Reavus C. Mays Retired Col. Reavus C. Mays, 93, of San Antonio, Texas, passed on peacefully in his sleep Monday morning, Nov. 15, 2004 at his home. He was the son of the late Joe and Lucinda Logan Mays, born on Dec. 14, 1910 at Mackey Bend. Col. Mays lived a long, happy and full life. During his 30 year military career, he traveled the world and participated in world War II and the Korean Conflict. He served on General MacArthur's staff in Japan. While serving in the U.S. Army, Col. Mays received the Legion of Merit, as well as many other Military honors. In his second career, Col. Mays worked for Southwest Research Institute for 20 years and retired as Personnel Director. In later years, he was a partner with his son, Richard A. Mays D.V.M., on his thoroughbred horse farm in Boeme, Texas. He was a Mason for over 50 years. He was a beloved member of the Keystone Sunday School class and Elder Emeritus. Col. Mays served the Central Christian Church for over 50 years. He was a Board Member of the Blessed Hope Academy and was actively involved with the newest affiliate, TMA Silver Wings of Learning and Creative Arts Middle School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Anne Stewart Archer Mays and a granddaughter, Dorothy Lynn Mays Kleek. Survivors include his children, Dr. Richard A. Mays and wife Carol, of Boerne, Texas and Sally Ann Anderson of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Suzan Mays Bippert and husband Daryl, Dr. James Scott Mays and wife Dr. Orla Rooney, Stephanie Anderson and Stewart Anderson; three great grandchildren, Eric Bippert, Joshua Bippert and Kaylee Mays; his devoted nurse and friend, Mrs. Sarah Connor; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing. A graveside service was conducted in Barbourville Cemetery Saturday, Nov. 20 with the Rev. C.H. Dudley officiating. Casketbearers were Dr. James Scott Mays, Stewart Anderson, Leon Disney, Homer Vanover, Jack Davis and Kenneth Cobb.
