STANFORD - Inez Bigelow, 90, of Stanford died
Saturday at Golden Living Center.
Born Oct. 16, 1917, in Nerstrand, Minn., she was a
daughter of the late Ludvig K. Lee and Betsy Marie Arnegaard.
She was a nurse and a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include her friend and caregiver, Marlene
Locke of Waynesburg.
A private service is planned. Spurlin Funeral Home is
in charge of arrangements.

STANFORD - Leroy Gooch Boone Sr., 70, of Stanford
died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at his home. Giving his life to the Lord at age 11,
he was first and foremost a Christian, a loving husband and father.
Born April 19, 1937, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was
the son of the late Roy F. and Maggie Gooch Boone. He was owner and operator of
Boone's Stanford Hardware for 30 years and past co-owner and operator of Boone's
Feed Store from 1942 to 1979. He was a member of Stanford Christian Church,
choir director, elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a former member and
trombone player of the FFA National Band, Stanford City Council, Chamber of
Commerce and honoree of Leroy Gooch Boone Sr. Day, presented by the City of
Stanford on Saturday, July 14, 2007, which recognized him for his lifelong
contribution given to the City of Stanford and Stanford Christian Church. The
honor recognized Boone and his family for the part they played in the economic
stability of the city with Boone's Feed Store and Boone's Hardware.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy Smith
Boone of Stanford; a son, Leroy Gooch Boone Jr. (Patricia) of Stanford; two
grandchildren, Christopher and Natalie; and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by a sister, Sue Boone Gander.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin
Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be the Revs: Richard Reed and Jerry
Browning. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Casketbearers will be Roy Gander, Julian Gander, Mike
Smith, Greg Smith, Roy Smith, Todd Smith, Tim Smith and Dr. Rod Bates. Honorary
bearers will be Frank Lett, Jim Ray, Greg Oaks, Dr. Eric King, Mike Taylor,
Gregg Baird, Byron Crawford, Tommy Sudduth, Dr. Shea Lair, Tim Lair, Paul Long,
Tom Teater, Mike Bastin and elders and deacons of Stanford Christian Church.

Stanford died Monday.
Born Sept. 10, 1922, in Kingsport, Tenn., she was the
daughter of the late Y.J. and Martha McLoen Hayes. She was the widow of Robert
Bowen. She was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church.
Survivors include, sons; Elmer L.Bowen, Robert L.
Bowen, Dennis Bowen, Fred W. Bowen, Curtis Bowen, Ricky Bowen, and daughters;
Lula Mae Bowen, Loudema Butler, Shirley Johnson, Gertrude May, Nan Dye, Judy

STANFORD - Allen Burnside, 89, of Lancaster Street
died Saturday.
Born Oct. 26, 1917, in Lincoln County, he was a son
of the late Mike and Viola Kincaid Burnside. He was a World War II Army veteran,
who served under General George Patton and received a purple heart. He was a
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Stanford Christian Church.
Survivors include a sister, Verna Ray of Lancaster;
and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral
Home by the Rev. Richard Reed. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Paul Rodney Chadwell, 64, died Thursday, Jan. 31 in Savannah, Ga.
A native of Stanford, he was a son of the late Duff Eugene and Mabel Mae Mullins Chadwell. He was a 1961 graduate of Montgomery County High School in Mt. Sterling, a 1971 graduate of the University of Kentucky, a Navy veteran having served 1961 to 1965, a retired selfemployed cotton commodity broker, and a former member of the New York Cotton Exchange, 1984-1987.
He also served on the Board of Directors of the New York Stock Exchange in 1987, served with Dean Witter Reynolds as vice president of the Commodities Department Southeastern Division from 1977 through 1988 where he was honored as the top commodity broker for the entire United States, was owner of Chadwell Cotton Company from 1995-2005, member of St. James Catholic Church and The Landings Club at Skidaway Island and former member of The Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Neale Chadwell of Savannah, Ga.; daughters, Michelle (David) Bjork of Holland, Mich., Diana (Matthew) Brown of Somerset, N. J., and Leslie (Christopher) Moorman of Raleigh, N. C.; sons, Bryan (Lindsey) Chadwell of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., James (Jenny) Chadwell of Valley, Ala., Duff (Jordan) Chadwell of Atlanta, Ga., and Dane (Sunny) Chadwell of Savannah, Ga.; brothers, William L. Wednesday.
Born Dec. 6, 1926, in Paintsville, Ky., he was the
son of the late Sanford and Maude Burton Chandler. He was an Army Air Corps
veteran, a farmer and a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Chandler of
Stanford; a son, Gary W. (Sandy) Chandler of Fayetteville, N.C.; two stepsons,
Gary (Nancy) Whitworth of Texas and Michael Whitworth of Taylorsville; a

Bennie Ray Crawford, 54, of San Diego, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 28, in San Diego, Calif.
A native of Lincoln County, he was born July 3, 1953 to the late Bennie and Rosa Woodall Crawford. He was employed by the National City Policy Department.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Dwight Crawford.
Survivors include his wife, Adele Otto Crawford of San Diego, Calif.; one son, Jonathon Chase Crawford of San Diego, Calif; three sisters, Gayle Saylor Root of Lexington and Ruby Adams and Sue Upshaw, both of Keller, Texas; 12 nieces; nine nephews; 15 great nieces; 10 great nephews; and 2 great, great nephews.
A memorial service was held Feb. 1 at the Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, Calif.

Born July 16, 1924, in Lincoln County, she was a
daughter of the late Leonard and Mary E. Oaks Dowell. She loved her family and
was a homemaker, enjoyed making quilts and crafts, gardening and selling her
produce. She was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Charlie
Denson of Stanford; five sons, Hank Ruth of Crab Orchard, and Charles Joe
Denson, Harold Denson, Eugene Denson and Ricky Denson, all of Stanford; four
daughters, Loretta Edwards, Patsy Annie Hines and Janie Taylor, all of Stanford,
and Gladys Smith of Waynesburg; two sisters, Bernice Britton and Elsie Moore,
both of Waynesburg; 36 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 35
great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-granchildren. She was preceded in
death by three sons, James, Freddie "Poncho" and Mark Denson; a
grandson, Mark Greene; and six brothers.

Gary Kenneth Douglas, Sr., 67, of Stanford, died Tuesday, Dec. 25 at his home.
A native of Lincoln County, he was born Dec. 5, 1940 to the late Elwanda Reece Gourley and the late Lonzo Douglas. He was a truck driver for over 50 years and a member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his step father, Connie Gourley.
Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey Dwayne Douglas, Gary K. Kenny Douglas, Jr., both of Stanford, and Michael Dale Douglas of Lancaster; two daughters, Donna Douglas of Berea and Wanda Renee Roberts of McKinney; two brothers, Gerald Douglas of Highland and Lonnie Dale Douglas of Ohio; a sister, Brenda Merchant of Bagdad; six grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Dec. 29 at the
Pleasant View Baptist Church with Revs: Vola Brown, Todd Merchant, and Aaron

David O. Foley, 57, of Griffin Lane, Eubank, died Thursday, January 10, at his residence.
A native of Lincoln County, he was born March 6, 1950 to the late Leroy and Maudie Salyers Foley. He was an auto body repairman for Foley's Body Shop, a maintenance man for Wal-Mart in Stanford, of the Pentecostal faith, and a 24-year Army veteran, having served during Desert Storm in 1991 and 1992, and a MP in the Army and a chemical engineer.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Elvin Foley; and two sisters, Mary Ester Foley and Eva Odell Foley.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Salyers Foley of Eubank; two sons, Stephen (Ronetta) Foley and Justin Foley, both of Eubank; one step son, Heney Bryant of Eubank; three step daughters, Sheila Bryant of Somerset, Shirley Bryant of Waynesburg, and Faye (Bob) Weddle of Liberty; two brothers, Carmon (Anita) Foley of Waynesburg and Wayne Foley of Kings Mountain; four sisters, Mildred (Danny) Snow of Moreland, Margaret (Billy) Meeks of Auburndale, Fla., Brenda (Herbie) Martin of Eubank, and Betty (Larry) Trowbridge of Somerset; two granddaughters, Alissa and Amber Foley; one grandson, Kyle Foley; eight step grandchildren; and five step greatgrandchildren.

Orchard died Thursday at his home. He was the widower of Grace (Lawson) Garner.
Born March 6, 1930, in Stanford, he was the son of
Ella (Durham) Garner and the late Leroy Garner. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Drenda Moerbe of Crab
Orchard; a son, Pete Garner of Stanford, a brother, John S. Garner of Crab
Orchard, three sisters; Peggy Hopper of Crab Orchard, Kay Brown of South
Carolina and Barbara Reynolds of Danville; four grandchildren, Benjamin and
Chadwick Farrer, and Ashley and Zachary Moerbe; and five great-grandchildren.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Roy Garner; and his
brother, Lester Ray Garner.

STANFORD - Herbert Gooch, 84, of Kings Mountain died
Saturday at his home.
Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Lincoln County, he was a son of
the late Luther and Ora Ann Martin Gooch.
He was a farmer and retired from L&N Railroad, an
avid fox hunter and descendant of the first pioneers from Virginia to come to
Kentucky.
Survivors include two daughters, Gainelle Sue Gooch
and Maisie Jewell Napier, both of Kings Mountain; a son, Jeffrey Mel Gooch of
Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee McKee Gooch;
and a son, Terry Wayne Gooch.

Mildred H. (Midge) Gooch, 78, of the Boneyville community of Stanford, died Friday, January 18.
She was born April 25, 1929 to the late Hugh and Betty Helm. She accepted Christ at an early age under the Rev. Henry T. Garth. She served on the Usher board and in the kitchen and attended Sunday school in her early days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Gooch; two brothers, Harrison and Joe Will Helm; three sisters, Clara Helm, Patty J. Smallwood and Roberta Bright; and one special nephew, Sylvester Helm.
Survivors include a sister, Viola Farmer of Ohio; special nephew, Hubert L. Helm of Stanford; special nieces, Pamela Norman Shannon of Ohio, and Chanell Helm of North Carolina; brother-in-laws, J.D. Gooch, Albert (Wilma) Gooch, Robert (Janie) Gooch, Ernest (Irene) Gooch and Clarence (Sue) Gooch; sister-in-laws, Pauline (Charles) Hunn and Mary V. daughter of the late Lonnie and Gertrude Taylor Adington, a homemaker and a
member of the Grace Fellowship Church.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Donald
Haggard of Waynesburg; a son, Steve (Diane) Haggard of Waynesburg; three
daughters, Pam (Larry) Gabhart of Harrodsburg, Donna (Sonny) Spoonamore of
Stanford and Teresa "Cricket" (Scott) Carrier of Waynesburg; two

formerly of Crab Orchard, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at her residence. She was
the widow of Little Hale.
Born Nov. 25, 1928, in Crab Orchard, Ky., she was the
daughter of the late Jenny Rogers and Earl C. Baker Sr. She was a graduate of
Crab Orchard High School and member of Calvary Baptist Church, formerly Crab
Orchard Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Bill (Cyndi) Hale of
Huntsville, Ala.; a daughter, Mindy (Brian) Baschnagel of Glenview, Ill.;
grandchildren, Mallory, Allie and Luke Baschnagel; and a brother, Roger K.
Baker. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a
brother, E.C. Baker Jr.; and five sisters, Elaine Young, Mary Elizabeth Baker,

formerly of Lincoln County, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008. He was the husband of
Anna Liene Harness Leford, whom he married Aug. 4, 1956.
He was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Lincoln County, the son
of the late Willard Sr. and Annie Hiatt Ledford. He was a retired employee of
Smirfitt Diamond Paper Co. in Cincinnati. He was a veteran of the United States
Army.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Anna Liene; a
daughter, Vicki Lynn (Greg) Williamson of Blue Ash, Ohio; two grandchildren,
Meggie Ann and Brooke Lynn Williamson of Blue Ash; a sister, Virginia (Russell)
Godbey of Crab Orchard; and two brothers, Jerry and Eugene Ledford of Stanford.

of Foster Ruckel. She was a secretary at Yeary Insurance Agency and later at
Hart Insurance Agency. She was a member of Stanford Baptist Church and very
active with church activities for more than 30 years. She also attended Polly
Ann Baptist Church. She was a 1950 graduate of Waynesburg High School.

Hospital.
Born Dec. 18, 1946, in Danville, he was the son of
Ella Mae Divine Selby of Versailles, and the late William Ray Selby Sr.,
formerly of Danville. He was a conductor and brakeman for Norfolk Southern
Railroad for 20 years. He was a member of Indian Hills Christian Church and a
1964 Danville High School graduate. He was a lifetime member of Harvey Maguire
Lodge, and a member of Franklin Lodge. He was a volunteer for a nature center in
Fort Myers and a volunteer for Citizens on Patrol.

WAYNESBURG - Nora Elizabeth Spencer Sims, 76, of Summerville, Ga.,
formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008. She was the daughter
of the late Andy and Roxie Campbell Spencer.
She was the widow of Charles Sims and a tile grader at Cambridge Tile Co.
in Cincinnati.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Baggett and her husband Ed of
Summerville, Ga.; a brother, Morgan Spencer of Eubank; a sister, Reva Cress of
Eubank; a grandson, Travis Hunter and his wife Julie of Hartsville, Ky.; a
great-grandson, Ryan Hunter of Hartsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral
Home with Bro. Ben Curtis. Burial will follow in Gooch Cemetery.

WAYNESBURG - Elzie Sluder, 96, of Waynesburg died
Friday.
Born July 6, 1911, to the late Charlie and Martha
Jones Sluder, he was the widower of Ivis Marie Sluder, retiree from Southern
Railroad and member of The Church of God in Eubank.
Survivors include sons, Stanley of Waynesburg and
Paul of Eubank; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many
great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, twin brother at
infancy, three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barnett &
Demrow Funeral Home. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

MORELAND - George W. "G.W." Smith Jr., 81,
of Casey County died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008.
Born Sept. 10, 1926, in Casey County, he was the son
of the late Pauline Ellis and George Wesley Smith Sr. He was a farmer and served
as pastor of Ellisburg Baptist Church for the past 17 years. Having been a
Baptist minister since 1949, he also had served at several other churches in
Kentucky and West Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Patterson Smith of
Casey County; two sons, Billy Dale (Stella) Smith of Lexington and Donovan Ray
(Vickie) Smith Sr. of Somerset; a daughter, Becky Smith Phelps of Lexington; two
stepchildren, Donald Wayne (Anita) Elmore of Springfield and Gwen (Mike) Suarez
of Land Of Lakes, Fla.; a sister, Gloria Smith Thomas of Moreland; an uncle,
Thomas Reed of Casey County; 11 grandchildren, Gabriel, Andrea, Jonathan,
Donovan, Junior, Matthew, Julie, Joe, JoAnna, Misty, Tiffany and Tori; eight
great-grandchildren, Noah, Luke, Mackenzie, Morgan, Mason, Ella, Marshall and
Lillian; eight stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and three nieces
and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Smith;
and a brother, Jimmy Dale Smith.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ellisburg Baptist
Church, officiated by his sons, Bros; Bill and Donovan Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Ellisburg Baptist
Church. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren.
Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Friday at W.L. Pruitt
Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellisburg Baptist Church.

Freda Sowers, 79, of Danville, died Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
A native of Casey County, she was born Aug. 7, 1928 to the late Fred and Holly Lucas Sowers. She was an inspector for Cowden Manufacturing in Lancaster and Sportswear Manufacturing in Liberty and a member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Sowers; and grandparents, Walter and Loretta Estes Lucas.
Survivors include an uncle, Ralph Lucas of Mt. Salem; and several cousins.
Funeral services were Feb. 4 at the
Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford with Rev. Leslie Bentley officiating. Burial
was in Estes Cemetery.

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007 at her residence. Born in Tennessee on Sunday,
December 14th, 1921 to the late Thomas & Lynna Cantrell Strickley she was a
homemaker and clerk in the family business and a member of Kings Mountain
Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband Raymond Stull; two daughters Carole (Jerry) Moore
of Kings Mountain, Sue (Bill) Buckman of Frankfort; a daughter in law Judy
Stull; five grandchildren Gina Moore Douglas, Jerri Lynn Moore, Bruce Stull,
Blake Buckman, and Jennifer Stull; five Great-Grandchildren Brittany &
Lauren Douglas, Shelby Stull, Dalton Buckman and Galen Stull.
Mary was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Stull.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 24th, 2007 at
Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. Don Scilley officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Point Cemetery. Visitation will be held
from 6-9pm on Thursday, August 23rd, 2007 at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Shawn Stull, Mark Morford, Steve Correll, Eddie
Raby, Ron Wood and Jack Stull. Honoary Pallbearers will be Grandchildren

Born July 29, 1932, in Lincoln County, she was the
daughter of the late John and Dora Bell Robinson.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Trailor; two
sons, Cecil (Diane) Trailor of Moreland and Johnny Mac (Bernice) Trailor of
Stanford; a daughter, Margaret (Don) Stephens of Stanford; two brothers, George
Robinson of Stanford and Jim Robinson of Frankfort; a sister, Opal Robertson of
Stanford; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

He was born March 8, 1940, in Lincoln County, to the
late Casper C. and Mattie Mullins Wardlow.
Survivors include a brother, Loyd Wardlow of Crab
Orchard; a sister, Anna Mae Hopkins of Crab Orchard; a half sister, Pauline
Cornett of Connersville, Ind.; and caretakers, Charles and Mae Johnson of
Waynesburg.
He was preceded in death by a half brother, Virgil
Wardlow; and half sister, Rossetta Burchfield.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Crab
Orchard Cemetery.

Mary Ann Cutter Turpin Willoughby, 91, of White Oak Road, Junction City, died Thursday, Jan. 17 at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
A native of Casey County, she was born Wednesday, May 10, 1916 to the late Willie and Edna Baxter Cutter. She was a member of Alum Springs Church of God and most recently the Love of God Ministries, and the widow of Virgil Turpin and Bill Willoughby. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and farming.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, George, Albert and Junior Cutter; and three sisters, Alpha and Pearl Douglas and Inez Rogers.
Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Jean (Avorn) Reynolds of Junction City; a sister, Geneva Duke of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Timmy, Kenneth, and Randall Reynolds, Ann Stevens, and Gloria Reardon; 10 great grandchildren, Carol Mesman, Jessica Griffith, T.J., Tanya and Kenneth Reynolds, Ronnie Reardon Jr., Anthony and Sam Reardon, Patricia Higdon, and Tiffany Johnson; six great, great grandchildren, Scarlett and Sarah Mesman, Hunter Crowley, Rebecca Griffith, Kaitlin Johnson, and Trevor Thomas.
Funeral services were Jan. 21 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Bro. Lewis Himes officiating. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.
