Oscar Hammons
(June 16, 1918 - April 11, 2008)

U.S. Veteran Oscar Hammons 89, of Barbourville, was born on June 16, 1918 in Knox County, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Charles and Sarah Smith Hammons. Mr. Hammons died, Friday, April 11, 2008 in the Barbourville Nursing Home. He was a member of the East Barbourville Baptist Church. Mr. Hammons was a former employee of Pure Oil Company in Barbourville. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. On October 11, 1942, he united in marriage to Frances Disney. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving Wife, Frances, His Son, Arthur Douglas Hammons; three Sisters and Son-in-law; Dorosal Parsons.

Mr. Hammons is survived by his Daughter, Marcia Kaye Hammons Parsons Phillips of Barbourville; His Grandchildren; Kevins Parsons and wife, Kristen, Shannon Frederick and husband, Jeff all of Barbourville and Kim Wagner and husband, Chad of Morehead, Kentucky; His Great Grandchildren; Devin, Tanner, Conner, Allison and Cayden; Daughter-in-law; Elizabeth Hammons of Barbourville; His Brother, Arnold Lee Hammons of Barbourville; and several dear Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law.

Funeral Services for Oscar Hammons will be conducted Monday, April 14, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. James Vandy officiating. Interment will be in the Barbourville Cemetery, with family members serving as pallbearers. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home, Sunday evening 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. Monday unitl the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home.
