Rose Mills Bates

Rose Mills Bates, 89, of Barbourville, was born on October 12, 1916 in Knox County. She was a daughter of the late Benjamin J. Mills and Lucy Carnes Mills. Mrs. Bates died Tuesday, June 20, 2006 in the Knox County Hospital. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She was a former elementary school teacher. On May 11, 1941, she united in marriage with Hubert Carl Bates. Her husband, Hubert preceded her in death on November 30, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers; Maude Mills Kinningham, Mae Hawkins, Martha Epperson, Otto Mills, Arthur Mills, Bryan Mills, Woodrow Mills, Ben Mills, Martin Mills, John Mills, Sol Mills and a dear cousin, Bob Mills. Mrs. Bates is survived by several dear and loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and her special and dear caregivers, Stacy, Juanita, Sherry and Betty. Funeral services for Rose Mills Bates were conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bob Mills officiating. Interment followed in the Barbourville Cemetery with Judge John Knox Mills, Richard Mills, Bill Mills, Dr. William E. Hampton, Dr. Thomas Epperson, John Epperson, Dale Epperson, Johnny Mills, Gary Tanenbaum and Jim Proud serving as pallbearers. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
