Hettie Rains, 82, passed away Monday, August 19, 2002 at home. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, R.D. Rains, by her parents, Tom Henry and Martha Lawson, and by three sisters. Hettie was a life-long, faithful Christian, and a member of the First Baptist Church Williamsburg, where she taught the Fidelis Sunday School class for 45 years. Hettie was a graduate of the St. Paul Bible College, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Cumberland College in Williamsburg. She taught in the Whitley County School System for 32 years.

Hettie is the precious mother of four children, Tom Rains and his wife, Debbie of Williamsburg, George Rains of Atlanta, Georgia, Bobbie Brown and her husband, Bill of Kodak, Tennessee, and Martha White and her husband, Glenn of Moundsville, West Virginia, and the cherished grandmother of nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Loving sisters and brothers, Thelma Chinn and Pruda Mosley of Williamsburg, George Lawson of Pine Knot, Richard Lawson of Zephyrhills, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends and neighbors also survive Hettie.

Hettie had many interests in life. She was a published poet. She loved her flower gardens, her many church activities and she led an active prayer life praying intercessory prayer each day for friends, family and other concerns. Hettie's faith was a great testimony to everyone who knew her, and she touched many lives with her devotion to Jesus and her belief in Him. Her great faith sustained her and her family during these last months of her life and her brave battle with cancer.

Due to the renovations of the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, funeral services will be held at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Harold Mauney officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery.
