James Tarrant Tuggle II passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2003, being 86 years of age, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin.

He was born February 28, 1917 to the late Casandra Howard and Ralph Morgan Tuggle in Knox County. He was the grandson of James Tarrant Tuggle, a Confederate sharpshooter with John Hunt Morgan during the Civil War. A graduate of Union College, Barbourville, he worked at Oak Ridge on the atomic bomb during World War II and was a long time merchant at Oak Ridge and Pleasant View. He also taught school in Ohio. He was a deacon at Pleasant View Baptist Church for over 60 years and a member of the Gideons. He spent his later years as a volunteer grandparent for Pleasant View Elementary School.

Survivors include his daughter, Cassandra and husband, Wesley Jones and son, James Tarrant Tuggle III and wife, Norma; two sisters, Velma Davis of Georgia and Janie Hammonds of Barbourville; four grandchildren, Wesley Ray Jones Jr., Teresa and husband, Burley McFarland, Rebecca Jones and Jamie Tuggle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Davidson Tuggle and a daughter, Mary Sue Tuggle.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 30 at the Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Sester and Rev. Gary Lovitt officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Pleasant View Cemetery Perpetual Care Association.
