| Mrs. Martha Mae Hamilton Smith, 84, Barbourville passed away Sunday March 17, 2002 in the Knox County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Bettie Miller Hamilton, born on May 16, 1917 in Knox County. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of the Big Brush Creek Baptist Church. She attended the Artemus First Baptist Church. On Feb. 11, 1938, she was united in marriage with Chris Smith in Knox County and to this union nine children were born. She is survived by six children, Phillip D. Smith and wife, Gladys and Elizabeth Powell and husband James, all of Barbourville, Douglas C. Smith of Harvard, Ill., Kenneth M. Smith of Heidrick, Harry B. Smith of Barbourville and Kathy L. Hammons and husband Jerry of Heidrick; 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of others to mourn her passing. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday March, 20 with Rev. Denvil Taylor and Rev. Herman Hudson officiating. Mrs. Smith was laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Knox Funeral Home. |
