Funeral
services for Mrs. Lula Mae Sanders, 75, of Rt. 1, Versailles, were held Monday
at Bovard Funeral Home in Versailles, with burial in Cliff Hill
Cemetery. Rev.
Richard Burcham of the Versailles Baptist Church officiated.
She
died Saturday at the Columbus Convalescent Center after several months of
illness.
She
was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, March 5, 1901, the daughter of Carnt and
Ida Harris Oaks and married Raymond Sanders, Sr. who survives.
Mrs.
Sanders was a member of the Riple [Ripley]
County Barracks Auxiliary, World War I Veterans, No 190, who held services
Sunday evening at the funeral home.
She was also a member of the Versailles
Baptist Church.
Survivors,
besides her husband are one son, Raymond, Jr., five daughters, Mrs. Bessie [Christine]
Mae Weaver of Apache Junction, Arizona, Mrs. Mary Jewell Lay of Tempe,
Arizona,
Mrs. Lillian Jacobs of Waynesburg, Mrs. Lou Ellen Geabes of Versailles and Mrs.
Dorothy Ann Burriss of Columbus; 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren;
one sister, Mrs. Eldora Estep of Crab Orchard, and one brother, Jesse Oaks of
Waynesburg.

Born
March 14, 1918, in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late Mack Thomas
and Elsie VanWinkle Mullins. She was a housewife and a maid. She was a member
of
the Free Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a widow.
Survivors
include five sons, John Saylor of Florida, Solomon Saylor of Georgia, and Ewell,
Robert and Arvil Saylor, all of Cincinnati; a daughter; two brothers, Melvin
Mullins of Cincinnati and Bobby Mullins of Newport; two sisters, Allie Woodall
of Stanford and Mattie Wardlow of Crab Orchard; 12 grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren.
Funeral
was held May 10, at Martin Funeral Home, Crab Orchard. Burial was in Crab
Orchard Cemetery
Pallbearers
were Pearl Helton, Frank Kilby, Robert Woodall, Gerald Birchfield, Ernest
Hopkins and Dennis Hopkins.

Hoskins Saylor, 81, of 2504 Knorr Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Crab
Orchard died Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati of an
extended illness.
She
was born in Clay County on Sept. 18, 1906 to the late Matt and Verinda Shelton
Saylor.
She
was a former employee for the Frank Tea and Spice Co., of Cincinnati. She was a
member of the Spring Grove Baptist Church, Cincinnati, formerly a member
of the
Watts Chapel Baptist Church of Crab Orchard. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Hezzie Saylor on March 14, 1982.
She
is survived by a son, Charles Vernon Saylor and a daughter, June E. Hawkins,
both of Cincinnati; a brother, Edd Hoskins of Paoli, Ind., five sisters, Lettie
Frontuto of
Cincinnati, Ohio, Maggie Saylor of Paoli, Ind., Dazie Little of
Flemminsburg, Naomi Brummett of Winchester and June Genton of Crab Orchard; 3
grandchildren,
6 great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral
services were held Friday, Nov. 27 at the Martin Funeral Home with Rev. David
Calhoun officiating. Burial was in the Saylor Family Cemetery, Pallbearers were
nephews.

Curtis Saylor, 46, of 124 Lisa Ave, Danville, Ky., died Friday, November 24 at
the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.

native of Lincoln County, he was born May 8, 1943 to Sam Saylor and Melavee
Harris Saylor. He was a 25 year employee with Penn Ventilator in Junction City.
He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist, a deacon and Sunday School teacher at
Gethsemane, and a past member of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge # 328 F &AM.
Other
survivors include his wife, Eula Lee Wesley Saylor; one son, John Saylor,
Danville; two daughters, Cassandra and Patricia Saylor, both of Danville; and
three brothers, Lowell, Morris and Wayne Saylor, all of Waynesburg.
Pallbearers
were Johnny Cummins, Travis Godbey, Marty Worthington, Nellus Estes, Tommy
Messer and Johnny Preston. Honorary pallbearers were the men of
Gethsemane
Baptist Church and fellow mechanics of Danville.
Funeral
services were held Monday, Nov. 27 at the Gethsemane Baptist Church with

He
was retired from the T. Y. Shaw and Sons Scrap Yard, Crab Orchard and was a
member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.

Rosella James of Stanford and Emma James of Dayton, OH.; several nieces, nephews
and friends.

Simpson. She was a housewife and the widow of Ernest Shaw.

services were held at Ramsey Funeral Home, August 19, 1991 at 2:00 p.m.,
officiated by Rev. David Calhoun. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

Medical Center in Lexington of an extended illness.

was a truck driver, a D. J. on the radio station and a member of Mt. Hebron
Baptist Church.
He
is survived by his wife, Barbara Kendall Siler of Waynesburg; two brother, Ulan
Siler of Waynesburg and John Siler, Jr. of Columbus, Ind.; a daughter, Jeannie
Sue Hughes, Bronston; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Dan
Gutenson officiating. Burial was in
Mt. Hebron Church Cemetery.

Hebron Baptist Church.

at the Garrard County Hospital.
He
was born April 30, 1902. He was a retired State Highway employee for 22 years
and a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church.
Mr.
Simpson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mable Smith Simpson, Crab Orchard; three
daughters, Mrs. Fred Shaw, Riverdale, Georgia; Mrs. Betty Elam, Crab
Orchard;
and Mrs. Marion Hester, Sierra Vista, Arizona; five sisters, Mrs. Sally Belvin,
Mrs. Matilda Denny and Mrs. Elsie Bray, all of Crab Orchard; Mrs. Anna
Bailey
and Mrs. Elizabeth White, both of Lexington; two half sister, Mrs. Sue Thompson
and Mrs. Daisy Thompson both of Ohio; four grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.

services were held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, with
Rev David Calhoun officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Middleton.

was a Mason and Scottish Rite member. He was
owner of Sims Grocery and was a
Lincoln County constable.

include his wife, Betty Faye Austin Sims, New Salem; two daughters, Tammy League
of Lancaster and Belinda Monin of Bardstown; one brother,

Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, after a long illness, was held at 1
p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 5 at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home, Richmond. The
Rev. Frank Foster officiated and burial followed in Richmond Cemetery.
He
was the husband of Mrs. Betty Whitaker Spears and employee of Corning Glass
Works in Danville. He was born in Pulaski County and the son of Mrs. Mary Spears
of Eubank, who survives.
Survivors
also include two sons, Danny Spears and Larry Spears both of Danville; three
brothers, Jerry D. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Henry Lee of Richmond and Luther
Spears of
Crab Orchard; six sisters, Mrs. Ella Hines of Eubank, Mrs. Flossie
Schlappi of Waynesburg, Mrs. Gladys Hensley and Mrs. Tressa Justice, both of
Hendersonville, NC., and
Mrs. Verna Ledford and Mrs. Dortha Lee Ledford, both of
Crab Orchard; several nieces and nephews.

Gene Spears, 35, of 409 Crescent Drive, Danville, formerly of Stanford, died
Saturday, May 9, at Fort Logan Hospital.
A
Native of Lincoln County, he was born Sept 18, 1956 to the late Frank and Mary
Dye Spears. He was a farmer and an Army peacetime veteran.
Survivors
include his wife Teresa Woodyard Spears of Danville; two sons, Shawn and Gregory
Spears both of Danville; two daughters, Jenie and Elisha Spears, both of
Danville;
six
brothers, Owen Spears of Nancy, Harold Spears of Sidney, OH, George Spears of
Lancaster, Joe and Eddie Spears, both of Stanford and Johnny Spears of Union
City, OH.;
and three sisters, Dixie Farris of Danville and Lottie and Alice
Spears, both of Marion, OH.
Graveside
services were held Tuesday, May 12 at the Pine Grove Cemetery with Bro.
James Kidd officiating.

Rebecca
Alice Spratt, 78, formerly of Rowland, died Sunday evening, May 6 at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. Lucille Benge, Danville Route 1, after a long illness.
Mrs.
Spratt was born Jan. 15, 1901 in Rockcastle County to the late Alva and Sara
Bullock Renner. She was a housewife and a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church.
She was married to the late Frank Spratt who died in 1964.
Additional
survivors include two other daughters, Margaret Osborne of Danville and Wilma
Nichols of Fern Creek: two sons, Chester Martin of Hustonville
and Elzy Spratt
of Indianapolis, Ind.; 32 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Services
were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beazley-Raney- Speaks Funeral Home with the
Rev. John Carter officiating.
Burial
was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Grandsons
served as pall-bearers.

Fla. - Leonard A. Sprinkles, 83 of Orlando, died Dec. 19 in Orlando.
Born
March 22, 1925 in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Arch and Nannie
Sprinkles. He was a retired Army and vocational school teacher for 26 years in
Orlando.
He was a Mason and Member of Dover Shores Baptist Church.
Survivors
include his wife Nell Vanhook Sprinkles of Orlando; a son and two daughters;
a
brother, Archie K. Sprinkles of Santa Clara, Calif.; three sisters, Mildred
Carter of Danville and Alice Murphy and Nancy Caldwell, both of Stanford; and
six grandchildren.
The
funeral was held last Thursday at Dover Shores Baptist Church, Orlando. Burial
was in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Orlando.

R. Spurlin, 85, of 116 Lynnwood Drive, Lancaster, died Friday, Dec, 22 at the
Garrard County Hospital in Lancaster.
A
native of Madison County, he was born May 7, 1904 to the late George Rufus
Spurlin and Katie Riley Spurlin. He was a farmer, cattleman and landowner in
Lincoln and
Madison counties. He was a member of Richmond Primitive Baptist
Church and received the Master Conservationist Award in Lincoln County in 1983.
Survivors
include his wife, Nevelyn Alexander Spurlin, Lancaster; two sons, James Alan
Spurlin, Preachersville and George F. Spurlin of Texas; four sisters, Ruby
Downard,
Boca Raton, FL., Ann McKenna and Kathleen Patrick, both of Sarasota,
FL. and Elizabeth Cole of Venice, FL.; two brothers, Evan C. Spurlin and Thomas
Spurlin
both of Richmond; 3 grandchildren, James David Spurlin, Preachersville,
Dr. Mark Alan Spurlin, Danville, and Barry Wayne Spurlin, Preachersville; and 5
great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, Dec. 27 at the Ramsey Funeral Home with Rev. James
Crowe and Rev. Billy Estes officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.
Pallbearers
were James David Spurlin, Barry Wayne Spurlin, Dr. Mark Alan Spurlin, Marvin
Perkins, Alan Bohlman. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Barber, Roger Grubbs,

Hardy Stevens, 79, of Brodhead, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Sunday, Feb 19,
at the Rockcastle Hospital, Inc., Mt Vernon of
an extended illness.
Born
in Lincoln County on March 14, 1909 to the late Will Stevens and Irene Wren
Stevens. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Watts Chapel Baptist
Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Delbert Stevens.
Survivors
include his wife, Sarah Bell Thomas Stevens of Brodhead; three sons, J. W.
Stevens, Crab Orchard, Bobby Stevens, McKee, and Jimmy Stevens of Brodhead;
one
daughter, Delsie Brummett of Brodhead; two brothers, Lawrence Payne and Jim
Payne, both of Cincinnati; one sister, Stella Adams of Cincinnati; 11
grandchildren;
6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral
services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Dan
Gutenson officiating. Burial was in the Ephesus Cemetery.

- The funeral of Billy Stickler, 38, of the Ottenheim community was held Sunday
at Mount Hebron Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan Gutenson. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Stickler
died Friday, Dec. 19 at Fort Logan Hospital after an illness.
Born
May 1, 1948, in Lincoln County, he was the son of Cecil Lewis Stickler of
Waynesburg Route 2 and the late William Stickler.
He was a farmer and a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church.
