THE WILLIAMSTOWN COURIER
GENEALOGICAL INDEX "A"
9/9/1880 - 8/25/1881 & 8/29/1899 - 1/21/1892
By Thomas H. Hutzelman

"This is a computer generated index covering roll # 1 of the microfilm of Grant County Newspapers which was produced in 1985 by the Grant County Historical Society. It covers the Williamstown Courier for the periods 9/9/1880 - 8/25/1881 and 8/29/1889 - 1/21/1892. The papers for the time in between appear to have been lost. The indexed, abstracted information appears in alphabetical order, therefore there is not a separate index. The chronological order for an one family's entries can be easily constructed by each researcher.

Indexed are Births ( type "B" ), marriages ( type "M" ), deaths ( type "D" ), and Articles ( type "A" ). "Articles" includes items which mention specific relationships between people, those which indicate where a former Grant County resident had gone, the list of teachers published 3 December 1891, and the list of former Grant County residents who subscribed to the Williamstown Courier published 27 November 1890. A few guardianships were included early in the roll. Many prominent families were mentioned over and over. Relationships which were mentioned frequently were only indexed the first few times they appeared.

The information for the index was drawn from the entire paper, including birth, marriage and death notices, major news stories and the local news columns. Items of national interest, but with no local connection, were not included.

The index was completed in January 1986."

Thomas H. Hutzelman

NOTE: This is not the format that Mr. Thomas H. Hutzelman used to create the index, his is much better than the following format, I am not good at making columns. Event date, if noted, will be given first, the issue date second, followed by the page and column number.
