Irene Broughton Mills, 74, of Gray, was born in Knox County, Kentucky on February 18, 1932. Mrs. Mills was a daughter of the late Henry Broughton Sr. and Nicey Bright Broughton. Mrs. Mills died Wednesday, November 15, 2006 in the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. She was a member of the Keck Baptist Church. Mrs. Mills was a retired Knox County School cook. On March 8, 1952, she united in marriage to Carl Mills and to this union two beloved children were born. Mrs. Mills was preceded in death by three brothers, Leamon, Homer and an infant brother, Lee. Surviving Mrs. Mills, her dear husband, Carl Mills of Gray; her daughter, Jeanett Shumate and husband Terry; her son, Don Mills and wife Marsha, all of Gray; her grandchildren, Hunter, Mandy, Brandon and Steven; her sisters, Kathleen Bright and husband C.H., Lorene Barnes and husband Larry, all of West Chester, Ohio, Forstine Mills of Stinking Creek and Nadine Smith and husband Woodrow of Indiana; her brothers, Henry Broughton and Clifford "Doc" Broughton and wife Juanita, all of Stinking Creek; she also leaves many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors to mourn her passing. Funeral services for Irene Broughton Mills were conducted Monday, November 20, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Siler and Rev. Sam Moore officiating. Burial followed in the Candle Ridge Cemetery at Gray, Kentucky, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The Mills family received friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 9 a.m. and until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. Monday. Arrangements were under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home.
