Herald CARNES Herald Carnes, 79, of Knox County, Ky., passed away Friday, July 7, 2006 in Knox County Hospital after a long illness. He was born on March 22, 1927 in Knox County, Ky., the son of the late John and Minnie Warren Carnes. He was a member of the Binghamtown Baptist Church. Herald worked as a skilled auto body repairman and owned and operated the C&C Body Shop in Pineville for many years. He was a member of the Bell County Historical Society and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a veteran of the 862nd Army Air Corp. and was stationed in Germany during WWII. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his family, which will miss him very much. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Carnes, brothers-in-law, Mike Myklak, Harold Shelton, George Shelton Jr., Nevil Shelton and Clay Powell and sister-in-law, Doris Carnes. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Melissa Shelton Carnes, two sons, Barry Diane Carnes and Herald Jr. Rosemary Carnes, two daughters, Missy Sam Mayes of Middlesboro and Becky Lewis Wilder of Miracle, Ky.; three sisters, Betty Paul Baker, Flat Lick, Hazel Myklak, Riverside, Calif. and Irene Gary Collins, Gillford, Ind., two brothers, Jim Joyce Carnes, Harrington, Ind. and Tom Ray Carnes, Mills, Ky. and a special nephew, Rodney Myklak, Tustin, Calif., brother-in-law, Charles Loretta Shelton, Sharps Chapel, Tenn., sister-in-law, Fay Powell, San Diageo, Calif.; nine grandchildren: Carrie and Corey Carnes, Middlesboro, Jami Kris England, Harrogate, Tenn., Laura Wayne Gambrel, Stoney Fork, Ky., Jessie Andy Parker, Tazewell, Tenn., Shelly Mayes and Brandt Fuqua, Schwenksville, Penn., Lionel Wilder, Bimble, Ky., Sgt. Matthew Desiray Wilder, Fort Campbell, Ky., Nathaniel Robin Wilder, Miracle, Ky,, five great-granddaughters: Destiny Wilder, Mariah Wilder, Brianna Wilder and Natalie Wilder, Kiley Grace Gambrel and a host of family, friends and neighbors. Services were Monday at the Arnett &Steele Funeral Home with Rev. William Boyd Bingham. Interment was in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro. Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Lohe, Dr. Hasni, Dr. Freeman, Kay, Karen, Kristy, Brenna, Rhonda, Kelly and Donna, the nurses and staff at Dialysis of Barbourville, Knox County Home Health staff and the nurses and staff at the Knox County Hospital and all the R-Tech drivers. Full military honors were presented at the graveside by the American Legion Dewey Guy Post #14 in Middlesboro. Arnett &Steele Funeral Home, Pineville, was in charge of arrangements.
