| Ellen Gilbert Smith, 98 years, eight months and eight days of age, died Saturday, June 19, 1999 in the Knox County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late John S. and Mahala Black Gilbert, born to them on October 11, 1900 in Black Water, Laurel County, Kentucky. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. On November 11, 1915, she united in marriage to Grover C. Smith Sr., and to this union four daughters and three sons were born. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Smith Sr., on February 25, 1979.. Funeral services for Ellen Gilbert Smith were conducted on Monday, June21, 1999 at 3 p.m. in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Chesnut officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Smith. Those servingas honorary pallbearers were friends and neighbors of Mrs. Smith.Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
