Wanda SMITH HUGHES

Wanda Smith Hughes, 54, of Barbourville, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 in Knox County Hospital. Wanda was the daughter of Lucy Mirick Smith and the late Carl Smith born to them on November 18, 1952 in Knox County, Kentucky. Wanda was the owner and operator of Wanda's Florist for over six years. Wanda was a former member of the Sinking Valley Baptist Church and later became a member of the Salem Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Barbourville High School. On November 8, 1970, she united in marriage with Dee Hughes. Along with her father Carl, she was preceded in death by one brother,Leroy Smith and one sister, Christine Gross. Wanda is survived by her husband, Dee Hughes of Barbourville, Kentucky; two daughters, Carla Hinkle and husband Kenneth of Artemus, Kentucky; and Cindy Carnes and husband Mike of Heidrick, Kentucky; her three grandchildren, Kenzie Elizabeth Hinkle, Braxton Michael Carnes and Gavin Cole Hinkle; her mother, Lucy Smith of Barbourville, Kentucky; one brother, Ken Smith and wife Wanda of Barbourville, Kentucky; her sister, Stella Warner and husband Dale of Cincinnati, Ohio, and her other sisters; her aunts, Sally Mathis of Louisville, Kentucky, and Ellen Potter of Boone Height; her special friends, Charlotte Bingham, Ann Bain and Carolyn Smith. Funeral services for Wanda Smith Hughes were conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 6, 2007 at 1 p.m. with Rev, Sylvester Dunn and Rev. B.F. Jackson officiating. Burial followed in the Barbourville Cemetery with Kenneth Hinkle, Mike Carnes, Dale Warner, Curtis Trent, Ancil Hall, Fred Bays, Don Blevins and Roger Hughes serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Knox County Ambulance Service, nurses at the Knox County Hospital and the Kentucky State Police. Arrangements were under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home.
