Mrs. Lucy Engle Vanover, age 84, of Apple Grove, was born on June 8, 1924 at Bryants Store in Knox County. Lucy was the daughter of the late John W. and Lizzie Wilson Engle. Lucy was a former employee of Frank�s Department Store and was best known as a wonderful babysitter for many children here in Barbourville. Mrs. Vanover died Monday July 7, 2008 in the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. On December 30, 1941 she united in marriage with Homer Vanover Sr. and to this union two sons and a daughter were born. She was a dedicated member of Apple Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Barbourville where she was loved by many, and was also a member of the WMU association. Lucy was preceded in death by her loving husband Homer on July 18, 2002. She is survived by her beloved daughter Betty and husband Harold Frederick of Corbin; her sons; Homer Jr. &wife Betty of Barbourville and Jerry and wife Karen of Corbin. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren; Brian &wife Christine, Jeff &wife Shannon, Patrick &wife Sandy, Christopher Graham &Courtney Beth: Her Great-Grandchildren; Devin, Sidney Paige, Conner Peyton, Parker Boone, &Lucas Reed. Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Vanover will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel Thursday July 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Cooper &Rev. Denvil Taylor Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery with her grandsons Brian, Jeff, Patrick, Christopher Graham and dear friends, Don Brewer, Johnny Gray, James Robinson, Jeff Canady, Eric Canady, and Brent Canady serving as Pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Blair Canady, Members of Apple Grove Baptist Church, Eugene Branstutter, Tommy Hampton, and Eugene Shelton. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Wednesday July 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Hour at 2:00. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
