Rev. Charles J. Alford, 85, of Florence, died Tuesday June 5 at his home. He retired after 33 years as a minister. He was former pastor at the Union Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Walton, DeHaven Memorial Baptist Church, LaGrange, and Wilmer Avenue Baptist Church, Anniston, Ala. He was a graduate of Moody Theological College. He was formerly moderator of Sulphur Fork Association, a member of the executive board of the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky and Civitan Club in Anniston, and trustee of the Kentucky Baptist Childrens Home, Glendale.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Davis Alford; a brother, Omer Alford of Hickory Corner, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to DeHaven Memorial Baptist Church.

William David Arnett Sr., 40, of Waynesburg, KY formerly of Shepherdsville, KY, passed away July 17, 2013 in Shepherdsville, KY. He was born September 23, 1972 in Louisville, KY to Gleason and Molane Arnett. He was a very sensitive, caring, and loving son, was a former volunteer firefighter, and grew up in First Unitarian Church in Louisville, KY.

Survivors include his parents; Gleason and Molane Arnett of Shepherdsville, KY, his wife; Shirley Arnett of Waynesburg, KY, one son; William David Arnett Jr. of Waynesburg, KY, 3 stepsons; Edward Toohey, Christopher Toohey (Lyndsey) and Charles Toohey (Rebecca) all of Stanford, KY, 3 stepdaughters; Michelle Yaslick (Jason) of Largo, FL, Lisa Marie Toohey, of Waynesburg, KY, and Danielle Hulett (Clayton) of Lancaster, KY, one sister; Angela Arnett of Waynesburg, KY, 10 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, July 19, 2013 from 4:30-9:00pm at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel (Stanford). A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Mintonville Methodist Church located on KY HWY 843 in Mintonville, KY at 11am with Reverend Jason Hardy officiating. The funeral procession will depart Spurlin Funeral Home at 9:30am. A fund has been set up for Mr. Arnett's three year old son (William David Arnett Jr.) at First Southern National Bank in Stanford, KY for memorials in lieu of flowers.

Dorothy Mae Denson Brock, 83, of Crab Orchard, passed away at her home Tuesday, July 2, 2013.She was the wife of Stanley Brock, whom she married on May 10, 1947.

Born Jan. 26, 1930, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Ivan and Oma Griffin Denson. Dorothy was a faithful member of Ephesus Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter and loved to can.

She also enjoyed working in her flowers, watching and feeding hummingbirds, and loved her loyal cat, Oreo.

Survivors Include her husband of 66 years, Stanley Brock of Crab Orchard; a daughter, Barbara (Eddie) Foley of Walton, Ky.; three sons, Jerry (Loretta) Brock of Stanford, Dennis (Carol) Brock of Williamstown, Ky., and Roy (Barbara) Brock of Crab Orchard; a brother, Frances Denson of Crab Orchard; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great- grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil, Eugene, Charlie and Jimmy Denson; and three sisters, Ruth and Eva Denson, and Bertha Hendrickson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Bro. Chester Cornett and Bro. Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andy and Ben Brock, Sam Sims, Jim Harrison, Dacon Foley, David Bullock, Shawn Sizemore and Brandon Pennington.

Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Joanna Sizemore, Kelly Harrison, Rebekah Bullock, Sarah Pennington, Lindsay Brock Sims, Cheyenne Brock and Raychel Brock.

Mary Eva Calla, 76, of Princeton, N.J., passed away Friday, July 5, after a brief illness.

Born Jan 3, 1937, in Waynesburg, Mary was a daughter of the late Howard and Dana Hoseclaw. She retired from NJ Bell on Feb. 14, 1987 after 30 years of service, then she worked part-time for 15 years for the Catholic Order of Vincentians at St Joseph’s Seminary from which she was also retired. Mary was an avid reader and she enjoyed her flower garden and traveling with her husband Sam.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, James and Paul Hoseclaw; and one sister, Lillie Mae Ahl.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Sam Calla of Princeton, N.J.; one sister, Naomi Ruth DeMore of Hammonton, N.J.; a niece, Donna Smith of Atco, N.J.; a host of cousins and nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Funeral services were July 12 at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home in Princeton, N.J. Burial was in St Mary’s Cemetery in Trenton, N.J.

Bro. Charles C. Cloyd, 73, of Stanford, died Thursday, July 4 at Fort Logan Hospital.

Charles was the eldest son of the late Josephine Singleton Cloyd and Sam Cloyd. He organized the B. & B. Sportman’s Club and worked at Boone’s Hardware and Seed Store, National Casket and Phillips Lighting. He was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Bernice Helm Cloyd; one daughter, Rhonda Cloyd; two sons, Kendall C. Cloyd and Kenneth W. Cloyd, Sr.; three sisters, Betty (George) Logan, Lorraine Alcorn and Kathy Neely; two grandsons, Kenneth Cloyd, Jr., and Jaiden Cloyd; one great grandson, Cairo Cloyd; and several in-laws and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were July 8 at Bethel A.M.E. Church. Burial was in Simpson Cemetery.

Timothy Lee "Timmy" Coleman, 40, of Hustonville, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at home.

He was born February 19, 1973, in Somerset, Ky., to Robert Lee "Boggie" and Joyce Padgett Coleman. He was the widower of the late Gwenith Moore Coleman and was an avid NASCAR Fan.

In addition to his parents, survivors include one daughter, Katrina Lee (Derrick) Cochran of Harlan, Ky.; one step-son; Casey (Taylor) Smith; two step-daughters, Felicia (Randy) Wilcher and Ashley (Johnny) Denney, all of Stanford, Ky.; three brothers, Jeff (Michelle) Douglas of Stanford, Ky., Todd (Susan) Coleman of McKinney, Ky., and Troy Coleman of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Donna (David) Douglas of Cartersville, Ky., and Renee Douglas Roberts of McKinney, Ky.; one grandchild, Jaylee Cochran; one very special nephew, Joe (Marie) Brown of McKinney, Ky.; several very special nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6. at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel in Stanford, with the Rev. Vola Brown officiating. Burial will follow at McKinney Cemetery in McKinney, Ky.

Casketbearers are Donathan Moore, James Rogers, Bill Sebastian, Josh Gerkey, Joe Brown and Ricky. Littrell. Honorary bearers are Coleman’s nieces and nephews.

Andy Joshua Cooper, 79, of Kinnaird Ave, Lancaster, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at his home. He is survived by his wife Margarettte Pennington Cooper. Andy was born June 2, 1934 [Lincoln Co. KY] to the late A.J. and Eliza Lackey Cooper. He was a bus driver for the Lincoln Co. Board of Education, worked at the National Casket Company in Lancaster, and was a deputy Jailer in Lincoln and Casey Counties. Andy was of the Jehovah Witness faith.

Along with his wife Andy is survived by two sons: Andrew Cooper(Tiffany) of Lexington and James Cooper(Carrie) of Louisville, a daughter Mary Cooper of Lancaster, a brother Thomas Cooper of Ohio, and a sister Wilma Jones of Stanford. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ruby Hill Cox, 72, of Macey Avenue, widow of Elbert “Bud” Cox, died Monday, May 23, 2005, at her residence.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Cox, Corbin, Joyce Karr, Lilly, and Shirley Murphy, Versailles; two sons, Albert Cox, Georgia, and Jackie Cox, Georgetown; a sister, Marie Farris, Lexington; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, May 26, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Frankie Fitch. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. William Daugherty died at 9 A.M. Wednesday of pneumonia, aged nearly 73. She had been ill of neuralgia and rheumatism for some time but she contracted pneumonia only a few days ago. Mrs. Daugherty was Miss Mary Shackelford and she had been married to her husband, who survives, 47 years last Friday.

She had been a strict member of the Baptist church for over a half century and was a pleasant woman. Tuesday morning she called her husband and daughter, Miss Mollie, to her, and after kissing them, gave them a talk that will go far toward assuaging their grief. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Daugherty, but only the one alone survives, three sons having died many years ago. Rev. J.B. Crouch made a short talk at the house yesterday afternoon, after which all that was mortal of the good woman was laid to rest in Buffalo Cemetery.

Rosalie Dowell, 70, of Crawfordsville, Ind., passed away Friday, July 26 at her home.

Born Aug. 29, 1942, in Crab Orchard, Ky., Rosalie was a daughter of the late Henry Clay Blanton and Evelyn Reynolds Blanton Taylor. She attended school at Waynesburg and was the widow of Hubert Dowell, whom she married Jan. 16, 1965, in Crawfordsville. He passed away Feb. 14, 2010. Mrs. Dowell was a charter and faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church in Indiana. She worked at Sommer Metalcraft, Impex and then with Ben Hur Nursing Home, retiring from there. She loved to play piano, visit people in the nursing home and spend time with her grandkids.

Survivors include four daughters, Ronda (Steve Beyerle) Blanton of Louisville and Vonda (Brian) Shively, Angie (Brian) Watkins and Susan (David) Chambers, all of Crawfordsville, Ind.; four sisters, Joan Swallows, Hazel Manuel, Etta Bailey and Connie Fowler; five grandsons, Carl, Tory, Dustin, Brian Jr. and Brennan; three granddaughters, Stephanie, Megan and Danielle; and a great-granddaughter, Amy.

Funeral services were July 30 at Friendship Baptist Church in Indiana with Rev. Chris Horton officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery North.

Ernest Eldridge Sr., 76, of Waynesburg, passed away Sunday, June 30, at Kindred Health Care in Danville.

Born Aug. 15, 1936, in Blackey, Ernest was a son of the late Howard and Mary Caudill Eldridge. He was a veteran of the Air Force, a retired assembly line worker for GE in Louisville and of the Baptist faith.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Ora Eldridge; three brothers, Sam and Denver Eldridge and an infant brother; and a brother-in-law, Chester Collins.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Hill Eldridge; four sons, Ernest (Tina) Eldridge of Tampa, Fla., James William (Connie) Eldridge of Eubank, Steve Patrick (Ramona) Eldridge of Waynesburg and Billy Garrett (Julie) Hembree of Louisville; one daughter, Stephanie Mae (Joey) Thompson of Mt. Washington; one brother, Burnest (Wanda) Eldridge of Glasgow; five sisters, Betty (Charles) Fields of Mt. Washington, Jeanette (Gale) Hampton of Waynesburg, Elsie Todd of Knoxville, Tenn., Violet (Bert) Trumbo of Springfield, Ohio, and Mabel Collins of Eubank; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (July 3) at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill with Rev. Emery Caudill officiating. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Caswell Saufley Post #18 of Lincoln County.

Hazel Falconbury, age 86 of the South Fork Community of Lincoln County, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at her daughter’s residence in Kings Mountain. Born Tuesday, December 14, 1926 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest & Seleste Rowland Greer. She was the widow of the late Herbert Falconbury, who preceded her in death on February 16, 1966. She was a member of South Fork Baptist Church and was a homemaker. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking.

Hazel leaves behind one daughter, Nancy Caudill (Freeman) of Kings Mountain; one son, Larry Falconbury (Theresa) of Eubank; one sister, Opal Sebastian of Stanford; three grandchildren, Jessica Sexton (Kevin), Janie Godbey (Chad), and Niki Caudill; three step-grandchildren, David Falconbury, Michelle Jones, and Kenny Proffitt; four great-grandchildren, Austyn & Hunter Sexton, and Triston & Noah Godbey; three step great-grandchildren, Adam Jones, Tyler Falconbury, and Brandi Faddis; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Ethel Lucille Falconbury; one step-son, Eugene Falconbury; three brothers, Amos, Darrell, and Merrell Greer; one sister, Elsie Holton; and one step-granddaughter, Janice Goodpastor.

A Funeral Service will be held 3:00PM Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Fox Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Mullins & Bro. Wayne Stephens officiating the service. Burial will follow in K. P. Hall Cemetery in Kings Mountain. David Falconbury, Chad Godbey, Sherman Williams, Jimmy B. Caudill, Joe Yocum, and Daniel Harris will serve as Active Pallbearers.

Born May 31, 1937, in Greenfield, Ohio, he was a son of the late Robert M. and Helen Marie Hafer Fitzpatrick.

Kenneth relocated to Stanford in 1970 as general manager with Angell Manufacturing. He was employed in various capacities in industrial and production management, and construction engineering. He attended Ohio State University and Wittenberg University, also in Ohio.

He was an avid outdoorsman, UK Wildcat fan and a supporter of Lincoln County High School football. Kenneth used his engineering skills to build "Mr. Ed,” the cannon that was used at home football games from 1978 until the past few years, to signal when the Patriot’s scored.

He was a 40-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 221, West Jefferson, Ohio, and he was member of Oleika Shrine. Kenneth was a member of United Methodist Church in Lilly Chapel, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jo Ann McDaniels Fitzpatrick of Stanford; five children, Michael Fitzpatrick (Sherrie), Marti Brown (Mike), Mark Fitzpatrick (Gwen) and Mitch Fitzpatrick (Anita), all of Stanford, and Micki Beach (Dale) of Dry Ridge; a brother, David Lee Fitzpatrick of Plain City, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Spurlin Funeral Home. Phillip Schreyer will officiate the service. Burial will be in St. Sylvester Cemetery, Ottenheim, Ky.

Born Nov. 17, 1917, in Waynesburg, he was a son of the late Christopher C. and Myrtle Patterson Floyd. He was a farmer and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice Williams Floyd (married December 28, 1939), ; three sons, Robert A. Floyd of Oklahoma, Carroll C. Floyd of Campbellsville and
W. Gene Floyd of Shelbyville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bartle Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Corena Graybeal Frederick, 82, of 6970 S. Base Road, Commiskey, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

She was born April 18, 1920, in Campbellsville, Ky., the daughter of Joseph and Zola Reedy Graybeal. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God in Commiskey.

Surviving are her husband, Edward Coleman Frederick; four sons, Edward E. Frederick of Hanover, Anthony "Tony" Frederick of Yankton, S.D., Daryl J. and Jeffrey D. Frederick,
both of North Vernon; one daughter, Camilla Faye Law of Commiskey; one brother, Joseph Eugene Graybeal of Kentucky; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles, Herman and Herbert Graybeal; and one sister, Nina Worthington.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon, with burial in the Vernon Cemetery.

Edward Coleman “E. C.” Frederick, 97, of Commiskey, passed away at 7:15 pm on Monday, January 7, 2013, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Born November 19, 1915, in Lincoln County, KY, Edward was the son of the late Jesse Dye and Lula Florence Gifford Frederick. He graduated as co-valedictorian from McKinney High School in Kentucky in 1934. He spent one year in Delta, UT, in the CCC camp. In 1940, he married Corena Graybeal. She preceded him in death.

Edward worked at Wright Aeronautical in Cincinnati during WW II. In 1948, he moved to Indiana and began farming. He retired in 1979 from Cummins Engine Company, after 29 years of service. He was a long time, faithful member of Commiskey Church of God. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, gospel music, especially southern gospel quartets, farming, gardening, hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Edward is survived by four sons, Edward (Martha) Frederick of Madison, Anthony (Lana) Frederick of Yankton, SD, Daryl (Carla) of Floral City, FL, and Jeff (Pam) Frederick of Commiskey; one daughter, Faye (Roger) Law of Commiskey; fourteen grandchildren, Lora (Bill) Nott, Jodie (Jay) Roque, Leslie (Alan) Jackson, Greg (Teena)Frederick, Mike (Karen) Frederick, Doug (Courtney) Frederick, Karen (Larry) Chilman, Kimberley (Jerry ) Chilman, Melissa (Justin) Ellerbrook, Cindy (Mark) Hines, Daryl Frederick, Jr., Nash (Becky) Frederick, Justin Frederick,Corianna Frederick, and Reagan Hill; 32 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Edward was preceded in death by four sisters, Ella Coffey, Bertha Smith, Catherine Peck and Alma Hermanstofer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev Glenn Peck and Rev. Jimmy Albertson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.

Muriel "Vangie" Gastineau, 73, of Kings Mountain, passed away Fri., July 12, 2013, at home.

Born April 16, 1940, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Lena Gooch. She was the widow of Junior Gastineau and a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Debra Dalton of Middleburg, Donna Carman (James) and Dinah Kendrick (Lee), both of Kings Mountain, and Diane Greer (Cleo) of Waynesburg; one
brother, Bobby Gooch (Robyn) of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Collins, Brandon Carman and Dylan Lopez; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tues., July 16, 2013, at Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford. Burial will be at K.P. Hall Cemetery in Kings Mountain.

News from Lexington tells of the death of Mrs. P. W. Green, which is mentioned in the Hustonville letter, this issue. Mrs. Green formerly lived here as well as at Hustonville. A dispatch said of her death: "Mrs. Ruth Green, 52 years old, wife of P. W. Green, a cafe proprietor, died after a long illness. Besides her husband, Mrs. Green is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William Wright and a son, Liberty Green, both of Lexington; a sister, Mrs. Molly Vandiver, of Harrodsburg and two brothers, Winter and William Wright, of Oregon. The remains were taken to Hustonville for interment.

MRS. P. W. GREEN PASSES AWAY
Mrs. P. W. Green, age 52, died at her home in Lexington, after a short attack of bronchial pneumonia. She had been in failing health for a number of years and all treatment given her seemed futile. She was a constant sufferer and nothing seemed to do her any good, only for short spells. She bore her suffering with great endurance up to her dying hour. She is survived by her husband and one son, besides a host of relatives and friends here and at Lexington. Mr. and Mrs. Green formerly resided at Hustonville and conducted the old Weatherford Hotel before it was burned. The heartfelt sympathy of this community goes out to the bereaved husband and son.

William Eugene Hardin, 88, of Bagdad, formerly of Moreland, passed from this life on Saturday, July 6, 2013.

Born July 16, 1924, he was a son of the late Stanley and Julia Marie Gaddis Hardin. He retired from Norfolk Southern after 41 years where he worked as a track inspector. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, a member of Bagdad Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Harris Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Katherine Bell Hardin; brothers, Stanley “Son,” Jack and Bob Hardin; and grandson, Daniel “Buck” Marion.

Survivors include a son, Stanley (JoAnn) Hardin of Elizabeth, Ind.; two daughters, Kathy (Ray) Marion of Bagdad and Sandy (Dan) Rutledge of Independence, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jessica (Erich) Ernspiker, Philip (Andrea) Rutledge and Nathan (Megan) Rutledge; and two great-grandchildren, Dharma Marion and Christian Ernspiker.

Hannibal Haynes, aged 38 years, died at his home at McKinney Tuesday, January 4^th, after a long illness of tuerculosis. He was buried the next day after services by J. C. McClary. Mr.
Haynes was not married. He had many warm friends, who will regret to learn that he is no more.

Velma Jane Bodner Hogue, 75, of Moreland, went home to be with her dear Lord Sunday, July 21, 2013.

Born Jan. 25, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Virginia Steinberger Bodner. She retired from Oakwood in Somerset after many years of service, and from the Lincoln County school system as a bus monitor.

She was a good Christian woman and loved to serve the Lord. She attended church regularly until her health would not allow her to do so anymore. Velma loved her family and all of her grandchildren very much.

Survivors include her husband, Mark L. Hogue; a daughter, Marilyn Selby of Moreland; two stepsons, Mark L. Hogue Jr. of Virginia and Matthew (Tamara) Hogue of Moreland; a sister,
Mary Adams of Moreland; two grandsons, Paul and Michael Douglas; two great-grandchildren, Mia Alexis and Matthew Jackson Hogue; and a great-grandchild, Riley Douglas.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. David Smith. Burial will be in Moreland Cemetery.

Jewell Lancaster, 82, of Totten Ave. Lancaster, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville KY. She was preceded in death by her husband James Lancaster. Jewell was born in Lincoln County Ky to parents Sam and Mackee Delk Douglas. She worked at Cowden Manufacturing in Lancaster for over 32 years. Jewell was a homemaker and a member of Lancaster Baptist Church. Surviving is a son Ronnie Lancaster of Lancaster, a daughter Beverly Maples( Toby) of Lancaster, and a sister Nancy Proctor of Harrodsburg.

Also surviving are three grandchildren: Janilynn Maples, Rhonda Gilliam,and Rodney Shane Maples and three great-grandchildren Brianna Edwards, Matthew Gilliam, and Landon Ray. Along with her husband and parents Jewell was preceded in death by two brothers Sam and Jack Douglas and two sisters Marie Cooper and Anna Mae Wainscott.

Charles Edward Martin, 73, husband of Hazel M. Debord Martin, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 19, 1940, in Lincoln County, Ky., Charles was the son of Frank and Delphia Woods Martin. Charles was a farmer and a member of Church of Christ.

Other survivors include two daughters, Kattie Jean Martin and Jenny Lynn Martin; a granddaughter, Ava Elizabeth Grizzell; two brothers, Elmer and Paul Martin; and five sisters, Virginia Durham, Ima Jean Goggin, Eva Bradley, Glenna Fabian and Linda Curlis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Reynolds, and two brothers, Bud and J.C. Martin.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Bro. John Grizzell. Burial will be in Crab Orchard Cemetery.

McKINNEY, Mae Belle, 88, of Science Hill, died Monday, August 13, 2007, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center. She was born Sunday, January 12, 1919, in Eubank, to the late Barrett and Amanda May Singleton. She graduated from Berea College in 1940 and subsequently received her master’s degrees in English and Library Science from University of Kentucky. She was a librarian and retired from the Lincoln County School System after 30 years of service. She was a member of Eubank Baptist Church, Eubank Homemakers Club, and Ky Retired Teachers Association.

She loved quilting, gardening, collecting dishes, crossword puzzles, and reading. She is the widow of Edison McKinney. Survivors include her son, Michael (Kay) McKinney of Science Hill; four brothers, Tony & Bobby Singleton, both of Cincinnati, and Wilburn and Earl Singleton, both of Eubank; six sisters, Pauline Peace of Omaha, NE, Kathryn “Kay” Evans of Harrodsburg, Virginia Toepfert of Cincinnati, Velma Kay Decker, Norma Jean Shock and Irene Kennedy, all of Columbus, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gordan, Manfred, and Aaron Singleton; and one sister, Joyce Ann Singleton. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 am Thursday, August 16, at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. Shelby Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Eubank Cemetery. James Thomas "Jimmy" Messer, 86, passed away Saturday, July 13, at Golden Living Center in Stanford.

Born March 14, 1927, in Crab Orchard, he was a son of the late Mary Elizabeth Shaw Messer and James Baughman "Jim" Messer. Jimmy was a faithful member of
Crab Orchard Baptist Church. Jimmy loved to eat, especially eating out, and he loved to walk; he would talk to anyone because he never met a stranger. Jimmy had a special
place in his heart for Oneida Baptist Institute and he would collect and donate goods to help supply the needs of the children there.

Survivors include a nephew, Dan Stone; two nieces, Elizabeth (Bill) Anderson and Nancy (Rumsey) Taylor; and a host of cousins and many friends.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Crab Orchard Baptist Church officiated by Bro. Isaiah Super. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Mabel Kathern Mobley, 81, of Stanford, KY passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at home. She was born February 22, 1932 in Fall Lick, KY to the late Elmer Bryant and Cella James Denny. She was the widow of Brack Mobley, liked to play bingo, and was an avid U.K. basketball fan.

Survivors include two sons; Tommy Mobley (Mary) and Gary Mobley both of Stanford, KY, one daughter; Lesa Holmes Robinson (Clarence) of LaGrange, KY, three brothers; William Denny (Trudy) of Louisville, KY, Larry Flannery (Dorothy) of Lancaster, KY, Junior Brock (Mourine) of Modesto, CA, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren,2 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son; David Mobley, one daughter; Louise Mobley, three brothers; Charles, Frankie, and Paul Denny, and two sisters; Mae Neal and Ethel Benge.

Mary G. Morton, 70, of Stanford, KY passed away July 26, 2013 at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, KY. She was born August 3, 1942 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Ruth Bernard Goode. She was the widow of the late William E. "Bill" Morton, a beautician, and a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include six children; Amy Alexander (Steve) of Canton, MI, Mary Adams (David), Deanna Young (Mark), Samantha Morton all of Stanford, KY, Susan Smith (Kenny) of Bremen, KY, and Dudley Morton of Nashville, TN, one sister; Dorothy Hardin Bryant (David) of Campbellsville, KY, sixteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Billy Craig Oakes, 86, of Crab Orchard Street in Lancaster, KY passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at The Christian Care Center in Lancaster, Ky. He was born Monday, May 17, 1926 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late William C. and Alberta Lunsford Oakes. He was a member of the Lancaster Church of the Nazarene, a carpenter, he proudly served his country in the Navy, enjoyed gunsmithing, and was very dedicated to his bible. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers; Cecil and Walter Oakes, sisters; Grace Oakes, Rachael Azbill, Rebecca Gilbert, Ella Mae Rankin, Jenny Baker, and Laverne Walker, and a daughter; Marlene Oakes.

Mr. James Payne, aged 77, died at his home near Crab Orchard. Sunday, the 26 of December after a short illenss of pneumonia. He was a gallant soldier
in the Union Army, serving three years and enlisting a second time. He is survived by two brothers, Harris Payne of Crab Orchard, and Dock Payne of
Oklahoma. Also a son and daughter, both grown. He was an uncle of our blacksmith, Mr. J. F. Payne, and was a quiet citizen, liked by everyone.

Ina Mae Price Peel, 90, of Crab Orchard, died Monday. She was the widow of Forest Hamlet Peel.

Born Sept. 8, 1922, in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Dovie Mae Wilson Price. She was a former employee of Palm Beach and Cowdens Manufacturing.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Adams of Lancaster; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dallas Lee Peel, 5 brothers; Carlos, Gaines, Clarence, Ottis, Hobert Price, and one sister Jewell Price Lunsford.

Pallbearers include: Rodney, Brandon Murphy, Brad & Shawn Irvin, Bobby & Dexter Padgett & Josh Steffens. The remaining grandchildren will serve as Honoary Pallbearers.

Mrs. Sallie P. Rigsby, one of the most beloved women, of the East End of this county, died at her home near Preachersville, Tuesday, January 4^th after a short illness of pneumonia. Her death came as a great shock to her many friends, many of whom did not know that she was seriously ill.

The deceased was 60 years of age and was the wife of James Rigsby, one of the best known citizens of that section. Besides him, she is survivied by four sons, all prominent citizens of their communities.
She was a daughter of T. C. White before her marriage to Mr. Rigsby.

For many years, Mrs. Rigsby has been a member of the Baptist church at Preachersville, and in no yay will her loss be felt more than in the circle of the church which she lived so well and of which she was always so devoted and faithful member. She was a splendid wife and loving mother, and her husband, sons, and other loved ones have the deepest sympathy of many friends at ths hour of their Bereavement.

After services conducted by J. C. McClary Thursday at the Preachersville Baptist church, the remains of this Godley woman were laid in their last resting place in the cemetery there. [Preachersville Cemetery]

Imogene Neal Rowley, widow of Joe C. Rowley, died June 10, 2013, at Charleston Health Care Center.

Born Nov. 27, 1915, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was a daughter of Ola Williams and Harry Lou Neal of Dade City, Fla. She graduated from high school and
Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla., as valdictorian of her class at both schools.

Mrs. Rowley had a distinguished career as an educator in Florida for 44 years. She received her master’s degree from the University of Florida and became
supervisor of Polk County Elementary Schools. Desiring to be more involved with children, she later was appointed principal of Webster Avenue Elementary
School, spending the last 19 years as principal of Carlton Palmore Elementary School.

Mrs. Rowley was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Williams Neal and Harry Lou Neal.

She is survived by a sister, Rose Neal Edmiston of Danville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and two stepsisters.

The death of Mrs. Lou Shanks at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kirby Bourne, at New Castle, Henry County, early Thursday Morning, came as distinct and severe shock to the many friends and loved ones of this good woman at her home here. Mrs. Shanks had been suffering from bronchial pneumonia and complications for some time, bt latest repors from her bedside were that her condition was satisfactory and when the message came telling of her death, it was a great blow to all and sincer regret was expressed on all sides and sympathy extended to the members of the family in their hour of great bereavement.

Ordinarily a vigorous woman, Mrs. Shanks had lately begun to break with the passing of the years , and was unable to throw off with her accustomed ease, the attack which resulted fatally, when first she contracted a severe cold. She was in her 68^th year and throughout her long and active life, maintained the cheerfulness of youth and vigor, as a result of which she had always appeard much younger than she was.

Mrs. Shanks was born in Shelby county, the daughter of the late Hartwell Bailey, and a member of one of the most prominent families of the state. Her mother was a daughter of Neudaker Owsley, and sister of the mother of Gov. Owsley Stanley, making the deceased a first cousin of the present chief executive of the commonwalth. She was also a niece of old Gov. Wm. Owsley. She was one of five childen, her sister, Mrs. Alice Pickett of Shelbyville, mother of Mrs. William Severance of this city, being the oldest: the others were Mrs. Shanks, the late Mrs. Bonnie, of Chattanooga, Mrs. Carrithers, also deceased and Carroll Bailey, the only brother, now living in Missouri.

Soon after the civil war, she became the wife of John H. Shanks, a leasing business man, banker and citizen of Lincoln county, and she came here with him and has made the her home ever since. After his death in 1883, she remained here on her handsome farm and reared her children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and lived to see thm all honored and respected citizens of their communities.

To Mr. and Mrs. Shanks five children were given, one daughter, Rebecca, dying in young childhood [1884]. Those who survive are Mrs. H. Kirby Bourne, of New Castle, at whose home the mother was vistiting when the end came: William Carroll Shanks, who farms the old homestead at the edge of Stanford on lower East Main street; Thomas H. Shanks, a prominent lawyer, and John H. Shanks, a business man both of Columbus, Georgia. Mrs. Shanks’ father, Hartwell Bailey, was a brother of Carroll Biley, father of Judge James P. Bailey, of this city, and the other lines she was connected with families whose names have been synonymous with the early history and progress of the state of Kentucky.

In early life she became a member of the Christian church, and throughout her long life, was ever devoted to its work for the cause of her Master. She was ready for the summons when the Death Angel come for her, and behind her leaves an example which will ever be a bright and shining light for her children and those who come after them.

The body was brought here from New Castle Thursday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Bourns and after services at her home this afternoon conducted by her paster, Rev. D. H. Walker, the mortal remains were placed beside those of her husband who had gone so long before in Buffalo Springs cemetery.

Mr. Samuel Hamilton Shanks died at two o'clock Monday morning at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. C. E. Tate, in this city, to which place he was taken from the bank when stricken with his fatal illness about a month ago. It was felt from the first that he could not recover, on account of his extreme age and frail physical condition and his disease has finally thwarted the tenderest nursing and best medical skill. All of the members of his family were with him at the last.
Mr. Shanks has spent the whole of his life in this county, where he was born 76 years ago in September last. He was one of the 12 children of William Shanks and Rebecca Baughman, 11 of whom lived to maturity, and four of whom yet survive, namely, Mrs. M. A. Hocker, Mrs. Nannie Logan, Mrs. S. J. Embry, and Mrs. Virginia Grimes. His parents were of substantial Scotch-Irish stock, and came here from Virginia at an early date and settled on the farm now owned by Mr. W. H. Shanks on the Somerset pike, where the deceased was born and which has been owned by members of the family for 120 years.

His parents and their descendants have always been numbered among the most prominent citizens of this part of the state. In his young manhood Mr. Shanks was married to Miss Fanny Hocker, of Madison county, who is well remembered for her loveliness of character and beauty of person. She died about 37 years ago. He is survived by three children, Hon. W. H. Shanks, Mrs. T. A. Rice and Mrs. C. E. Tate, all of whom live in this community.

In his early years Mr. Shanks, in partnership with his brother, J. H. Shanks, was engaged in mercantile pursuits, with farming and banking as side-lines, and he was successful in all of his undertakings. He has been president of the Lincoln two have occupied that position since the organization of the bank, and it owes its success to a large extent to the financial genius of these two men and Dr. J. B. Owsley, for many years its efficient cashier. Mr. Shanks retired from mercantile and farming pursuits several years ago and has since devoted his time exclusively to his duties as bank president.

Mr. Shanks was a man of the highest order of integrity and had the utmost confidence of all who knew him. He was richly endowed with the traits that produce success, common sense that might well be classed as genius. He was of a kind and genial disposition, considerate of the rights of others, humble and unassuming, easily approachable, and liked by all with whom he came in contact. A kinder or more indulgent father never lived. His familiar figure will be sadly missed, and the whole community joins his family in sorrow because he is no more.

Funeral services will be conducted from the home of Mr. Tate this Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, services being conducted by Revs. Joseph Ballou and D. M. Walker. Interment will be in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

SMITH William A., born April 16, 1938 in Lincoln Co. to the late Allen Smith and Zephyr Hayes, died July 1, 2013. Bill was an employee of UK for 28 years and the
Fayette Co. Board of Education for 27 years. He loved to fish, be outdoors and being with family.

Bill is survived by his siblings, John (Joanne) Smith, James Henry (Roberta) Smith and Peggy Holt. Deceased siblings, Willie Mae Smith Bentley, Lucy Lee White, Albert
and Benny Bee Smith and Elizabeth Dedmon.

He is also survived by two daughters, Sherry Lynn (Jarrett) Wilson and Katina Young; four grandchildren, Adarion, Adron, Raking and Rakhya Young; a host of nieces,

STANFORD — Christene Stevens Taylor, 95, of Stanford, Ky., passed away Monday, July 1, 2013, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Ky.

Born June 29, 1918, in Garrard County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late David and Margret Anderson Stevens. She was the widow of Earl Lee Taylor.

She was a beautician since 1948 and the owner of Christene’s Beauty Shop; a children’s Sunday school teacher for 30 years; and a member of Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include one stepson, Gary Lee Taylor (Betty) of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; one stepdaughter, Phylis Jean Kitchens of Coco Beach, Fla.; two special nieces,
Jeanie Caudill of Lancaster, Ky., and Betty Baker (Ted) of Danville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Melinda Catherine Cowan, Lucy Walton and Marie Walton.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford, with the Revs. Max Hester and Greg Hancock
officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.

Cecil Todd, 78, of Versailles, widower of Betty Brooks Todd, died Friday, April 19, 2013.

Born Sept. 27, 1934, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Shelby and Emma Godby Todd. He was a retired employee of Old Grand Dad Distillery.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa (Terry) Judd, Versailles; three sons, Randy (Nancy) Todd, Lexington, Ricky (Joyce) Todd, Versailles, and Alan (Regina) Todd,
Versailles; a brother, Shelby Todd, Lawrenceburg; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Three children, Glenn Brooks, Mike Todd, and Vicky Dunn, are deceased.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, April 23, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Vera Irene Vandiver, daughter of the late Cecil Vandiver Sr. and the late Margaret Anne Vandiver, left this heavenly earth on July 11, 2013. She was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Vandiver Jr.

Irene was born June 3, 1923. She was born in a Christian home in Crab Orchard, Ky., where she accepted Christ on Oct. 10, 1936, under the leadership of the Rev. B. Johnson. Irene
was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Crab Orchard for 75 years. She regularly attended until she became ill.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory a brother, James T. Vandiver; a sister-in-law, Madge Vandiver; four nieces, Zenolia Miller, Beverly Vandiver, Perline Williams and Cecilia Vandiver;
two nephews, Ronald Vandiver and Kenneth Vandiver; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends, including a special friend, Bessie Helms.

Her funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Crab Orchard, Ky., with the Rev. Miller officiating. Interment will be at the Crab Orchard Cemetery.
A wake will begin at 11 a.m. at the church.

The following resolutions were adopted by the Central Kentucky Medical Association, at a regular meeting of the society at Harrrodsburg, KY

Whereas, God in his providenc has removed from his family and friends, our late and much beloved associate, Dr. T. Welch, a man hones and upright in all his ways,
and honorable in all his dealings, therefore, Resolved. That in the death of Dr. Thos. Welch the members of this society feel called upon to express their deep regret at the loss of
one with whom thy had been pleasantly accociated in the past.

Resolved. That the members of society, while they mourn his loss, have much satisfaction in remembering his moral worth, his devotion to his profession, and the general esteem in which he was held by all.

Resolved. That we tender the family of the deceased our most heartfelt sympathies in their bereavement, and that we bear witness to the many virtues which endeared him to all whom he was brought in contact.

Resolved. That these resolutions be entered upon the records of the society, and a copy properly authenticated be sent to the family of the deceased, and
be publishied in the INTERIOR JOURNAL and Danville Advocate.

Funeral services for Frank Wilder, 91, of Anacoco, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville with Rev. Rodney Tilley
officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Grove Cemetery in Anacoco, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011 and Friday, from 8 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Frank, the son of George A. and Ida Ross Wilder, was born on January 21, 1920, in McKinney, Ken. (Lincoln Co. KY) He passed away on Tuesday,
July 19, 2011, at Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville.
He is survived by his sons, Ross Wilder and wife, Erna of Murray, Ken. and F. Michael Wilder and his mother Betty Wilder of Anacoco; daughter, Rosemarie
Racca and husband Steve Racca, Jr., of Anacoco; grandchildren, Samantha and Kent Haneline, Steve Wilder and Vickie Angel, Tara and Brian Walters, Marti and
Robert Fleming, Vickie and Gary Wallace, Gary A. Whisenant, Amanda G. Whisenant, Ashley G. Whisenant, Daniel Racca and Jonathan and Tara Racca
and great grandchildren, Alex Haneline, William Haneline, Katelyn Fleming, Dylan Fleming and Josiah Racca.

Floyd Yocum, 92, of Stanford, KY died Saturday, July 27. 2013, at his home. He was born July 3, 1921 in Lincoln County, KY to the late Thomas and Mattie
Yates Yocum. He was retired after 21 years with Whirlpool, Inc. in Danville, KY. He was a member of the Stanford Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Anna Mae Yocum of Stanford, KY; a son, Wayne Yocum of Stanford, KY; two sisters, Virginia Shearer of Dearborne, MI
and Mildred Coffman of Danville, KY; two grandsons, Randy and Ronnie Yocum both of Stanford, KY; four great grand-daughters, Heather Secrest, Kelly Yocum, Megan Yocum
and Aimee Yocum; several nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, 2013, from 6-8 p.m., the funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013, all at Spurlin Funeral Home. Reverend Max Hester
will be officiating with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Randy Yocum, Ronnie Yocum, Wendell Harris, Harold Lee Harris, Gary Padgett and Robbie Henry; Honorary bearers will be great grand-daughters,
Heather Seacrest, Kelly Yocum, Megan Yocum and Aimee Yocum.

Lizzie Alice Yocum, 93, of Stanford, KY passed away July 27, 2013 at Liberty Care Center in Liberty, KY. She was born December 6, 1919 in Lincoln County, KY to
the late Gene and Rhoda Ellen Brown Reynolds. She was the widow of Edward Clay Yocum and was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include two sons; Tom Yocum of Crab Orchard, KY, Jessie B. Yocum of Stanford, KY, two daughters; Rosie Scharbough of Stanford, KY, Elvina
Smith of Kings Mountain, KY, 30 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons; Billy, Ellis, and Marion Yocum.

Visitation will be Monday, July 29, 2013 from 5-9pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 30, 2013 1:30pm with Brother James Humphrey officiating. Both
services will be held at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel (Stanford). Burial will be at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren.
