Thursday, December 10, 1981 - Interior Journal  

LANHAM, Nannie  

Nannie Goode Lanham, 95, formerly of McKinney, died Friday, December 4 at the

Lakeview Nursing Home in Morgantown, Ky.  

A native of Marion County, she was a housewife, daughter of the late Sam Goode and Ellen King Goode and a member of McKinney Baptist Church. She was the widow of Lansing Lanham.  

Survivors include 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were Russell Martin, Eddy Hacker, C. D. Sims, Willard Cooper, Edsel Estes and Carl Speaks.  

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 5 at the Beazley Raney Speaks Funeral Home with the Rev. John Watts officiating. Burial was in the Middleburg Cemetery in Middleburg, Ky.

LAWRENCE, G. L.  

April 08, 1887 - September 14, 1977  

Funeral services for G. L. Lawrence, 90, of Nicholasville, formerly of Stanford, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Morgan and Fox Funeral Home.  

The Rev. Albert Gisler conducted the services with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Ronnie Lawrence, Ronald Lawrence, Jesse Lane, Gary Brummett, Gene Lawrence, Danny Lane, Lloyd Brummett, Dale Lawrence, Bob Lawrence,  and Jerry Gooch.  

Mr. Lawrence died Wednesday at his home after a long illness. He was a retired farmer and was born April 8, 1887.  

Mr. Lawrence is survived by four daughters, Mrs. James Lewis and Mrs. Thomas Gooch, both of Stanford, Mrs. Vernon Smith and Mrs. Jack Lane, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; 
three sons, Donald Lawrence of Nicholasville, George Lawrence of Stanford, and Grover Lawrence of Redding, Ohio; one step daughter, Mrs. Abbie Brummett of Stanford; 
16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren.

LAWRENCE, George  

November 16, 1913 - September 25, 1988  

George Lawrence, 74, of Somerset Street died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital after an illness.  

He served on the Stanford City Council for more than 20 years. His primary responsibility on the council was to oversee streets.

Wanda Withrow, Stanford City Clerk , said Lawrence will be missed by the residents of Stanford. "He was a real hard worker,: she said, and he was noted for "being dependable. You could count on him."  

Born Nov. 16, 1913 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Gover and Mattie Evans Lawrence. He was the widower of Mary Lawrence.

He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and was retired from Stanford Oil Co. He was a former Stanford police officer and fire fighter.  

Survivors include three sons, Eugene Lawrence of Cincinnati, Ronald Lawrence of Stanford an Norman Lawrence of Lexington; three daughters, Coleen Cain, Evelyn Elliott 
and Mary Catherine Singleton, all of Stanford; a brother, Donald Lawrence of Nicholasville; four sisters, Tarvin Lewis and Retta Gooch, both of Stanford, and 
Omega Smith and Ruby Lane, both of Indianapolis; a stepsister, Ina Brummett of Stanford; 14 grandchildren; and eight [Great?]  grandchildren

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home, Stanford, by the Rev Elmore Ray. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.  

Pallbearers will be Tommy Ensslin, Wayne DeBoard, Gary Brummett, Bob Lawrence, Marvin Lawrence and Jerry Gooch.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Stanford City Council; John Hall, Sheila Kidd, Bill Tracy, J. C. Dawson, Jack Withrow and James Harris, and Wanda Withrow.

Mary M. Lawrence, 68, of 265 Somerset St., Stanford, died Thursday July 4 at the Ephriam McDowell Memorial Hospital in Danville.  

A native of Rockcastle County, she was born January 24, 1917. She was a housewife and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.  

Survivors include her husband, George Lawrence, Stanford, 3 sons, Eugene Lawrence, Cincinnati, Ohio, Ronald Lawrence, Stanford, and Norman Lawrence, Lexington; 
three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Coleen) Cain, Mrs. George B. (Evelyn) Elliott, and Mrs. Mike (Mary Catherine) Singleton, all of Stanford; 6 brothers, John and Bill DeBorde, 
Charles and Delmer DeBorde, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, Robert DeBorde , Brodhead and Ernest DeBorde, Stanford; 2 sisters, Mrs. Grover Lawrence and Mrs. Allyn Ballinger, 
both of Cincinnati, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were Tommy Frank Ensslin, Jerry DeBorde, Jeff DeBorde, Donnie DeBorde, Bob Lawrence, and Marvin Lawrence.  

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6 at the Fox Funeral Home with Rev. Elmore Ray officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery

Marshall Lay, 72, Stanford, died Friday, June 4, 1982 at Stanford House, after a long illness. He was born June 28, 1909, native of Lincoln County, retired from Stanford 
Creamery and member of the Green River Pentecostal Church.  

He is survived by one son, Boyd Lay, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Noreen Shields, Milford, Ohio; three step-sons, Charles Walls, Stanford; Marvin Walls, 
Cincinnati, Ohio; John Walls, Columbus, Ohio; one step-daughter, Mrs. Bobby Robbins, Stanford, Kentucky; one brother, Willie Lay, McKinney; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Phillips 
and Mrs. Viola Shearer, both of Stanford, Kentucky.  

Funeral services were held 3:30 p.m., Sunday, at the Morgan and Fox Funeral Home. Rev. Alfred Carrier officiated with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.  

Pallbearers were Bill VanHook, Eddy Lay, Leon Lay, Larry VanHook, Johnny Mack Brown and Leroy Wilcher.

Nicie Walls Lay, 79, of Lincoln Terrace Apts., died Friday, February 27, at the Fort Logan Hospital.  

A native of Pulaski County, she was the daughter if the late Joe and Casandra Deboard VanHook. She was a housewife and a 
member of the Green River Pentecostal Church of God.  

Survivors include her husband Marshall Lay of Stanford; four sons, Charles Walls, Stanford, Marvin Walls, Cincinnati, Ohio, John Walls, Columbus, 
Ohio and Elmer Walls, Lawrenceburg, Ind.; one daughter, Mrs. Bob "Ewona" Robbins, Stanford; one sister, Alta Lunsford, Kirksville; six grandchildren 
and one great grandchild; two half brothers, Ben and Everett VanHook, both of Somerset; and one half sister, Pearl Bullock, Mt. Vernon.  

Pallbearers were Larry, Bill, Donald, Gene, Harold and Frank VanHook.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 1 at the Beazley, Raney, Speaks Funeral Home

with the Revs; Alfred Carrier and Elmore Ray officiating. Burial was in

Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Ollie Baugh Leach, 91, of Rt. 1, Waynesburg, died Saturday, April 14 at the Fort Logan Hospital  after a long illness.  

A native of Lincoln County, she was born Aug. 9, 1889 to the late Louiza Padgett and Alfred Baugh. Her husband, Walter, preceded her in death in 1961. She was 
a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and a housewife.  

Survivors include Orbie Leach and Gracie Padgett, both of Rt. 1, Waynesburg; and one grandchild  and one great-grandchild.  

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 14 at the Barnett Funeral Home with the Rev. Vola Brown officiating. Burial was in Leach Cemetery.

Funeral services for Walter Elmer Leece of Elm St., Crab Orchard, who died Sunday, Sept 4, 1977 at the Ft. Logan Hospital, were held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept 6, 
at Beazley, Raney, Speaks and Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Elmore Ray officiated, with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery

A native of Rockcastle County, he was born Jan. 22, 1906 to the late Andrew and Betty Gaylor Leece. Mr. Leece was a retired cabinet maker and member of the Fairview Baptist Church.  

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Vanhook Leece of Crab Orchard, one brother, Robert B. Leece of New Carlisle, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Wilburn McCollum, 
also of New Carlisle, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.  

Active pallbearers were Jim Fletcher, Ernest Spoonamore, Bobby Cain, Johnny James, Newland Scott and Joe Hammonds.

Honorary pallbearers were Hugh Kirkpatrick, Morris Gaines, Ben Gains, Alfred H. Pence, Sr., Albert Manning, Harris Rhodes, Jessie Sebastin, Ottis Cave,

Mrs. Margaret Leedy, 76, of Stanford, widow of Ralph Edward Leedy, died Friday at her home after a short illness.

A native of Madison County, she was a member of Stanford Christian Church. She was a gentle, kind and helpful Christian lady who was devoted to her church and family.  

Survivors include a son, Bill Ed Leedy of Stanford; four daughters, Mrs. Ernest Schnitzler of Waynesburg, Route 1, Mrs. Sam Harris II of Stanford, Mrs. Richard 
Grimes of Louisville and Mrs. Boyd Gilliam of Danville, Route 2; a sister, Mrs. Russell House of Phoenix, Ariz. ; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morgan and Fox Funeral Home with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. The Rev. Oscar Mayes of Stanford Christian Church officiated.  

Pallbearers were Andy House, Sam Baldwin, John Baldwin, Allen Baldwin, Joe Taylor Turpin and Earl Baldwin.

LEWIS, Tarvin

Tarvin Lewis, 86, of Stanford, died Saturday, March 23 at the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.  

A native of Plato, she was born Jan. 8, 1916  to the late G. L. Lawrence and Mattie Evans Lawrence. She was a homemaker, farmer, member of 
Turnersville Christian Church, and widow of James C. Lewis.  

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, George, Grover, and William Lawrence.  

Survivors include a daughter, Renita Hampton of Stanford; sisters, Retta Gooch of Stanford, Ruby Lane of Indianapolis, Ind., and Omega Smith of Indianapolis, IN.; 
one brother, Donald Lawrence of Nicholasville; one grandson, Lewis L. (Jill) Hampton of Nicholasville; one great granddaughter, Erica Hampton of Detroit, MI, seven nieces and  ten nephews.  

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 26 at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford with Rev. David Cornish officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery.  

Active pallbearers were Harold Kelly, Curtin Durham, Jerry Gooch, George Elliott, Jr. Marvin Reed, Dickie Cooper and Donald Cain.

LUCAS, Myrtle  

Mrs. Myrtle Lake Lucas, 81, of Hustonville Route 1, died Monday, July 16 at the home of her daughter, Marcella Wilcher of Hustonville.  

Mrs. Lucas was a native of Lincoln County and a member of the South Fork Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late William Grant Lucas.  

Survivors include four sons, Odie of Warren, Mich., William Ress of Waynesburg and Elmer B. and Johnny Ray Lucas, both of Lancaster; five other daughters, Ruby 
Knippenburg of Mt. Clements [Mt. Clemens],  MI., Jean Derry of Kings Mountain, Ruth Gooch of Stanford, Martha Dennis of Stanford Route 3 and Barbara Satterly of Scottsburg, Ind., 
and two brothers, Denver Carter of Danville and O. W. Carter of Gulfport, Fla.  

Funeral was held at 2 p.m., Thursday at Morgan and Fox Funeral Home, Stanford, by the Rev. Johnny Robinson. Burial was in Middleburg Cemetery in Casey County.

Willie Grant Lucas, 82, of Route 1, Hustonville died Friday, January 31 at his home. 

A native of Casey County, he was a retired farmer and a member of the Middleburg Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Frank Berry Lucas and Mary Ellen Lucas. 

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Lake Carter Lucas; four sons, Odie Lucas of Detroit, Mich., William Jess Lucas of Waynesburg, Elmer "B" Lucas and Jimmy Ray
Lucas of Lancaster; six daughters, Mrs. Ruby Knippenburg of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Marcella Wilcher of Hustonville, Mrs. Jean Derry of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Ruth Gooch
of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Martha Dennis of Stanford and Mrs. Barbara Satterly of Scottsburg, Ind.; 33 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.  

Services were conducted at the Morgan and Fox Funeral Home Sunday at 2 p.m. with

Rev. Aubrey Eckenroth officiating. Burial was in Middleburg Cemetery.  

Grandsons, Steve Lucas, Bobby Lucas, Bobby Sylvester, Russell Lucas, David Dennis and Mike Lucas, served as pallbearers.
