Maxola GREGORY

Mrs. Maxola Carnes Gregory, 66, passed on to meet her Savior Friday morning, January 4, 2008 at her home in the Walker Community of Stinking Creek in Knox County. She was born on this same small farm on May 12, 1941, the only child of the late Will L. and Gertrude Bingham Carnes. Maxola was a member of the Dewitt Baptist Church since September 1960. She was a retired schoolteacher, who enjoyed and loved teaching the children at Dewitt Elementary School for 31 years. She was a graduate of Union College with both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees and had been a member of the Kentucky Education Association and the Knox County Retired Teacher's Association. On February 10, 1962, she united in marriage with Harold C. Gregory in Jellico, TN and to this union two children were born. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, William, Edward and John G. Gregory and Ted Stewart. Survivors include her beloved husband of 45 years, Harold C. Gregory of Walker; two sons, Dr. Harold Clif Gregory and wife, Tracy, and Anthony Kevin Gregory all of Walker; four dearly loved grandchildren, Jonathan, Ethan and Duncan Gregory and Madalyn Kamkar all of Walker; four sisters-in-law, Orma Gregory of Murfreesboro, TN, Edith Gregory of Barbourville, Nancy Gregory of Wyoming, MI, and Gwen Stewart of Middletown, OH; a loving and caring cousin, Gertrude Messer of Flat Lick; an aunt, Lola Hammons of Barbourville; many other cousins, nieces, nephews, former teaching associates and all her former students; a special caregiver, Jill Philpot of Walker; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn her passing. Her funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, January 6 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Brian Miracle and Rev. Earl Hammons officiating. Mrs. Gregory was laid to rest in the Green Carnes Cemetery at Walker. Casket bearers were Edward 'Skip' Gregory, William Newt Gregory, Matt Gregory, John Randall Gregory, Walter Tilmon Gregory, Todd Stewart, Steve Rhodes, Scott Stevens, Kelly Stevens, Lee Stevens and Bret Stevens. Honorary bearers were Darrell Bingham, Gerald Bingham, Wilbur Bingham, Don Bingham, Frank Carnes, Dr. Glen Mills and Pat McDonald. Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
