STANFORD - Joshua Paul Adkins, 13, of Stanford, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 23, 1994, in Boyle County, Ky., he was a son of Paul and Lisa King Adkins. He was a student at Lincoln County Middle School. He was a football and baseball player and avid UK football fan. He also enjoyed WWE wrestling. Josh had a wish to be in the world book of records by getting the most get well cards anyone has ever received. He received thousands upon thousands of cards from all over the world.

Survivors include his mother, Lisa King Adkins of Stanford; father, Paul (Debbie) Adkins of West Liberty; paternal grandparents, George and Letha Adkins of West Liberty; maternal grandparents, Carolyn Murphy of Stanford and Robert King of Stanford; sister, Laura Adkins of Stanford; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Erwin and the Rev. Morris Trayner officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home and after church on Sunday at the church.

MORELAND - Willard Dale Ashcraft, 74, of Hustonville, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007.

Born Sept. 3, 1933, in Dearborn County, Ind., he was the son of the late David M. and Mary Agnes Sullivan Ashcraft. He had worked as a shipping supervisor for Thatcher Glass Co. in Lawrenceburg, Ind., (now Anchor Glass) and Foster-Forbes in Marion, Ind. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Smith Ashcraft of Hustonville; a son, Jimmy Dale Ashcraft of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; a daughter, Deborah Disbro of Aurora, Ind.; two stepsons, Kevin Powers of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Brian Powers of Gravel Switch; a brother, Donald Ashcraft of Celina, Ohio; a sister, Hazel Oberting of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; and four stepgrandchildren.

                                                                     Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Moreland Christian Church.                                                     

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Fitch-Denny Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg, Ind., with visitation after 11 a.m.

CRAB ORCHARD - Kenneth "Kenny" Ray Ball, 60, of Crab Orchard, Ky., died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

Kenny was born Jan. 28, 1947, in Stanford, Ky. He was the son of Ray and Beulah Baker Ball. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and Crab Orchard Masonic Lodge No. 636 F&AM. He was an Air Force veteran, graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and a retired Kentucky State Police detective after 24 years of service. Honors include being named both Kentucky State Police Trooper of the Year and Detective of the Year.

Besides his parents, survivors include a daughter, Genia (Mike) Hardwick of Crab Orchard; sister, Linda (Colson) Wilson of Brodhead, Ky.; grandson, Michael Wade Hardwick of Crab Orchard; and special friend, Jenny Lynn Whittaker of Lancaster, Ky.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at McKnight Funeral Home by Brothers Dan Gutenson and Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery on Edwards Road in Crab Orchard with Kentucky State Police Honor Guard and Caswell Saufley Post 18 American Legion of Stanford.

Pallbearers will be Gary Jenkins, Steve Brown, Tom Sawyer, Bill Snyder, Earl Dean McWhorter and Dariel Lee Whittaker.

Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Sims, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, retired Kentucky State troopers of Richmond Post 7 and all patients at Dialysis Clinic Inc.

STANFORD - Florence G. Beazley, 83, of Stanford died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born April 10, 1924, in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Gatewood G. and Pearl E. Beazley. She was a former flower designer at Burgin's and Speake's flower shops in Stanford, worked at Corning Glass in Danville for 10 years, and was a member of Stanford Christian Church.

Survivors include a nephew, Charles Samuel (Alice) Gilliland of Danville. She was predeceased by daughters, Gatie Beazley Estridge and Jacqueline Estridge Slone.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery by the Rev. David Gambrel.

Pallbearers will be Charles Gilliland, Gary Brummett, T.J. Hill, Harold Denson, Alfred Pence Jr. and Barry Spurlin.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home.

WAYNESBURG - James Mack Braunm, 55, of Sidney, Ohio, formerly of Kings Mountain, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, after a brief illness.

Born April 6, 1952, in Pulaski County, Ky., he was the son of the late Tom and Mary Hall Braunm. James was a former 25-year employee of Wagner Ware in Sidney, Ohio, and a current employee of Master Vision Polishing Co., in Sidney, Ohio. He was of the Baptist faith, loved and enjoyed kids, fishing and his dogs.

Survivors include his fianc, Mary Wren of Sidney, Ohio; three brothers, Jessie (Pattie) Braunm of Fort Loramie, Ohio, Fred (Nancy) Braunm of Midway, Ky., and Joe Braunm of Sidney, Ohio; four sisters, Margaret Sharp of Loveland, Ohio, Shirley (Estill) Hall of Waynesburg, Ky., Frances (Herman) Greer of Kings Mountain, and Darlene (Andy) Philipot of Sidney, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and John Braunm; two sisters, Molly Crouch and Vinnie Rackley; and a nephew, David Lynn Greer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in the K.P. Hall Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - Carl D. Brown, 79, of Crab Orchard, KY, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Ky.

He was the husband of Hazel Todd Brown, whom he married Feb. 1, 1958, in Stanford, Ky.

Carl was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Lincoln County to the late William Ezra "Bill" and Oma Singleton Brown. He was a farmer and former employee of Sterns and Foster and Penn Ventilator. He was a member of New Hope First Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Brown; two sons, Roger (and wife Lisa) Brown and Wayne Brown, both of Crab Orchard; three brothers, Delmus Brown of Mount Dora, Fla., and Donald Brown and Bobby Brown, both of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Anna Mae Hood and Mary Napier, both of Crab Orchard; five grandchildren, Bridget, Brandon, Bradley, Kaitlin and Jacob; and a great-grandson, Cole.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, William and Oma Brown; brothers, Dexter, George and Ernest Brown; and sisters, Marie Combs and Billie Lunsford.

Services will be noon Friday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Bob Stokes and Bro. Gary Griffith. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers Include Brandon and Bradley Brown, Donald Cable, Everett Adams, Carl Crank and Connell Anderson.

STANFORD - Christine Reed Cardwell, 78, of Louisville, died Saturday.

Born Nov. 12, 1929, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Cynthia A. Warfield Reed. She was a legal secretary and homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Kenneth L. Cardwell of Louisville; three daughters, Cindy (Pat) Ray of Eureka, Mo., Cheryl Cardwell of Clarksville, Ind., and Shelley (Mike) Barron of Sellersburg, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Moriah Christian Church with Bro. Rob Cox officiating.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

LOUISVILLE - Everett B. "Whitie" Claypool, 72, of Louisville died Monday.

He was a native of Lincoln County. He retired after 30 years of service with the U.S. Post Office. He was a Baptist and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by two children, Steven Claypool and Lisa Halouma; his mother, Blanch King Chadwell; grandchildren, Kristin Hibbard and Anthony Halouma; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Stanford.

Violet Snow Coffman, 67, of McKinney died Monday, November 12, 2007  at Fort Logan Hospital. Born August 8, 1940 in Casey county to the late Fred and Velma Richards Snow. She was a former cook at McKinney Elementary school, worked at Genesco for 22 Years, worked at Stanford House Nursing Home and at Matshuita In Danville. She was a member of Geneva Communtiy Church and the widow of Orville Kenneth Coffman.

Survivors include two daughters; Donna Yocum (Lindsey) of McKinney and Charlotte Long (Bill) of Hustonville, three sisters; Bernice Griffin of Hustonville, Marie Singleton of Louisville and June Hardwick of Dunnville; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be officiated by Reverand Rick Naylor, Thursday at 2 P.M. at Spurlin Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be; Ray and Craig Griffin, Joseph and Mark Hrdwick, David Singleton, Josh and Jeremy Long and Jonathan McWhorter. Honorary bearers will be Shane and Kim Yocum, Shelley and Todd Cockerham, Anna Holbert, Dinah Rood and Winford Coffman.

Born April 5, 1936, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Sadie Coleman. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Mae Coleman; a son, James Ray Coleman of Hustonville; two daughters, Wilma Coleman and Velma (Floyd Rogers) Coleman of Stanford; and three grandchildren, Lance, Adam and Lori Coleman. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Coleman.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Marvin King with burial in Angel Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30-9 p.m. Tuesday.

He was an attorney at law for 34 years in Lincoln County; past Commonwealth Attorney; a three-term state representative; and a past district judge for Lincoln, Jessamine and Garrard counties. He was a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Zora Ball Cornett; nephews, Gary Rudd of Norwood, Ohio, and Douglas Wilson of Sherwood, Ohio; niece, Brenda Godfrey of Norwood, Ohio; a sister, Juanita McAllister of Springdale, Ohio; and an uncle, Robert Cornett of Batesville, Ind.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Max Hester. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Frieda Pruitt.

Charles Gilbert “Gibby” Estes, 72, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born in Lincoln County, Ky., on Oct. 10, 1935 to the late Charles H. and Mary Allen Estes. He was a member of the Eubank Baptist Church. Charles served in the Air Force during the Korean War and retired from G.E. manufacturing.

He is survived by Peggy Stapleton Estes; two sons, Charles T. Estes, Somerset, and Miles A. (and Delisa) Estes, Barbourville, Ky.; a daughter, Moriah (and Brian) Perry, Somerset; a brother, Thomas B. Estes; and four grandchildren, Kelsey Estes, Alex Estes, Alana Perry, and Ross Perry.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 17, at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Bro. Doug Wilcoxson officiating. American Legion Post #38 will conduct military honors.

Interment will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - Robert W. "Bobby" Fletcher, 52, of Crab Orchard, Ky., died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born April 6, 1955, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of Thelma Little Fletcher and the late Jim F. Fletcher. He was a farmer and a member of Watts Chapel Baptist Church. He was a 1973 graduate of Crab Orchard High School.

Other survivors Include four sons, Robert Issac Fate Fletcher of Somerset, Ky., Lester (Maria Byrd) Powell, Billy Joe Fletcher and Landon Fletcher, all of Stanford, Ky.; a daughter, Michelle Fletcher of Stanford; two stepdaughters, Lisa Randolph of Stanford and Jessica Houk of Mount Vernon, Ky.; four sisters, Virginia Metcalf of Cincinnati, Ohio, Martha Cowan of West Chester, Ohio, Janice (Jim) Southard of Lancaster, Ky., and Mary (Jerry) Davidson of Middleton, Ohio; two granddaughters, Grayson Fletcher and Madison Powell; and three step grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Newtie Fletcher.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tony Shelton. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Ray Frith, 76, of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday, Oct. 31 at his home.

A native of Rockcastle County, he was born Dec. 3, 1930 to the late Thomas and Mary Brummett Frith. He was a retired dairy farmer and widower of Ethel Ledford Frith.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Ledford; one brother, Glen Frith; and a son-in-law, Arthur Meece.

Survivors include two daughters, Regina Meece of Stanford and Ramona (Doug) Snyder of Waynesburg; three sons, Tommie (Tammy) Frith and Timmie (Martha) Frith both of Crab Orchard and Jeffery (Missy) Frith of Stanford; four sisters, Margaret (Larry) Payne of Corbin, Juanita Coomer of Leithfield, Juliette (Dan) Small of Columbus, Ind., and Lisa (Doug) Stone of Clarkson; four brothers, Earl Frith and Kenneth (Etta Mae) Frith both of Caneyville, Bobby (Phyllis) Frith of Ninevah, Ind., and Ronald (Phylis) Frith of Paoli, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

STANFORD - Betty Janie Griffin, 66, of Stanford, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born July 18, 1941, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Ollie Catrell Foley. She was a homemaker and the widow of George Gilpin and Richard Griffin Sr.

Survivors are sons, George Gilpin of Lebanon, Ind., Paul Gilpin of Mt. Vernon and Richard Griffin Jr. of Stanford; daughters, Lois Wells of Crab Orchard, Rosie French of Mount Vernon and Wanda Brock of Waynesburg; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother and three sisters.

Services are 3 p.m. today at Spurlin Funeral Home by Brother Gerald Sims. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Griffin Jr., Paul Gilpin, George Gilpin, Jonathan Wells, Randy Brock and Brian Wilson.

STANFORD - Elmer Griffin, 71, of Stanford, died Saturday.

Born Feb. 5, 1936, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Raymond and Reva Foley Griffin. He was head mechanic for Owens Chevrolet for more than 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Hale Griffin of Stanford; a son, Elmer Ray Griffin (Tammy) of Junction City; a daughter, Sondra Griffin of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Harold McLaren. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

LANCASTER - Minnie Phillips Grimes, 85, of Hill Court, died Friday at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born April 24, 1922, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late John and Hattie Lasure Phillips. She was a dietary aid for Garrard County Memorial Hospital for more than 25 years and a member of Lancaster Nazarene Church. She was the widow of Homer Grimes.

Survivors include four daughters, Alene East (Bob), Hazel Conner (George) and Shirley Grimes, all of Lancaster, and Lillian Padgett (Freddie) of Waynesburg; two sons, Buddy and Bruce Grimes, both of Lancaster; two brothers, Gatewood Phillips of Lancaster and John Phillips of Stanford; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lee Grimes, a brother, Kenneth Phillips; and three sisters, Grace Cook, Lula Reynolds and Roberta McQuerry.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lancaster Nazarene Church.

Pallbearers will be John Davis, Terry Graves, Gene Hall, Tommy Shelton, Darrell Barrett and Doc Long.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Spurlin Funeral Home and after noon Tuesday at the church.

STANFORD - Malcom "Jake" Jacobs of Sherwood Trail, Newton, Ala., and formerly of Waynesburg, Ky., was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was 51.

He was born Sept. 20, 1956, in Lincoln County, Ky. He was employed with Asplunde Tree Trimming Corp. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Dothan, Ala. Mr. Jacobs loved his pastor Murray Kelley and all the visits at the hospital and his home. He also loved his family and his dear friends. He had a zest for life, was always jolly and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Jacobs of Newton; his father, Jesse Jacobs of Waynesburg; his mother, Lucy Beasley of Newton; three brothers, Phillip (Fonda) Jacobs, Jack (Sara) Jacobs and Jesse "Tucker" (Jacqueline) Jacobs, all of Waynesburg; five sisters, Jean (Kenny) Smiley of Cerulean, Ky., Juanita (Carl) Cornett of Lima, Ohio, Marlene Selle of Maricopa, Ariz., Wanda (David) McGhee of Cadiz, Ky., and Martha (Paul) Estes of Waynesburg; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of God of Prophecy New Life in Waynesburg with the Rev. Vola Brown. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery.

Martha Elizabeth Ellis Jeffries, 94, of Hustonville, died Saturday, Oct. 27.

A native of Casey County, she was born June 13, 1913 to the late Oscar Burl and Mary Elizabeth Stockley Ellis.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Jeffries; two daughters, Geneva Pinson and Jessie Edwards; and one grandchild.

Survivors include four sons, William “Bud” (Lois) Jeffries of Danville, Lowell T. Jeffries of Centralia, Ill., Pete (Judy) Jeffries of Lancaster and Donald L. (Annette) Jeffries of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one daughter, Henrietta (Joe) Burch of Montague, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and seven great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 31 at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters.

Allen Kenneth Jones, 88, of Clearwater, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 18 at his home.

A native of Waynesburg, he was born June 30, 1919 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jones. He was a graduate of Highland High School, a member of the Gymless Wonders basketball team from Highland High School, worked as an engineer for the B & O Railroad, and loved sports, his career, and his devotion to God.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth G. Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Stella M. Sizemore Jones; children, Pam Haverland and Becky (Randy) Zettlemoyer; sister, Marie Denton; daughter-in-law, Doris Jones; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 24 at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Mt. Healthy, Ohio.

She was the widow of John H. Leigh Jr., who preceded her in death on March 1, 2002. She was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church.

STANFORD - James H. "Sonny" Logan, 81, of Stanford, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.

Born April 17, 1926, in Stanford, he was the son of the late James H. and Mary Wolford Logan. He was a World War II Navy veteran, worked for Baughman Milling Co. for 20 years, Parsons Beef, and with his brother in the painting and drywall business until retirement. In his retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, repairing lawn mowers, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Givens Logan of Stanford; two sons, James Scott (Rose) Logan of Aurora, Colo., and Anthony (Mary) Logan of Berea, Ky.; two daughters, Sheila (Lloyd) Benjamin of Columbia, S.C., and Brenda (Tommy) Cofer of Liberty, Ky.; a brother, George L. (Betty) Logan of Lexington; and three sisters, Mary (Jessie) Rice, Polly (Joseph) Hocker and Gloria (Edward) Thomas, all of Lexington. Two brothers, Fred L. and John T. Born Aug. 2, 1927, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late James and Dora Watts McGuffey. He worked at Chrysler Corp. in Dayton, Ohio, for seven years; owned a Carnation milk route for several years in Danville; and retired from American Greetings, Danville, after 22 years.

He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he was a past trustee and member of its brotherhood; veteran of Korean War, ranked sergeant; and member of Caswell Saufley Post No. 18 American Legion, Military Honor Guard and Baptist Disaster Relief Team.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Caudill McGuffey; sons, Ronnie (Lana) McGuffey of Waynesburg and Jeff McGuffey of Stanford; granddaughters, Rachael and Hillary McGuffey; and a brother, Fonzo McGuffey of Stanford. He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Baker. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Nov. 29, 1937 to the late Dellie Green Hale and Ellen Baxter Phillips Hale. She was a x-ray technician, member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church, and the widow of James B. Miller, Sr.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Hale; three sisters, Minnie Caudill, Lula Lytle and Sally Kovacs; and several half brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy (Dusty) Miller of Stanford; one daughter, Donna (Ken) Eaton of Easton, Md.; one sister, Rosie Lukat of Fern Creek; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A native of Lincoln County, he was born Monday, Nov. 15, 1915 to the late Rube and Elda Jacobs Padgett. He was a carpenter and a farmer, a member of Olive Baptist Church, and the widower of Lillie Haste.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers Carl, Earl, Jackie, and Jim Padgett; and a sister, Ruby Smith.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph Eugene (Betty) Padgett and Daryl Wayne (Pam) Padgett both of Waynesburg; a brother, Thomas J. Mary Louise Phillips, 67, of Stanford, died Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Jan.18, 1940 to the late Ray and Ethel Robinson Bastin. She was a homemaker, member of the Stanford Nazarene Church and the American Legion Post #345 Women’s Auxiliary, and the widow of Kenneth Phillips.

STANFORD - Jim Reed, 72, of Stanford, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at his residence.

Born Sept. 16, 1935, in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late James R. and Charlotte Rodda Reed. He was Lincoln County judge-executive from 1994 to 1999, owned and operated Reed Electrical Supply, and was employed by National Cash Register in Dayton, Ohio, for 23 years.

He was a member of the Lions Club, Kentucky Farm Bureau, and Lincoln County Fair Board and was Stanford/Lincoln County Industrial Authority secretary and treasurer.

He also was Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce director, a member of First Southern Bank board, Southeastern Kentucky Economic Development board and Center for Rural Development board. He was active with Lincoln County Little League and a member of Harris Memorial United Methodist Church board and administrative council. He was recipient of the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce "Citizen of the Year" award in 1983.

Survivors include his son, Jim "Jimbo" (Stacie) Reed of Prospect, Ky.; a granddaughter, Brooke Lynne Reed of Prospect; brother-in-law, the Rev. Tinsley (Joann) Ball Jr. of Duncan, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Kate Spoonamore of Stanford and Lyda Blanton of Orleans, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fanlee Ball Reed; and a sister, Charlotte Reed.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at New Beginnings United Methodist Church, formerly Harris Memorial United Methodist Church, with Byron Crawford and the Rev. Donna Jones officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery with military rites by Caswell-Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion.

Born Nov. 2, 1942, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was a son of the late Roy and Baxine Bitner Sims. He was retired from General Motors as a fork truck driver and a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Childers Sims, whom he married Dec. 12, 1960; three sons, Kenneth Sims of Tampa, Fla., and Michael Sims and Tony Sims, both of Martinsville, Ind.; a daughter, Tammie Sims Davis of Morrisville, Ind.; three brothers, Jimmy Dale Sims of Indianapolis, Ind., and Randy Lane Sims and Danny Lee Sims, both of Pond Ridge, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren.

Carol Russell Sims, 61, of Danville, died Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

A native of Danville, she was born May 9, 1946 to the late Hearn “Buck” and Phyllis Douglas Russell. She was a homemaker, employee of FLW Outdoors “Pro Bass” Fishing Tournaments, past president of State Mothers Club of Kentucky DeMolay Association, and a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Duvall Sims, Jr. of Danville; three sons, Michael Shane (Monica) Sims of Danville, and Dr. Chris (Pattie) Sims and Marion Carroll (Tammy) Sims both of Stanford; three brothers, Larry, Jimbo, and Roy Russell, all of Waynesburg; five grandchildren; five nieces; and five nephews.

Born March 21, 1921, in Crab Orchard, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Martha Broughton Martin. She had been a resident for the last 18 months at Greenewood Manor. She had been a school teacher, was a member of East Dayton Baptist Church and attended First Church of the Nazarene in Xenia. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and loved the Super 60s at the Xenia Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Wilson (and Jerry E. Johnson) of Xenia, Ohio; a granddaughter, Melanie (Todd) Davis of Xenia, Ohio; two half-sisters, Jewell Gaston of Gastonia, N.C., and Eunice Jones of Salvisa, Ky.; and great-granddaughters, Missy and Mindy Davis of Xenia, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew Taylor; sisters, Josephine Lawson, Betty Noland and Mae Worek; brothers, Leonard "Jiggs" Martin Jr. and Robert M. Martin; and a half-brother, Cecil Martin.

Born Sept. 1, 1926, in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Robert Smith Vaught and Lillie Wade Vaught. She was a beautician for 58 years operating several shops including Margaret's Ye Ole Shoppe. She was a member of Stanford Christian Church where she was a former board member, Lincoln County Historical Society and president of the Parkinson's support group. She was the widow of Bill Teater Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Bill M. Teater Jr. (Jackie) of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Thomas Wade Teater of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Bernadine King Ball of Waynesburg, Ky.; grandchildren, Dayna Bell Montgomery, Margaret Bell, Emily Teater and William Teater III; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Toomey and Todd Lark.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Wade Vaught; and a sister, Maebelle Grubbs.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Stanford Christian Church by the Revs. Pete Gilliam and Dr. Jim Baughman. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

WAYNESBURG - Leroy Wells, 81, of Waynesburg, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Sunday, Nov. 15, 1925, in Letcher County, Ky., he was a son of the late Arthur and Polly Cornett Wells. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in the 531st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. Leroy was a farmer and the widower of Faye Sims Wells.

Survivors include three sons, Curtiss (Judy) Wells and James (Patsy) Wells, both of Waynesburg, and Randy (Sandie) Wells of Junction City; a brother, Bobby Wells of Ohio; two sisters, Iva Cheatham of Stanford and Lavena Ham of Waynesburg; eight grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Leroy was preceded in death by five brothers, Melvin, Johnnie, Coolie, Luther and Billy James Wells; and a sister, Helena Chreech.

STANFORD - Edith Waldroup Withers, 87, of Kings Mountain, Ky., died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at Golden Living Center.

Born Dec. 6, 1919, in Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Cread and Florence Love Roberts. She was a teacher and librarian at Kings Mountain School for 39 years and librarian at Waynesburg. She was a member of Kings Mountain Methodist Church, a graduate of Cumberland College, Eastern Kentucky University and received her master of library science from EKU. She was the widow of William Waldroup and Irvin Withers.

She was devoted to God, family and former students. After retiring, she devoted her time to the local history of the Kings Mountain community and the old school history, nature, birds and flowers.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Waldroup (Arlene) of Waynesburg and Rod Waldroup (Pat) of Stanford; four grandchildren, Doug Waldroup, Donna Henderson, Heather Waldroup and Ryan Waldroup; and two great-grandchildren, Blake Henderson and Hunter Waldroup.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home, officiated by the Revs: John Lowrey and Vola Brown. Burial will be in Sims Cemetery, Kings Mountian, Kentucky

CRAB ORCHARD - A Mass of Christian burial for Cecelia M. Williams, 89, of Newark, Ohio, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Ottenheim, Ky., with the Rev. Ralph Beiting officiating. Interment will follow in St. Sylvester Cemetery.

She died Tuesday at the LPN Care Center.

She was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Crab Orchard, Ky., to the late Frank and Albertine Schaffer Hoeck. She was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and regularly volunteered in the St. Francis School Cafeteria. She also was a volunteer at Licking Memorial Hospital and a member of Christian Appalachian Project and Navy Mothers No. 156 for 46 years.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Karen Williams of Ducktown, Tenn.; her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Boggs of Ormond Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Lioba Tucker of Shelby, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband, Ivor John "Jack" Williams; her daughter, Patricia S. Ryan; her brothers, Joe and Anton Hoeck; and her sister, Rita Ritter.

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Jan. 2, 1914 to the late Logan and Della Bastin Carrier. She was a former co-owner/operator of Youngs Grocery Store in Stanford, a member of Mt. Moriah Christian Church, and widow of Willie Thomas “Tommy” Young.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Victor C. Young, Sr.

Survivors include one son, Robert (Barbara Sue) Young of Stanford; one daughter, Linda (Jewitt) Borden, Sr. of Winchester; a daughter-in-law, Betty Young of Stanford; one sister, Evelyn Kreitzer of Englewood, Ohio; two brothers, Eugene (Dessie) Carrier of Stanford and Etherage “Babe” (Peggy) Carrier of Danville; a sister-in-law, Gladys Carrier of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren, Victor C.
