1850 JOHNSON COUNTY KENTUCKY CENSUS PLUS

Compiled By  Kayleene Lowe  September 2000

The 1850 Johnson County Kentucky Census is the first census of Johnson County Kentucky.  Johnson County Kentucky  was established in 1843 from parts of Floyd, Lawrence, and Morgan counties.  The 1850 Census is the first census to list household members.  Although listing household members it does list the person’s relationship to the head of household,  this does not happen until the 1880 census.

Vital Statistics were not kept in Johnson County until 1852, so I had very little birth information to list on the census.  The only time you will see a birth date is when the child was born and died before the 1860 census.  The vital statistics had death records from 1852-1859 so there is more death information to cross reference with the census.   The Vital Statistics information was extracted from Charles C Wells “Vital Statistic of Johnson County, Ky”  When  “jvs” follows a date it is a reference to this book.

Marriage records were cross-referenced from

This census was put together as a reference tool, It is not a Primary Source.  It is to be used as a guide only.  Original sources should always be referred to, to confirm information.

The 1850 Census did not have divisions as does later census records, Index will be by household number
