Mrs. Jeree Davis Disney Hughes, 91, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 8, 2007 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was a daughter of the late James W. "Bill" and Margaret Miller Davis born on February 7, 1916 in Knox County. Mrs. Hughes was a retired elementary schoolteacher who taught in both the Knox County and Barbourville Independent School Systems. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville, the Eastern Star, the Tuesday Club and the Younger Woman's Club. Mrs. Hughes enjoyed her years in the classroom as well as painting, crafts, music and traveling. She united in marriage with Edison J. Disney and to this union a daughter was born. In 1944, Edison died during his service in World War II. She later united in marriage with Morris Hughes, who also preceded her in death in 1974. Other family members to precede her in death were three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia D. Dampier and husband, Don J., of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Deborah Lynn Arlinghaus and husband, Jay, of Burlington and David Rodney Dampier of Lexington; two great grandchildren, Afton Rae and Justin Robert Fossett both of Burlington; a stepson, Glen Hughes and wife, Billie, of Wrightsville Beach, NC; a sister-in-law and life-long friend, Marie Engle of Barbourville; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; her special devoted caregivers, Tresa, Jennifer, Shirley, Karen, Sharon, Mary and Carol; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn her passing. Her funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, March 10 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Shane Nickell officiating. Mrs. Hughes was laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Chris, Jeff and Eric Musgrave, Justin Fossett, Jay Arlinghaus, David Butcher, Jimmy and Chad Engle and Don and Ronnie Lawson.
