STANFORD - Lorn E. Atwood, 96, of Stanford, died Monday at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born Oct. 19, 1910, in Casey County, he was a son of the late William Emerson Atwood and Murtie Brown Atwood. He was a farmer and a Methodist. He was the widower of Susie Beatrice Atwood and Bettie Atwood.

Survivors include a son, Lowell Atwood (Barbara) of Stanford; two daughters, Louise Stafford (Cecil) of South Port, Ind., and Donna Todd (Bill) of Indianapolis, Ind.; special friends, John and Dee Sims; 10 grandchildren; 12 grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim Erwin. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Roger Kelley, Mike Stafford, Steve Hollowell, Paul Epling, Jerry Atwood and Freddie Fox.

SALINE, Mich. - Kimberly Lynn Bailey of Onsted, Mich., passed away Feb. 14, 2007.

She was born May 17, 1960, to Roy Lee and Lucille (Wallin) Berry in Stanford, and they preceded her in death. Kim was employed by Ford and she loved to cook, care for her loved ones, NASCAR, the color orange and Tony Stewart.

Kim is survived by her beloved husband, Clint.

She is the dear mother of Erica R. Hampton (Tony Zervogiannis) of Ann Arbor, Mich., James D. "JD" and Rachel V. Meehling, both of Onsted. She is the loving grandmother of Alexander Zervogiannis and dearest sister of Wayne (Angie) Berry, Larry Berry, Tammy (Ronnie) Smith and Mitzi Lucas, all of Kentucky.

Memorial visitation is 2-4 p.m. today, Feb. 18, 2007, with the memorial service at 3 p.m. at Robinson-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, 301 East Michigan Ave., Saline, Mich. with the Rev. Gordon Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the family.

Her unconditional love, humor and kindness will be missed.

STANFORD - Mack Samuel Brock, 49, of Stanford, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 26, 1957, in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Ira and Lola Hazlett Brock. He was a general contractor.

Survivors include two brothers, Junior Brock of Villarica, Ga., and Lige Brock of Lancaster; and three sisters, Sue and Jane Brock, and Marie Robinson, all of Stanford.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

STANFORD - Lloyd Alfred Brown, 85, of Stanford, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Dec. 19, 1921, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Morris and Ella Menifee Brown. He was a farmer and carpenter, and a World War II veteran. He also was a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Martha Brown of Stanford; two daughters, Peggy Ray of South Fork and Paula Terry of McKinney; a brother, Joseph "Jack" Brown of Stanford; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Kenneth and Raymond Brown; a sister, Edith Blankenship; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Fox Funeral Home by G.W. Smith and Gary King. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Timothy Godbey, Josh and Aaron Brown, and Russell, Tommy and Buddy Schuler.

STANFORD - Haril Burton, 53, of Hustonville, died Monday at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born July 9, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Haril and Ruth Sinclair Burton and a former employee of Texas Instruments.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Lynn Reed Burton of Hustonville; a daughter, Lisa Lynn Adams of Dayton, Ohio; three brothers, Lonnie and Tommy Burton, both of Dayton, and Ronnie Burton of Lexington; a sister, Bonnie Humphries of Hustonville; and a granddaughter.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Green River Pentecostal Church by Rick Naylor. Burial will be in Angel Ridge Cemetery.

CARRIER, Ivan D.

1950-2007

MORELAND - Ivan Dale Carrier 56, of Hustonville, died Tuesday, March 20, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1950, in Lincoln County, he was the son of Edith Crowe Carrier of Hustonville and the late Ivan Herbert Carrier.

He worked for L&N/CSX Railroad for 24 years, was a member of Westside Community United Methodist Church, Quail Unlimited, National Rifle Association and the Bluegrass Sportsman Club.

Survivors include his wife, Regina McWhorter Carrier; one son, Marshall Carrier of Stanford; one daughter, Nicole Carrier Hoseclaw of Hustonville; two sisters, Brenda Wilson of Hustonville and Barbara Richey of McKinney; and two grandchildren, Karsyn Paige Hoseclaw and Cole Preston Carrier.

Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Westside Community United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ken Hughes. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

COERS, Michael

LOUISVILLE - Michael Coers, 62, of Louisville, formerly of Covington, died Sunday at his home after a long illness.

Coers, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., was a prize-winning photographer for The Courier-Journal, who helped the newspaper win two Pulitzer Prizes. During the busing demonstrations in Louisville in the mid-1970s, his photo of a white child and a black child together in a classroom became an icon of reconciliation and the lead image in the package the newspaper sent to the Pulitzer jury.

He was the son of the Rev. Morris H. Coers, founder of the Garden of Hope, Covington, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Covington. He was a 1966 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.

He is survived by his former wife, June Clausen Coers of Louisville; son, John Coers (Selene) of Ottenheim, Ky.; and grandchildren, Jessica and Deanna Coers.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Pearson Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, with burial to follow in St. Sylvester Cemetery in Lincoln County, Ky.

STANFORD - "Lib" Coontz, 72, of Junction City, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 20, 1934, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Riley and Hazel Rexroat Turner. She was a homemaker, member of Worldstown Church of God and the widow of James "Luke" Coontz.

Survivors include a son, James (Judy) Coontz of Junction City; a son-in-law, Dale Privett of McKinney; five brothers, Donnie Turner of Moreland, Larry Turner of Lexington, Ricky Turner of Berea, and Sam and James "Sparky" Turner, both of Danville; five sisters, Alice Byrd and Margaret Goodlett, both of Harrodsburg, Susie Jones of Perryville, Carolyn Turner of Danville and Patricia Hume of Harrodsburg; a grandchild, Elizabeth Hall; a great-grandchild, Brittney Hall; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Privett.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Floying Thompson Jr. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery.

Dorothy Lee "Dot" Lawson Dailey, 81, of Danville, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2007, in Boyle County.

Born Friday, March 5, 1926, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Ebbie Lawson and Pearl Price Owens. Dot was a homemaker, a former employee of Parks Belk in Danville and a member of First Christian Church. Dot was the widow of Henry Dailey Jr.

Survivors include her son, Henry (Carol) Dailey of Elizabethtown; a brother, Ebbie (Florence) Lawson Jr. of Lexington; a sister-in-law, Ruth Dailey of Stanford; two grandchildren, Janelle Poppe and Rebecca Gardner; and five great-grandchildren, Abbe Clark, Zachary and Chad Gardner, and Kevin and Sean Poppe.

Dot was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Antel.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Danville, by Dr. Jerry Shepard and the Rev. Kristina Stuckel. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home.

Ina Terry Douglas, 78, of Bellview Street, Junction City, formerly of Hubble, died Monday, Feb. 26 at her residence.

A native of Jewell, KS., she was born March 18, 1928 to the late Sidney and Dottie Blevins Terry. She was a seamstress, farmer, artist, carpenter, and avid flea marketer. She loved flowers and gardening, was of the Baptist faith, and the widow of Donald F. Douglas.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda Neal of Junction City, Connie (Monte) Davidson of Stanford, Claudia (Joe) Miracle of Broughtontown, and Dottie (Tim) Roach of Danville; sister, Lindell Stanley of Moreland; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, March 1) at 11 a.m. at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Adam Neal, Shane and Joseph Miracle, Mary Carter, Justin Worthington, Adrian Colyer, and Jeff Douglas.

STANFORD - Virginia Lee Downs, 71, of Stanford, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born March 12, 1935, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late William Samuel and Ruby Dean Craig Cox. She was a homemaker, a member of Gilberts Creek Baptist Church and former employee of American Greetings. She was the widow of Ernie "Pug" Downs.

Survivors include a son, Rick (Louise) Crowe of Stanford; two stepdaughters, Diane Rom of Rochester, Ind., and Jackie Crawford of Shelbyville; four brothers, Bruce Cox of Junction City, James W. Cox of Danville, and Warren Cox and James Michael Cox, both of Forkland; four sisters, Francis Leffew of Mitchellsburg, Mary Ann Hollon and Jessie Huff, both of Danville, and Charlotte Ulmer of Tennessee; two grandsons; seven step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 22 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, William Samuel Jr., Hayden, "Buster" and Henry Logan Cox.

LIBERTY - John Durham, 84, of Hustonville, formerly of Yosemite, died Sunday at his home.

Born Aug. 18, 1922, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Roscoe and Ruthy Raney Durham. He was a former Casey County teacher and Lincoln County school principal. He also was a former minister of House of Prayer in Yosemite.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bonnie Maxine Goforth Durham; a daughter, Marsha Carol Brewley of Hustonville; three grandchildren, Johnny Douglas, Scott Durham and Susan Lee; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Katie Douglas, Kyle Denson, and Heather, Chris and Macie Lee; a brother, Chester Durham of Somerset; and two sisters, Jeanette Thompson of Danville and Mary Lou Lyons of Waddy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Garry Wayne "Luke" Durham; five sisters, Laura Sweago, Wauneda Thompson, Ellen Durham, Brenda Galloway and Shelby Jean Durham; and three brothers, E.C., Clayton and Richard Durham.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bartle Funeral Home by Wayne Naylor. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery with military rites by Casey County Funeral Squad.

B. Marguerite Edwards, 91, of South Fifth Street, Danville, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Monday, Aug. 30, 1915, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Riley Austin Edwards and Clara Mae Grubbs Edwards. She was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Edwards retired from Corning Glass after 26 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Jean (Herbert) McGuire of Danville; a grandson, Kevin (Betty) McGuire of Danville; a granddaughter, Kelly Darland (Danny Bottom) of Harrodsburg; great-grandsons, Ryan, Joe and Cooper McGuire; great-granddaughter, Maggie Darland; and two special nieces, Marilyn (John) Houchin and Martha (Tom) Foster.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn infant daughter.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Dr. Tommy Valentine officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home.

STANFORD - Henry John Estes, 93, of Stanford, died Thursday at Golden Living Center.

Born June 28, 1913, in Whitley County, he was a son of the late Charles and Georgia Byrd Estes. He was an employee of a paper manufacturing company and a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Willow Grove Baptist Church. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge 60.

Survivors include his wife, Addie Malinda McKeehan Estes; a son, Shelby Allen Estes (Patricia) of Newport, Mich.; a daughter, Donna Sue Smock of Stanford; two brothers, Walter B. Estes of Pleasant View, Ky., and Harold Estes of Georgia; a sister, Bobbie Jean Oakes of Pleasant View; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a stepgranddaughter; and three step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Boyd Estes; and a grandson, Kelly Scott Smock.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Willow Grove Baptist Church by the Revs. Dale Denton and Brad King. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs.

GIVENS, Neppie Gayle

Neppie Gayle Givens, age 77, of Lexington, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the Tanbark Healthcare Center in Lexington.

She was born July 30, 1929, in Lincoln County, the only daughter of George Ewalt Givens and Mary Crews Givens. Death was caused by complications of multiple ailments.

Gayle graduated Stanford High School in 1947; was employed at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf from 1948-49; with the State of Kentucky Legislative Research Division 1949-58; the General Telephone Company 1958-87; and retired in 1987. Governor Wetherby commissioned her a Kentucky Colonel in 1955. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lexington, and a volunteer at the Lexington Methodist Mission.

She is survived by two brothers, Col. Joseph Ewalt Givens (Paula) of Enterprise, Ala., and Jack Carpenter Givens (Marquerite) of Houston, Texas; two nephews, George and Paul Givens; three nieces, Cheryl Field, Bromleigh Naftel, and Malinda Burke; and nine grandnephews and nieces. Her namesake is 2-year-old, Leili Gayle Givens.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, at Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Fox Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joan Smith, Mildred Gooch, Mary Fred Schnitzler, Betty Arnold, Louise Cornish, Liz Wheeler and Jody Grimes.

Contributions in Gayle's honor may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lexington or the New Beginnings United Methodist Church in Stanford.

Born March 8, 1953, he was the son of Herbert Gooch and the late Mary Lee McKee Gooch. He was an electrical lineman and member of the Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Coleman Gooch; a step-son, Jason Barnett of Stanford; a step-daughter, Jennifer DeBoard of Lancaster; a brother, Jeffrey Gooch; two sisters, Gainell Sue Gooch and Maisie Gooch Napier, all of Kings Mountain; a step-grandchild, Alysa DeBoard; a great-grandchild; seven nieces; and six nephews.

STANFORD - Gary Hoyt Griffith Sr., 71, of Stanford, died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 24, 1936, in Riverside, Calif., he was the son of the late Hoyt and Geneve Sankey Griffith. He was a general contractor and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Griffith Jr. and Ricky Griffith; two step-sons, Ronnie Ege Jr. and Everett Ege; three daughters, Cindy and Audrey Griffith, and Marian Broce; two step-daughters, Louise and Kathy Joseph; an adopted daughter, Roxie Nelson; a brother, Larry Wright; 10 grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.

CRAB ORCHARD - Elsie J. Irvin Hendrickson, 91, of Crab Orchard, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation in Brodhead. She was the widow of Granville Pearl Hendrickson.

Born on April 11, 1915, in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Dortha Turner Irvin. She was a member of Crab Orchard Church of God.

Survivors Include a daughter, Eula King of Crab Orchard; a son, William Alvin, and wife, Kathryn Hendrickson of Kirkland, Ill.; three daughters, Dorothy Robinson of Crab Orchard, Edith and husband Cornelius Strickland of Williams, Ore., and Diane and husband Regal Baldwin of Crab Orchard; son-in-law, Clyde Simspon of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Doris and husband Isaac Acton of Eubank, and Vernice Yantz of Waynesburg; 19 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 40 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Granville Pearl Hendrickson Sr.; parents, Edmond and Dortha Irvin; three children, Roy Lee Hendrickson, Granville P. Hendrickson Jr. and Mildred Simpson; six grandchildren; brothers, Everett, Raymond, Joe, Homer, Bill, Leonard and Elza "Bud" Irvin; and sisters, Lillian Irvin and Velma Reynolds.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at McKnight Funeral Home by Robert Nicholson and Cecil Roundtree. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

HOSKINS, Jeanette Alice Talbott

1923-2007

Jeanette Alice Hoskins, age 83, of Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, formerly of Mitchellsburg, Ky., passed away Monday, March 5, 2007, at her son's residence.

Jeanette was born Friday, July 27, 1923, in Rockcastle County, Ky., to the late Alric and Nellie Taylor Talbott. She was a homemaker and former employee of Churchill Weavers in Berea. She was also a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Flatwoods, Ky. She lived in Madison and Garrard Counties with her first husband, Bill Burton, until his untimely death in 1957. She then married Millard Hoskins in 1959. They farmed in Garrard, Mercer, and Lincoln counties until they retired happily in Garrard County in the mid-1970s. Jeanette moved to Mitchellsburg, Ky., after Millard's death in 1996. She lived there several years until a fall forced her to live with her son, BR Bonny, in North Carolina.

Survivors include her son, Bill R. Bonny of North Carolina; a stepson, Harold Hoskins of Salem, Conn.; three sisters, Freda and Faye Preston, both of Mitchellsburg, and Kristine Townsend of Lawrenceburg; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Fox Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Shockley officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Zane and Tab Bonny, Frank Lechwart, Corey and John Thomas Edwards and Mitch Preston.

Jeanette passed quickly and suffered little. She is now at her journey's end. Bye Mom, we will miss you. With love, the family.

Wilma Wayne Napier Howell, 99, of Salem, IN., died Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Washington County Memorial Hospital in Indiana.

A native of Sturgeon, she was born Jan. 15, 1908 to the late William Henry and Clara Frances Hughes Napier. She was a farmer, an elementary school teacher in both Kentucky and Indiana, a retired cartographer draftsman for the Census Bureau, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of Busing Memorial Church in McKee and the American Legion Auxiliary. Howell was also a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star #286 in Salem, IN., and the widow of Ivan Aubrey Howell.

She was also preceded in death by two children, Jerry Lynn Howell and Margaret Leah Howell Wingler; a grandson, Christopher Macon Howell; and two brothers, Ronal (see file # 44) and Darrell Napier (see file # 40)  of Stanford.

Survivors include granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn Howell of Salem, IN.; grandson, Benjamin Howell of Kentucky; great grandson, Jacob Christopher Howell of Salem, IN.; and four nieces and three nephews of Stanford.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2 at Weathers Funeral Home in Salem, IN., at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Born March 9, 1927, in Clay County, she was a daughter of the late James and Polly Hall. She was the widow of W.A. Huffman.

Survivors include two sons, James L. Huffman of Star, N.C., and Charles W. Huffman of Cummings, Ga.; three daughters, Vedria Huffman, Janice I. Huffman and D. Jean Adkins, all of Stanford; a stepson, William A. Huffman Jr. of Florida; a brother, Abe Sams Jr.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Huffman.

Anna Lee Wardrip Jeffries, 74, of Stanford died Friday, Feb. 2 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Saturday, Dec. 17, 1932 to the late Charles Price and Georgia Mae Wilson Mercer. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Beginnings United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Willis Wardrip; and a sister, Illa Mae Kayes.

Survivors include her husband, D.L. "Jeff" Jeffries of Stanford; a son, Charles "Chuck" (Belinda) Wardrip of Florence; three daughters, Glenda Wardrip, Brenda Wilkins and Debbie Wardrip, all of Frankfort; a stepson, Bob Jeffries of Stanford; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and a step great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Fox Funeral Home with Donna Jones and Jim Reed officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Lincoln County to the late James Harvey and Eva Gover Kelley. Harold was a farmer and a member of Turnersville Christian Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Cain Kelley.

Otis Edward Kilby, 90, of Hustonville died Monday, March 12 in Fayette County.

A native of Whitley Co., he was born Tuesday, Aug. 1, 1916 to the late Frank Dalton and Laura Emeline Kilby. He was a farmer, a WWII veteran, and a member of Geneva Baptist Church.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Kilby, Jr, Lonzo Dalton Kilby, and William Howard Kilby; and two sisters Minerva Ellen Smith and Carrie Lee Dye.

Survivors include a sister, Anne Mae Hardin of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Carl Michael "Mike" McMullin, 55, of Ky. Hwy. 328 W., died Tuesday, March 6 at his residence.

A native of Somerset, he was born Dec. 22, 1951 to the late Leon and Blanche (Shea) McMullin. He was a retired Army LPN having served during the Vietnam Era and the Gulf War, and the widower of Janice (Moore) McMullin.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Gerald McMullin.

Survivors include three daughters, Amanda McMullin (Eddie) Raymond of Lexington, Abbie McMullin (Eric) Harris of Waynesburg, and Lydia McMullin of Eubank; one brother, Gilbert McMullin of Lexington; and three grandchildren, Vincent, Collin and Sophia Harris.

She was born in Crab Orchard, Ky. on Nov. 9, 1930, daughter of the late Russell and Anna Katherine Spooneymore Reynolds. She was a homemaker, member of the Assembly of God, and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by one son, George Russell Haynes of Indiana; seven daughters, Donna Mayfield of Texas, Darlene Morgan and Ruby (and Terry) Farmer, both of Winchester, Ky., Bonnie (and Romer) Keith Jr. and Pam (and David) Young, both of Science Hill, Sandra Haynes of Indiana, and Michelle (and Randy) Saylor of Milford, Ohio; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 11 brothers and sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Pennington, whom she married on July 21, 1973, and who died on Feb. 19, 2003; her parents; one brother, Marvin Reynolds; and two sisters, Dorthy Ellen Reynolds and Lora Mae Burger.

Born Monday, July 16th, 1928, in Waynesburg to the late William Perry and Viola Clay Alford. Also preceded in death by his step-father, Elmer Alford, and his wife, Lola Quillen Perry.

Lawrence was a former electrical engineer for Naval Weapons Station in Norco, Calif., as well as a veteran of the Air Force, where he served in the Military Police. He was a graduate of University of Kentucky with a degree in electrical engineering, an avid camper and a former engineer for NASA in Huntsville, Ala.

Survivors include a son, Ron Perry of California; a daughter, Melanie (James) Sims of Kings Mountain; three half-brothers, Richard Alford of Louisville, Norman Alford of Waynesburg and J.C. Alford of South Carolina; a sister, Dorthy Martin of Junction City; three half-sisters, Delores Cornett of Waynesburg, and Pat Haste and Mary Taft, both of Eubank; four grandchildren, Robert and Michael Perry, Ashley Williams and Haylee Olds; four step-grandchildren, Kasey, Kassidy, David and Kayla Sims; and a great-granddaughter, Macy Brummett.

He was a member of Pleasant Point Baptist Church, a former caretaker for Pleasant Point Cemetery, an avid UK fan and loved fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Gene Stull Phelps of Kings Mountain; a twin brother, Roger Phelps of Short Creek, Ky.; a sister, Linda (Willard) Phelps Ruckel of Gray, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Russell Richards, 75, of Hustonville, died Sunday, March 11 at Central Baptist in Lexington.

A native of Casey Co., he was born Dec. 24, 1931 to of the late George and Etta Richards. He was a retired teacher from Cox School where he taught for 30 years, a farmer, a member of The First Church of God in Hustonville, and a veteran of the Army.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Richards; two sons, Bronson Richards and Jason (Mandy) Richards both of Hustonville; and two grandchildren, Austin Dewayne and Alyssa Jade Richards.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 14 at the First Church of God in Hustonville with Bros. Marvin Hatton and James Cobb officiating. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Doug Beldon, Doug Lewis, Jason and Bronson Richards, Mike Candler, Dwight Griffin, Steve Richards and Mark Sharp. Clara Mae Earles Richey, 85, died Wednesday, March 7.

A native of Lincoln Co., she was a daughter of the late John and Rhonda Black Earles. She owned and operated a grocery store while living in Kentucky, worked several years at the Post Office in Indiana, opened The Engraving Place from 1976 to 1990, was a new member of Thompson Road Baptist Church, and previously was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church for over 30 years.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Richey; a daughter, Beverly Sue Richey; four brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include three children, Carol J. (John) Richey Davis, Raymond M. (Ginny) Richey, Nancy Lee (Charlie) Richey Terry; 16 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 10 at the G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home. Burial was in Floral Park Cemetery.

William Stanton Rousey Jr. of Lexington died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006. He was 61.
Born in Danville, he was the son of William Stanton Rousey of Stanford and the late Lucy Mullins Rousey.
He was a design engineer for Lexmark/IBM and a 28-year elder of Gardenside Christian Church.
In addition to his father, survivors include his wife, Donna Stafford Rousey; two sons, Scott Rousey (and Stephanie) and Chad Rousey, both of Lexington; a daughter, Deborah Ristaneo (and Rob) of Daphne, Ala.; five grandchildren, Robert Ristaneo, Adam Rousey, Nate Rousey, Lauren Ristaneo and Lucy Ristaneo; two sisters, Janice Randolph of Harrodsburg and Sue King of Stanford; and his mother- and father-in-law, Forrest and Maxine Stafford of Liberty.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Rousey.
Funeral services were Dec. 29 at Gardenside Christian Church by Bro. Joe Cooper. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

CRAB ORCHARD - J.D. Saylor, 71, of Crab Orchard, Ky., died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was the widower of Marcie Mullins Saylor who preceded him in death May 14, 1996. He was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Lincoln County, and was the son of Blanche Hopkins Saylor and the late Jack Saylor.

Survivors include his mother, Blanche Hopkins of Crab Orchard; a son, Delmer "J.D." Saylor of Crab Orchard; a daughter, Betty Saylor Denney of Crab Orchard; three brothers, Truman, Tommy and Ted Saylor, all of Crab Orchard; three sisters, Elsie Stevens and Lillie Parker, both of Crab Orchard, and Linda Dowell of Broughtontown; and grandchildren, Lewis and Jessica Saylor, Damon and wife Tasha Denney, Sharon and husband Randy Boyd and Karen and husband Kelvin Machal.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mack, Fred and Walter Saylor.

INDIANAPOLIS - Walker (Penn) Shanks, 72, Indianapolis, departed this life March 15, 2007.

He was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Stanford, Ky., to the late William and Cora Shanks. Walker moved to Indianapolis in the earIy 50s. He retired from GM Truck and Bus/Chevy Metal Fab with 38 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 23. Walker was a member and deacon of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Walker Ellis Shanks of Danville, Ky., and Phillip Bernard Shanks of Lexington, Ky.; daughters, Yvette Harris, Teresa (Curtis) White, Tamela Royston and Stephanie (Stephen) Quick; brother, Gene (Patricia) Shanks; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

JUNCTION CITY - Donald Lee Shearer, 73, of Junction City, husband of Peggy Mobley Shearer, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born April 23, 1933, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Edgar and Della Harp Shearer. He was a truck driver for Caldwell Stone Co. for 33 years and served in the Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, survivors include two sons, Larry (Darlene) Shearer of Danville and Tommy Shearer of Lincoln County; two daughters, Diana Shafer of Junction City and Donna (Ronnie) Coffman of Harrodsburg; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Junction City, by Rev. Paul McFarland. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery.

Born Jan. 18, 1938, in Crab Orchard, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Garrett and Beulah Elder Wilson. She was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church, Crab Orchard Homemakers, Lincoln County 4-H program and was a charter member of East End Ambulance Service.

Survivors include a son, Jay, and wife Melinda Shelton, of Waynesburg; a sister, Betty Simpson of Stanford; a companion, Charles Durham of Stanford; and two grandchildren, Lance Shelton and Kory Poynter. Her extended family includes Larry Durham, Tammy Lamb, Kim Gaskin, and Cathy, Roger, Mike, Chucky and Bobby Durham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Garrett and Beulah Wilson; a son, Garrett Lee Shelton; sisters, Mary Francis and Lou Ella Wilson; a brother, James Perkins Wilson, and extended family member, Vicky Durham.

MORELAND - John Clarence Shockley, 36, of Hustonville, died January 22, as a result of an automobile accident.

Born Nov. 28, 1970, in Danville, he was the son of Robert and Margaret Raney Shockley of Danville. He was a graduate of Danville High School, worked as a welder at Donaldson Industries in Nicholasville and was a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church where he was the high school Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and church bus driver.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Rene Cummins Shockley; four sons, W. John T. and Timothy H. Shockley, Bobby L. Norman and Michael S. Opplinger; a daughter, Jamie D. Benedict; and a brother, Anthony William (Melissa Gail) Shockley of Richmond.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Willow Grove Baptist Church by Brad King. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

CRAB ORCHARD - The Rev. Rollie Short, 94, of Stanford, Ky., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 at his home. He was the husband of Lennie Kidd Short whom he married Dec. 22, 1938, in Junction City, Ky.

Born Jan. 19, 1913, in Clay County, Ky., he was a son of the late Leonard C. and Laura Greer Short. He was a retired minister and district overseer in the Church of God, Cleveland, Tenn., Association, having served as pastor of the Lancaster, Danville and Crab Orchard Church of God. He was a retired employee of Corning Glass Co. after 22 years of service. He also was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lennie Kidd Short of Stanford; five daughters and a set of triplets, Martha and husband Bob Lay of Dunnville, Doris and husband Rev. Dan Carr of Junction City, JoAnn and husband David Elliott of Danville, Geraldine and husband Rev. Bill Wilson of Bryantsville, and Judy and husband Ronnie Shannon of Danville; triplets, Ronnie and wife Pat Short of Junction City, Bonnie and husband Rev. John Westerfield of Danville, and Donnie and wife Janna Short of Harrodsburg; his twin brother, Roy and wife Reba Short of Junction City; a sister, Diane and husband Herman Hurst of Hamilton, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Short was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Laura Greer Short; four brothers, Robert, Tom, Morgan and John Short; and a sister, Sally Boygs.

Hulen John Simpson, 83, of Crab Orchard, died Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Lake Cumberland Hospital in Somerset.

A native of Lincoln Co., he was born Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1924 to the late Beckham and Geneva Brown Simpson. He was a farmer, WWII Army veteran, and a member of Charley Company, the 202 Engineers and the Mt. Zion Church of Christ.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Genton Simpson; brothers, Denver, Jack and Claude Simpson; and a sister, Faye Cruz.

Teddy Olan Todd, of Stanford, son of the late Elmer and Erba Davis Todd, was born on July 26, 1929, in Eubank, and departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2007, at the Fort Logan Hospital, Stanford, at the age of 77 years.

He was a retired laborer for the Kirby Vaccum Dealership in Somerset and a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War.

He is survived by his daughter, Tonya Howell of Waynesburg; a brother, Eddie Todd of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Alene McWilliams, Indianapolis; a half-sister, Hazel Goffe, of Dayton, Ohio; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Stevens Todd, who died on May 25, 1994; his parents; two sisters, Rubel Blankenship and Jeffie Cromer; and a half-brother, Ernie Todd.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Arnold Larkin officiating.

Born Aug. 21, 1929, in Granite City, Ill., she was the daughter of the late James L. and Clara Barton Walker. She was a grocery store clerk and the widow of Frank Hill Willoughby, who preceded her in death Dec. 18, 2006.

Born Jan. 11, 1952, in Danville, he was the son of the late Robert Earl and Shirley June Floyd Young. Floyd was a 1971 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, a U.S. Navy veteran, was employed by Corning Glass Works in Danville and enjoyed drawing art and making jewelry.

Survivors include a brother, Russell Young of Richton, Miss.; a sister, Karen (Shelby) Lakes of Stanford; two nieces; and two nephews.
