| ED SMITH, 82, of Jarvis, died Sunday, August 22, 1999 in the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. He was the son of the late Grover C. Smith Sr. and Ellen Gilbert Smith, born to them on January 21, 1917 in Knox County. Mr. Smith was a retired Kentucky Forest Ranger and worked for the Division of Forestry, and was a Kentucky Colonel. On July 27, 1944, he united in marriage to Margaret Lawrence Smith. On May 4, 1995, his wife Margaret Lawrence Smith preceded him in death. Funeral services for Ed Smith were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 24, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Chesnut and the Rev. Charles Douglas officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Knox County. Those serving as pallbearers were: grandsons and nephews of Mr. Smith. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: The Barbourville City Police and Dispatchers, The Kentucky State Police and the The Knox County Sheriff's Office. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
