San Antonio, TX Express News, Oct. 21, 2002 Mary Katherine Hodges Redus, born Sept. 4, 1902, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at the age of 100. She was a native of Crutchfield, Hickman County, KY and a resident of San Antonio since 1912. She was born to Robert Harry Hodges and Mattie Hannon Kendall. Mary is the last of seven children including a twin brother, Milton. She was a 1920 graduate of Main Avenue High School, served as an apartment complex manager during WW II and during the depression, worked in retail sales at J. C. Penney in the 1930's. She was a longtime member of San Antonio First Baptist Church where she sang faithfully with the sanctuary choir from 1918 until 1986 when she hung up her choir robe at the age of 84. However, Mary never stopped singing to the Lord. On June 8, 1922, she married William Evans Redus in a home wedding in San Antonio. Two daughters were born to this union, Marianna and Betty Jane. Her husband, William Evans Redus and daughter, Betty Jane Presswood preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Marianna Bean and husband, Robert of San Antonio, grandchildren, William M. Bean of San Antonio and Barbara Presswood Cole and husband Holley of Mesquite, TX., four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held today, Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at 2:00 pm in the Wilson Chapel of the San Antonio First Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Grant officiating.
