Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. SAMUEL M. WORTHINGTON, M. D., was born July 12, 1860, near Maysville, Ky., and is the third child and second son of Samuel M. and Maria (Worthington) Worthington, natives of Mason County, Ky. His paternal grandfather, Samuel Worthington, was a native of Maryland, and his maternal grandfather, Thomas Worthington, was from Virginia; both were of English origin. Samuel M. Worthington first entered Augusta College at Augusta, Ky., continued there two years, then studied a year at Middletown, and graduated at Bethany College, of West Virginia, in 1879, and then taught school one year. In the meantime he read medicine under John H. Holton and John H. Reed of Mason County. In the fall of 1880 he entered Chicago Hahnemann Medical College and graduated in 1883. He then began the practice at Sparta, Wis., then went to Charlestown, W. Va., and in 1885 came from Charleston to Versailles, Ky., where he has a lucrative practice. The Doctor is a member of the I.O.O.F., and also a member of the State Medical Society of Homeopathy, and is at present secretary of the last named association.
