James "Jim" McVey, 77, of Hammons Fork, Woollum, was born on Oct. 3, 1924 in Knox County to the late Johnny McVey and America Gambrel McVey. Mr. McVey passed away at his residence Sunday, March 17, 2002. He was a member of the Horn Branch Baptist Church and was a well-known Knox County framer. In March of 1946, He united in marriage to Cleo McVey who preceded him in death. On Jan. 25, 1992, He was united in marriage to Sallie Smith He is survived by His wife, Sallie Smith McVey, of Hammons Fork; his children, Geraldine Fields and husband Dee, of Bimble, Bonnie Smith of Woollum, Judy Reynolds and husband Wavelyn, of Bimble, Brenda Hart of Barbourville, Sharlene Reef and husband Jack of Fairfield, Ohio, Vicki Teague and husband Kelly of Bimble and Sheila Cole and husband Lloyd of Davis Bend, Ronnie McVey and wife Janice of Bryants Store, John Chester McVey and wife Cora of Williamsburg, David McVey of Woolum; David Edwards and wife Rosie of Girdler, Bennie Edwards and wife Marie of Barbourville, Nettie Owens and husband Jack of Middlesboro, Bonnie Miller and husband Jerry of Corbin, Mossie Smith and husband Lewis of Girdler, Betsy Swafford and husband Tony of Cannon, Wilma Smith and husband Charles of Woollum, Richard Edwards of Barbourville, June Mills and husband Lonnie of Girdler and Christy Napier and husband Jeff of Heidrick, 56 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren, his sisters Gessie Grubb of Hinkle and Mary Swafford of Jarvis; and brothers John McVey Jr. of Woollum and many others to mourn his passing. Funeral services for James "Jim" McVey will conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, March 21 2002 with Rev. Owen Smith and Rev. Lonnie Collett officiating. Interment will be in the Paynes Creek in Knox County. Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
