunch; nephews, Steve Leach and Ken Bunch; and four great-nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home.

Lillian Jane Cash, 94, of Danville died Friday, Dec, 4.

A native of Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, she was born May 15, 1915, to the late Henry and Louanna Neal. She taught oil painting and quilting, was Mrs. Boyle County, Mrs. Kentucky Senior and
received the Age of Elegance Award in the Mrs. USA Senior Pageant. She was proudest of teaching Sunday school for 67 years was married to the late John Kermit Cash.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Cash; and a grandson, Jeremy Prichard.

Survivors include a son, Eugene (Martha) Cash; a daughter, Judith (Clarence) Adams; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and 15 great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Dec. 8 at the First Church of God on the Danville By-Pass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Church of God Building Fund, 3220 Harrodsburg Rd, Danville, KY 40422 or to Heritage Hospice.

STANFORD — Blanche Chadwell, 91, of Danville died Thursday in Danville.

Born June 27, 1918, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Everett and Gletha Bastin King. She was the widow of Bill Chadwell. She worked at Brown and Williamson Co. in Louisville
and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Steven Claypool and Lisa Halouma, both of Louisville; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lonnie King of Seattle, Wash.
She was preceded in death by a son, Everett Claypool; three brothers; and a sister.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Baptist Church with Pastor Lester Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Johnny W. Coffman, 73, of McKinney died Saturday at his home. He was born January 1, 1936 in Lincoln County to the late Thelmur and Martha Austin Coffman. He was a retired truck driver from
Frito Lay after 27 years and was a member of Green River Pentecostal Church. He was a past member of The Wagon Masters Club in London, KY.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Peggy Smith Coffman of McKinney; 3 children Sherry McGuffey (Mike) of Stanford, Denise Pike (David) of Stanford and Winfred Coffman (Cindy) of McKinney;
A sister Elizabeth Carrier of McKinney; 4 grandchildren Jonathan McWhorter (Kristen), Kristen Grant, Matthew Coffman and Isaac Coffman; he was preceded in death by a brother Orville Kenneth

CRAB ORCHARD — Manford Harold Crank Jr., 37, of Somerset, Ky., formerly of Crab Orchard, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Ky. 39 south of Crab Orchard.

Born March 22, 1972, in Garrard County, he was the son of Harold (Georgia Ann) Crank Sr. and Judy Lee Powers Gwyn, both of Crab Orchard. He was a member of Enterprize Baptist Church in
Somerset and a diesel mechanic for Weddle Enterprises in Somerset.

Other survivors Include a brother, Shaun T. Crank of Somerset; two sisters, Tonya Lea Volk and Rachel Michelle Volk, both of Crab Orchard; several aunts, uncles and a host of cousins.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Ron Harp and Bro. Jimmy McKinney. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry and Lonnie Dowell, David and Homer Price, Darrell Meece and Sherrill Sims.

Dylan Tyler Crumpton, 4, of Hustonville, formerly of Putnam County, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 2 due to an automobile accident.

Born Feb. 11, 2005, he was the son of Kenneth David Crumpton, Jr. and the late Chastity Dawn Hanks, who was in the same accident.

Survivors include his step-father, Mitchell Lanigan of Hustonville; grandparents, Joseph Hanks, Sherry Reddish, Kenneth David Crumpton and Roy Lanigan; one great, great grandparent,
Atchie Pons; a brother, Kameron Crumpton; half-sisters, Keira Lynn Lanigan and Raven Crumpton; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were Dec. 7 at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Florida.

CRAB ORCHARD — Betty Jean Doss, 59, of Waynesburg, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Hospital in Danville. She was the wife of Rodney Joe Doss of Waynesburg, whom she married on Nov. 3, 1967, in Pulaski County.

Betty was born in Lincoln County on July 29, 1950, to the late Ulan "Dude" and Margaret Buchanan Siler. She was a former employee of Deco Art in Stanford and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include her daughter, Tamera Jo (David) Southerland of Stanford; her son, Jamie Ernest Doss of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Robert Siler of Waynesburg and Donnie (Brenda) Siler of
Stanford; three sisters, Trish Hester of West Liberty, Melinda (Stephen) Sebastian of Waynesburg and Vickie (Bobby) Smith of Brodhead; one grandson, Dalton Ray Southerland; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at McKnight Funeral Home, with Bro. John Baker officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

STANFORD — Joan Embry, 81, of Danville, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Carlisle, Nicholas County, KY.  Later the family moved to Stanford and she graduated from Stanford High School.

She attended Centre College and graduated from Transylvania University. She was the daughter of the late Joel Thomas Embry and Elizabeth Harper Embry.

She taught Sunday School at Stanford Presbyterian Church and she was a gifted organist for many years there. She served both as an elder and a deacon, and she was the historian of the church. She was a faithful and a regular visitor in the local nursing homes. Joan was a teacher at Kentucky School for the Deaf and later taught and was librarian at Florida School for the Deaf.

Survivors include her cousins LuAnn Davis Harris, Joel W. Embry, Harvey Embry and Lucy Embry; and her “family” — Kathy LaGro and her family, Barry Helm and Jeffrey Helm.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford with Rev. Jim Erwin officiating.

She was a graduate of Boyle County High School.

Clara was born in Crab Orchard on May 27, 1912 to the late Harvey and Mamey (Adams ) Griffin. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Alfreda Zackery of Taylorville, Ill., and Edith (Bill) Zwahlen and Betty (Anton) Osterman, both of Waynesburg; two sons, Corsa Ray (Wilma Mae) Harris of Ocala, Fla., and Earl (Deva) Harris of Stanford; a half brother, Robert Hubbard of Peoria, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A native of Waynesburg, she was born Tuesday, May 10, 1932, to the late Joda Smallwood, Sr. and Mabel Moore Smallwood. She was a military wife for 26 years, enjoyed fishing, playing penny-ante poker and was a champion bowler in San Antonio, Texas. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey W. Howard; and two brothers Joda Bert Smallwood, Jr. and Billy Joe Smallwood.

Survivors include her husband, James M. Howard of Somerset; a son, Mark S. (Millie) Howard of Ashburn, Va.; a daughter, Denise A. (Vince) Troxell of Somerset; four grandchildren, Matthew D. She was the widow of Burt O. Jacobs, who preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1997.

Loretta was born in Crab Orchard on July 23, 1921, and was the daughter of the late A.J. Sr. and Salena Bailey. She was a retired teacher at Crab Orchard Elementary for more than 30 years. She was a Sunday School Treasurer at Crab Orchard Baptist Church. She was former owner of Bailey Department Store.

Loretta is survived by a daughter, Natalie (Ted) Monroe of Danville; a brother, Bill (Louise) Bailey of Titusville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Emily (Ken) Bates, Theo Monroe, Joe (Leslie) Monroe and James (Monica) Monroe; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three nephews, Bob, Billy and Jim Bailey; and a niece, Jean Turner.

A native of Lincoln County, he was born Sept. 15, 1944, to the late Lloyd Beckham Miracle and Margaret Osbourne Miracle. He was retired from the Army with 20 years of service, a member of the National Rifle Association and a lifetime member of the North American Hunt Club.

Born Dec. 25, 1944, in Crab Orchard, Ky., he was the son of the late Robert and Stella Mae Spivey Newcomb. He was a United States Army veteran.

Newcomb of Moreland, Ky., Bobby, Benny and Donnie Newcomb, all of Indianapolis, and Ronnie Newcomb of Stanford, Ky.; sisters, Dorothy Williams of Hamilton, Ohio, Lois C. Anderson of Danville, Ky., Virginia I. Kelly and Bessie J. Carter, both of Indianapolis, Georgia E. Coffee of Crab Orchard, Ky., and Euncie J. Frost of Coverdale, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded In death by a daughter, Heather Rachelle Newcomb; a brother, David Newcomb; and sisters, Betty and Sherry.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery by Benny Newcomb and Bro. Melvin Scisson.

Louise Hoskins Spivey Pospisil, 87, of Brodhead, died Sunday, Dec. 6 at her home.

A native of Manchester, she was born Oct. 19, 1922, to the late Bev and Mary Langham Hoskins. She was of the Baptist faith and the widow of Henry Spivey and Edward Pospisil.

She was also preceded in death by a son, George Spivey; two grandchildren, Steven Carter Spivey and Lisa Gail Spivey; one great grandchild, Matthew Spivey; three brothers, Elige, Hubert and Buster Hoskins; and four sisters, Ruby Swikoski, Henrietta Hoskins Hornsby, Margie Davis and Eva Cunningham.

Survivors include two children, Charles "Chuck" (Katy) Spivey of Indianapolis, Ind. and Kay (Jerry Smith) Shelton of Crab Orchard; sisters Juanita (Curtis) Gordon and Lori Stanley of New Albany, Ind., and Sarah Rost of St. Cloud, Fla.; brothers, Curt (Miley) Hoskins of New Albany, Ind., and Lawrence Doc Hoskins of Brodhead; six grandchildren, Jimmy Dale (Dee Dee) Spivey, George Spivey, Tammy Spivey, Charles ìChuckî (Jenny) Spivey, Kevin (Tammy) Shelton and Monte Shelton; 11 great grandchildren; special caretakers, Irene Kidwell, Donna Bussell and Johnnie Lou Adams; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jane Harris Saufley, 72, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 7 in Lexington.

Born Jan. 10, 1937, in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late James C. Harris and Eleanor Campbell Harris.

She was a member of the Stanford Christian Church, a graduate of Stanford High School in 1955 and a graduate of the University of Kentucky where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and awarded the Kappa Alpha fraternity rose. In later years, she was instrumental in forming the charter chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta at Centre College and served as an advisor for the chapter. She taught for many years with the Lincoln County Board of Education, worked with Century 21 Wilson Realty and Auction for 23 years and was a member of Central Kentucky Board of Realtors, Kentucky Association of Realtors and National Association of Realtors. She was a charter member of the Herrington Lake Yacht Club, served as Fleet Captain for two years, remained active on the Social Committee and was a member of the Herrington Lake Conservation League. She was also a former member of the Kentucky Walking Horse Association.

Survivors include her daughter, Lee Saufley (Hunter) Phillips; grandson, Thomas Caswell Saufley Phillips; two sisters, Linda Harris Best and Martha Ann Bastin; one brother, James R. Harris; many nieces and nephews; and her loving devoted 4-legged companions, Hampton and Choco.

Funeral services were Nov. 10 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral in Danville with Dr. Jim Baughman and Dr. Jerry Shepard officiating. Burial was held privately.

STANFORD — Nolan “Bud” Scott, 75, of Stanford died Sunday at UK Hospital in Lexington.

He was born July 1, 1934, in Rockcastle County to the late Oscar and Verna Cummins Scott. He was a lifelong farmer and retired from Corning Glass and Phillips Lighting after 40 years of employment. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Reynolds Scott; a son, Jeff (Kathy) Scott of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Cindy (Rod) Bates and Kim (George) Elliott both of Stanford; six sisters, Lucille (Earl) Adams and Louise (Harold) Reynolds, both of Danville, Ruth Scott, Velda Herald and Jenny (Fred) Pruitt all of Fairfield, Ohio, and Dorothy (Ed) Thacker of Fairview, Texas; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Scott, and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Murphy.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday the funeral home with the Rev. Vola Brown officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Catherine Magee Payne Shelton, 89, of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brodhead.

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Aug. 24, 1920, to the late John and Cynthia Simpson Payne. She was a homemaker, member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church and the widow of James "Jim" Shelton.

She was also preceded in death by a son, George (Louise) Shelton; daughter, Betty (Jimmy) Wilburn; son-in-law, Truman Owens; daughter-in-law, Joetta A. Shelton; sisters, Grace Baker, Ruby Smith and Beatrice Pitzer; brother, David Payne; grandsons, Jackie and Bobby Owens; and great granddaughter, Clara Renee Carpenter.

Survivors include 11 children, Ruby Owens, Elizabeth "Liz" (Gene) Manning, Dale (Joe) Julian, Mary (Glenn) Smith, William "Bill" (Carolyn) Shelton, Ronald Ray (Stella) Shelton, Tea Shelton, John (Flonnie) Shelton, Truman (Lana) Shelton, David (Velma) Shelton and Eddie (Sally) Shelton; 22 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 12 great, great grandchildren.

CRAB ORCHARD — Lamon Stafford Skeen, 62, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Ky. He was the husband of Beulah Noakes Skeen, whom he married Feb. 6, 1993.

Born July 17, 1947, in Hendersonville, N.C., he was the son of the late Andy Howard and Ida Savannah Webb Skeen. He was a retired paint and auto body mechanic.

Survivors Include his wife, Beulah Noakes Skeen; four stepchildren, Gregory (Lisa) Noakes of Pembrook, Ga., Timothy (Jana) Noakes of Waynesburg, Ky., Steven (Allison) Noakes of Savannah, Ga., and Rodney (Teresa) Noakes of Waynesburg, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Yvonne (Michael) Matthews of Hendersonville, N.C.; a brother, Curtis James Skeen; a sister, Margie Marie Jones; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Chase Noakes.

Donald H. Weiant, 75, of Junction City died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.

Born March 24, 1934 in Blairistown, N.J., he was the son of the late Fred and Edith Drake Weiant. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and a volunteer firefighter for the Junction City and Boyle County fire departments.

Survivors include his wife, June Weiant; seven daughters, Donna Weiant of Berea, Debbie (Jim) Paul of Junction City, Mary Ann (Randy) May of Lancaster, Robin (Mark) Lambert of Junction City, Patty (Dave) Baudendistel of Junction City, Sandy (Lonnie) Hacker of Harrodsburg and Terri (William Johnson) Weiant of Junction City; two half-sisters, Mildred Kays of Nazareth, Pa., and Carolyn Hunt of Oxford, N.J.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Pauline Woods, 80, of Danville, died Thursday, Nov.19, 2009, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Thursday, Dec. 6, 1928, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Egbert and Angel “Agnes” Floyd VanHook. She was the widow of Oscar Lee Woods. Mrs. Woods was a member of Stanford Church of God and enjoyed crocheting and flowers.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph Woods of Danville and Gary (Julie) Woods of Nicholasville; a daughter, Judy Ann Burchett of Springfield; a brother, E. J. (Lois) VanHook of Danville; three sisters, Katie (Bill) Shelton of Owensboro, Effie (Bob) Young of Astatula, Fla., and Martha Harville of Groveland, Fla.; four grandchildren, Gary Glen Woods, Ralph Woods Jr., Beth Woods and Anna Woods; and four great-grandchildren, Gary Glen Jr., Selena, Antonio and Cecilia.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Bradley Earl VanHook; a daughter-in-law, Cathi Woods; and a son-in-law, Benny Burchett.

An Appreciation of Life service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Henry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Charles Wayne Wren, 59, of Lexington, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Saturday, Nov. 21 at his home.

A native of Calhoun, Ga., he was born July 29, 1950, the son of Gladys (C. W.) Brock of Crab Orchard and the late Charles William Wren. He was a 1969 graduate of Crab Orchard High School and from Campbellsville University. He taught school in Kentucky and Tennessee and worked as an interior designer and a real estate agent in New Orleans, La.

Other survivors include his former wife, Virginia Smith of Liberty; a son, Shane (Lisa) Wren; four grandchildren, Taylor, Collin, Conner and Mackenzie all of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Sharlotte (Ernie) Bowling of Brodhead, Velma (David) Shelton and Melissa Brock all of Crab Orchard; one brother, Joe (Regina) Wren of Crab Orchard; seven nieces and four nephews.

A private family memorial service was held on Nov. 30.

A special memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Broughtontown Community Center for all family and friends.

STANFORD — Luther E. Yocum, 69, of Waynesburg died Wednesday at his home.

Born Aug. 16, 1940, in Lincoln County, he was a son of Mabel Elizabeth Naylor Yocum of Stanford and the late Luther B. Yocum. He was retired from the Lincoln County road department.
