Commonwealth of Kentucky vs Stephen Beggs

Charges:

The Commonwealth of Kentucky Hickman County and Circuit, Set:

The GRAND JURORS, duly empanelled, sworn, and charged to enquire for said Commonwealth, and the body of the County aforesaid at the July term of the Hickman Circuit Court in the year 1839 upon their oaths present that oath Stephen Beggs late of said County yeoman on the 10th day of July in the year 1839 at the county and Circuit aforesaid then and there did with force and arms did make an assault on and upon the body of William Dillwood and him the said Dillwood then and there did beat bruise and ill treat and other wrongs and inure then and there against the form of the statute in that case made and provided, and against the peace and dignity of said Commonwealth.

Information given by Wm Dillwood a farmer living in Hickman county.

Wm Dillwood a farmer being in the Hickman County is prosecution to this Indictment.

To the Sheriff of Hickman County, Greeting:

We command you to summon William Delwood to appear before the Judge of Hickman Circuit Court, at the Court-House in the town of Clinton on the 2nd day of the June term, to testify and the truth to say, in behalf of the Commonwealth in a certain matter of controversy depending in said court, and undetermined between the Commonwealth of Kentucky & Stephen Beggs and this you shall in no wise omit, under penalty of £100 and have then and there this writ. Witness WHH Taylor Clerk of our said Court, at the Court-House aforesaid this 1 day of May 1840 and in the 48 year of the Commonwealth. WHH Taylor.

To the Sheriff of Hickman County, Greeting:

We command you that you attach William Dilwood so that you have his body before the Judge of our Hickman Circuit Court, at the Court-House in Clinton on the first day of our next July Term, to answer us of and concerning those things which may be then and there objected against him. And further to do and receive what our said Court shall then and there consider; and this he shall in no wise omit under penalty of $1000, and have then there this Writ.

Witness, WHH Taylor, clerk of our said Court, at the Court-house aforesaid, the 31st day of May 1840, and in the __ Year of the Commonwealth.

This for not attending as a witness on behalf of the Commonwealth after having been duly summoned and the defendant is permitted to give bail in the amount of $1000.
