Billy J. Stewart, 79, of Artemus, was born on October 15, 1926 in Knox County, Ky. He was the son of the late Paul Vic Stewart and Mayme Lay Stewart. Mr. Stewart died at his residence Friday, September 8, 2006. He was a member of the Artemus Baptist Church. Mr. Stewart was a retired coal miner and retired general manager of the Regal Corporation in Tennessee. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Philippines.

Billy J. had three children: Jimmy, Linda, and William and William�s wife Debbie; his grandchildren, Danny, Jason and Tricia and several great grandchildren, all surviving.

On April 13, 1954, he united in marriage with Lois Phipps and to this union they had two daughters, Debbie and Jackie. He is also survived by a special granddaughter, Krystle.

Funeral services for Billy J. Stewart were conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel Monday, Sept. 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roger Lee officiating. Interment followed in the Stewart Cemetery at Artemus with Ted Hampton, Elbert Hampton, Allen Hampton, Steve Hampton, Delphus Lay and Wilbur Bingham serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were: Ned Stephen Stewart, M.A. Stewart, John Rex Hampton, James Harve Hampton, William Jay Hampton, Kenneth Lay, W.R. Partin, Mike Johnson, all Regal Corporation employees and the staff at the Knox County Hospital.
Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
