Thomas N. Moore - Elizabeth Tarver


Born in 1805 in Montgomery County, North Carolina, Thomas N. Moore was the son of Thomas Moore also of that county. Elizabeth Tarver, born in 1802, was also of North Carolina birth. The daughter of Thomas Tarver (1770/80 NC) and wife Susannah. Bond and license dated September 10, 1825, Jacob Sullivan married Thomas and Elizabeth on September 11, 1825, in Wilson County, Tennessee. In early 1830, Thomas, Elizabeth and their young daughter moved along with Elizabeth’s family to Hickman County, Kentucky. Thomas received a land grant which is recorded in the State Land Records, book 5, page 138 (S E Qr Sec 35, T3R2W) for 160 acres. Deed Book A, page 284, reflects Thomas purchased lot 90 from the Trustees of the Town of Clinton, on April 4, 1834. Deed Book B, page 342, is the purchase of 80 acres being the Eastern half of SW Qr Sec 35, T3R2W, from Howel and Sally Tarver, May 25, 1834. Four additional children resulted from this marriage after arriving to Hickman County, Kentucky.

Nancy Jane (1826, Wilson County, Tennessee) married Nathaniel R. Moore (1827, Kentucky), November 9, 1847.

Mary Francis Moore (1830) married James Vaughn (1834, Kentucky), October 5, 1853.

James W. Moore (1832) married Dorinda Harriett Jackson, October 5, 1852.

Howell L. Moore (1836) married Mary E. Vaughn (1838, Kentucky), November 4, 1857.

Melvin Byrd (1843) married Elizabeth McDowell (1846, Kentucky), December 6, 1869

All of the children married in Hickman County, Kentucky.

Thomas N. Moore died August 11, 1847 at the age of 42. Will Book C, Inventory page 162, Sale Bill, page 163. Thomas was buried in Via Cemetery, Fulgham, Hickman County, Kentucky.

After the death of Thomas, sons Howell L. and Melvin Byrd joined the household of their sister Nancy Jane Moore and husband Nathaniel R. Moore. Where they remained until their marriage. Elizabeth Tarver Moore died of consumption on October 1, 1856. Age 54.
