Danny Lee Allen, 57, of Moreland died Tuesday, May 15 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, he was born Feb. 22, 1950 to the late Joseph R. and Bonnie Grace Saylor Allen. He was a disabled veteran, having served 18 years in the Marines, a Vietnam War veteran, completing six tours there, and a recipient of two Purple Hearts.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jean Allen of Moreland; one daughter, Jacqulyn Allen of Phoenix, Ariz.; two uncles, Eli (Helen) Saylor of Somerset and William (Louise) Saylor of Lexington; 23 step grandchildren and 20 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services were May 18 at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery with military rites by Boyle Post 46 Honor Guard.

Active pallbearers were Billy, Zackery, Wayne and Jason Reed, Gary Brown and Ivay Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Trenton and Tucker Allen.

Shawn Bastin, 26, of Somerset Road, Stanford, died Saturday, April 28 in Stanford.

A native of Lawton, Okla., he was born Thursday, Feb. 26, 1981 to Ricky Bastin and Angie Long (Wayne) Berry both of Stanford. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and enjoyed playing sports and spending time with his family.

Other survivors include his paternal grandparents, Joe and Lois Everett of Stanford; maternal grandparents, Harold and Shirley Long of Danville; half-brother, Brett Berry of Stanford; sister, Sarah Bastin of Stockbridge, Mich.; his companion, Candice Flannery; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were May 1 at Fox Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Curtis officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Brett Berry, Mike Long, Jim Long, Lee Everett, James Taylor, and Donnie Pinkston.

Ruthel E. Brown, 86, of 2 E. South St. in Liberty, Ind. died Wednesday evening at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind. She was born on January 21, 1913 in Liberty, Ky.

Funeral services took place Monday at the Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel in Liberty, Ind. Rev. Fred Cox, pastor of her church, officiated.

Burial and public graveside services took place Tuesday at Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford, Ky.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church at the funeral home.

DELANEY, ALVORA; 79; died May 5, 2007 at home surrounded by his family. He was born October 16, 1927 in Lincoln County, KY to the late Milton Ault Delaney and Mary Marlow Delaney. A God fearing man, Al deeply loved family and worked sacrificially to provide for them. He never met a stranger, and spent seven wonderful years RVing with Carole throughout the United States and Canada, sharing the same jokes with new friends. He realized a life long dream traveling and fishing for three months in Alaska. Mr. Delaney is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carole Delaney; children, Michael Robert Delaney and wife, Linda of Ypsilanti, MI, Kathryn Joyce Ruphard and husband, Garry of Trenton, MI, Kymberly Lynn Arana and husband, Guillermo Arana, II of Cary, and Robert William Delaney of Ypsilanti, MI; 7 grandchildren, Michael Delaney, Marc Delaney, Matthew Delaney, Christopher Ruphard, Laurie Ruphard, Guillermo Arana, III, and Elias Arana; 4 great grandchildren, Brandon, Keegan, Ethan, and Dylan Delaney; sister, Betty June Greer of Roseville, MI; sister-in-law, Janet Delaney of Redford, MI; and numerous extended family members. Mr. Willie P. Denny, age 93, died Monday, April 14, 1997 at Garrard County Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

A resident of Perryville Road, Harrodsburg, he was born October 24, 1903 in Madison County and was the son of the late George W. and Susie Elizabeth Best Denny.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Boyle County.

Survivors include: his wife, Joetta Lane Denny , Harrodsburg; four sons, Jimmy G. (Mollie) Denny, Mercer County, Willie Louis (Judy) Denny, Garrard County, Joe M. (Joan) Denny , Burgin and Russell "PeeWee" (Annie) Denny , Mercer County; five daughters, Shirley D. Hale and Betsy Tipton, both of Lexington, Mrs. Pete (Judy Lee) Jeffries, Garrard County, Mrs. Gerald (Elizabeth "Coonie") Smith, Crab Orchard, Mrs. Robert (Loretta) Edwards, Fair Bluff, NC; two sisters, Pearl Logan and Clara Jones, both of Lancaster; one half sister, Mrs. Charlie (Barbara) Ray, Garrard County; one half brother, Garland Edward Denny, Nicholasville.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17 at Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Barry Jeffries and Rev. Jerry Browning officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - Gary Lee Dowell, 61, of Crab Orchard, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007, at his home. He was the husband of Linda Saylor Dowell, whom he married April 7, 1965.

He was born Oct. 10, 1945, in Lincoln County, to the late Frank and Elsie Simpson Dowell. He was a retired employee of Penn Ventilation and a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Linda L. Saylor Dowell of Crab Orchard; two sons, Darrell Dowell of Crab Orchard and wife Pauletta, and Dale Dowell and wife Leslie of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Letha and husband Charles Isaac of Crab Orchard, and Tammy Wren of Crab Orchard; a sister, Alma Jean Saylor of Waynesburg; four brothers, Ottis Dowell of Waynesburg, Walter Dowell of Waynesburg, Donald Dowell of Crab Orchard and Freeman Dowell of Waynesburg; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie Dowell; a brother, Russell Dowell; and an infant brother, Kenneth Dowell.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Thad Eubank and Bro. Arnold Larkin. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church of Christ Cemetery.

Raymond Milton Durham, 70, of 1106 S. 24th St., Richmond, Ind., died Saturday, April 22, at his home.

Born Aug. 24, 1929, in Rockcastle County, Ky., he was the son of Leander and May (Abney) Durham, and had resided in Richmond for 50 years. He was a tool and dies maker at Belden, was a member of the Belden 25-Year Club and a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lelia (Ellison) Durham, whom he married Dec. 24, 1950; a son, Raymond Bruce Durham of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter, Pamela W. Lipps of West Manchester; five grandchildren; and his mother, Mayme Durham of Richmond, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Clarence Edward Durham and Caroll Wayne Durham; and a grandson, Bruce D. Durham.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Calvary Baptist Church, 119 SW "E" St., Richmond, Ind., with the Rev. Lester Maples officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.

LANCASTER - Jessie Jeffries Edwards, 66, of Forks Church Road, died Saturday, at her residence.

Born Jan. 5, 1941, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Howard Jeffries and Martha Ellis Jeffries of Hustonville. She was a faithful member of the Forks of Dix River Baptist Church, a member of the Sunshine Group at her church, and an employee of the Nicholasville Wal-Mart. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Edwards, her father Howard Jeffries, and a sister Geneva Pinson.

In addition to her mother, survivors include a son, Mark Edwards of Lancaster; four brothers, Pete (Judy) Jeffries of Lancaster, Bud (Lois) Jeffries of Danville, Lowell Jeffries of Centralia, Ill., and Donnie (Annette) Jeffries of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a sister, Henrietta (Joe) Burch of Montague, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Browning. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Edgington, Ollie Edgington, Lanny Ray, Larry Duggins, Mike Duggins and Virgil Brown. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Ladies Sunday School Class at Forks of Dix River Baptist Church.

Delmer Elliott, 72, of Camden, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Born Jan. 21, 1924, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was the son of Virgil and Effie May (Crump) Elliott. He was employed as a machinist with Hamilton Tool in Hamilton for 25 years, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Faye (Fugate) Elliott, whom he married Jan. 20, 1950; one daughter, Donna Rogers of Eaton; seven sons, Allen (Wilma) Elliott of Middletown, Terry (Gail) Elliott of West Alexandria, Rick (Julie) Elliott of Cincinnati, William (Virginia) Elliott of Dayton, James (Sandy) Elliott of Eaton, David Randal Elliott of Charlotte, N.C., Ken (Kellie) Elliott of Eaton; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Carpenter of Camden.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 30, at R.C. Nein and Sons Funeral Home, Camden, with the Rev. Arvil Dean officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.

Born Aug. 7, 1912, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Albert C. and Nancy Ellen Goodman Elliott. He retired from Southern Railroad after 20 years of service.

Survivors include two sons, Glen Elliott of Kings Mountain and Kenneth Elliott of Waynesburg; four daughters, Vernie Derry of Machesney Park, Ill., Joann Sims of Indianapolis, Ind., Velma Halcomb of Waynesburg, and Wanda Pike of Kings Mountain; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home. Interment in Salyers Cemetery, Casey County.

DANVILLE - Mr. Richard Beatty Freeman, 89, died Sun May 20, 2007 at Westminster Health & Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill, SC. Born Sep 5, 1917 in Stanford, KY, Richard graduated from Stanford High School in 1934 where he lettered in football, was a member of the debate team, and, and a state officer of FFA. He was retired from Reynolds Metal Co. in Louisville, KY.

He was a member of Charleston Road Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was instrumental in church planting and missions. The Freeman's moved to Rock Hill, SC in 1994. Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Beatrice Smithers Freeman, his parents, Dora Lee Hester and Joseph Anderson Freeman, his brother J. Lee Freeman and a sister, Sarah Freeman Hanson.

Richard is survived by daughters, Sylvia Juanell Freeman (Sanford "Sandy") Woford of Matthews, NC, Nancye Lee Freeman (Grant) Gehlbach of Rock Hill, SC and son Richard (Penny) Freeman of Richmond, IN and Ft. Myers, FL, six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters; Virgie Freeman (William) Hiles of Lexington, KY, Josephine Freeman (Charles) McEuen of Maysville, KY and brother, Eugene (Rowena) Freeman of Lexington, KY.

A memorial service will be held in the Westminster Hall Chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill on Wed, May 23 at 4 pm with Drs. Shelton Sanford and Jack Basie officiating. STANFORD - Services for Juanita Gaines, 86, of Stanford, will be 7 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery, Waynesburg.

Born Jan. 11, 1920, in Harlan County, she was a daughter of the late William and Aretha Helton. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby G. Noe of Milford, Ohio, and Donnie L Gaines of New Hampshire; four daughters, Dorothy Statham of Somerset, Charlotte Brummett of Goshen, Ohio, and Watha L. Roark and Willa D. Issacs, both of Groseback, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

STANFORD - Robert Carl "Bobby" Gifford, 57, of McKinney, died Friday. Born Nov. 23, 1949, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late William Carl and Audrey Mae Smith Gifford. He was a truck driver for Central Seal for 25 years and member of Green River Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include wife, Geraldine; children, Robert Carl (Candise) Gifford Jr., and Bobbie Jo (Jason) Caldwell, all of McKinney; siblings, Donnie Gifford and Connie Sue Buis, both of Yosemite; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Green River Pentecostal Church with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Arrangements made by Spurlin Funeral Home.

MORELAND - C.W. "Bus" Gresham, 86, of Danville, formerly of Moreland, died Monday, May 21, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 4, 1920, in Moreland, he was the son of the late Watt and Peachie Ferrell Gresham. He was a retired electrical inspector for RECC, a graduate of Moreland High School and a member of Moreland Christian Church where he had once served as deacon. He enjoyed fishing and rabbit hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Southerland Gresham; a son, R.C. "Bob" (Debbie) Gresham; three sisters, Christine Grant of Cincinnati, Ohio, Margie Mattingly of West Virginia, and Lucille Smith of Vevay, Ind.; a granddaughter, April (Eric) McCrickard; and two great-grandchildren, Christian and Calvin.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Moreland Christian Church by the Rev. David Smith with burial at Moreland Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bill Peyton, Burnon Hamilton, James Kelley, Terry Conner, Paul Rankin and Verlan Griffin. Honorary pallbearers are Glyn Southerland, Dale Smith, Charles Bolling, Tommy Adams and Hubert Royalty.

Marjorie Irene Hacker, 83, Norwood Estates, Science Hill, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2007, in Blanchester, Ohio.

Born Sunday, February 17, 1924 in Parke County, Ind., to the late Hershel L. and Martha L. Tolley Bishop. She was a nurse’s aide at Woodford Memorial Hospital, a volunteer at Bluegrass Action Center and Senior Citizens Center in Pulaski County, past president of WMU in Ohio and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Pulaski County.

Survivors include her son, Richard Earl (and Fran) Hacker, Blanchester, Ohio; a daughter, Anna (and Clinton) Sims, Stanford; a foster daughter, Barbara (and Marshall) Bray, Lexington; four brothers, Victor Bishop, Keystone, Fla., Boyd Bishop, Hamilton, Ohio, Elmer Bishop, Lancaster, and Ronnie Bishop of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Maxine Napier, Hamilton, Ohio, and Phyllis Laneheart, Waco, Ky.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. Earl Hacker, and a sister, Francis “Dolly” Bishop.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. C.E. Jacobs officiating.
Burial will be in the Parlor Grove Cemetery.

William Edward "Willie" Hampton, 66, husband of Mary Ann Baugh Hampton, died Thursday.

Born Oct. 11, 1940, in Lincoln County, he was the son of Hazel Marie Coffman Hampton and the late Jim Hampton. He attended the Stepp School in Casey County, a one-room schoolhouse. A farmer on the Aumiller Farm, he was a general contractor for Doss & Horky and was a member of Worldstown Road Church of God. He also was an avid fisherman and NASCAR fan.

Survivors also include a son, William Roy "Bill" Hampton of Boyle County; a daughter, Becky (Lonnie) Goodin; two grandsons, Caleb and Corey Goodin, all of Stanford; six brothers and sisters, Helen (Ernest) Baugh, Boyle County, Kenny (Connie) Hampton, Lincoln County, Gene (Shon) Hampton, Lancaster, Ruth Ann (Johnnie) Goodin, Stanford, Charlotte (Curtis) Wren, Perryville, and Larry (Lisha) Hampton, Boyle County.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Worldstown Road Church of God by the Revs: Floying Thompson, Ernest Fields Jr. and Lonnie Goodin. Burial will be in Parksville Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Allen Doud, Gene Hampton, Wilmer Cook, Shirley Richards, Robert McCowan and Caleb Goodin.

Betty Cole Harrison, 64, of Eaton, died Saturday, April 29, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, after an extended illness.

Born April 21, 1936 in Waynesburg, Ky., she was the daughter of Dexter and Lena Hayes Cole.

She was a former employee of McCall's, later Dayton Press; Dayton Power and Light; administrative assistant affirmative action at Miami University in Oxford for 15 years; member of the First Baptist Church in Eaton.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Jayne Harrison in 1978; a brother, William D. Cole in 1991, and her father, Dexter Cole.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Lena and Charles Lipscomb of Eaton; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Michael Kraft of Trotwood; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Lori Harrison of Clovis, Calif.

Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Robert Watt of West Alexandria; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Ruby Lipscomb of Eaton; sister-in-law, Anna Cole of Sidney; granddaughter, Kara Harrison of Clovis, Calif.; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1320 N. Maple St., Eaton, with the Rev. Fred Hill officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery at Eaton.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Barnes Funeral Home, Eaton, is in charge of arrangements.

Born on May 20, 1931, in Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Delmar James and Beulah Rowland Stull. She was the widow of James Green and Donald A. Helm, and was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Ricky Green, who was killed in Vietnam in 1968.

Survivors include a son, Donald Matthew of New Paris; a sister, Kay Irene Gordon of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by the Rev. David Gambrel with visitation after noon Saturday. Interment will be held in Gooch Cemetery in Kings Mountain, KY

Born Dec. 7, 1942, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Albert Manuel Hinds and Fredia Jane Denny Hinds. He was a former construction worker and truck driver, a member of Freedom Baptist Church, and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Candy and Cash Carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Rhonda) Hasson of Crab Orchard and David Hasson of Conover, N.C.; three daughters, Helen (Amar) Holcomb, Sonda Fowler and Ronda Hinds, all of Crab Orchard; a companion, Flora Elizabeth Hinds; four brothers, Russell Hinds of Danville, Ernie and Joe Hinds, both of Lancaster, and Leonard Hacker of Missouri; three sisters, Louise Crumley of Nicholasville, Katherine Whitaker of Bryantsville, and Alfreda Hicks of Athens, Tenn., seven grandchildren, Chad Hawley, Kindra, Ricky and Ronda Hinds, Lance Holcomb, Andrew Bruner and Kayla Hasson; one great-grandchild, Kinley Toler; and his dog and best friend, Honey.

Deloris J. Carman Howard, 74, of Eaton, OH, died May 3, 2007, at her home following an extended illness. Born August 8, 1932, in Kings Mountain, KY, she was the daughter of Nelson and Rose (Holton) Carman.

She retired after 48 years with the Clifton Shirt Company in Eaton. She was a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren, and was active with the "Just Friends" group and the Preble County Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Evans-Astrello of Spring, TX; her son, Max A. (Julie) Howard of Bellefontaine, OH; sisters, Geraldine Craig of Eaton, Fay Jackson of GA and Phyllis Patterson of FL; brothers, J.C. Carman of KY, Ray Meeks of New Paris, OH, and Robert Meeks of GA; grandchildren, Tracey, Melissa, Joshua, Lauren, Keri, Hailey and Clay; great-grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth, Griffin, Nathan, Madelyn and Jadyn; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Homer H. Howard, on January 3, 1994; a brother, Charles Carman; and granddaughter, Sarah Howard.

Funeral services were May 6, 2007 at Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria, OH, with Pastor Martin Peacock officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.

STANFORD - Cecil L. Jenkins, 82, of Stanford, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at his home.

Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Granville Lee Jenkins and Stella Young Jenkins. He was retired from Corning Glass after 31 years and six months, a farmer, musician and truck driver. He was deacon, Sunday school teacher and bus driver at Fairview Baptist Church. He was a sergeant in the Army Infantry during World War II. He received two Purple Hearts, four Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, European Theater Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal and participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy.

He was also a member of Caswell Saufley Post 18 American Legion Honor Guard, past president and member of Book Link Missionary, member of D.A.V., Kentucky Colonel, Fairview Church Brotherhood, Kentucky Baptist Disaster Unit, Stanford House Nursing Home volunteer, and played guitar with the Bluegrass Mountain Boys and several quartets.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Reed Jenkins of Stanford; sister, Nina Carrier Todd of Stanford; brother, Eugene Jenkins of Wauseon, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Fairview Baptist Church by the Revs: Johnny Baker, Gary King and Chester Cornett. Burial will be in Camp Nelson Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Caswell Saufley Post 18 American Legion.

Pallbearers will be Roy Mullins, Lloyd Rice, Danie Rice, Gene Manning, Jeff Godbey, Scotty Cook, Raleigh Stonecipher and Richard Otto.

Honorary pallbearers are the Senior Men's Sunday school class and Mr. Jenkins' Young Men's class members.

CRAB ORCHARD - Paul Ray Kidd, 70, of Crab Orchard, Ky., passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Denney Kidd whom he married June 27, 1958.

Born Nov. 5, 1936, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Kidd and Myrtle Jane Brown Kidd. He worked as a dairy farmer and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Denney Kidd of Crab Orchard; and two sisters, Helen Bernice Jones of Columbus, Ind., and Carol Jean Pittman of Crab Orchard.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kidd was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Jefferson Kidd Jr.

STANFORD - Iva Bailey Layer, 79, of Stanford, died Wednesday at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born Dec. 17, 1927, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Claude and Maggie Burdine Bailey. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Danville. She was the widow of Alfred E. Layer Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Layer Sumner (Bill) of Tomball, Texas; a son, Matthew Daniel Layer of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a brother, James Bailey (Jeanette) of Stanford; a sister, Pat Hubbard of Stanford; five grandchildren, Kelsey and Mikaela Layer, Wes Sumner, Jennifer Crews and Leighann Taylor; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Bailey; and two sisters, Josephine Nye and Betty Payne.

STANFORD - William Randall "Randy" Leach, 86, of Lexington, formerly of Stanford, died Monday, May 7, 2007, at Mayfield Manor.

Born Aug. 30, 1920, in Kings Mountain, he was a son of the late William H. and Anna Murphy Leach. He was a long-time merchant and cable television pioneer in the early 1960's. He was a member of Harris Memorial United Methodist Church, a World War II Army veteran and a former member of Stanford Rotary and Lions Club.

He served several terms on the Stanford City Council and was active with the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. He also was active in his church, singing in the choir, working with youth and serving in church offices. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and playing golf.

He also was a member of barber shop and gospel quartets. His gospel quartet once won the state fair competition and recorded a record. He also enjoyed playing Rook with his wife in a local Rook club.

Survivors include his wife, Madeline Shelley Leach of Lexington; a son, Randy Leach (Donna) of Atlanta; two daughters, Robyn Proctor (John) of Brandenburg, Ky., and Ellen Leach of Lexington; five grandchildren, Allison Proctor Beavin (John), Sam Proctor (Liz), William Leach, Andrew Leach and Callie Leach; and three great-grandchildren, Jake Beavin, Madeline Beavin and Grant Beavin.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at New Beginnings United Methodist Church by the Rev. Willard Knipp. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

WAYNESBURG - Haskell C. "H.C." Lovelace, 58, of Stanford, passed away Monday, April 30, 2007, in Fayette County as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Born on Thursday, December 23, 1948, to Flora Baker and the late Brutus C. Lovelace Jr. He was an Army veteran, having served in Vietnam, and a member of Pleasant Point Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Pennington Lovelace; two daughters, Sonya Bowen of Crab Orchard and Chastity Tilford of Florence; a sister, Theresa (Delbert) Godby of Waynesburg; and four grandchildren.

MORELAND - Mary Edith Sutherland Lutes, 90, of Stanford, died May 23 at Ephraim McDowell.

Born June 15, 1916, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late McCrealy and Corvelia Cooper Sutherland. She was the widow of Greeley Lutes.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Claus of Danville and Tammy (Corey) Renner of Stanford; son, Kenneth (Norma) Lutes of Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Michael W. Masone, of Holtsville, N.Y., formerly of Seaford, N.Y., died May 29, 2007.

He was born May 27, 1922, to the late George and Angelina Masone. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Roth, Jennie Ives and Mildred Dunne; and brothers, Charles, Louis, Anthony and Arthur Masone.

Survivors include nieces, Susan Christensen, Mary Jo Frohlich and Angela Dunne; nephews, Joseph Masone and Paul and Peter Dunne; and his cherished grandnieces and grandnephews.

Born Dec. 4, 1924, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Goodloe and Susie Wilson Masters. He was a project engineer, attended University of Kentucky and was an Air Force pilot during World War II and the Korean War.

Born Jan. 4, 1927, in Corbin, she was the daughter of the late Enoch "Doc" and Martha Boone Roberts. She was a seamstress and retired from Cowden Manufacturing Co.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Schlather; three daughters, Cynthia Boils of Russell Springs and Maxine Davis and Jackie Pierce, both of Campbellsville; a son, Tom Noe of Lexington; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

CRAB ORCHARD - Mary A. Singleton McKnight, age 78, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007, at her home in Greenwood, Ind. She was the wife of Donald L. McKnight, who she married Sept. 18, 1961.

She was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Crab Orchard, Ky., to the late John and Della Singleton. She was a member of Crab Orchard Church of God. She enjoyed crocheting, reading her Bible, visiting with her family and friends and shopping, especially at JC Penney and Value City. She was employed by Arvin's in Greenwood, Johnny Morris Restaurant and the Coffee Cup before she became a homemaker for the last 35 years.

Survivors include her husband, Donald L. McKnight of Greenwood, Ind.; a son, William Byrd of Stanford, Ky.; three grandchildren, Vedenla, Kathy and Ricky Byrd of Kentucky; a sister, Catherine Osborne of Lorraine, Ohio; a sister, Vedenia Coleman of Waynesburg, Ky.; three nieces, Shannon Kinney, Kim Adams and Allison Dishman; and two nephews, Carey and Tony McKnlght.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Della Singleton; her brothers, Clarence, Clyde, Grover and Harmon Singleton; and sisters, Evelyn Taylor and Edith Shelton.

CRAB ORCHARD - Virginia Coldiron Mullins, 79, of Crab Orchard, died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Ky.

She was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Lincoln County, Ky.; she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Judy Neal Coldiron. She was the wife of James M. "Moon" Mullins, who she married Dec. 14, 1946. She was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church in Berea, Ky. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who made the best home for her family.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James M. "Moon" Mullins of Crab Orchard; four children, Roy (Barbara) Mullins of Dona Vista, Fla., Ralph (Teresa) Mullins of Nicholasville, Rita (Randall) Perry of Broughtontown, and Reva (Glen) Miller of Stanford; two sisters, Lena Palmer of Crab Orchard and Hala Benge of Comer, Ga.; two brothers, George Coldiron of Danville and Daniel Coldiron of Nicholasville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Lee Coldiron and Ernest "Tige" Coldiron.

STANFORD -Betty Jeanne Buck Noe, 82, beloved wife of Walker McKinney Noe, died peacefully Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.

Betty was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late B.C. and Mary Catherine Clyburn Buck. Betty and Walker met at Centre College and were married March 22, 1947, at Stanford Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of that church where she was both a Sunday school teacher and church historian. She was most known by her devotion to God, family and friends. Her beautiful spirit and thoughtfulness always will be remembered by those who knew her.

Betty was an avid fisherman who enjoyed her winter home in Goodland, Fla., for the past 22 years. She made a special friend of a pet blue heron named Elvira. They spent many happy hours together catching small fish from the dock.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, Betty is survived by a son and a daughter, Kinney (Rita) Noe of Stanford, and Kathy Noe Phelps of Frankfort; four grandchildren, Lisa Walker Phelps (Bill) Moore of Shelbyville, Katie Phelps of Frankfort, Kindra Noe Krill of Louisville and Kandis Noe of Stanford; three great-grandchildren, Calley Walker Moore, Cameron McKinney Phelps and Andrew Krill; and three older brothers, B.C. Buck Jr. of Lake City, Fla., James O. (Jim) Buck of Jacksonville, Fla., and Robert C. Buck of Franklin, Tenn. Betty was preceded in death by one brother, Col. William Buck.

Robert Elliot Norris, 60, of Crawfordsville, Ind., died Tuesday, May 22 at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville, Ind.

A native of Waynesburg, he was born Oct. 21, 1946 to the late Rubin C. and Vada Godby Norris. He was a graduate of Coal Creek High School, an employee of Raybestos for 39 years, an Army veteran, a member of the Wabash Club, and was of the Baptist faith.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Russell Norris; a sister, Bonnie Labega; two half brothers, Luther M. and Roby Norris; and two half sisters, Mae Nunn and Dani Holtzclaw.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Oaks Norris; one son, Robert Kevin Norris; one daughter, Brandie (Jeremy) Hughes; two sisters, Wilena Harris and Juanita Ritter; and many nieces and nephews.

Born Feb. 10, 1961, in Westminster, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Earl and Beverly Hayden Stienbarger. She was a former assistant deli manager at Durhams Grocery in Stanford and attended Lighthouse Tabernacle.

Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Payton; two daughters, Roxanne and Ashley Peck, both of Syracuse, Ind., and three sisters, Vickie Howard and Mary Stonebraker, both of Kendallville, Ind., and Cindy Helmer of Avilla, Ind.; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Stienbarger.

Helen Morris Rankin, 76, of Rankin Road, Danville, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 30, 1930, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late David Bryles and Jennie Farris Walters Morris. After a 32-year career, she retired as vice president of the commercial loan department at Farmers National Bank. She was a life-long member and church organist of the McKendree United Methodist Church in Hubble, a graduate of Stanford High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University. She was an avid gardener and loved to cook.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Rankin; three sons, Barry Dean Rankin (Sue Ellen) of Lexington, David Paul Rankin Jr. (Karen) of Danville, and Jon Daniel "Dan" Rankin (Lori) of Danville; a brother, Bruce Morris (Susie) of Stanford; two sisters, Marjorie Fletcher (Maurice) of Titusville, N.J., and Carolyn Cooper (Bryan) of Stanford; and six grandchildren, Gabriel Dean Rankin, Luke Landon Rankin, John Paul Rankin, Clayton Tyler Rankin, Audra Danielle Rankin and Jonathan Lee Rankin. She was predeceased by a sister, Aleene Morris.

STANFORD - Lindsey Rankin Jr., 80, of Stanford, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 19, 1926, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Robert Lindsey and Flora McBeath Rankin. He was a farmer and retired from KABA where he worked as an artificial breeding technician for 25 years. He was a member of Harris Memorial United Methodist Church and attended Stanford Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater aboard the USS William Hawkins and USS Steamer Bay.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Nita Rankin; two sons, Robert Rankin III (Sue) of Stanford and James Alan Rankin (Julie) of Noblesville, Ind.; two daughters, Eva Rankin of Stanford and Linda Rankin Smith (Alan) of Lexington; a brother, John Rankin of Williamstown; a sister, Thelma Rankin of Stanford; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Bradley Rankin.

Mary Rose Smith Schieve, 83, of Harmons Lick Road, Crab Orchard, died Monday, December 1, 2003 at the Garrard County Long Term Care in Lancaster. She was a native of Philadelphia, Pa. and a member of the St. Clare Catholic Church in Berea.

She is survived by her husband Edward D. Schieve of Crab Orchard, three daughters, three sons, 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Eva C. Severance, age 87, formerly of Hamilton, died on Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati. Born in London, Kentucky, on August 20, 1916, she was the daughter of Bev and Eva (Henson) Smith. She was a member of the Hamilton Williamsdale Church of the Nazarene, the Washington Chapter #195 Eastern Star, the White Shrine and Amaranth.

Born March 9, 1948, she was the daughter of Essie Hatchell Bastin of New Salem and the late William Bastin. She was a homemaker and member of New Salem Baptist Church.

MORELAND - Don Eldon Souleyrette, 67, of Knob Lick, in Lincoln County, died May 6, 2007, at his residence after an illness.

Born June 14, 1939, in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Paul and Kathryn Lewis Souleyrette. He was a retired meat-cutter who worked 40 years at Kroger and an active member of Mount Freeman Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Terrell Souleyrette; two sons, Donald Eugene Souleyrette of Winchester (formerly of Lexington) and Samuel DeWayne (Janet) Souleyrette of Danville; two sisters, Eloise (Cricket) Lay of Junction City and DeLayne Westerfield of Danville; and three grandsons, Hagen, Alex and Ariel. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy S. Porter and Paula S. Durr; and a brother, Eugene (Gene) Souleyrette.

MORELAND - Leo Statom, 64, of Danville, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 12, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 22, 1942, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Smith Statom. He owned and operated Statom’s Auto Sales in Danville for 35 years and was a member of numerous auto auctions. He was a member of Indian Hills Christian Church where he was a server, a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge and served on the board of directors at ADESA. LANCASTER - Raymond Thompson Jr., 81, of Fall Lick Road, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Lexington.

Born May 12, 1925, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was the son of the late Raymond and Marie Cummins Thompson. He was a retired electrician with the State of Kentucky, had been a former Kentucky State Police officer, worked for GTE and was a farmer. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of Lancaster Christian Church where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Helen M. Thompson; two daughters, Brenda Watts (Barry) of Preachersville and Donna Volpe of Lancaster; a son, Frank Oakes (Carlene) of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; three grandchildren, Troy Watts (Tonya) of Preachersville, Teresa Volpe Hill (Greg) of Poosey Ridge and Rachael Volpe Russell (Joseph) of Lancaster; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryce McCulley officiating. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Troy Watts, Greg Hill, Joseph Russell, Billy Collins, Joe Reynolds and John Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Merle Jackson, Johnson Price, Jenny Lynn Whitaker, Shirley Leachman, Burl Cornelius, Wilma Cornelius, David Moss, Loraine Harden, Shelton Moss, Eva June Wilson, Dean Underwood and John Thompson.

Born Oct. 4, 1919, in Casey County, he was the son of the late D.C. and Bessie Montgomery Turpin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Traylor Turpin, a son, Donald Turpin; and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Elvin Turpin; four daughters, Bea Edwards, Betsy Watson, Jerline Watson and Deanie Edwards; sisters, Helen Peyton and Nellie Fisher; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild, Shelby McQueary.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Arthur Selch and Mitch Adams. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - Mr. Elmore Wardlow, 75, of Stanford, Ky., passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007, at his home. He was the husband of the late Eloise Murrell Wardlow who preceded him in death on July 10, 2001.

He was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Crab Orchard, Ky., to the late William L. and Nonearl Dishon Wardlow. He was a retired truck driver for Roadway Express, having logged more than 3-million miles without an accident. Elmore was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church and Crab Orchard Masonic Lodge No. 636 F&AM. Elmore loved to show Tennessee Walking Horses.

Survivors Include his best friend, Mary Wardlow Reynolds; three sons, Anthony Wardlow and Jeff and wife Cynthia Wardlow, both of Stanford, and Bill and wife Pam Wardlow of Morehead; a sister, Margie, and husband Bobby Bishop Sr. of Brodhead; a brother, Jim, and wife Margie Wardlow of Crab Orchard; and four grandchildren, Katie, Christopher, Kayla and Jeffery.

Pallbearers Include Jeff, Bill, Christopher and Jeffery Wardlow, Bobby Bishop Sr. and Bobby Bishop Jr.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Dale Denton. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery with military honors by the Caswell Saufley American Legion Post No. 18 of Stanford.

Survivors include sons, Arthur and Virgil H. Snow, and Robert Glen; a stepson, Mike Webb; daughters, Belinda K. Mitchell and Dwanna Summers; stepdaughters, Mitzi Webb and Vickie Webb; brothers, Joe, James and Marshall Patterson; sisters, Edith Snow, Wanda Patton, Katie Sims and Maxine Greer; 25 grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Virgil E. Snow and James "Bubby" Webb.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Locust Grove Baptist Church. Burial will take place at K.P.Hall Cemetery

STANFORD - Services for Allie Mae Woodall, 79, of Shea Villa Apartments, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Stanford Baptist Church by Hillard Foster and Mark Hester. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Born Nov. 9, 1924, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Mark T. and Elsie Van Winkle Mullins. She was a caretaker for the elderly and a member of Stanford Baptist Church and Lincoln County Senior Citizens. She was the widow of Willie Woodall.

Survivors include three daughters, Thelma Blanton and Lucille Williams, both of Waynesburg, and Barbara Long of Stanford; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gary Mullins, Troy Long, Johnny and Doug Blanton, Justin Smith, Jeffrey and Bill Williams Jr. and Jimmy Walls.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home and after noon Saturday at the church.

Born Jan. 27, 1935, in Lincoln County, he was a son of Edith Carrier Young of Stanford and the late Willie T. Young. He was a farmer, a member of Mount Moriah Christian Church and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rhodus Young of Stanford; two sons, Vic Young Sr. (Donita) and Bruce Young, both of Stanford; a daughter, Anita Sims (Jimmie) of Waynesburg; a brother, Robert Wayne Young of Stanford; a sister, Linda Borden (J.W.) of Winchester; and three grandchildren, Hannah Sims, Ben Young and April Vickers.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs: Johnny Thompson and Brad King. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ben Young, Frank Rhodus, Larry Joe Long, Brian Gover, Johnny Smith and Tim Young.
