James Minor PHIPPS

Mr. James Minor Phipps, 63, of Brookside Court, Villa Rica, Ga., passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 24, 2006 in St. Joseph�s Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. He was a son of the late A.L. and Kathleen Helton Phipps, born on March 29, 1942 in Knox County.

Mr. Phipps was a member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica, where he served as an usher and attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Villa Rica Masonic Lodge #72 F&AM, the Grand Lodge of Georgia F&AM, the Cumberland Lodge #77 R&SM of Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Commandery #50. Mr. Phipps was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Barbourville Chapter #41 where he had served as Past Worthy Patron. He was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leemon Phipps and Roamon Phipps and a sister Mary Mae Phipps.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Bonnie Louise Philpot Phipps of Villa Rica, Ga.; his sons, James Jerry �J.J.� Phipps of Villa Rica, Ga. and Edward �Eddie� A. Phipps of Maryville, Tenn.; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Truleen and Larry Morgan of St. Petersburg, Fla., Louella Hampton of Zephyrhills, Fla., Donna Leach of Corbin and Melinda and Terry Southerland of Barbourville; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Codell Phipps of Columbia, Ray Phipps of Barbourville, Bolin and Marsha Phipps of Kennesaw, Ga., John Wayne Phipps of Barbourville and Bill and Lois Phipps of Corbin; two grandchildren, Marshall James Phipps and Jayla Rebecca Phipps, both of Villa Rica, Ga.; his mother-in-law, Dorothy M. Philpot of Heidrick; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

His funeral service was conducted in Knox Funeral Home Chapel Friday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Dale Phipps, Scott Phipps and Tim Phipps officiating. Mr. Phipps was laid to rest in the Phipps Family Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Billy Greg Barton, Michael Barton, Tony Hampton, Jerry Philpot, Brent Phipps, Jacob Phipps, Jamie Phipps, Jeff Phipps, Luke Phipps, Matthew Phipps, Ben Southerland, Jonah Southerland, Chris Spanglehour and Tom Spanglehour. Honorary bearers were members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and members of the Villa Rica Masonic Lodge #72 F&AM.
