Ben Garland, 71, of Science Hill, Ky. died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Knox County, Ky. to the late Bill Garland and Josephine Smith Garland on Nov. 30, 1934. He was a retired mechanic and a retired self-employed mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith and he loved to hunt. He married Francis Wilson Garland on May 30, 1956 in Clay County, Ky. He is survived by three sons, Ben and Wanda Garland, Nancy, Ky., David Garland, Science Hill, Ky. and Mark and Susanne Garland, Nancy, Ky; one daughter, Cindy and Steve Stykes, Somerset, Ky.; three sisters, Helen Smith, Barbourville, Ky., Pauline Lowe, Georgia and Judy Acey, Science Hill, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Kelly Keener, Kasey Garland, Rob Garland, Chad Stykes, Craig Stykes, Anthony Garland and Alicia Garland; great grandchild, Landon James Stykes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Parker Garland; one sister, Jewell McDonald. Funeral services were conducted at the Lake Cumberland Chapel Funeral Home Friday, Sept. 8 with Bro. Boyce Dean Spradlin and Bro. Lester Randolph officiating.
