Dr. Gene Doyle Bowling, 83, of 619 Owls Nest Road, Hyden, a physician for more than 30 years and father of Gene Doyle Bowling Jr., Winchester, died Wednesday at Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center.

A native of Leslie County, he was the son of the late John D. and Viola Muncy Bowling. He attended Pikeville College, received a bachelor's degree from Berea College and his medical degree from the University of Louisville. He was a Navy lieutenant during World War II and opened his medical practice in Hyden in the early 1950s.

Additional survivors include his wife, Sylvia Brewer Bowling; another son, Daniel Keith Bowling, Hyden, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden.
